Funny, witty Cassandra Phillips has reason to be cynical. Life has dealt her numerous blows so she's put up an impenetrable wall around her own heart. Jilted by her husband for another woman, she now faces what she calls “the Big C” diagnosis, proof enough that even God has deserted her. Independent and strong-willed, she's determined to fight this battle alone, but when the pounds start melting away because of the chemo, her big sister steps in and whisks her away under the guise of a summer vacation. She coddles and cares for her like a mother hen, willing her to get well. The lively seaport town revives her soul as well as her body, and all goes well until a blue-eyed mystery man moves in next door to the little house they've rented. Sparks literally fly when they're together and she's both intrigued and suspicious when she surmises that he may have ties to a drug smuggling operation. Is it true, or is it her writer’s imagination working overtime that makes her think so? Whoever this man is, his blue eyes have cast a spell upon her heart. Just when it appears he’s equally smitten with her, things go terribly wrong when drugs, greed and wrong choices threaten to tear their worlds apart. Finding God again may be the last thing on her mind, but it may be the only thing that can save her.
Enjoyed the book. Having lost so many family members recently to Cancer and just burying my spouse of 49 years due to a long prolonged illness. I know what loss and loneliness feels like. This book took me out of my sorrow for short periods of time and escaped into Cassie's fight with cancer and learning to trust and hope again with a little romance and adventure thrown in to keep you turning the page. So far, this was my favorite book in this series!!
I live in North Carolina, and have been to so many places you write about. You make them come alive! Great reads. Edge of my seat reads that I can't put down.
We meet Liz's Aunt Cassie in this book. She is going through chemo, and needs help with some of life' s challenges. Now Pastor Rock enters the scene helping Cassie find her way back to God. The setting is not Park Place, but I enjoyed this one as much as the other ones in the series.
I was little skeptical reading this in the beginning, but once the relation to Rev Rock, Park P!ace, and Pelican Pointe were revealed, I started to thoroughly enjoy the story. Another great addition to the series
This was one of the most boring books I have read in years. I've read the ones before this, but I'm stopping with this one. I skipped many pages. It was not written as well as the others, in this series.
The writing style was smooth and seamless. The storyline held my attention and had enough twists and turns to not be boring. The characters were well developed and believable. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I will read more by this author.
I really liked the suspense of the book. The part I didn't like at the beginning was that Cassie almost seemed like she was whining about Carl being a possible criminal. The last part of the book had quite a bit of action.

I am from South Carolina so I love coastal romances. I also love stories about grace and second chances. We all have our heartaches and can use inspiration.
