The Fine Line Between Love and Hate

Rate this book
News flash: My uptight landlord is infuriating…
I hate him almost as much as those perfectly pressed dress shirts he wears… and the fact I want to rip them off.
Not reading the lease agreement before signing was an oversight, but now I’ve got it memorized. And I’m going to use it to my advantage while staying within the bounds of my contract. Barely.
Charlie can’t stand all my decorative little touches, so what if the gnomes are a little vulgar?
But declaring war with him is better than the alternative… ending up in bed with him.

Note to self: Never let my mother choose a tenant for my house…
Evie might be a librarian but she’s anything but quiet. In fact, she’s the complete opposite.
My outspoken new tenant seems to get off on pushing me out of my comfort zone… finding ALL my buttons.
And I’d be crazy to think that these sparks flying between us won’t fizzle out. We’re nothing alike. We’re all wrong for each other.
So why can’t I keep my hands to myself?

Opposites definitely attract in this hilarious enemies to lovers romantic comedy!

From the beginning I could tell these two would wind up being explosive once they got together. I can understand Charlie was set in his ways but the one thing I didn’t like was how everyone in the town seemed to gang up on him. I think that if they had such issues with him, they should have spoken up much sooner. Evie also kind of pushed my buttons with how she tried to change Charlie, but later when she explained how she tried to push people away I felt more sympathetic towards her. I did like how Charlie opened himself up to compromise. He was really a my way or the highway type of person. I think Charlie and Evie really learned from each other. I wasn’t sure these two would make it. I mean they really were so different. Overall I really did enjoy reading their journey to love.

4 Star Review of The Fine Line Between Love and Hate by Ashley Erin

Audio Review:
Both the author Ashley Erin and Narrator Heather Firth are new to me and and I have no idea why that is the case.

I really enjoyed this story and performance, with quite a few laugh out loud moments to be sure peppered throughout the book..

How could two people who are so totally different become involved.? That is the question when Librarian Evie and teacher (and Evie’s landlord) Charlie meet and despite themselves become attracted.

I absolutely loved the character of Evie and would love such a friend in my life. Charlie on the other hand I wanted to smack across the back of the head a few times and tell him to grow up. He was so rigid in his views and opinions that at times I wanted to strangle him. However he did redeem himself in the end; I particularly enjoyed his inter actions with his 2 best friends', who despite his quirks have always been there to support him.

Evie’s outlook on life is to enjoy herself without too many attachments forming. She grew up in the foster care system and some of her memories truly broke my heart. Heather Firth did a great job with her narration and you could feel and hear the pain that Evie was in.

I loved that Going Haywire was set in the small town and that you get the experience of living in a small town through the eyes of the characters.

Although my first book from Ashley Erin and Heather Firth, it most certainly will not be my last.

When you read a really good book that has you looking up gnomes online… The Fine Line Between Love and Hate by Ashley Erin was everything I love about enemies to lovers romance. I absolutely adored this book and can’t wait for the next in this series!

Charlie was so perfect. He’s such a grumpy, OCD-ridden man that adjusting to the fun vibrancy of Evie nearly killed him. It was so well written, clever, and hilarious that I devoured it in one sitting. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you in stitches this one is for you. Highly recommend for Rom-Com fans. I really hope we see more of them, maybe another book or novella? *crossing my fingers*

Charley and Evie are absolutely hilarious together as they go back and forth with their banter. This is a great light read that is enjoyable from beginning until the end. Living in a small town has both its benefits as well as its downfalls but I think both Evie and Charley individually have a great support system with everyone. Guaranteed HEA that has me grinning ear to ear.

Literally just finished this story moments ago and I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything I’d read.

First thought though, was that I loved it! The story was done well and I felt myself extremely connected to Evie and her crazy, out-there personality. I adored how she pushed Charlies buttons and stayed true to herself, despite her past and despite how hard headed Charlie could be. She was by far my favorite character and I wholeheartedly believe that SHE made the book great. Plus the gnomes... Dear God, it was pure gold.

Charlie on the other hand was a little much at times. I know he meant well but there were times where his organization and need for order, made it a little hard to read. He was frustrating on more than one occasion but it was sweet to see how Evie made him question everything. I liked how he slowly changed from everything needing to be in order 24 hours a day, to realizing the more important things in life couldn’t be planned. He adapted to the change with some struggle BUT he got there and I loved him more for it at the end.

This was my first read from Ashley Erin but I’m definitely a fan and will be keeping an eye out from future works from her. An author to read for sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The title says it all. A fun story about a free spirited, tattooed librarian who moves to a small town and rents a house from a strict, rule loving, stuffy high school english teacher. Charlie likes everything just so and doesn't like to compromise, he even complains that Evie isn't mowing the grass to the correct height per the rental agreement. Evie of course can't help but push back in some super creative and funny ways that cause the havoc to Charlie's peace of mind. This unlikely love story will make you smile and wonder just where how dirty a garden gnome can really be. My only complaint is that I found a discrepancy about the adoption of Charlie's cat. It kind of bugs me when an author makes mistakes that noticeable but it didn't prevent my enjoying the story.

Meh… didn’t buy their connection and thought she could do better

First- my score is rated higher because the writing and editing were worth the stars. But I didn’t actually buy their connection and by the end really wanted her to wind up with someone else 🤷‍♀️

Charlie has lived in this small town all his life, comes from a wonderful family, yet has some over the top need to have everything perfect and is completely unwilling to compromise on anything. He lives with every moment scheduled and planned and by a specific routine. Somehow everyone has allowed him to get away with being a rigid condescending inflexible jerk all his life. His mother commented that he lost his mind when she cleaned his room when he was 8, because she dared move his things. As a teacher, he has left his own detailed instructions to OTHER teachers when he felt they needed to do things differently. 😳 While he is not the town favorite by any means, they seem to write him off as “well that’s just Charlie”. 🙄 I did appreciate his friend pointing out eventually that that mentality had been a disservice to him in the end.

Evie was born into foster care when her mom died during childbirth. Emancipated at 16, she managed to earn her doctorate and moved to town as a librarian. She rents a house from Charlie, though his mother arranged it as he was out of town. While I will admit she was a little weird expecting him to just be ok with her building a lean-to reading shed in the yard, as most rentals don’t allow even painting (which she did), Charlie’s rental expectations were ludicrous. He literally chastised her because the lawn wasn’t mowed to his preferred height, came inside to inspect and to criticize her “clutter”, and while they were dating actually berated her for “neglecting the upkeep” when the bushes developed some mildew. Really? That would have been it for me. He treated her like she was some flighty irresponsible unreliable twit, because she didn’t live in his well beyond Type A checklist lifestyle. She put herself through school and likely has a higher degree than him, and she did it completely alone. He was not likeable at all for at least the first 40% and I did not buy their hate/love attraction. And honestly, I question that their relationship would even last because they are so fundamentally different.

When they split after she tells him she loves him and he replies with “I don’t,” I was really hoping she’d wind up with someone else. Anyone else. Obviously I knew that wasn’t going to happen, but I was hoping. He did have a wake up call and acknowledged he has been an entitled jerk his whole life (his words, and true) and did the work for the grand gesture. It was cute, but 🤷‍♀️. My problem with grand gestures is they don’t fix the issue. And to have her move in the same day as the gesture and reconciliation seemed premature. But I guess it’s a fairy tale world and it all worked out.

A light, fun, steamy, and emotional romance. Charlie and Evie really couldn’t be more different. He is a type A, super rigid, very uptight person, likes things exactly how he likes them, and doesn’t ever rock the boat. Evie is a free spirited, happy, light hearted woman who is looking to make her dream life happen now that she’s found her dream job in this small town. But with Charlie as her landlord, patience will be tested on both sides.

There’s no doubt they are physically attracted to each other. But beyond that, they drive each other completely crazy. Charlie is super picky and strict with the lease, picking apart every tiny possible thing that isn’t exactly to his standards and liking. Evie, meanwhile, is trying to bring some joy and color into her life, and doesn’t want to let Charlie stifle her, so she is finding ways to push his buttons without being evicted. It’s really a fun push and pull to witness. And I have to admit, some of Charlie’s demands are infuriating, and I’m totally on Evie’s side most of the time. And then there are the gnomes. Ah, the gnomes are just the absolute best, for so many reasons. And the friends and family that get involved, they are well done also. Charlie’s parents, really, they’re just the sweetest. Charlie’s best friends are hilarious. And Evie’s best friend, who has her own little secondary plot that helps move the story a bit as well, is also a good addition to the story.

Overall, it is a very light and fun romantic comedy. However, there is a point in the point that really just broke my heart completely for Evie. So there is a good emotional pull to the story as well, because at that point, I was all in on their relationship. It added some good depth the the story, and made it more real, I think. In the end, I really loved how it all came together, the HEA being quite perfect for them - including the epilogue, which absolutely fit them to a tee. I have to admit, I’m hoping to see another book in this world of characters - I get major « brother’s best friend trope » vibes from Tash and Darcy, and I think that could be another great story!

A hilarious, opposites attract/enemies to lovers romance, The Fine Line Between Love and Hate will have you laughing and swooning at the same time.

She's not a quiet librarian.

My landlord is infuriating.

He's uptight and rigid, right down to those dress shirts that do nothing to hide the muscle underneath. Sure, I never read the tenant's agreement. I have now. In fact, I've memorized it and I'm going to use it to my advantage while staying within the bounds of my contract. Is it my fault that those little decorative touches drive Charlie nuts? And who can resist purchasing a few vulgar gnomes to enhance the landscape?

He's uptight and rigid.

Note to self: Do not allow my mother to choose a tenant for my house ever again.

She's the opposite of the quiet librarian I'm expecting. My tenant is outspoken, vibrant, and seems to get off on pushing all my buttons.

It drives me nuts, but there's something there. Something that sparks a fire in me and when we're not butting heads those flames ignite.

Whatever is happening couldn't possibly work. We're too different. I'm too set in my ways.

This book was very funny. I loved everything about it. It is well written and I absolutely loved the characters! This was my first read from Ashley Erin but not the last. Heather Firth did an excellent job of bringing this book and all it's wonderful characters to life for me! I highy recommend this book to anyone who loves a good book!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this landlord/tenant-enemies to lovers story. Heather Firth does a fabulous job of narrating this humorous story of the not quiet librarian and the overly controlled teacher. She makes the characters come a live for the listener and each character is distinctive. Evie is new to town and rents Charlie's rental from his mother, who apparently saw that the couple would be good for each other. When the first meet neither of them realizes who the other is and the chemistry kicks in. Evie's free spirit pushes Charlie's buttons while his rigid control kicks in her mischievous side. I'm pretty sure I will never look at garden gnomes in the same light again. While there are serious undertones in Evie's past she is a strong, independent woman who knows her mind. She loves her newly adopted town and finally has roots that have eluded her all her life: friends, a job she loves, and a house she adores. Her landlord however drives her to distraction and vice versa. While the road is rocky, full of gnomes and laughs, the reader is lead to a very satisfying HEA. I highly recommend this audiobook and wouldn't hesitate to pick up the ebook or paperback to read.

Sometimes a good laugh and romance is just what I need to listen to. This book came at the right time. From the start, I knew Charley was the man for me. Borderline OCD, he loves to have his orderly life always in line. I can totally relate. In comes Evie, the new tenant. She is beautiful, but nothing like Charley. While he is driving her crazy with his rules, she is pushing his boundaries and wreaking havoc on his life. It's incredible foreplay to a steamy, hot and ideal romance. These two have banter that left me laughing out loud. From the inappropriate gnomes(who came up with this hysterical idea?) to the romantic dates, to dinner with the parents, this story is off the charts original, funny and charming. Evie and Charley are great characters, with realistic flaws and practical problems. They are easy to relate to and made this listen so much fun!

Heather Firth is the incredible narrator for this book. She is fast becoming a go to narrator for me. With her ability to switch between roles of male and female characters and her comedic timing in this book, she made the listen fly by and some of the best entertainment I have listened to lately.

So many mistakes. Loads of them. Way too many for a novice writer, so imagine my dismay when I discovered this writer has several publications under her belt.

Anyway, cute little bit of fluff, here. Nothing that will set the world on fire or anything. It was amusing in places but it could have been hilarious if the writer had appreciated the depth of comedic potential she had with a character as uptight as Charlie. However, the problem then becomes the heroine, because Evie wasn't quite up to par with Charlie. She was close, but too insecure and just not as well-developed. I didn't buy them together. They liked to shag one another but the writer skimmed over too much of the relationship stuff.

I didn't buy the entire frickin' town's involvement and busybody ways, either. That would be truly annoying if it actually happened. But Evie and Charlie's lives and relationship was nobody's business but their own. Those folks needed to mind their own lives.

Still, no real harm done. This is a super lightweight story that doesn't require much focus, and there's no risk in reading it.

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate is an enemies-to-lovers romance that had me in stitches with the brilliant humor and opposition between the two main characters! Evie, a spitfire librarian with a spontaneous and free-spirited nature, is a new resident in town with the need to rent a home. Charlie, her new landlord, has a bad case of OCD and is as anal retentive as they come in all aspects of his life, including the maintenance of his rental house. Sparks fly with this “opposites attract” couple! Cue the banter and instigation to rile each other up, and all I have to say is one word—GNOMES. That bit was priceless… while continuing the humor throughout the story as well as becoming the centerpiece of their growing relationship and evolving personalities. You’ll get exactly what I mean when you enjoy this highly entertaining read! Aside from the actual story, the narrator, Heather Firth, did an amazing job capturing the personalities of Evie and Charlie. Her narrative gave such a heightened experience to the back and forth banter and good-natured teasing… a definite plus for my listening delight!

Audiobook Review:
The Fine Line Between Love and Hate is a frolicsome, opposites attract/enemies to lovers romance. This is a fashionable, innovative novel that is charming and so much fun to listen to. It will have you laughing out loud and felling giddy. I absolutely adored Evie and her peppy personality. I loved Charles and his uptight attitude. These two opposites attract and bring out the best in each other. I loved the comical banter between Evie and Charles. Supporting character's were campy and brought extra frenzy. I loved how each chapter had a title and told who was talking. With a perfect epilogue to wrap up this witty narrative.
Narrator Heather Firth did excellent voice changes for each character. The narration showcases a smooth, light tone, with a perfect pace. I absolutely loved listening to this audiobook and plan on doing a relisten. Looking forward to listening to more audiobooks from this narrator and author. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook as it brings happiness.

An Awesome, Fun 💘 Story & Fabulous Narration!🎧

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate
By: Ashley Erin
Narrated by: Heather Firth

This book was hilarious, romantic comedy at its best! I will never be able to look at a gnome again with out thinking of Evie and Charlie, well done Ashley Erin well done. You created and wrote a wonderful story with just as wonderful characters. Lots of laughs along with drama and heartfelt moments. This was a very interesting book and i love the way Author Ashley Erin brought these characters together. Its a fun romance and definitely a great book to bring with you to the beach. I would have liked a fewer inner monologues, and more verbal conversations, but this could be a style of the Authors. I personally felt that there was something more to Charlie than his strict regiment, and I wanted a bit more background on Evie, but overall, they are well rounded characters and fun to watch them throughout the book. i can see lots of potential from the Author and curious to see what else she's written.

The narration was okay, but I would've liked a little more distinct voices between the main characters. And this is a personal preference, but i do prefer a Reader voice, and then when talking, that is when the Male voice or female voice happens. The inner monologues took on the same 'voice' as the main characters so i found it a bit distracting and it pulled away from the story at times.

This opposites attract romance was so much fun! Evie is excited for to start her new job, move into a new home in a quaint new town. Her life has been transient and she is hoping for a new life with caring new friends. All her personal touches are met with disdain by her landlord. He is rigid and uncompromising with his ideas and rules. But Evie isn't deterred by her sexy, obstinate landlord, Charlie and she begins to push his boundaries in some very clever and hilarious ways. Charlie never expected a quiet Librarian to be this much trouble or this beautiful. She drives him crazy, and he can't stop thinking about her. Their interactions are so much fun, and their sexual tension is off the charts. This romance is unique, refreshing and steamy. Narrator Heather Firth, does a fantastic job capturing each characters personality. She set each scene, moving between lighthearted to meaningful to steamy so effortlessly. She is a joy to listen to, and she really made this story even more funny and captivating.

I love a good enemies to lover story. Charley and Evie are as far from a compatible couple as ever. They are complete opposites. Charley has a little OCD and Evie is rebelious. Charley is the landlord and Evis is his tennant that his mother let into the building. Evie pushes her limits with Charley asn she stays on that very fine line of following the rules. Leave it to Mom to know what is best for her son, because eventually, opposites will attract. I loved the chemistry between Charley and Evie. Fighting that chemistry, brought laughter and so much fun to the story. My favorite part was the gnomes. Those gnomes made me laugh out loud as they were found throughout the story.

Heather Firth is the perfect narrator for Evie. Heather was able to bring out that devious side of Evie and yet keep her fun. Ms. Firth has a great male voice that is easy on the ears. Ms, Firth brought these characters to life and brought out the chemistry between the, that they both tried so hard to ignore. Ms. Firth's narration enhanced the comedy of this story and gave it life.

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate: The Complete Series

Evie moves into a rental house that is just perfect for her, at least until her new landlord leaves the first of several irritating notes on her front door. Charlie is shocked when the librarian his mother chose to be the new tenant in his rental house reacts badly to his reasonable requests. The lease on the house clearly states no changes are to be made to the flower beds or the lawn. After one too many notes, though, Evie decides to get revenge. You can only break a rule if you know what the rules are, so she arms herself with the rental agreement. The town of Mistik Ridge looks on in amazement as the rigid Charlie begins to bend to the will of the effervescent Evie.

If you're looking for a fun story with a wild librarian and an OCD school teacher, this is the book for you!

Audiobook review:

5 of 5 stars

This story was really good. It was surprisingly good, and I only say that because this is a new to me author and I read a lot of alpha type guys and this book wasn't that but still totally hit the mark for me.

Charlie was very organized and structured and very much against change. So I got a lot of enjoyment out of watching him go up against Evie. She was such a free spirit and such a wonderful character. I think that was both because and despite her upbringing.

The narration in this was awesome. Heather Firth is one of those narrators that grows on me with every new book I listen to her preform. She has a really enjoyable general tone for female characters and her male voice is pretty good as well. I look forward to listening to more of her work.

If you're looking for a fantastic small town romance then check this out. I know I will definitely want to listen to more from this author.

I really love this series. Here we see Charlie and Evie getting even closer and compromising even more for each other. But all relationships are complicated and just because they get along, does that mean they can make it work?

Like the rest of the books in this series, I really enjoyed Part 3. I love Charlie and Evie and their humor and their relationship. Despite their differences, I think they are great together. In this book we have the humor we have come to know and love in the other books.
These books are short and fun and funny and make you feel good. Of course we are left hanging at the end of this one and wanting more- which I love and hate. I’m glad the last book will be out soon. I really will be sad to see this series end. I really do love these characters.

An arc was provided to Stephanie’s Book Reports for an honest review.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book!

If you're a hopeless romantic, like myself, then you will love this one as much as I did. This was a very like and quick paced novel. It's comical and made me grin a lot and got some chuckles from me as I was listening.

The story is a little predictable and you can somewhat anticipate where the author is taking it. However, this is definitely a pick-me-up and a very enjoyable listen. Plus there is some steamy action thrown in too!

I really liked how the narrator was able to bring to life the love hate relationship and chemistry between Evie and Charlie. I could easily tell if they were upset or frustrated and other emotions. Great performance.

Overall, this novel is just a whole lot of fun and I enjoyed listening. I look forward to more writing by this author and more performances from this narrator!

This was a funny laugh hope your pants are dry funny . My first from the author. Hope she has more out soon . Ashley knows what the reader is looking for and delivered it with this story The story had me in stitches with the banter . It was a great story .
The story has gnomes who is perfect for this story . Charlie and Evie were perfect for each other . Like opposites even each other out . Charlie was an OCD person and very set in his ways . Evie tried to change him , open him up a bit . It was a ruse so people can get fed up and leave her . It didn’t work between Charlie, he stuck around and both He and Evie were meant for each other’s. Grab it and you’ll keep on laughing.
Heather was perfect for the narration . She has a strong , clear , smooth sexy voice . She brought the story to live . She was perfect .

********** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW **********

This was a completely adorable story! Who would have ever thought these two could mix and mingle and not come out dead or dismembered! Evie and Charlie are so incredibly different! Evie was amazing and I could seriously see her and I being besties! I like her outlook on life. Charlie is... umm... uptight? Wound so tight he might just explode is really about right! His uptight ways made me laugh and roll my eyes... I just can't imagine. I'm surprised he doesn't have ulcers the amount he stresses.

Anyway, the narrator, Heather Firth was fantastic! She was upbeat and fun... just what this book calls for. There were some sections in the story that were so funny that you could feel Miss Firth's smiles! Enjoyed her narration a lot.
