I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2016. I had a diabetes educator that I met with twice shortly after my diagnosis. Still, since then my A1C has been inconsistently high and low. Medications have been added as well as admonishments to "watch what I eat and exercise". Until I bought and read this book, I didn't have good guidelines nor an understanding of how carbs, protein, and fat played into blood sugar control. Nor how truly important exercise is. This book and Sherri Shafer's tips throughout have made a huge difference in my blood sugar control. I feel that this book covers all the information a newly diagnosed diabetic needs, whether it's type 1 (insulin dependent), type 2, gestational, or prediabetic (insulin resistant), this book covers all these topics as well as how to count carbs, how to arrange your meals to maximize your best health. Plus there are a lot of websites she lists to help you beyond the book itself. I am so thrilled that I found this great resource and I can't recommend it strongly enough. With the help of this book, I am setting goals for weight loss and to bring down my A1c by the time I meet with my physician in 6 months. I know I can reach these goals.
