Caught between the mission and their illicit desires for each other, they rebel against the electricity between their bodies to hunt down evil and save lives. But when Trace falls into destructive habits, Ilana must get close to unravel the painful secrets he keeps hidden. Fighting against time, family, and propriety, Trace and Ilana strive to find redemption in the light of each other's souls, even if they have to do so in the shadows.

This read had me hooked within paragraphs... and I didn't stop until I finished.

I enjoyed the mythology of this story & the world in which these vampire hunters live.

Katie Lewis did an awesome job of bringing us into their world quickly. Giving us exactly what we needed to know of their mythology in order to join the action straight away, but in a way that let us uncover some of the deeper elements as the story progressed.

For me, this meant that I got to bond with the actual characters in the first few chapters & not with what they did.

I loved Ilana & Trace, the story unfolding from their dual POV's. Both of these characters are relatable, likeable and real, despite their paranormal profession, and I become easily invested in their well being.

Joseph & Sabine were great supporting characters, providing the counterpoint at times to the angst of our heroes plights.

It's an all the feels new adult erotic romance read - sexy, suspenseful, graphic & gripping - and it didn't shy away from some of the darker sides to this genre.

This was an awesome read & I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fast paced and fun, new adult PNR!

A really good new adult paranormal romance! I really enjoy Katie Lewis' writing and Hot-Blooded Hunter is definitely one of my new favorites of all her work.

This story was longer than her other stories that I've read so I had more time to really connect with the characters. I really enjoyed Trace. He has so much going on in his life, but he still takes time to be worried about the people he considers family! Ilana doesn't want to do what she's been raised to any longer, and it's interesting seeing two people raised very similarly and how they react to their circumstances. Add in the fact that Trace thinks he is keeping a huge secret from everyone, and this story even gets a bit angsty.

Vampires and vampire hunters are the main paras discussed in this story! There is suspense, violence, a sweet new adult love story, paranormal happenings, and some hot and steamy naughty bits that felt like epic teases! Very well written, and I can't see what happens next!!

No blood covered stone is left un turned

Hot Blooded Hunter is a unique and interesting take on the vampire hunter genera. The main characters are in-depth complete with complicated back stories and intense interactions with one another. There is no lack of blood and danger entangled with the excitement of young people discovering their own scruples and sexuality.

The novel starts off right in the heart of a case, leading the audience into the thick of the fire right along side the hunters themselves. Then, with frightening and sexually charged dreams the author slowly leads you into the psyches of our heroes. They are painted as young adults on the verge of blooming sexuality, with desires and longings for life and love amongst the less than perfect world in which they exist.

The back and forth narratives of Trace and Ilana lend individually male and female perspectives to the danger and psychoses they are dealing with. Dreams torture and yet enliven them both in so many personal and horrifying ways.

The authors descriptions are detailed and even sometimes disturbing in a fantastically creative way. One could read the book for the imagery presented alone. No blood covered stone is left un turned in this excellent vampire fiction.

The frustrating thing about reading (or writing) a series or trilogy is resolving a self-contained subplot within each book while furthering the overarching tale and hooking the reader into wanting more...willing to await the next "fix." Katie Lewis nails this and then hammers it into your chest on the final page! Okay - I don't normally read romances...but DAMN! I am not in this book's target demographic, but at one time I was and I must applaud Lewis for grabbing my attention enough with the main plot that I'm eagerly awaiting the next book, HOT-BLOODED HUNTRESS. I mean...DAMN! I like books that make me think (not that this one doesn't), but...DAMN! Okay, okay. Backing out of the heat broiling my brain and insides alive, the first page hooked me. Entering at a mid-point with the characters at a natural pause in the action isn't easy to pull off, but it feels real - anticipation flows from the page into your fingers. The shift from that scene into the next few chapters pulled me out a bit and I can't pinpoint why - this may be part of the whole not-my-thing thing - but Lewis hooked me again and the rest is a blur. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and I haven't felt that pull in a while. The exhilaration of paranormal romance hit me like it did when I read the genre 20 years ago and a different kind of anticipation took over - as it should. An info dump of backstory isn't given or necessary. Lewis provides everything you need to know along the way. I am left oh so satisfied with the subplot resolution, but have so many questions yet to be answered with the next book(s). Trace reminds me a lot of Zero from the Vampire Knight manga, and those familiar with the hunter's society can easily picture the Institute. I've returned to that series in my reviews lately, but there's a more direct correlation here. Lewis offers the perfect opportunity for Zero fans who may want a bite (and rather large one at that) of hot sexual tension in a similar situation. I connected more with Trace and feel like he is a better formed character, but that fits the story so far. I don't believe, for an instant, that Ilana knows so little about guns after 10 years of vampire hunting and training, and I was disappointed at how weak she was against the one vampire, but, again, it fits with the story and each character is similarly flawed. Ilana is clearly a healer, and the fact that she's uncertain of her place in life adds realism. If your heart's not in it, you're not in it, and even down to life or death, certain expectations, hindrances, and confusion excuse her shortcomings (see? It does make you think). I think Lewis has something in mind for Ilana and I'm rather curious about it. (wink) Even though it's not my normal read, I'm giving 5 stars because Lewis did her job and did it well. She not only snagged someone outside her target audience, but also took my breath away in the end. I've joined the ranks of those who can't wait for the next book! Kudos for providing the guilty pleasure I've been unknowingly missing for a long time.

This is not the typical book I would pick up or review, but I am so glad I read this! It’s one of my first 5-star books of the year. The blurb undersells everything you’ll get in this book. If you’re looking for a fluffy, light romance, this is not what you want. If you’re looking for something dark and creepy with amazing characters, this is the book you want!

The book drops you right into the world of these vampire hunters which hooked me from the very beginning. There were several cringey moments that had me put the book down to clear my brain of the mental images (my threshold for violence and blood is non-existent), which to me means Lewis did her job with descriptions.

My absolute favorite thing about this book were the characters. They were fully developed and complex. I felt so bad for the things Trace was grappling with- previous addictions, hiding secrets from his family, and trying to avenge his parents murder by vampires. Ilana was very relatable as an upper teen trying to figure out what she wants vs what life has been planned out for her.

I binge-read this book in one day because I couldn’t handle not knowing what was happening next. Any book that can combine badass female vampire hunters, corny dad jokes, and extremely well written adult scenes is worth a read to me! Can't wait to read the sequel.

Katie Lewis is an author I discovered thanks to IG. This is the first one of her works that I have read, and I'm impressed with Lewis's writing. Hot Blooded Hunter is the first book in a series about a family of vampire hunters. Trace and Ilana were taken in by Joseph after their families were killed by vampires, and they have trained for years to ensure other families are not destroyed in the same fashion. Trace, however, is running out of time;; he had been bitten by a vampire, and the time of his turning is rapidly approaching.
.
This book falls under several genres; supernatural, romance, thriller and erotica. Katie Lewis had created a wonderfully in-depth world in which love, lust and revenge all share equal space. The characters of Trace, Ilana and Joseph are brought to life in such a way that the reader can almost feel their emotions. The joy, humor and pain that these people experience gave me all the feels.
.
The ending of this book was such a cliffhanger, Lewis may have well just put a gun to my head and said "Start reading Book 2 now". So I guess I'm looking for the sequel now.

Great from Start to Finish!

So listen...I've read a lot of vamp stories and 98% sound like the same old song and dance. This one? This is totally different from what I've ever read. It starts off feeling like Blade (in a non biting way) and ends up being something different altogether.

I honestly enjoyed it and I cant wait to read more. I NEED to see how this ends. Heck, I need to know what Joseph says!!! What about Mateo? And that last dream?! No, I need more and swiftly!

Totally recommend this book! So glad I purchased it. (:

Hot-Blooded Hunter a very solid opening instalment to the Bleeding Hearts series. An opening that has left me looking forward to seeing where the story is going to go.
Katie has done a wonderful job building the relationships between the primary characters. Alongside this, the struggles that they face, aside from the threat of vampires, are things people could have related to in everyday life.
This is well worth your time picking up and giving a go, especially if you're a fan of vampires.

Great read! One of the better vampire novels I’ve read, but more so than that it’s a human story with human emotion and troubles. I WILL be reading the sequel!

Overall, it was a nice and well paced reading.
The principale thing that kept me hooked was the different kind of vampire story.
It's quite original also if remember me some trait of Buffy and Shadowhunter.
I liked all the main characters but I've not found anything 'special' in one of them...
There was something forced in the plot, specially in some erotic scenes and action-violent scenes.
The writing style is nice and fluid, the dialogs a bit limited, sometimes repetitive.
Anyway, is a good entertaining story, I suggest this book if you love that kind of vampires with romantic-erotic-bloody twist, you must give it a shot, but for my personal taste, I haven't found the emotional connection with the characters that bring me to continue to follow their adventure.
