Omega Asher wants a family of his own more than anything, but he's a widow—never allowed to mate again. He spends his days as a leatherworking apprentice, haunted by the abuse his former Alpha put him through. When Alpha Zeke asks him on a date, he agrees—but he has to tell Zeke he's a widow sooner or later.
Alpha Zeke is willing to fight for his soul bonded mate. But he has to prove to Asher he won't be abusive. That becomes difficult when he's called to fight in the pack wars—which are slowly turning in favor of Black River.
As Zeke's job in the Alpha Guard grows even more dangerous, and Asher's trauma continues to prevent him from enjoying the pleasures of the soul bond fully, the two find that they have to make difficult decisions for each other. And will Black River win the war—or will it crumble?
Bound by the Pack is a m/m gay shifter mpreg novella with a HEA. No cheating, no cliffhangers. Each book in the Black River Pack series focuses on a different couple while expanding the overarching plot. They can be enjoyed alone, but it is recommended to read the series in order.
I usually enjoy Kellan Larkin's books but this one has so many missed scenes I couldn't even get into it. Nothing about their soul bond developing after they first meet, the obstacle of the rule against widows remarrying is breezed by, then suddenly they're married... and on it goes. It's so superficial. I felt cheated out of a story.
An adventure of lost hope and finding new hope. All wrapped up in love and a pretty now.
Asher is an apprentice in the leather work shops. He has done this since he was a young pup and able to hold a tool. He loves his job and where he is happy to help those in need of the leathers his shop sells. He is jealous too. Having to lost his alpha, early on in the pack wars. He is now a widow. And because of rules, he will have to follow them regardless of how he feels. Till he meets him.... Zeke is a Alpha male taken in from The Fir Branch. He may have been part of the inner circle in his other pack, but it wasn't by choice. Now he will hopefully get the life he always wanted... A quiet life and hopefully a omega mate to call his own. Life right now may be chaotic, but a cute little omega may have caught his attention.
Bound By Pack is book 4 in the Black River Pack series. It is very much like the previous 3 novels. It can be read as a stand alone.
There is a sweetness to Asher and Zeke. The omega/ alpha bound is strong with these two. I must admit that Zeke was a bit of a suprise as he possesses a gentleness not usually attributed to an alpha.
If you enjoyed the first 3 novels in this series, you will definitely enjoy Bound By Pack as well.
I started really liking this series. The story lines were good. But the interaction with the other clans in the area is getting weird. Sounds like Black River is turning into the big guy bully now. And the editing is getting worse with each book.
The last of this four book series felt a little rushed to be. From one paragraph to the next there were large jumps in the story. Not as violent as some ot the others, It still had danger and threatened rape . Ash is a widow and according to pack rules, he can't find another alpha as a mate. He is lonely and sexually frustrated. Zeke is a new member from the Fir pack and they meet at the leather shop where Ash works as one of the artists.Ash's last alpha husband had been abusive and Ash as been scared by this. Finding a true mating bond, Zeke is determined to find a way to get together with Ash and bond with him. There is mild BDSM in the story with Mpreg, trying to end the wars, the Council's trickery, final battles, love and bonding. If you have read the others in the series, this one finishes them off and would recommend it to anyone tor read or start the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
Bound by the Pack is the last book in the Black River Pack series by Kellan Larkin. I liked Asher and Zeke, but I didn't think this book was as developed as the other books in the series. The author used more of telling vs. showing approach to this book which made it hard for me to connect with the main characters and then having the issues with the council so easily fixed by just switching out some of the old members for new members left me disappointed. Moreover, we never did get a real answer as to who or what had started the pack wars. This all just left me feeling like the book had been written as fast as possible to end the series in the easiest way possible. I wanted more of the nitty gritty details and maybe some more angst. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
There were parts of this book that I absolutely loved, and parts that I really hated.
The biggest negative, in my opinion, was that the writing itself was choppy and disjointed. Each chapter would represent a break in time and action in a way that made the whole book feel like a series of related scenes rather than a cohesive narrative. We see a battle in the ongoing pack wars, but only hear about it's conclusion and aftermath as an offhand comment in the next chapter. Asher begins the book very inconsistently both loving and loathing his prior mating - sometimes in the same sentence. Zeke was too well adjusted too quickly for the abuse that he suffered under for it to be believable.
Despite those negatives, I enjoyed reading about Asher and Zeke's relationship. I didn't trust the Council going into this book, but I was so happy to read about the developments that occurred here. It was interesting reading about Asher's situation in being an omega who wouldn't be able to mate again and how all of the changes with the pack meant that he, and all of the other widows, would be given the chance to find happiness and companionship again.
I liked that Zeke wasn't intimidated by the Council and was suspicious of their motivations and intentions. But that he will ultimately be able to help the Black River Pack become better and healthier through his leadership.
Omega Asher and Alpha Zeke make the fourth book fun. This time the omega is different. He is not a virgin omega but a widow, his alpha having died in battle. Zeke is an alpha that was rescued and incorporated into Asher's pack. The two men have what seems like an instant connection but they have to work through a lot. Poor Asher has bad memories of his dead alpha. What I really did not like was how fast everything moved. Asher and Zeke bonded really fast. But besides that, the story was a great escape from reality. I received this free ARC and this is my honest review.
No marriage for widowed Omega's. Well that's about to change. The love of a great Alpha is all you need. Joy and happiness will final!!y come to the pack!
Over all I enjoyed this series & am saddened that it is over. The issue I had with this book is everything wrapped up so fast. I would have liked maybe a little more planning before the final battle. Plus you go from we are heading out to yes we won. I feel like the council lied about the other packs wanting to take over their lands. I think the council was the aggressor. You never did see if any peace treaty was attempted. Also, I would have liked saying goodbye to all the couples from the prior series. But I did enjoy watching the different factions coming together working on becoming one strong pack.
ARC rec'd from the author in exchange for an honest review.
