Zum Beispiel, die Ruhe zu bewahren angesichts neuer Herausforderungen, die eigentlich nichts Neues sind.
Daneben zeigt Göttert, seit wann es überhaupt erst eine einheitliche deutsche Sprache gibt – und wie es mit ihr noch zu Goethes Zeiten aussah –, wie sich unsere Dialekte entwickelt haben und welche die beliebtesten, welche die verhasstesten sind.

So while the linguistic information presented by Karl-Heinz Göttert in his Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten (and the book title is basically saying that this tome features information on the German language in exactly 100 pages) has definitely been interesting, enlightening and is also penned in a generally easy enough to understand and thankfully, appreciatively non linguistic jargon heavy style (on German language history, on written German as a European standard and on the various dialects of German and how they compare to and have influenced standard written and spoken German and vice versa) and not to mention that the included bibliography is both sufficiently detailed and up to date (at least according to the publication date of Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten), I do have to admit that those parts of Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten where author Karl-Heinz Göttert is in my humble opinion rather pontificating politically with regard to the status (the position) of German as a language (how it ranks in so-called importance if placed beside English, French, Spanish, Chinese etc.), well these sections (mostly located in the introductory chapters of Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten) have not really been all that personally interesting and readable, not at all useful to and for me. And yes indeed, I actually also never fully did read these parts, but have instead chosen to but cursively skim over the introductions and to in fact only truly begin my perusal of Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten with the section on German language history.

And no, no, no, I also refuse to feel in any way or manner guilty or contrite here. As for one, I have always much preferred books on languages, on any given language in fact, that feature primarily linguistically and not politically or culturally imbued and motivated contents and thematics. And for two, the chapters in Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten which are political in scope and tone, which deal with how German ranks on the European and world stage, to and for my reading eyes and my personal feelings, they have been so monotonously off-topic that in order for me to actually want to complete, to finish Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten, I simply had to skip ahead and to for the most part actively ignore Karl-Heinz Göttert’s text until he started to write about German language history (and indeed, doing so has made this book into a reasonably engaging and pleasant reading experience and a general ranking of three stars, but with the caveat that I actually only do recommend Deutsche Sprache. 100 Seiten if one indeed ignores or at least just skims over the politically charged and not all that linguistically and language based beginning).

Ich mochte die, wenn man die lange Geschichte der Deutschen Sprache betrachtet, sehr kurze Zusammenfassung eigentlich sehr gern.
Natürlich, möchte ich sagen, kann man den "altgermanistischen" Einschlag des Autors als Professor für Ältere Deutsche Sprache und Literatur nur zu gut erkennen. An manchen Stellen ist es wissenschaftlich aber einfach verständlich erklärt. Und auch, wenn man auf 100 Seiten nicht besonders viel Spielraum hat und die Entwicklungsgeschichte wichtig ist, hätte ich mir etwas mehr zum aktuellen Diskurs gewünscht. Vor allem an Beispielen ganz am Ende .
Aber trotzdem SEHR empfehlenswert um einen Einblick in das Deutsche zu bekommen und zu erfahren warum an dessen Verfall nicht zu denken ist!

Die deutsche Sprache war niemals in irgendeinem Sinne »fertig«, existierte nie in einer Form, die man als »rein«, alle weitere Entwicklung dagegen als Abweg betrachten könnte. Die deutsche Sprache war und ist vielmehr eine Art Projekt für genau das, was Maas formulierte: für die Bewältigung des Zusammenlebens.

Was wir nicht gebrauchen können, sind ideologische Phantasmen von »Reinheit« oder die Vermengung mit moralischen Kategorien wie »Treue« oder »Verrat«. Wir sind nicht nur »Erben«, die irgendetwas auf Gedeih und Verderb erhalten müssen. Wir sind aufgefordert, die Sprache flexibel zu halten und zu genau dem zu benutzen, worauf es ankommt: auf Mit- oder Zusammenarbeit. Allerdings schadet nicht von Zeit zu Zeit der Blick zurück in die Geschichte. Die deutsche Sprache hat viel davon zu bieten, viel Gelungenes. Für die Zukunft gibt dies durchaus Sicherheit und Selbstbewusstsein. Jammern war noch immer das falsche Rezept. Mitarbeiten ist auf jeden Fall besser.

Die deutsche Sprache hat eine interessante Geschichte, die auf 100 Seiten wirklich gut erzählt wird. An manchen Stellen etwas zu sachlich, aber doch lesenswert. Vieles wusste ich schon durch mein Germanistik-Studium, aber das Buch lässt sich definitiv auch ohne Vorwissen super lesen!
