The Prisoned series, book three:

“Because I came from you, does that mean I’m capable of killing? That I’ll be addicted to blood? That I’ll get off on torturing people?”

The kid had questions.
I didn’t blame him.
He’d only heard one side, and it wasn’t mine.

“Why did you hate my mother?”

Now, that was a story worth telling.
But, to do that, I had to bring the kid back to the very beginning.
When the killing and the blood and the torture had all started.
When I was truly happy.
When I was first called a Monster.

So we start this twisted tale with Shank in prison which threw me a little but not for long. I kinda wish I'd read the last couple of chapters of Animal again to refresh my memory as it's been awhile since I read it.

Anyway, we learn more about Shank and how he and Beard came to be best friends. Shank is one messed up motherf#$^@r, he is obsessed with blood and if you have a queasy stomach around blood I think this one might not be for you as some of the things he does with it were just wrong.
That sticky, hot red substance was all I thought about. All I craved.

 photo blood_zpscls7ckse.gif

So Shanks POV is told from the past (mostly) and he is in a Venezuelan prison recapping how he got there, I was happy that we got lots of answers and a look into one of the most twisted minds I've ever read. Then there was the letters to the 'kid'.

 photo thekid_zpsbl4dp2tq.gif

Lets talk twisted, the letters between Shank and the 'kid' where majorly disturbing to me. I mean who writes that stuff to a kid and what kid would respond like that? I suppose looking at who his father is and who raised him I shouldn't be surprised.

Arin has just finished her studying and has time to spare before starting something new, she decides to travel and chooses India only it doesn't pan out like she planned. She ends up drugged, beaten and shipped to Bangkok. When she lands on the dock in a sack she is directed to someone she is told will help her, his name is Huck.

 photo snakes_zpsuywrlh5b.gif

Huck has run a high end rub-and-tug aptly named 'Serviced' in Bangkok for five years. I kept waiting for Huck to show his 'sick' side but it never happened, he was a gentle giant with a creepy love for snakes. Huck and Arin were hot together.

 photo huckariashower_zpszuzzqcly.gif

The POV switches between four characters Shank, Arin, Huck and the 'kid'. At first this was confusing but then it turns into a mystery read as I tried to pinpoint how these four people connected. I am not going to lie I had a few theories but I enjoyed that the story kept me guessing.

I enjoyed this but not as much as the first book, maybe because my favourite character from the first book wasn't in this one. This also made me dry heave a little pushing my limits on certain things a little far.

Marni is a conundrum. A shy , introvert looking sweet woman, the kind boys take home to mommy on second date.....until she opens her brain box and out fly these characters !!!
Beard ! Huck ! Toy ! Shank !!!!!!!!!
She apparently ate starburst when she created shank ( I asked) .I'm never eating starburst..ever !!!!!
The book starts with Shank being questioned by Huck (?) What do you know about his mom or why did shank treat her and him so.
"description
My..oh...My... The story is worth telling , and worth reading ...and worth losing sleep over !
Shank is craziest MoFo created.

“Shank took whatever he wanted. He never asked for permission. In his mind, nothing was off-limits.”

He is venomous and slippery and toxic and perceptive and crazy and psychotic and cruel and simply the most chilling villain created. His name sends shivers down my spine . His means of torture would make Chengiz Khan gag !. His thirst for blood and hunger for screams of his victims...**shudders** .I'd hate to think there's a living person(s) out there like him
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

description

The characters. Shank I've explained.
Huck is the Outcast Prince, very turbulent, very disturbed.
Toy is my fave. Perfect Bottom and full of heart. His body for his Love , his Heart for Prince
Tyler is an enigma
Arin is Warrior Princess.
There's The snake pit
There's a Yellow Snake
And there's Daddy!! Oh Daddy, you are a pillar of strength !!
The story is of an iceberg-ian proprtions. The 20% you see on top is book 1. The rest of the bulk is hidden below the surface , in book 2.
My mouth was open and all in amazement in the end of book 1, which just snapped shut with book 2 And I'm Stunned, Speechless and WTF did I just read wide eyed. And now, it all come together. Perfectly , I must add.
For the record, I managed to decipher all the hidden clues so the ending was CRYSTAL CLEAR to me.
I was on the right track all along !!. YAY !!! maybe I'm as fucked up as marni , so we we were on same bone chilling frequency.
Anywho.
Read. The. Book !!
It's Brilliantly plotted , fabulously written, and exceptionally executed.!!!
Bravo, applause, felicitations, congratulations, well done Marni for twisting our brains and scaring the shirt out of us with Shank !!**gasp**

Monster
By: Marni Mann
4.5 Stars

First things first…
Monster is a follow-up to Animal. Animal must be read first.

*WARNING*
Monster is an extremely dark novel. There are strong sexual themes, drug usage, physical and sexual abuse, and torture that could trigger and/or cause emotional suffering.

If you can pass the above requirements, then you are good to go!! Proceed very slowly reading this book. This story needs 100% concentration, every word, devoured with complete dedication.
Monster is a web spun so beautifully, that you find yourself embedded like you were caught in the tangled web. Unable to stop reading from the opening chapter to the end, the story was spun and the beautiful web developed.

Shank needed to tell his story. His story is a very deep, at times gruesome and hard to stomach. But one that once you read, you will have the answers you were looking for.

The Kid, he deserved to hear what his father was like. Of course, he had questions for him. Leave it up to Shank to give the unedited version to his son.

Once the story is told, there is no going back. You will remember this book not just because it was Shank’s story, you will remember it by the Monster that Shank was!!!

*WARNING* Monster is an extremely dark novel. There are strong sexual themes, drug usage, physical and sexual abuse, and torture that could trigger and/or cause emotional suffering. You need to heed this warning because this author has gone that much darker in this book than Animal so be prepared. Some scenes are hard to read.

This review is going to be as vague as I can make it only because you need to go into this blind to enjoy it how it's mean't to be read.

MONSTER: Is BOOK#2 within the Animal Series and must be read in order.

Shank and his buddies (Beard, and Diego) were hired by people who wanted to murder their enemies in a successful underground prison, through torture, and then disposing of their bodies and ashes in the ocean. That was then but now Shank is on the wrong side of the bars and he's ready to tell you his story.

Shank had earned his name at the age of six when he'd taught himself how to make his own shanks. And that was te day when his given name Seth was no longer spoken, from this day forward he'd be known as Shank.

Shanks story which is revealed through a series of flashbacks surrounding his past and then jumps to present time to his incarceration in prison for twenty-five years.
As Monster progresses, all your questions in Animal are answered at a cunning pace, like pieces of a puzzle the author gives us pieces that we need to put together to make the bigger picture.
Nothing will prepare you for Shanks gruesome, sick twisted, tale, his need for blood, the taste of it, the feel of it, consumes him, he unleashes everything in minute detail. When the Kid writes to him asking him questions to learn more about his conception, if he’ll turn out like him etc Shank does not hold back, nothing in his replies back to the kid are sugar coated.

The Kid is after questions, he's wanting to know the background of his conception and always in the back of his mind is that one thought Am I just like my father 'I come from you, so does that mean I have another side, too?'

We're also introduced to a man who owns a thriving brothel called 'Serviced,' this man has a fascination with snakes to the point that his body is covered in them.

I grew up with them, had them as pets. My dad loved them. I guess you could say he felt comfortable around them. Over the years, I grew more attached to them. I learned all about their behaviour and studied them, so I started my own collection.

We're also introduced to a beaten up girl named Arin who this mystery man helps. Their story doesn't end here though, theirs is just getting started.

Just when I thought I’d figured out the story and all my pieces to the puzzle were where they should’ve been I was hit with another twist.

MY THOUGHTS: It's not until I reached the end that I was left floundering and wondering what the fuck had just happened, does it end in a cliffy, yes it sure does!! I went into this wanting all those questions cleared up from Animal but after finishing this book I'm left with even more questions especially about one particular character, who is she? what's her connection to these characters?
This was slow moving in the beginning so the author does a great job of slowly reeling you into a false sense of security because it's not until you reach about half way that she starts to pick the pace up and everything comes at you full throttle.

“I don’t want you to break me. I want you to fix me”.

If you’re like me, then this book has been on your most highly anticipated list and you were counting down the days until it’s release. Fortunately for me, I had the pleasure of reading this one a bit early and let me tell you, if you thought you had it all figured out in “Animal” you’re going to be in for one hell of a rude awakening.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
There are some people that are just born to be evil and Shank was one of them. You know how we all have a moral compass and it helps us in steering our lives down the good right path? Well Shank broke his a long time ago along with not having a conscience. What others would view as despicable and down right appalling, is like four course decadent meal for Shank. Blood, gore, chaos, murder, you name it, and he loves it. But Shank is in a different place now and getting his fix will be next to impossible seeing that he’s now in jail. How did he get there? How many lives did he destroy along the way?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Due to the nature of the nature of the story, it is my gift to you that I don’t go into anymore details. Other characters that are introduced? You won’t be hearing anything about them from me. Those twists and turns that you’re so desperately willing to find out? I’m not telling you shit! Why? Because this was a very layered, VERY complex story and just mentioning another character’s name, is detrimental. What I will say is that Shank is one messed up dude! He knows it, I know it, and the devil himself knows it but you know what? You fell for him anyways while wanting to do bodily harm to him and that wasn’t easy.

“I’d wiped her blood on my chest, my hands, and I’d made sure it got under my nails. I’d come on a pool of it. And I loved every fucking second.”

Do you see what I’m talking about? CRAY.FUCKING.CRAY

Certain scenes will make you cringe, you’ll question your own morals as you continue to read this story, and just when you think you’re finally at your wit’s end, you’ll be pulled down the rabbit hole once again. Was I shocked speechless with some of the revelations? Unfortunately no and I wanted that element of surprise to knock me off of my feet. But despite that, the story held it’s own and I couldn’t stop reading until the very last page.

Side Note: It is HIGHLY recommended that you read “Animal” first. Do NOT start this book until you do!

Monster is the second book in the Animal Series. A spin-off from Prisoned, each book must be read in order. Monster offers another trip down the twisted dark side.

description
"I was alone in here."
Shank has always been a mystery. With an uninhibited loyalty to his "brothers" and a twisted addiction to blood, he has always maintained order through his work at the prison and his relationships with his inner circle. When his life is turned upside down, Shank is forced to face the unthinkable. While isolated from everything he has ever known, the darkness from his past begins to threaten his future and that of the ones he holds dear. As we get a glimpse of the darkness hidden in Shank's mind all of the brutal truths of his life are exposed and as the reality of this world begins to unfold, it becomes clear that no one is safe.

description
"I need to feel you on my cock.
I need to feel that it's still you."
Told in multiple POV, Monster is a thrilling read with mystery, intrigue, scandal, and broken people. The characters are complex and as their lives are thrown under the microscope, the lines between right and wrong are blurred and the dynamics between them are intense and unforgettable. Certain elements of the plot broke my heart and yet, Marni stayed true to the characters and their plight. There are so many secrets and as the truth is revealed, the tension is uncompromising as each character fights to get what they want.

Overall, Monster is an absolute must-read for readers who like to take risks and spend an extended time on the dark side. Marni Mann has crafted a complex plot with broken characters and unforgettable circumstances. Shank is one character that I will never forget. I highly recommend jumping into this series blind. Undoubtedly, this is one trip you will never forget!

WARNING!!! Monster is an extremely dark & twisted novel.
Strong sexual themes, scenes of physical & sexual abuse, Drug use, & torture are abundant here.
Please do not take this author's warning lightly.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟STARS
I Picked up "Monster"(Animal, #2) practically as soon as I'd finished "Animal" and straight away I was plunged back into the world of confusion I've now come to expect from Marni Mann.
This lady has such a distinct way of telling a story misdirection should be her middle name.
The way she knits together the pieces of a tale keeping the reader guessing until the very end is just genius.
So I'd love to say this picked up exactly where the first instalment left off, but it really doesn't.
That would be too simple sigh.
I had no clue where the bleeding hell this was going yet again.
The only character I recognised from this was Shank who is now residing in a Venezuelan prison cell.
So Through a series of letters between Shank and Kid and flashbacks of the past, we get to hear the backstory of events that have led to his incarceration.
His story and it's hard to stomach in places.
But back to those letters,
They are very graphic dark and brutal, not really the sort of correspondence appropriate for a kid.
Through these we really get an insight into Shank's Psychotic head, showing us just how sick and twisted he really is.
The one thing I will say is these letters are certainly honest.
unempathetic and evil in their content but straightforward and candid in there intent.
Though Shank we get to find some closure as to what went down with Beard, Tyler, Diego and Toy when the curtain finally closed after the events of "Animal".
The other scenario we find ourselves visiting is Bangkok Thailand.
and here we get to meet Huck, brothel owner and reluctant rescuer.
After finding a beaten Arin on his backdoor step.
Huck her unenthusiastic white knight takes her in.
Whats starts initially as a grudging rescue Slowly escalates into more and although there is a lack of trust on Huck's part, he slowly starts to lower his defences letting Arin in.
The sexual scenes in this between Huck and Arin for me somehow counterbalance the gruesomeness off Shanks confessions.
The light to the darkness, I felt the connection. and needed this glimmer of brightness in a sea of black.
A beacon in the dark.
So eventually we are expertly steered to a surprising climax that I really loved.
It was unexpected and so well constructed within these pages that it took me completely unawares.
All is revealed to us the reader, our eyes are opened this story is finally told and the curtain can fall.
Bravo Marni your story-weaving skills are epic and twisted girl, I'm so suitably impressed.

Shank had a natural hunger for blood. As a guard at his special prison, he had endless supply of it. But now everything changed. Someone wanted to learn about him and his past, and he was more than willing to reveal the monster within.

I absolutely love Shank in book 1. I have a thing for unapologetically sick characters lol! He had a certain need and I love that he never restrained himself.

“I don’t want you to break me. I want you to fix me.”

However, I feel like Shank didn't get to fully shine in this book. Maybe I'm biased because I love him so much but I don't like he had to share the spotlight with another character, even though it added layers to the story lol! There were more snakes than rats, than I prefer.

One of my favorite parts in the killing process was when the inmate woke up and saw my face, and I told them what I was going to do to them. Their first response was so beautiful. So animalistic. Terrified. Hysterical.

Also, I figured things out quite in advance, so the revelations were not a surprise for me, but still I enjoyed the journey to the truth. I'm happy with the darkness level of the story. It managed to make me cringe at one point. The sex scenes were hot especially the one that involved blood haha!

Monster is a story of being one true self. It would appeal to readers who are not afraid to revel of the dark.

Shank is a man with unique tastes. Operating underground for years, his life has taken a different turn leaving him with few options. During this time, Shank is asked about his story and shares his experiences without any edits. Getting into Shank’s mind is disturbingly honest and while there is madness, there is also a level of acumen steeped in darkness.

“In his mind, nothing was off-limits.”

Someone is seeking answers with the knowledge that it will be complicated and horrific, yet there is also an opportunity to learn on multiple levels. Though wanting to feel separate from the blood, violence and hatred, it cannot be avoided. Fighting what is already present can either make one stronger or ultimately weaker.

“You’re the reason I’m doing this.” I lifted him higher until his feet were off the ground, and I shifted my weight forward to put all my strength on his throat.”

description

Told in multiple POVs, the foundation is laid while intersecting and mysterious plot points begin to grow testing the integrity of the entire landscape. As the tension mounts, the inevitable is palpable yet there’s no way to know how it will all unravel. Staying true to her characters, Shank remains a depraved villain to his core and will go to any length to protect what he believes to be sacred. While his honed predatory skills do not deceive him, Shank cannot control every situation.

With secondary characters that play a pivotal role in this storyline and roles of good versus evil are delineated; however, that doesn’t mean it’s obvious as to which characters are redeemable or not. Adding to the uncertainty is the chapter arrangement which feels ominous due to foreshadowing and cleverly placed pauses adding pressure of the unknown.

Crafted by a versed author, Monster is a complex plot steeped in guile and dark suspense that lures the reader from the first page. For those who enjoy lurking in the shadows, I highly recommend!

Monster 1.jpg

In this book we get to see two separate stories; it goes from past and present and I found myself enjoying the past a lot more.  I found the past was darker than the present; at least that's what it seemed to me. We basically get a feel of exactly how dark Shank is.  His "Monster" side comes out and he does not hold back on details.

“Cum floated, and I wanted to watch mine swim across her blood.”

While Shank spent a long time in jail he writes letters and on this letters he explains things that happened on book one that I was very curious about.  Finding out these details made me dislike some characters from the past.  I don't justify why Shank did what he did; obviously he was a monster and didn't care to show it.

“Here, we don’t have general population. We only have death row. There is no parole. No release dates. When you’re sent to this prison, you die here.”

The other couple on this story was interesting; sadly I found I couldn't connect with either one of them.  I liked the hero more than the heroine thought; perhaps because I never felt she was being one hundredth percent truthful.  However; I felt their connection was mainly physical and didn't felt like they actually loved each other.  I tried to understand them but I guess I just couldn't love their relationship something just felt off for me.

The twist at the end was.., well definably not expected.  I was anticipating a big crazy twist but did not see that coming.  I don't feel I had enough background onto the why the ending happened; so it left me unsettle about how I feel about the story overall.  Truthfully; I think Shank did not disappoint; he was an animal, a completely crazy monster; someone I expected him to be.    Overall, this book was still pretty intense and I feel it would be appealing to readers who are not afraid of dark books.

SORDID! “Monster” was FREAKing sordid as all hell!!! *Heed the warnings folks...this is as dark as I’ve ever read! Pure evil!

I’ve never, and I mean ever, read about more of a disturbingly macabre, deviant than Shank! No foolin,’ he’d be like head demon in charge of book hell! Perpetually skeeved out by this twisted sicko, would be an understatement!
His pet of choice is like the equivalent to a nightmare for me! NO BUENO!!!
I had to stop reading, and put my iPad down after reading some of his initial words, because it made me down right nauseous during some parts. How this author even conceived a character so vile, and depraved is beyond me! It takes one immensely vivid imagination, and I’ve gotta give Ms. Mann, credit for it!

Thankfully, there were three other POV’s in this book. The one character I liked most was Huck, actually I really liked him, especially with what I find out towards the end. I have a huge soft spot for a good guy, and that he was! Talk about breaking the mold!!! His pet preference isn't a favorite of mine either! Although, I can at least lay eyes on his at a pet store...if I had to;) Not that surprisingly, we don’ t find out much about how some of the other characters connect until the very end.

I guess I’m still processing this book, and I guess the series as a whole. I figured out some of the mystery pretty early on in this one. I did like the ending, if I take my emotion out of it. I find myself having to do that with these types of books, especially with this author! The romance aspect is only a part of the equation, though there was a good bit, it once again felt overshadowed by this tangled web of a tale. Any notion of an HEA...subjective;)

What happened here?!

Muito bommmm e eu adorei! <3

It's like that train wreck you can't look away from! I can't really talk about the book without spoilers so just know this is Shank's story, and oh my what a story. What a twisted web of craziness!!!!!

This series must be read in order and warning, there are many, many triggers and scenarios which may make you uncomfortable!!!!

Thank you to my Secret Santa Tasha for giving me this book!

Unfortunately, this book did nothing for me. I didn't enjoy it all. I found it to be strange, disturbing, confusing, and frankly sick. There was way too much going on, the stories and how they intertwined between the 4 POV's were made my mind all mushy (seriously, to say I was confused especially at the end would be an understatement), and the character interactions were so unrealistic that I nearly laughed the whole way through. I am not saying this to be mean, and I honestly appreciate the authors work, but readers are looking for honest reviews so I am giving them my HONEST thoughts.

One of the things I did enjoy from this story was figuring out the connection between all 4 characters. Marni Mann does a great job at building the suspense and keeping her readers interested enough to want to read on to see this connection. So when the connection is made it's like a light bulb goes off and **ding ding ding** we have an ah ha moment. But other than that, the novel is lackluster with unlikable characters that I was unable to connect with in any way.

I don't want to forget to mention the ending either. What in the actual fuck was that about!?! I am so confused. Is it ending on a cliffhanger? I don't see another book after this one yet. Is it being left like that to slowly drive readers crazy? WHAT!! You guys, if you like your books wrapped up in a nice, pretty bow at the end, you will NOT get that with this book.

I won't sum up this book. I have no desire to do so because it just wasn't my thing. But I will say this. It's dark, brutal, disgusting, bloody, morbid, and utterly psychotic (like some characters). There are scenes of rape, murder, exchanging sex and blow jobs for a piece of paper in prison, and violence. There were moments I was gagging because of the nastiness that was dripping from the pages , and moments when I wanted to physically punch some of the characters. It's not a book for everyone. If you don't like the things mentioned above, don't read it. That's your warning.

**ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**

description

"So, I rewound my thoughts to when I was twelve. To when I'd killed for the first time."

Let me start by saying that Marni Mann writes dark novels like no other. I am used to anti-heroes and villains, but Marni always takes it a step further and gives monsters the main stage. This book focuses on Shank, who is one crazy and twisted individual. There is no doubt that he is a monster and just evil. I usually love villains or anti-heroes in books, but I would NOT want to be caught by Shank. I was intrigued by him when I read about him in Animal, so I was excited to learn more about his past. He has done some really horrific things in his life and loves it.

This book also focused on another character. From what I read and experienced in the first book, I was just waiting on the big reveal. I was looking for clues and connections, because Marni does a great job in hitting the reader with plot twists when they least expect it. I loved the moment when I found the missing pieces to the puzzle. It started to make more sense, but just when I thought I figured it out, I was hit with another twist. The ending just like with Animal has me wanting more, I just need more answers to my questions. This review is pretty vague because I don't want to spoil it. Go in blind and enjoy the dark ride.

I loved first book and I loved Beard and Tyler in that first book. I was expecting totally diferent development in second book. First I didn't like the direction where it went, but it is sooo absurd story you just must love it. I liked ending too, it was perfect.

If you are into bizzare, monstrous, extreme stories you should read it.

Good God. I need to catch my breath. What the heck did I just read?! I have loved this series from the beginning with Prisoner, had my mind blown with Animal and honestly I'm speechless after Monster. What a compete and utter psychotic masterpiece. I really don't even know what to say. This book was epic. Just when you think you know what's going on, you really have no idea. This series is genius and is such a perfect example of a dark and twisted mindgame from the very first book. Gahh! I could not get enough!

Without giving away any spoilers or ANY form of pertinent information, (as this story is best appreciated when you have no idea what's coming), this story is told in a series of flashbacks from the past and then jumps into the present. You are given information in the form of breadcrumbs which you have to piece together. Lord. What a story. This was dark and sexy and so consuming. You legit have NO IDEA what is going on but you will have nothing but theories and guesses. You can't help but play detective as I swear to God this story will consume you. You will be on the edge of your seat and will no doubt be texting your book buddy with a dire need to go over every crazy and intense part of this story you just read.

All in all, this book was amazing..it was so sexy and compelling..it was honestly one of the best series I have ever read. I absolutely can't wait for more psychotic greatness from Ms. Mann in the future as this series has catapulted her to the top of my "Must Have Now" list. Bravo!! 5 stars! ~Ratula

5 Sexy & Sick Stars!

You'd have to read it to believe it.
This series is filled with disgusting, depraved, mind messery. But, dang, the moments of sexy are heart-racing. I had no idea what to expect from this book. First of all, make sure to read Animal first, this duet needs all your brain function. Because it's going to chew you up and spit you out. For reals.

Monster concludes with devious delight, a clean cut to your throat type of surprise. I opened this book with antipication and closed it with a huge smile. Not for the faint of heart, this book had my dark heart pumping and my demons laughing with deliciousness. I'd say this is probably one of my favorite series, because it's brutal, real, and leaves you subtracting, adding, multiplying with fierce emotion.

Two stories play out like a dark fantasy, each has you turning the pages with eagerness and compulsion. Every character giving you a piece of the puzzle, yet leaving you in desperate need of more. I LOVED EVERY BIT!

PS.
I've never read a non-dark book by Marni Mann, but, balls, if she made me this happy with the angsty, lusty, I-want-it-all eroticism in this book. What have I been missing? Good god. Give me more. I better catch her sensual side. HAHA!

Animal left me with questions and Monster gave me answers!

This story is told by Shank, 'Kid', Huck and Arin

Shank answers all of the questions from his prison cell. He tells 'Kid everything about Beard, his mother and Toy.

description

And while I am thankful for all of the answers I didn't get enough Shank. Well, not the Shank we came to love in Animal anyway. In Animal we got to see Shank in action.

“Shank took whatever he wanted. He never asked for permission. In his mind, nothing was off-limits.”

But in Monster he tells his truths giving only enough detail to get the point across.

description

Then there is Huck and Arin. Arin shows up at Huck's backdoor beaten and bruised.

"All those bruises had been worth it. The best part was, none of them had turned into scars."

Their relationship starts to grow but, is it true or was it planned?

description description

I started to figure things out kinda of quickly however, I still enjoyed the ride. This is a dark but not too dark read. (I thought Animal was a little darker, more bloody details) I have triggers and while parts were uncomfortable for me it wasn't overwhelming but be warned please do not take the author's warning lightly.

*WARNING*
Monster is an extremely dark novel. There are strong sexual themes, drug usage, physical and sexual abuse, and torture that could trigger and/or cause emotional suffering.

Yes! Yes! Yessssssss! Now this is what I’m talking about! Who gives a flying flip about perception and feelings? Shoot straight from the hip! Straight. No Chaser.

Shank is DA MAN! He’s not interest in impressing anyone. Least of all The Kid. You ask a question and you’re getting an answer and then some with Shank!

I would advise before you enter Shank’s world you heed the warnings, read the reviews, and leave your feelings and opinions at the DOOR! You’re about to enter Shank’s world. He doesn’t have the time nor the inclination to sugar coat his story or maintain any political correctness.

Takeaways....do not enter if you’re not ready! This is not romance. There are scenes that can be construed as triggers. If you’re not sure, do not enter! To those who wallow in the dark, BOOYAH! This story is definitely for you. Grab the Jack D, get comfy, and let’s do this!

Five stars!

 photo shankcell1_zps0r8v8z3e.gif

Huck and Arin were were hot together.

 photo huckariashower_zpszuzzqcly.gif

The POV switches between four characters Shank, Arin, Huck and the 'kid'. At first this was confusing but then it turns into a mystery read as I tried to pinpoint how these four people connected. I am not going to lie I had a few theories but I enjoyed that the story kept me guessing.

I enjoyed this but not as much as the first book, maybe because my favourite character from the first book wasn't in this one. This also made me dry heave a little pushing my limits on certain things a little far.

THE BEST DARK EROTICA BOOK I’VE EVER READ (aside from ANIMAL)!!!!

While reading MONSTER, I couldn’t put it down while simultaneously trying not to read it too quickly in an attempt to savor every delectable word. When I finished MONSTER, my head felt like it was literally spinning and now, 24 hours after finishing it, I still can’t stop thinking about what I read! MONSTER is a powerful, moving, shocking, mind-fu

Anyone can write a pitch-black dark story but it was obvious that the plot in MONSTER was carefully thought out - there was nothing predictable about this book and I was repeatedly surprised. As an avid reader of dark erotica, it’s rare that I read something that makes me cringe yet I cringed 3 different times while reading MONSTER! It wasn’t just the articulate words or impressive character development that had me shivering though, Marni Mann is one of the few authors talented enough to create a deep subtext as well. Mann produces a sense of there being an, “untold” story, invoking a feeling that there is more beneath the surface. Mann has created something truly special in MONSTER.... I can’t stop thinking about this crazy, intense book!! I wish I could erase my memory and read it over again for the first time!!!

There is a reason why I refer to Marni Mann as my Dark Queen and with Monster she earns her crown once again.
HOLY CRAP! this book is dark and full of twisted depravity and I loved every word of it.
Shank is deranged and has an insatiable thirst for blood, he is what nightmares are made of. What we saw of him in Animal is nothing compared to what we see in this book. Marni Mann is a mastermind! Her words captivate and her characters will haunt you. This book brilliantly weaves the to the answers to the questions that you had after reading Animal but you must pay attention and connect the dots.
Do not read this book if you are.... sane (you will not be afterwards), if you ever want to sleep again, or if you are eating, just don't do it!!!
I hope this isn't the last we see of this series or these characters, Marni please give Toy his own book!

Monster (Animal #2) by Marni Mann
4.5 stars!!!

“I don’t want to be you. I won’t ever be you.”

Marni Mann does sick and twisted like no other and she really delved deep into her deliciously dark psyche to conjure up this insane journey that she takes great pleasure in taking the reader on. Animal was the first book in this series, and while that shows just how capable she is, it seems we only saw the tip of the ice berg when it came to Shank. Suspenseful, cringe inducing at times (in the best way), Marni Mann really delivered in cementing you firmly in Shank’s depraved world, but while he shared the limelight in this book with a few other characters the end result would have always been the same.

“Cum floated, and I wanted to watch mine swim across her blood.”

This book does have a fair few twist and turns, most I saw coming and some I didn’t. It didn’t matter that I saw the writing on the wall because the delivery is what really brought this book into its own. As with Animal, this book has two parallel stories running side by side and you have that sense of foreboding when you suddenly realise that never the twain shall meet. With many point of views it can sometimes confuse a story, however, with Monster, it is these points of view that ramp up the suspense and draw the reader further into Marni Mann’s warped and twisted psyche. With that constant niggle in the back of your head that nobody is as they seem you will constantly find yourself desperately trying to read between the lines as subtle and not so subtle clues are expertly delivered.

“Here, we don’t have general population. We only have death row. There is no parole. No release dates. When you’re sent to this prison, you die here.”

I will say that when I knew we would be getting Shank’s book I was expecting super-duper dark, I mean, after what we learned about him in Animal, you always knew he was one sick and twisted excuse of a human being. While in Animal, Beard had a heart, I am sure this necessary organ was severely lacking with Shank and while I didn’t have that love for Shank like I had for Beard, my heart went out to those he affected and it seems his reign of terror is far from over. However, you cannot be Shank without racking up a few enemies of your own and it is these that add another layer to this story.

“…You know that underneath all your growls and edges and dark layers, you’re the kindest man with such a big, beautiful, protective heart.”

Marni Mann delivered a book that I wasn’t expecting, when this book was announced my brain went into overdrive as to how and what would happen and while I was way off with my interpretation of Shank’s life, what I got was so much better. I will admit I shed a few tears as Marni Mann delivered the mother of all shocks and I also found myself frantically trawling Animal for a clue that I had forgotten that suddenly made everything a whole lot clearer. If you have time, maybe have a refresher with Animal as some clues are well worth retaining.

“Beard, Diego and me never thought we’d get caught. We’d never planned for what would happen next. We’d certainly never anticipated what actually went down in the end.”

Marni Mann knows how to end a book, her endings are what nightmares are made of, and she didn’t disappoint with Monster. The more this author writes the more I fall in love with her voice and her inherent ability to write a fantastic story no matter the genre. This is a book you will not want to put down and with two stories to keep the grey matter ticking over your brain will have certainly had a work out. Once again Marni Mann delivered and while I cannot see her re-visiting these characters they have certainly left their mark and while I would certainly be welcome of a little more the main course we had more than sufficed. Maybe we can all persuade her to deliver some dessert, once she has cleared those demons that she surely conjured to write this damn series in the first place. A fantastic series that I can highly recommend. (Prisoned, Animal (Prisoned spin-off #1), Monster: Animal #2)

“All those bruises had been worth it. The best part was, none of them had turned into scars.”

Other quotes:

“Most of the chicks around here were scared of my snakes. They didn’t appreciate the slickness of snakeskin. The softness of their tongues. Their slithering sounds.
Yet snakes reminded me so much of women. They both had delicate, silky bodies, and they shared the same behavior right before they ate. They even rattled when they were stroked.”

“Deep down, beneath his layers of coil and his sharp fangs, was a man worth knowing.”

No clue what to say about Monster, other than I’m a complete and utter mess. This book was so good! It was very sick and twisted but I couldn’t put it down. There were so many aspects that I never saw coming and it made for such a riveting read! I LOVE Huck.... that’s all I can really say with certainty. Other than that, I’m still trying to wrap my head around what I just read.

Monster by Marni Mann is the second installment in the Animal Series. Monster is not a standalone, you must read Animal first.

*WARNING*
Monster is an extremely dark novel. There are strong sexual themes, drug usage, physical and sexual abuse, and torture that could trigger and/or cause emotional suffering. - the author.
Please do NOT take this warning lightly!
Monster is excactly like Marni Mann described in her warning.
Shank is imprisoned and has to atune for his crimes. But he´s dark-sick just like always.
And there is a gentlemen´s establishement owner in asia, a broken doll at his door step, crime, violence, blood and darkness.

Let me tell you, this book did a number on me. I read it in one sitting and was at the edge of my seat the whole time. I´m asking me how can such evil exists in the world?
But I have to confess, I greatly enjoyed this book. Monster is a dark twisted read, a mindfudge of epic proportions. When you love dark romance, this is the book for you !
Monster gets 5 dark dark stars. Thank you, Marni Mann !
