I concur with the 80% of reviewers to date who award five stars to Kimberly Rae Jordan for what is, in reality, the third book in this series if you include the prequel. The prequel (A Handful of Flowers) sets the stage by introducing the diverse core cast of characters and lays the foundation for the series. In book one (A Change of Heart) Makayla McFadden, one of the core characters, finds her match with Ethan Collins. In this book, Bennett McFadden is matched with Grace Moore, a character introduced in A Change of Heart. An issue raised in the prequel remained unresolved until this book, yet the consequences of that issue are still undecided at the close of this book.
All this is to say that, although advertised as a stand-alone book and the author does an excellent job of providing the background for a stand-alone novel, the reading experience will be significantly enhanced by starting with the prequel and reading the books in sequence. Even then, I was challenged at times to keep the large cast of characters straight.
Without disclosing spoilers, I found the protagonists and the storyline to be believable, complex, and relatable. There were some grammar, punctuation, and typo errors but not so significant as to limit my overall reading experience.
