I bought this after seeing the accompanying exhibit at the Saint Louis Art Museum. As a picture book, it's wonderful, with beautiful photographs of the artifacts and the excavation. Just don't try to read it. I've never read anything more verbose, padded, and repetitive. I swear the author stated that Seth murdered Osiris at least two dozen times in the first 50 pages. It was organized poorly, had no clear flow of thoughts or facts, and was overall tedious. I made it 50 pages and feel like I've put enough effort into this for now.
I truly recommend the exhibit, but just buy postcards or a picture book and skip this headache of a read.
Laypeople beware! While the basis of this book is an extraordinary archaeological find with far-reaching implications for our understanding of the ancient Mediterranean, the text is nigh impenetrable.
