In what might be my kids favorite installation yet - Super Rabbit Boy and King Viking battle it out in a grand race. The kids LOVED all the new characters just for racing (and the return characters and their special racing powers) and they loved the story. We got in bed reading early enough to finish in one sitting this time and I've already been asked about 30 times who I would choose if only Super Rabbit Racers were a real game (and why).
Really love how much my video game/reading obsessed child loves these books. They are a perfect intersection of his interests. I know he can't wait to read the rest of them.

This one made me nostalgic for Mario Kart. I liked how the characters learned from their fighting.

I enjoyed this book because I like press start books. I did not like this book because I did not like the part when King Viking won the second race.

In this story, Chris joins Sunny and Rue for a few friendly rounds of Rabbit Racers. (He’s never played before, but they assure him he’ll do great.) With four races and seven other players he’s up against, Chris selects his champion: Nugget the Chicken. And they’re off!
Similar to other books in this intro-level graphic novel series, most of the action is taking place in the video game world. There’s a bit of a tiff between Sunny and Rue at one point over an accidental sideswipe, but otherwise the conflict is all between the racers on the screen. The font is large enough to be easily read, but small enough to not seem babyish. There are plenty of bright colors and simple emotion conveyance. The artistic distinctions between game and real life are clear—pixels versus smooth lines and higher detail.
A solid gateway pick for reluctant young readers who enjoy video games and/or comics.

My video-game-lovin' early reader is digging these books! We went to our local bookstore the day this came out to snatch it up, and he had already read half of it before we left the store. He's read through it 3 times, one of them being to me, so I count it as a book listened to! :-) Keep it up! Can't wait till the next one comes out in January!
Update: My 2yo brought this to me, and I ended up reading to my four youngest boys (11, 6, 5, 2). It held their attention the whole time!

I think some parents and teachers will try to devalue this book and the series but I have to say hurrah for the author recognizing a niche and going for it.
The book is an early chapter book (part of the Scholastic branches set) that aims to get children moving on from very basic reading skills to a chapter book with pictures and sentences.
It tells the story of a video game race similar to a Mario Kart 4 track race. It introduces the characters and you pick your favorite. The story is about each race and what happens - who does well, who cheats. It is a basic easy to read book which will catch the eye of any young kid who is interested in video games.
Any book that gets kids reading by catching their interest is awesome in my book and I think this series really does that!
My daughter gives it 5* and has read the previous 2 in the series by herself too. I’m not sure how it could be better and still contain all the attractiveness that draws kids to it but I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as her as it’s not meant for me so I’m going with 4* on my goodreads site!!

{My thoughts} – The perfect book for any reader that enjoys games similar to Mario Kart. I really liked this book. It is written and illustrated the same as the previous two books.
A couple of kids are playing a video game. They play together and it’s their job to beat the mean King Viking. King Viking gives them a run for their money in this book though. I really like how the game aspect and the children playing the game aspect blend together nicely.
This is a must have series for any child that loves playing video games.

I recommend this because,
It is an epic adventure about Meanie king Viking(team Viking) vs. Super rabbit boy in Racing.
Super Rabbit boy has Jody and Nugget the chicken in his team.King Viking has Robo Bobo and princess pirate in his team.
Problem arises when Jody fights with Super rabbit boy.
My favorite part in the book was when king Viking flew out of the stadium and they put his crown in second place :)
Make sure to read this book to find out what happens.

Okay, so this is a book about motorsports… they know my weak points. Bravo!
The book is undoubtedly elementary in its looks and story.
They reuse the common trope of “unexpected character wins the race” (in this case, nugget the LITERAL CHICKEN)
Overall, good, but needs some improvement.

My kids are still loving this series, which makes them laugh out loud. Who can go wrong with a book about video games that has characters with such silly names? My boys especially love the chicken named Nugget.

This book is about a race that Super Rabbit Boy needs to win. Will he win? I really enjoy this series. It's a book that takes video game characters as living and breathing animals. It's fun and adventurous. You see things from Super Rabbit Boy's point of view.

The kids invite a friend over to play a racing game. Mostly gameplay and little characterization within the game. The brother and sister start arguing by the end, so the video game characters do too.

The boy and I read this one together. then he read it to himself several times in a row. Reads just like a Mario Kart Race. Great for readers who like video games. Fun pictures.

This series is one I recommend to first and second graders. I think it's an engaging story, especially since it's about players in a video game. I liked this book more than #1 and #2.

Cute book for kids. The family is great and the video game play will interest lots of kids. The questions at the end are great for parents. This one has a great play together message.
