I'm very sorry Secret. You started out well, but this is where our paths must separate.
Your author hit one too many of my pet peeves, and it's better to leave you now instead of ending up hating every last bit of you.
For one thing, your nagging about "hanging onto your humanity" is getting on my nerves. You're a half blood by birth, 50 % wolf, 50 % vampire and 0,00% human. Suck it up already and start behaving like the supernatural heroine that you set out to be in the prequel (instead of the irresponsible adolescent twit you seem to have turned into, running away no less, .
For another, I can no longer deal with all the inconsistencies and pointless plot points. The lack of motivation of almost every character is driving me crazy. Your love life makes neither sense nor progress. The whole setup of this book was preposterous (.
But what really, really killed it for me were the inconsistencies. To name just a few:

More easily a four-star rating than the first book in the series, Something Secret This Way Comes, and it strikes me that one of the things I've really been enjoying about this series so far is that the heroine (in all senses of that word), the oddly named Secret McQueen, is so often in over her head. In this case that makes her feel much more real to me than most urban fantasy leads--Secret has plenty of power for a 22-year-old slayer of rogue vampires (and good heavens, what energy!) but the situations & the individuals she has to deal with take her way past her limits.
No wonder she runs away and has to be dragged back! And small wonder she turns this way and that to find ways to meet the challenges she tried to escape. The effect is that it gets me right in there with her in a breath-taking, fast-paced adventure full of dangers and ethical dilemmas, and I can see why she makes some of the choices that get her deeper into trouble.
To recap, Secret is half vampire and half werewolf, and that's posited here as a unique half-breed. Her vampire side is closer to the surface--she has to avoid the sun, drink blood, etc.--and she hasn't turned furry since she was two years old, but the top werewolves of New York City still recognize her as one of their own. New York's werewolf king Lucas has made her his queen but his second-in-command Desmond is also bonded to Secret, and in this installment #2 she and Desmond are pretty convincing lovers while Lucas is less present than in #1.
But continuing the recap, Secret has worked for the Vampire Council since she was sixteen, and its leader Sig assigned vampire Holden Chancery to be her warden (read: handler). These two become the main players in the present book, and of course that raises the possibility of a reverse harem of four--well, at least it would be even at two and a half vampires and two and a half werewolves! With dream presences, teleportation, and a remarkable sex scene an already intense drama gets wildly complicated. In contrast to some of the other reviewers, though, I never felt Secret was reminiscent of Anita Blake.
The central plot of this book, pretty clearly described in the publisher's blurb (see top of this Goodreads page), is a big spoiler for the ending of the first book, so if you haven't read it yet here goes:
Secret puts herself in mortal danger again and again right through the twist-filled story and up to a gripping climax in an abandoned amusement park that's described so well you may feel you've switched genres from urban fantasy to horror. I never guessed the solution to the mystery, and Secret pulls off a major coup of bringing powerful forces together to trap the evildoer.
And yes, with all the twists along the way, there's another huge twist on the last page that I never saw coming.

Another fabulous installment from Sierra Dean, who is quickly climbing to my top shelf of favourite authors!!!
The last book left me choked, a sinful ending but one that can be forgiven - ONLY because I had this book at the ready!!!
A great storyline, but more so, these books seem to get me thinking more than most... My friends know I try to second guess books and this one is the same but because there is the the wolfish double bonding extra, I'm fighting with my feelings... Lucas seems the ever 'hotness' of the book boyfriend world but he is slick with charm and maturity... Desmond, he's just delectable and my favourite of the two, so of course I am thrilled at the proposition he makes in this book that Secret can't say 'no' to!
Holden is hiding, as we know from the previous book, that cliff hanger was a doozer!!! It's up to Secret to either bring him in or sort things out... so, again, my feeling chipped away at me, I passed judgement too quickly because of the dreams.... and boy was I glad to give him a reprieve... BUT now I'm thinking about how I wanted Secret and Holden to be in a relationship from the prequel book!!! Ms Dean, what are you doing to me????
What I love about these books is that there is not just a main storyline, there is the under current of sidelines that keep you intrigued as much as the main plot and I lose myself in these pages... However, the thing that's gotten to me is that dam finishing line... this time, the cliff hanger may not be the same as the previous one, but it's one that has me thinking Oh Shit!!!

This series is quickly becoming an addiction of mine. Luckily, I only have one more book to read in order to get caught up; I was starting to feel bad about neglecting the other novels waiting in my queue. Sierra Dean left me with no other choice though. Something Secret This Way Comes left me begging to know what happens next. I opted to save face a little and bought the next novel instead. A Bloody Good Secret starts off a little slower than its predecessor but don’t worry, you’ll find yourself knee deep in Secret McQueen awesomeness in no time. The ending of this second installment is no less shocking either and if you’re prone to series obsession like I am; it’s probably best if you have all three books at your disposal before you dive in. Don’t say that I didn’t warn you!
The first half of this story wasn’t my favorite. The pace was a lot slower than what I’ve come to expect from this series and I was anxious to get to the good stuff. I think the fact that Sierra makes readers wait for the answer to Something Secret This Way Comes’s cliffhanger ending might have had something to do with it. I’m not the most patient of people, especially when it comes to books. That point aside, I think Dean does a great job of summarizing the first book while setting up the chess board in preparation for the upcoming amazing plot twists. The fruits of her labour shine through in the end though and my reaction after the final page was something along the lines of: “omg-omg-omg!”
Once the ball started rolling there was no stopping it! The action is all consuming and the clever way in which Sierra weaves her plot lines is mesmerizing. I’m pretty good at guessing the outcome of books, TV episodes, movies, etc but with this series all bets are off! I was completely blindsided by the big bad and by Secret’s new role. There’s nothing that I like more than a book that keeps me on my toes!
I thought that Secret’s love triangle was complicated enough in the last book but I was wrong! Another man’s been added to the mix, so that makes 3 now. I have some concerns as to where this is going. It took Anita Blake way more than just two books to end up with this many lovers and my opinion of that series has been slowly declining ever since it became more about sex and less about hunting vampires. I’d hate to see Dean fall into the same trap. Secret’s only slept with one of them so far though which means that there’s still hope! I’m completely over Lucas, the werewolf king. In fact, I never really liked him to begin with and this book further reinforced those feelings. I want him gone! I remain skeptical about Holden but I have nothing but love for Desmond. Pick him! Pick him! If anyone can salvage the mess that is McQueen’s love life it’s Sierra Dean. Here’s hoping for a non-Anita-Blake-ish outcome!

Even though it wasn’t quite as good as the first installment; it’s still a wildly entertaining read that ends with yet another brutal cliffhanger. Damn you Sierra Dean! You’ve left me with no choice (once again) but to read Deep Dark Secret.

A Bloody Good Secret is the second book in Sierra Dean’s Secret McQueen series. A series about a seriously kick ass chick who is half vampire and half werewolf. The first book ended in somewhat of a cliffhanger. I didn’t find it to be an “OMG I am going to track down the author and throw water balloons at her for doing this to me!” kind of ending, just an “OMG Really?!? As if?!? What is Secret going to do now?!?” kind of ending. Basically, the perfect sort of cliffhanger for me.
Now this incredible jaw dropping ending could have lead the story for book two in many different ways. Secret could have been angry and just taken it out on everyone. She could have just gone ahead and got the task over with. She could even have decided to just up and quit her job as a bounty hunter to the vampire council. But she didn’t do any of those things. What she did do is run – and I loved that that is what she decided to do.
Secret is a strong character who won’t take crap from people. She is the only one of her kind and keeps her mixed heritage to herself. She is essentially an assassin. And she has quite the snarky mouth on her (one of my favorite parts about her). But she is still scared sometimes and she is still vulnerable sometimes. Her decision to flee shows that side of her – it makes her more real, more normal. Because I think, when facing what she is facing, most of us would want to do that too. I also think how she comes back to facer her task is very true to Secret and her life.
Secret is mate-bonded to two (yes two) werewolves. Lucas is the werewolf king and he is yummy. In the first book, I was totally team Lucas. The chemistry between him and Secret was burning…even though they never actually get the deed done in that book. But, seeing that he is the king and all, he is a bit of an alpha nightmare for our extremely independent Secret. She didn’t ask to be bonded to this man, or any man. It’s just some chemical thing that happens.
The other wolf that she is bonded to is Desmond. In the first book, I thought he was yummy, but I didn’t get the apparently strong bond they have. Well, there are no more questions in my mind – Desmond is hot and he and Secret are smokin’ together! And now that I see how these two are together, I sort of want to see her with Lucas to compare. What does that tell you about me that I actually want to see Secret do the nasty with another guy so I can see who she is strongest with?!
Holden is a mystery but I like him a lot. And Sig is fun! He is another character I am really curious about. I wonder about the motivations of both of these men. Wow…Secret really is surrounded by lots of men, isn’t she?! How is it I only just noticed this now… *lucky lady*
The story in this installment is go go go. Nonstop excitement with twists that make your eyes pop out of your head from time to time. There are some of the creepiest ‘things’ that I have ever read too. Just…ew. And who was behind all of the upheaval came as a surprise to me.
Overall, I am really really enjoying this series. Secret is an awesome character, bringing with her the perfect mix of strength and softness. She often makes me laugh out loud while reading her dialogue. The stories so far have been well paced and fun to read and Sierra has a gripping writing voice that makes me want to keep reading.

Sierra Dean created a fantastic world and characters for her book. Starting from the heroine's personality, job and her jumbled relationships the reader gets an explosive and energetic story. It's simply grabs your attention and doesn't let it go until you're on the last page.
A Bloody good secret strats three months after the events from the previous book. Wich means we miss this three months form Secret life, there is only a few brief mention of it in the whole book. And let me tell you I I would like to know the details. Thanks to this gap Secret reaction stays unexplained whereupon her actions seem immature regarding certain events.This immature character doesn't identify with the badass, warrior woman who stands between vampires and werewolves without batting an eye. During the whole story she couldn't find her place and I miss the Secret McQueen from the first book.
On the other hand her new self doubt and questions prove that she isn't invulnerable and unerring giving her a human quality. She makes mistakes and bad decisions and a lot of them. Makes it easier for us to imagine ourselves in her place.
There is that love triangle I hate love triangles. Hovewer it looks like Secret learned to juggle it better than in the first installement, but she still lets the two men decide for her. Not good Secret, not good at all. Grow a pair already.
Oh and to make her love life even better there is a fourth party inching into the picture. It's starting to look interesting.

First of all there will be spoilers from book 1 as I am gonna squee and ramble on.
I read book 1 today and thought, why did no one tell me the series is so good?! (ok maybe they did and I did not listen). After finishing it I had a serious case of withdrawal and you know I had to get more. So I had to get and start book 2 and I did not put it down. So what made it so good? A great heroine that goes her own way, and is both vampire and werewolf. And in the last book she found out she is soulbound, not only to the werewolf king but to his second in command too. Sure Lucas is good and rich, but I am lusting over Desmond more. Just cos he was more willing to stand there at the side watching them court. I heart Desmond. But, all is not good, honestly I need to read more! In the last book there was a mention that her vampire side will find someone too. And I am dying to know who it is, someone knew? Holden? ..the freaky Finn Sig?
You know a series is good if I read 2 in a day. And when I want the books in print as I read ebooks.

In this installment of the Secret McQueen series, Secret is left reeling from an assignment which was given to her at the end of Something Secret This Way Comes: Secret McQueen, Book 1, which a few readers believed to be a cliff hanger.
I will say that some of the aspects of the story have improved, like Brigit not being such a huge pain in the @ss. However, some aspects went from bad to worse. The love triangle (if you want to call it that as she has yet to make love to Lucas and spends most of her time rolling around the sheets with Desmond or dreaming of Holden or fighting off some bizarre attraction to Sig)... I don't know, perhaps some of the other reviewers are right on the money when they say this is going towards Anita Blake territory but not *everyone* can find the main paranormal character appealing and a sexual turn on and this is where I struggle with this series.
I would be much more happy if at this time in her life, Secret either swears off men entirely or chooses one (at this point, ANY one as people are going to get hurt regardless what decision she makes but they'll get over it and live to see another day...er, night in Holden and Sig's case). It is just annoying because I found the book tedious at times and the so-called plot was wafer thin (hence all the reasons why Secret had so much going on because the plot isn't really all that interesting).
What I also find a bit annoying is how these supposed men who perhaps showed very little outside interest in Secret (except for perhaps curiosity or perhaps a night of rolling around in the sheets -- I am talking about the vamps here, Holden and Sig) are all the sudden on the verge of being in love with her and find her so damned irresistible. Perhaps I am missing something major but what is so special about this chick that a two thousand year old vamp and a two hundred year old vamp are soooo enthralled, they can't seem to be without her?
And is with the semi-incubus scenes with Holden and Secret?
It was an enjoyable but a forgettable read and I am only hoping the third book, Deep Dark Secret: Secret McQueen, Book 3, will be much better.

I like this author's voice, but at nearly exactly 50% in the book, I pretty thoroughly disliked the heroine while she was interacting with one of the love interests, which makes this difficult, since this is a first person voice book. I thought she was selfish and self-centered and contemplated abandoning the book (but didn't because I DO like the world). I also have a lot of trouble with any woman who's willing to just blithely accept stringing along not just two, but four (four!) potential love interests and has even just brief sensual interludes with all of them in some form. Too reminiscent of Anita Blake, and just too easy as a fallback conflict.
I'm just not a fan of the multiple love interest trope in urban fantasy as a form of conflict to drive the book, rather than other external issues/plot/story, so I'm probably the wrong audience for this book, in that regard. Which is a huge shame for me, because I really do like the author's voice and think she's got amazing potential for growth, and for the story in this world. I hope she'll quickly move away from using the multiple men as the source of conflict, and instead concentrate on the larger plot issues she's hinting at within the worldbuilding.

I have a hard time deciding if I liked this book or not. I found myself not liking Secret. She was so cold and nasty to Lucas,for reasons that made absolutely no sense. And overall to everyone she was very bratty, and not the so called strong character I expected her to be. A good example is forcing a character to admit he loved her,then getting up and just walking away! What a cold nasty person! Makes it hard to like her.
I really liked Lucas' sister, and i think she and Secret could end up being good friends!Infact I think she would be better with Desmond,because for me he's too soft and submissive for Secret.
And Secret calls Lucas he other werewolf boyfriend but how the heck can she call him a boyfriend? I just don't understand where the writer is taking this relationship that has never had a chance to develope,is she going to keep having Secret be bratty and the spoiled princess,because i think what he did in the book was justified and I can't understand Secret's contued hostilty towards her so called other boyfriend/soul bonded mate.

A Bloody Good Secret picks up about 3 months after Something Secret This Way Comes. When Secret was given the name of her next “assignment” at the end of Something Secret This Way Comes, she decided the best way to handle it was not to and ran to her grandmother’s house. But Secret should have realized that she would not be able to hide for long so when she is kidnapped and forcibly returned she isn’t so much surprised by the act as she is by the participants. Lucas Rain, King of the Werewolves, and her vampire tribunal boss, Sig, apparently decided that it was time for her to come home and acted together. Secret is both fascinated and insulted by this.
“I’d like to go home. Your driver left and I’d like to go home.”
“Secret…”
“I did miss you. I really did. And I wanted to come home. But you should have let me do it my way. I needed time.”
“I know. But Secret, we needed you here. We’re your friends.”
“Yeah. With friends like you, who the hell needs enemies.”
As Secret investigates to try to clear Holden’s name, it becomes apparent, with the help from some unlikely allies, that Holden is bring framed and unless Secret finds the true traitor, she and Holden will both suffer the consequences.
I really enjoy the world that Ms. Dean has created in her Secret McQueen series. From the name, Secret McQueen, to Secret’s job and her intricate relationships we are given an energetic and feisty urban fantasy that engages and holds your attention to the end. A wonderful balance of humor and suspense; it’s the characters in here that make this story so superb.
Secret is a bounty hunter who is just trying to survive a dual nature. Half vampire and half werewolf; she feels like she truly doesn’t belong anywhere. Add in a love triangle that is slowly becoming a quad-angle and poor Secret has a lot on her plate. Armed with engaging snark, Secret charges head on into battle and woe to anyone who gets in her way. What really appeals to me about Secret is that she is not infallible. She isn’t a supernatural with unlimited powers. She makes some poor decisions and she gets her butt kicked occasionally. Yet there is no fatalism in her. No continuous emotional angst that has you wondering, “OMG… what now?”. Ms. Dean has created a character infused with enough realism and humanistic qualities that you can’t help but bond with her.
I love that Secret seems to have a better handle on those surrounding her. Especially her love interests-Lucas and Desmond. In the first book, Something Secret This Way Comes, the soul bond between them overwhelmed her and she seemed to be led by the hand, or by the lust, when it came to them. In here she is much more in charge of her feelings around them and lets each of them know that she is not their property nor will she be dictated too. Lucas, as always, over steps boundaries, but Desmond acts from his heart and his heart is Secret. We are clued in to a possible third romantic interest-I mean, her vamp side needs some cold blooded loving too, right? I am very interested in seeing how Ms. Dean manages to blend everyone together.
The council, the pack, and the rest of the gang are in here and up to their fangs and claws in Secret’s business. We are slowing getting to know the background of all the characters, enabling us to see how they feature in Secret’s life and why. We are also introduced to some new characters that prove to be just as interesting and secretive as everyone else.
The action is non stop and as inviting as the first book. Plenty of twists, turns, and misdirection keeps us and Secret on our toes as she races to find the the true traitor in their midst. The ending is a mixture of shock and awe as everything is dramatically revealed. Secret gets quite a surprise at the very end and I look forward to seeing how she deals with it in book 3, title & date to be announced. Ms. Dean does a Christmas novella coming out November 2011, title to be announced, where Secret and her human friend, Detective Mercedes, set out to solve a string of murders.
Note: Ms. Dean tweeted in July that she has done something in book 3 that may cause me to hurt her. I am hoping she reconsiders this because I like her and would hate to have to drive to Canada and straighten her out. :)

Wowzer. Another 5 star read from Sierra Dean – this series has catapulted up my favorites list to land in the top 5, hang on, there’s a lot in my top 5, I will have to start calling it my top 10! This series is phenomenal – watch this name soar…
Secret is extraordinary. She is one kick-ass heroine, and anyone that has ever discussed books with me knows that strong minded, clever, snarky, tough protagonists rock my world.
This book starts off 3 months after Something Secret This Way ends. Secret has run away - to escape her next job - assassinating her warden Holden, and to hide from her two soul-mated werewolves, King Lucas and Second Desmond. Ahhhh Desmond. Hang on, where was I :D
Ok, so she gets kidnapped and forced to return home where she either has to complete her mission and kill Holden or find out the details and prove his innocence. I loved the way Secret didn’t fall back and expect others to do her work for her, she didn’t even really ask anyone for help she just got on with the job and readied herself to solve the mystery all the while dealing with 4 possible lovers and pains in the butt.
I adore romance, and so along side the action and drama, the best part of any book for me is the love interests. Now, I just read some other reviews and it really brought some other points of views to my mind re her treatment of Lucas. While reading, I was quick to dismiss him in this book because he just seemed to steamroll right over Secrets feelings and thoughts. I missed his kind gentle side from the first book. Looking back now after I have finished, I understand that he wanted more from her and for her to deal with the re percussions of her actions. She really didn’t give him a chance whatsoever. She did act a little like a spoilt brat. Poor Lucas. Now that I have really spent some time pondering this, I feel it’s only going to end in heartbreak for poor Desmond when Secret finally lets Lucas in. Hopefully Kellan will be there to break his fall :P Hmmm, Sig & Holden the third and forth love interests. I just dunno. I just dunno how I feel about either of those. I do know that I can not wait for the third book ‘Deep Dark Secret’ to be released in a few short weeks to find out what is going to unfold next!

A few years ago had the chance to enter into the world of Secret McQueen when read book 1 Something Secret This Way Comes and the series opener hooked me on this half vamp/half werewolf hybrid.
Since read the first book way back in May of 2011 it amazed me how easy it was to pick up book 2 A Bloody Good Secret and pick up where it left off with only a short period of adjustment to get into the rhythm and flow of the story.
Secret still has that indefinable something that makes me enjoy her as a fictional character, even when wanting at times to bop her upside the head when she gets out of hand.
Looking forward to following the rest of her escapades when get a chance to get the rest of the books in the series.

I really had no intentions of reading past the first book in this series, but I forgot that I had recommended A Bloody Good Secret to my library and I felt honor bound to read it after they added it as an ebook (seriously, they almost never add anything I suggest!).
I know lots of UF series become drastically better after the first book, but I don't think that will happen with this series. There just really isn't much time left for story telling when your main character is juggling a love/work relationship with three men and one semi-obsessed vampire boss.

I'm really enjoying Secret, the series is interesting enough to make me want to continue, but the book length is a bit to be desired. For me, the things that happen in the book take a bit to go, but when they do they go and when they end it's like it's over...but then the author needs us to find out stuff and leave us in a semi cliff hanger state. It isn't exactly a cliff hanger, but what happened at the end annoyed me. It annoyed me because we didn't get back to the scene we were in and because as I said it was a semi cliff hanger and I'm sure it's going to be part of whatever the problem is in the next book. I just I mean what happened makes sense, it's just annoying for me gah idk. Over all I enjoyed the book, though I still feel like we don't know enough about what's going on with the werewolves. I also feel like it's a bit too soon for ILYs because they haven't been together too long, but not only that but it hasn't been shown for the ILYs to have truly manifest unless, we are to believe that this metaphysical connection is what is making them say it. IDK it's interesting as I said, and I still have questions. Is she supposed to have that many? Or is she supposed to pick one as her man? I don't like the idea of her having these soul bonds and pushing them to the wayside and I'm sure her other side needs someone too so I'm so intrigued by THIS that I really don't care what the main plot is.

Un de mes livres sort de mon immense HAL (oui à ce stade ce n'est plus une pal, je dois bien l'admettre et le fait que durant de longs mois impossible de sortir, mes bibliothèques débordent ! J'avais eu l'occasion de découvrir le tome 1 par le blog tour il y a quelques années avec Between et l'envie subite de reprendre là où je m'étais arrêtée m'a tiraillé un certain nombre de fois. Ayant enfin mis au point certaines choses, je suis plus ouverte à MES lectures et j'espère tenir le bon bout. Le premier tome a été lu il y a presque 3 ans ce qui signifie que j'avais quelques lacunes, qui ont été vite mises de côté. Seul le personnage de Sig je l'avais un peu beaucoup zappé, mais en ayant de nouveau sa description, tout va bien !
Secret est partie de la ville à la fin du tome 1, ayant besoin de vacances, sans prévenir qui que se soit. Autant dire qu'elle s'est enfuie pour y voir plus clair. Un mois, deux mois, trois passent et elle n'est toujours pas revenue, préférant rester chez sa grand-mère plus ou moins cachée afin de ne pas être obligé d'effectuer le dernier contrat en date : tuer son gardien. Un contrat ordonné par le grand conseil et lorsqu'il est lancé plus rien ne peut l'arrêter. Holden est devenue une proie, mais absolument pas de choix ! Secret l'apprécie beaucoup, même si elle l'a fait tourner en bourrique plus d'une fois depuis qu'ils se connaissent et cela fait déjà 6 ans. Alors quand les trois plus puissants vampires décident qu'il doit mourir sans donner d'explications, c'est forcément Secret qui doit s'y coller : l'innocenter et accessoirement trouver le coupable. Qui veut lui mettre sur le dos des actions punies par leurs lois ? Secret revient dans son monde comme qui dirait de force et va devoir enquêter, sauf que cela va s'avérer bien plus difficile que prévu. Personne ne veut l'aider, Sig l'un des plus puissants parle par énigmes et son employeur semble en savoir beaucoup plus qu'il ne le dis, mais préfère se taire, enfin il l'envoi sur une piste particulière. Une véritable promenade de santé avec en prime le roi des loups qui n'hésite pas à lui expliquer que sa façon de faire s'apparente à une traitrise sans oublier que son âme est toujours sur deux loups. Une vraie partie de plaisir !
Une enquête qui nous fait rager de nombreuses pages, personne en veut dire à Secret pourquoi Holden n'a pas évolué, pourquoi il doit mourir. Des liens formés ne peuvent se détruire, mais des pions peuvent être mis en avant pour être détruit par la reine ou le roi du jeu. S'amuser aux dépends des autres n'est pas le cas de Secret qui tente malgré tout de concilier sa vie "amoureuse" et son enquête. Les capacités de Holden a un instant précis font pencher la balance du côté que je pensais : il aurait une petite faiblesse envers elle ? Comme si sa naissance était de sa faute. Les recherches amènent des miettes, des pertes et fracas et beaucoup de sang. Rien de mieux pour des vampires qui ont souvent soif. Un jeu mortel est en marche et Secret doit tout faire pour prouver l'innocence de Holden sans savoir qui, où, comment pourquoi et bien d'autres questions qui se posent. Les ennemis sont nombreux, les amis peu fiables, la jeune femme de 22 ans va devoir déblayer devant sa porte pour y voir plus clair et s'approcher le plus près possible du véritable tueur. Dans le même temps, son "expérience" avec Lucas ne va pas au mieux, tous deux des caractères forts ils seraient capables de s'entretuer. Si elle est sa reine et de plus devenue autre chose par la même occasion, elle ne peut renier son attachement à son second qui lui a ses faveurs. Le cœur et l'âme sont deux choses différentes et nous ressentons bien qu'elle ne veut pas jouer dans le lit des deux, mais juste d'un seul. Les quelques conversations avec la petite sœur de Lucas ne restent pas dans l'oubli, elles sont juste mise de côté pour plus tard, ces renseignements vont avoir une grande importance pour plus tard, je le sens.
Les personnages montrent des compétences et des méthodes de travail peu orthodoxes. Chacun a une facette sombre, préférant ne pas dévoiler tout son jeu en une carte. Je pense à Noriko, un personnage intéressant, faisant partie d'un groupe qui n'hésite pas à tenter de détruire les vampires les uns après les autres. Noriko est une jeune femme qui a un grand rôle, on le sent du départ, avec son regard de tueuse et le fait qu'elle n'apprécie pas Secret, comme la plupart des humains et autres créatures. Il faut dire que notre héroïne en a fait baver à pas mal de monde, alors la célébrité dans le bon sens du terme, très peu pour elle. J'ai apprécié le fait que Nolan devienne une sorte de protégé, il a envie de bien faire et sa façon de vouloir tuer à la Buffy est tout simplement risible, mais il a bon fond. Un petit quelque chose intrigue certains d'entre eux, c'est surement pour cela qu'il est souvent entre les griffes de certaines créatures. Et Sig eh bien il reste le bon vieux Sig qui a su émouvoir avec la première scène où on le voit, sur ce lit, pensant à son passé, ce qui est bien la seule d'ailleurs qui donne une émotion si douce. Le final est grandiose avec du sang, des têtes qui roulent, des fantômes étranges et un monstre de toutes pièces. Secret n'a pas fini d'avoir des surprises et son "moi" final étonne également le lecteur qui n'aurait jamais cru ça ! Les scènes de combats et de mise à mort ne sont absolument pas subtiles, cela gicle dans tous les sens et n'importe quel humain qui aurait combattu serait déjà six pieds sous terre, J'ADORE !
En conclusion, un second tome plus centré sur l'enquête, avec le cœur de Secret qui est mis en jeu aussi bien physiquement que humainement. Holden est un personnage qui a beaucoup de qualité et cela est mis en avant, tout comme les liens que Secret peut avoir avec les autres protagonistes. Maintenant que je sais ce qu'elle va avoir comme fonction supplémentaire, je ne vais pas attendre trois ans pour lire la suite, qui est déjà dans ma bibliothèque !

Secret est partie de la ville à la fin du tome 1, ayant besoin de vacances, sans prévenir qui que se soit. Autant dire qu'elle s'est enfuie pour y voir plus clair. Un mois, deux mois, trois passent et elle n'est toujours pas revenue, préférant rester chez sa grand-mère plus ou moins cachée afin de ne pas être obligé d'effectuer le dernier contrat en date : tuer son gardien. Un contrat ordonné par le grand conseil et lorsqu'il est lancé plus rien ne peut l'arrêter. Holden est devenue une proie, mais absolument pas de choix ! Secret l'apprécie beaucoup, même si elle l'a fait tourner en bourrique plus d'une fois depuis qu'ils se connaissent et cela fait déjà 6 ans. Alors quand les trois plus puissants vampires décident qu'il doit mourir sans donner d'explications, c'est forcément Secret qui doit s'y coller : l'innocenter et accessoirement trouver le coupable. Qui veut lui mettre sur le dos des actions punies par leurs lois ? Secret revient dans son monde comme qui dirait de force et va devoir enquêter, sauf que cela va s'avérer bien plus difficile que prévu. Personne ne veut l'aider, Sig l'un des plus puissants parle par énigmes et son employeur semble en savoir beaucoup plus qu'il ne le dis, mais préfère se taire, enfin il l'envoi sur une piste particulière. Une véritable promenade de santé avec en prime le roi des loups qui n'hésite pas à lui expliquer que sa façon de faire s'apparente à une traitrise sans oublier que son âme est toujours sur deux loups. Une vraie partie de plaisir !

Maybe slight spoilers regarding the love triangle in the book...you have been warned.
I'm annoyed.
I really enjoyed the first book and was VERY aware that I was heading into a love triangle. I typically don't like them, especially when they result from one party cheating, but when it's open and choices haven't been made yet, I can cope and the author was very open about what you were about to get into before reading the book in the synopsis, so that was cool and I went in prepared.
With that being said, I really don't see a love triangle happening. Secret is a snotty bitch, who seems to have made her choice, but is just whore enough to keep finding other people's tongues in her mouth and then gets self righteous and indignant about it (*eye roll*). I just don't understand why the author chose the path she did with the two main love interests in book one. Only one was ever clearly given a chance and it makes me hate Secret a little bit more, each time she is a heinous bitch to Lucas. I don't normally go for the billionaire/play boy type, I'm definitely a Team Ranger Girl (Janet Evanovich - Plum Series), so I like the military, cool façade, bad ass man, but not in this case. Desmond, who to me started as a cool, bad ass in first book of the series, has very quickly and quiet tragically turned into a total pansy in my eyes. I find myself rooting for Lucas, but then, I don't think Secret deserves him at the same time, so I root for him to move on and find someone better than her AND THAT'S JUST WRONG! I should totally love the main MC right?? I shouldn't hope for her death and wish the series would pick up with ANYONE's, I don't care who's, but ANYONE's, even if it's Evil Cottonball's, perspective, as opposed to Secret's.
I still finished the book and I will read number three, but if it is more of stringing along Lucas, humping with Pansy-ass Desmond and her tongue tripping into everyone's mouth, then that will be the last one for me and on to a new series I go. Here's hoping for the best!

I read the first book of this series and thought "wow, this is pretty lame" secret talks big all the time but when she gets in big or LITTLE fights its like she barly makes it through and only after a dramatics of almost dying and whining. But i like the concept and thought the next book would be better, hell anything would be better since the first book was full of trash. the chick who is weak as hell, bitches all the time about everything. Expecially her genes. you would think she would learn about her vamp/were side (which should make her strong in ways vamps are weak and strong where weres are weak instead she ends up a faliure at it all and is reduced to barly a vamp and barly a were, instead of being strong she is weaker then the weakest one of the vamps and weres). does she? no she whines and bitches like a spoilded brat. And something strikes me odd. if the sun comes up and her vamp side is asleep and her were side is awake shouldnt she be able to be in the sun with out the dramatics. the whole book was trash so no matter what the second book had to be better..... it was the SAME!! It's like the author had a templete for her books and just inserted names and scenes into it. I hope no one waste their time on this series like i did. This series could have been great, but the author ruined it, i hope a good author picks up the idea and concept of this series and turns it into something great. And this Author should just give other authors ideas and leave the writting to professionals

Malgré le fait que j'apprécie toujours l'univers, l'intrigue de ce tome a été une petite déception.
Après les événements du tome précédent Secret a prit un peu de distance. En gros elle a fuit.
Mais la voila de retour contrainte et forcée car une grosse tache l'attend : elle doit prouver l’innocence de Holden !
Mais la tâche serait plus simple si elle savait de quoi il est accusé, et si ses relations avec les personnes impliquées dans son entourage étaient moins compliquées ...
En fait le problème pour moi dans ce tome a été que toute la première moitié du livre n'était que la mise en place de la situation. Un fois que Secret est revenu, elle passe un temps fou rien que pour revoir tout le monde, essayer de régler un peu ses comptes et reprendre sa vie en main.
Résultat il faut dépasser le milieu pour arriver enfin a des passages ou les choses bougent et ou on a l'impression d'avancer.
Du coup déjà que le tome est court pour de l'urban fantasy (juste un peu plus de 200 pages), on a très peu à se mettre sous la dent au final. Ça m'a semblé bâclé et j'ai eu l'impression de ne pas en avoir eu assez pour mon argent.
Ceci dit, ce n'était pas non plus une mauvaise lecture. J'apprécie toujours autant l'univers et les personnages. Mais il faudra que ça bouge un peu plus dans les tomes suivant sinon je risque de me lasser.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, as well as the prequel novella, so I was looking forward to getting stuck into this one.
After the Tribunal gave Secret her latest assignment, she took off. How can she kill Holden without knowing what he's accused of? So, she's gone to spend a bit of time with her grandmother. But when she's forcibly taken back to New York, Secret has no choice but to face everyone and everything she ran away from.
Now, she's determined to clear Holden's name. Which includes finding out why the Tribunal wants him dead. But this will lead her to an unexpected discovery, as well as some truly horrible creatures hiding out in an abandoned amusement park.
Oh, and let's not forget her very complicated love life--she's got two werewolf boyfriends, and a pesky vampire that seems to be consuming her fantasies lately.
This was another very exciting, action-packed installment and I can't wait to read more... especially after the unexpected ending. Lucky for me, I have the next novella already waiting for me on my Kindle! ;)

I read each of the first 4 of this under-the-radar e-book series in a day or two over a short period of time. It's really entertaining - high on action, and with great characters. The main character is a 20-something half werewolf/half vampire in NYC who started off as a rogue vampire hunter in book one and moves up in the supernatural world quickly. I loved the snarky humor and Secret's very complicated love life. (Holden and Desmond are to die for awesome, and I really like Sig, too.) If you are into vampires, werewolves, and urban fantasy action (with some steamy scenes in every book), you will enjoy this series. FYI, each book ends on a cliffhanger. Buy the kindle bundles - they are worth it.

On reprend l'histoire peu de temps après la fin du tome 1. Secret a choisi de fuir chez sa grand-mère pour ne pas à avoir faire face aux autres, et surtout pour ne pas à devoir tuer Holden. Malheureusement pour elle, les autres ne comptent pas la laisser loin trop loin et partent la récupérer. Elle doit alors faire face et tenter d'innocenter Holden tout en essayant de régler tous ses soucis.
Si j'avais adoré le premier tome (malgré le triangle amoureux), j'avoue que j'avais un peu peur de la suite : et si la recette ne marchait plus, n'ayant plus la nouveauté. Et bien, j'ai eu tort de m'inquiéter car j'ai été de nouveau happée par l'histoire et j'ai été incapable de le lâcher avant d'avoir le dénouement final.
De nombreuses choses se passent dans ce tome, et contrairement au précédent, le côté vampirique a une plus grande importance que celui garou. L'enquête est entraînante et j'ai aimé essayer de deviner le coupable (je me suis plantée, ce qui est assez rare). Voir l'envers du décor, avec toutes les notions de jalousie et de pouvoir entre les vampires, était intéressant.
On continue de s'attacher aux différents protagonistes et ma préférence pour Desmond se concrétise. Secret est une femme bien entourée, et il va lui falloir faire un choix un jour : loups garous ou vampires, Desmond ou Lucas ? Je ne voudrais pas être à sa place.
Un gros coup de cœur pour ce nouveau tome, j'accroche vraiment beaucoup à cette série d'Urban Fantasy. Le style est toujours aussi percutant et addictif, avec pas mal d'humour. Encore une fois une réussite qui devrait ravir les fans du genre. À quand la suite ? :)

The back story... The H ran away after getting assigned to kill Holden. Eventually she is brought back to complete the contract.
The Romance... No real relationship as she just won't allow it. Just sex for her.
The drama explosion... The H, again, makes a TSTL decision and nearly dies... AGAIN!

Final Notes... She should be getting wiser and using her resources before going into bad situations. She also freezes up a lot which allows her to get attacked, injured or captured. It really hurts her Badass persona.

Secrets continue to cause a problem in this series. There are few if any explanations offered for the many strange things that happen.
Why is Secret McQueen soul mated to two men (even by the minimal detail given this is unusual in the werewolf world). Why is Lucas seemingly promoting Desmond's cause above his own? Why is Secret so combative around Lucas? What is Sig's reason for supporting Secret? Why is Holden Chancery in her dreams/sex life? And why is Secret, who professes to be a one man woman seemingly attracted to a good chunk of the men/vampires/werewolves who happens to cross her path?
It's odd, there is a lot of talk but very little of it uncovers even a smidgin of what this reader would like to know. I fully understand that authors dole out as much or as little information as they feel is necessary but 'A Bloody Good Secret' hardly advances the details from book one in the series.
Again the book ends on a cliffhanger of sorts - it's an unsatisfactory ending which feels more like a pitstop in a continuing story.
It's not working for me - I may return to the series in the future but it won't be soon.

This was frustrating 😮💨. The series seemed to start off pretty strong, so I had my hopes up. In this book, it felt like the story elements were put on tumble dry and we all just kinda went with it. Secret was much less badass and much more bad and ass.
There was so much potential in the ground work being laid, but I kept feeling like it was being trampled over. For example, having a close friend/team/whoever that is outside of the love interests would be a perfect way to keep the reader invested. So far, I don't really care about any of the characters. I was hoping that one of the many side characters would fulfill this role of a close confidant. Yet, it seemed like the pages that could have been spent investing the reader into this/these character(s) were spread out over one or two interactions with all the side characters.
