ROAD SNACKS Yuna is hired on to escort Noa, Lord Fochrosé’s daughter—and biggest fan of the “Bloody Bear”—to the royal capital, with Fina in tow. Hordes of monsters and bands of roving thieves menace the girls on their journey, but what really gets Yuna’s attention is when they discover two of her most beloved foodstuffs from Earth! What will the Bloody Bear do with these nostalgic culinary delights?
And so Yuna and Fina head the capital. Adventures happen. They head home. The series does, I think get better as it goes on.
There are more, bigger differences between the book and the anime this time. Several of them result in the anime being softer, more appropriate for younger audiences. We get to read far more detail regarding Yuna's defeat of the monster army, for example, which is messy and bloody. The version in the anime spares us the details, but it's also inherently funnier. That's neither good nor bad. However, the anime makes it seem a lot faster and easier than the book version, which I think is more reasonable. Yuna's (overpowered) power progression seems more realistic (for a given value of realistic) in the book compared to the anime.
Also, we learn that the kingdom has the death penalty, and applies it. Which is to be expected, really, but that's left out of the anime. And thugs issue stereotypical threats to sell young girls into slavery.
There is one scene involving the king and the head of the adventurers' guild turning up at just the right time which kind of kills suspension of disbelief with a halbard. The coincidences involved are bad enough, but the king apparently makes a habit of wandering around without any guards when he feels like it. That just isn't happening.
Aside from that, it's an enjoyable read. I'm debating whether to go straight on to book 4 or take a break and keep it fresh. Guess we'll see.
A solid step up from Volume 2, there's more of a clear overarching plot to the entire volume and I think the author's skill at plotting is improving as well. Several new characters enter the picture here as Yuna explores the capitol and a lot of them are fun but some of them are underdeveloped and there can be moments of "wait, who was this again?" There's a lot of cute and memorable plotlines, I loved Yuna growing her culinary influence, the plots about stopping bandits and monsters on the path to the capitol. Even the flashback/alternate perspective chapters have gotten better at revealing new information and they don't feel like they're coming immediately after the chapter they recap anymore. Fun stuff!
If you like this series, I definitely recommend the anime and manga! They’re very fun. I do like how there’s a fair amount to content in these early books that are not in those versions - it makes reading these books more fun even though I know what’s coming plot-wise since I’ve seen the anime.
I also really appreciate that this is such a long series! Lots of content to enjoy :)
I legit did not realise Noa was a nickname for Noir until now. Same with Misa - I didn’t realise it was short for Misana. Very cute :)
It feels like it has been forever since I've read this book series. I was in a bit of a reading slump so I decided to continue on with this series. I originally had read the first two books as audiobooks, so moving to ebook was a lot of fun because there was things that you don't get in audiobook form. Mainly the artwork that is dotted throughout the book. Because time has passed since I've read this series, I really appreciated this book even more and I think it has made this book series one of my favourite book series of all time. I highly recommend this book series if you like video games/dnd. It's so cozy and short that you'll finish the books in no time.
More of the same fluff with no overarching plot. It would seem, the chapter that introduced the evil wizard would have made for a better prologue. Then the book could lead up to the major battle rather than it just feel like a random development. And, the author should do a little research on foodstuffs. Potatoes and cheese would not be novel in a quasi-medieval equivalent to our world—pizza, however, totally would be.
This volume had more action in it. Yuna casually fights hoards of monsters while on an escort mission to her local aristocrats, incidentally also saving and impressing a lot of other people as a byproduct. But more importantly, our heroine has discovered some very interesting food ingredients in the capital. Next thing you know, she's building a house in the capital and talking to royalty. Will Yuna decide to move to the Capital?
This is a cute fluffy series. I do like how Yuna easily makes friends in this world and is able to help people quite easily. There is a lot that comes to her just way to easily, like defeating the 10000 monster so quickly. Also, the magician who planned the whole thing just came out of nowhere and could have used more characterzation. I have been finding one or two grammatical errors in each book as well.
The crazy yet fun adventures of Yuna continue as she escorts her latest young friend Noir to the Capital. As is usual, wherever Yuna goes, trouble follows. And as usual, her bear powered abilities get her out of it. Yuna meets more fun characters and more dastardly villains (and slays more monsters, too). A great addition to a fantastic series.
never doing another volume this was such a slog oh my goodness. please please it was so awful I made the bad judgement to read this volume because it was sitting on my kindle why did I sunk cost myself into doing this.
Yuna goes to the capital! More growing friendships with new characters and further cementing of friendships with Fina. Still didn't love the alternate PoV chapters but ,luckily there were even less in t his installment.
I am enjoying the series, but I do wish things were more fleshed out. There are little to no descriptions about places or people and very little world building.
Yuna also just gets more and more OP, but it’s still an enjoyable read overall and full of fluff for those who like that type of thing.
Getting better and bear-er! The capital was a nice setting for this volume, with the biggest battle so far, and lots and lots of pudding sales... overall the writing is getting better and the whole story is consistent without getting repetitive so far, so let's continue!
This is my second time through Vol. 3. This time with the excellent audiobook, narrated by Marissa Lenti and published through Seven Seas Siren. We have shelved the light novel series through our local rural library and I want to see if we can get the new audiobooks into circulation. It looks like Seven Seas Siren is publishing an audiobook of K3 Bear once a month. I am looking forward to these productions of the audiobook version of the Light Novel.
This was cute, and added a lot more to the capital arc than the anime did. That was nice, the writing is much the same as the previous volumes, very juvenile.
The novel is slightly shallow on character development and emotional development. Also the writer is probably female so it is also not too particular into skills and character growth as other similar novels. Never the less i think it is OK as the story is more about life and events more than OPnes. The plot feels a bit lacking as major and minor events are given the same amount of attention and there is very little tension build up. Still its 4 stars because its a happy read with mix of cute humor and positive aftertaste.
