This was one of the more interesting murder/mystery novels I have read recently. The plot revolves around police Detective Nick Marconi who is suffering from severe depression and unresolved grief issues so his superiors send him to see a psychiatrist – Gracie Simmons.

Gracie has her own unresolved issues but she is determined to help others. They fall in love but this is a problem in itself because of the patient/practitioner dynamic. Nick also has a series of murders to solve, women who he has previously dated are being murdered in a most gruesome manner and he has to work out who is trying to wreak revenge on him before any more women die.

Gracie’s present difficulties mean he is simultaneously trying to keep her safe, her ex-boyfriend is harassing her, one of the murder victims is her best friend and she feels personally responsible for the mental health of all her patients.

The characters are wonderful, they feel like old friends and seasoned characters even though this was the first time I had met them. The two intertwining plots are woven together masterfully.

I really liked the pieces of dialogue at the beginning of some chapters which were transcripts of conversations between Gracie and one of her patients, this was a clever way of introducing another characters point of view.

I rate this book 5/5 – I loved it.

I really liked this creepy romantic suspense. Lots of exciting scenes and a nice complex plot with a few twists and turns that surprised me. A bit of coincidence required some suspension of disbelief, but the story and characters made this pretty easy for me. Best part though was the hero Nick Marconi, a super tortured hero, but one who can undergo a lot of emotional agony and still continue to be an effective cop. The heroine, Gracie was a bit tortured herself and the way her story intertwined with Nick's worked very well. Plus they were a couple who really complemented each other and it was easy to see what each saw in the other. She had a bit of a TSTL moment, but there was a very good reason for it and it helped build to a great climax, so I forgive her. The characters in this books, book good and bad, really came alive - there was not any false note in how they came across.

I have been reading this author for awhile now, and after every book I think to myself that this was her best yet. Until I read the next one. Blood Rite was no exception. It had so much suspense and emotion in it that I couldn't put it down until the last page. Can't wait for the next romantic suspense from this author. I'm sure it will be "her best yet!!!"
