A re-imagining of the classic fairy tale The Frog Princess.

Henrietta cherished her uncomplicated life - until the day she discovered an ogre living in the forest.

Lady Henrietta Pemberly could think of nothing more depressing than being wooed for her inheritance.
In fact, if a dragon-slaying knight in shining armour wasn’t to be then she was quite content to skip merrily towards spinsterhood. Unfortunately, her interfering sister Prudence had other plans and before Henrietta could say ‘what bloody tournament?’ she is being paraded before a bevy of armour clad knights as the tourney prize.

When the handsome and charming Sir Hardwick wins the right to court her Henrietta should be delighted. After all, other than the lack of dragon-slaying skills, he is everything her girlish dreams had ever conjured. So why then, when faced with the prospect of marriage to her captivating suitor does she instead seek the company of the surly ogre?

Enchanting Tales is a series of fairy tale re-tellings with a Regency setting. The stories are all set in the same world but each book can be read as a stand-alone. The love line was really sweet, particularly if you love the theme of making a deeper connection and loving someone for who they are inside, but I did find myself unengaged with basically all the scenes where the H and h weren’t together(her family, the other suitor), and skimmed over those.

Oh, and a setting note: I just realized it says these are supposed to be Regency and it did feel like that at first, but then it went Medieval with a tournament and also it’s fantasy b/c of the curse and other kingdom, so a bit confusing. Obviously if you’re a setting purist, this will bug you.

I liked this story just fine and it was a pretty quick read. However, the world of this retelling confused me. It seemed like regency England at times then it threw in Medieval elements but there was also talk of an unknown kingdom. Prudence was younger than Henrietta and was married but then she was upset that their two younger sisters were “out” before Henrietta married which was also confusing. The tale itself says it is a retelling if the Frog Prince but it felt more like Beauty and the Beast. Contains: kisses, a minor swearing (like twice)

Shrek meets Pride and Prejudice

Really- from the names to the story it’s like they took those two stories and smashed them together. The end was more beauty and the beast. Easy read but not my cup of tea.

This was my first read by Felicity Harper.
The story was okay.
Hen (short for Henrietta) was the oldest of her sisters and the only one not interested in marriage. So, conniving second sister Pru (short for Prudence), decides to have a tourney for our lovely Hen.
Enter Lord Hardwick. Something was off with this guy from the beginning.
We also have an ogre who seems besotted with Hen, unbeknownst to her.
With the help of the ogre, Lord Hardwick presents Hen with gifts made from wood in order to win her hand. But still, not all is as it seems.
The ogre is not originally an ogre but a prince that was cursed by a gypsy queen, Mala.
So, now, we see where this is going. Hen and the prince are destined! And they are.
There's some profanity in this one, along with some witty dialog. Then a kidnapping and a daring rescue. Thankfully a curse is broken before villagers can grab pitchforks! And a HEA!
Not sure I'll continue the series.

A fun read

This was a fun read. I enjoyed the twist it pulled with the classic fairytale, even if the ending felt rushed. The meat of the story held my attention and had me smiling. Definitely worth a read.
A star taken off for grammatical errors, but even those weren't too distracting.

If you're a Jane Austen fan, you would probably enjoy this retelling. It fell a little short for me, the "love " aspect felt rushed and honestly one sided in the sense that the ogre knew way more about Henrietta ; which could be because he watched her in the woods which was a problem for me as well.

A fun light-hearted tale that echoes a bit of Pride and Prejudice as well as a general fairy tale vibe. This was supposed to be a retelling of the Frog Princess but I am not familiar with that story.

It did remind me of P&P with the family being named Pemberly and the two silly, flirty youngest sisters. The determined older sister to only marry for love. The doting father who prefers to just concede everything and avoid conflict. And of course everyone MUST marry and we can't have the younger children out before the older are married. Then there's Henrietta's crush on the charming man who isn't all he seems. Etc.

I found it strange that Prudence was so in a rage to get Henrietta married because the younger sister's were "out" and it just wasn't proper when SHE is also younger than Hettie and uh, married. So clearly she was let out and allowed to marry before her oldest sister and not once does anyone mention the duplicity in her behavior.

Also, Prue just needed to learn to mind her own darn business. She was SO interfering and Hettie didn't once really stand up for herself.

I liked that Hettie and Ogre got to spend time together and learn about each other. It helped their romance seem realistic. The story was quick, and light, but a lot of fun to read and I'll probably read the next book in the series.

I'm also so glad that Hettie is leaving that house because her family has issues . . . and maybe she'll be able to find her voice without them around.

A couple minor errors. The Aunt Envelope though just killed me. Auto correct. It'll get you. xD I called poor Penelope by that name the rest of the book.
