I'm not sure how to rate this one. I really enjoy reading about the French revolution and learning more about it, but this book was a bit difficult to read at times. Not because of the prose or it being filled with facts, it wasn't. No, it was difficult to read due to the authors personal beliefs being painfully clear throughout the entire book. It became obvious that the author has a clear disdain for the aristocracy and "upper-class". So obvious that the author is almost gleeful regarding the violence, but only when it was aimed towards the aristocracy. At times you get the impression that the author is trying to justify the violence against the upper classes. Frankly, that disgusted me. You can not claim to be a good person, to be better than "them", when you are fine with a certain group of people being made the victims of various violent acts. That makes you just as bad as the ones you claim to be the "bad guys". Therefore I will not give this book a rating.

Svår att rata. Den var intressant att läsa, och fick mig att tänka mycket på att historieskrivning. Att det är så lätt att prata om processer och händelseförlopp utan att tänka på de individerna som står bakom och deras roll i kraft av de personligheter. Att allt handlar om människor helt enkelt. Samtidigt har jag svårt för några av författarens framställningar. Känns ibland som han vill rättfärdiga och förhärliga våld. Undrar om det är att är att jag är liberalt indoktrinerad eller om det är han som är svart-vit. Bra bok, måste tänka lite på detta bidrag!
