It's not often an adventurer can actually write well in addition to achieving great things, but this book is definitely an exception. Too many adventurers cannot write for toffee despite their great exploits, and should indeed stick to the day job. Ash writes just like he talks: full of enthusiasm and excitement, getting to the point and keeping the suspense going, but without skimping on the toughness of the challenges and admitting where he was wrong. His writing gives you a sense of the real person behind the grit, muscles and cheeky grin. It's far from a "Look at how amazing I am!" kind of book, unlike so many of this ilk, but leaves you in no doubt as to the hardships of his endeavours, nevertheless. For someone so young with no background in writing, I find this book quite an achievement.
