Twelve years since Nina White’s family was ripped apart. Twelve years since she’s seen her siblings. Twelve years she’s had to fight for everything, including her own life and her freedom. Tex has known Nina since she was a smart-mouthed, tough teen working with him at Miguel’s Gym. Tex knows nothing of Nina’s past, and he’s never had to fight for anything, until he decides he wants Nina, scars and all. Nina has had it bad for Tex, not that she’d ever tell him. His sweet smile and a heart the size of Texas are way too good for her. If he ever learned about the ugliness of her past, he’d go back to his perfect family and his perfect home and his perfect life. What sane man wouldn’t? Tex insists that she try to find her family. Tex insists that she lower the walls surrounding her heart. Tex insists that she love him back. One kiss sends her world spinning out of control. The past has a way of catching up with you, and the future she never dreamed of is within her grasp. Will it be fleeting? Or can she make it hers? ***New Adult novel intended for audiences over the age of 18 due to adult language and sexual content***

When I first started hearing about this book I thought "What a weird title" but then once I started reading it I found out it was because Nina was tough as nails and her friend/ coworker Tex was from Texas and had a ton of Southern sayings. Now 2 years later and things have changed - especially their feelings for each other.
This is the 5th book in the Baxter Boys - Rattled series and while it can be read totally stand-alone, you would get so much more enjoyment if you have read the previous books (at least Book 4 which deals with Nina's brother searching to find her).
Tex and Nina's backgrounds couldn't be any more different. He's from a large loving family in Texas and she's been in foster care for 12 years with no contact to any of her other siblings. The treatment she's received in foster care have caused her to grow a shell around her heart to protect herself from feeling abandoned or even letting anyone love her. Little by little Tex is able to crack that shell and burrow into her heart. With his help, she is able to reconnect to her brothers and allow herself to be loved.
Jane Charles does her best when working with characters that have issues and wounds that need healing. I think this might be the best book in the series so far. I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Nina White has been fostered for the past twelve years, she’s eighteen on New Year’s Day & she’s turfed out of her foster home after breakfast with nowhere to go. Luckily she’s worked at a diner & the staff there look after her, she’s also worked at Miguel’s Gym & no way is Miguel going to see Nina living on the streets, There’s an empty room in the apartment attached to the gym & it’s got Nina’s name on it.
Tennyson Leroy Lippincott or Tex has known Nina since she was a smart-mouthed, tough teen working with him at Miguel’s Gym.
Nina is attacked by two guys & injures her head. Tex decides he has to tell her how he feels.
One kiss sends her world spinning out of control.
This series is just SO good. Nina is Dylan’s long lost sister who he’s been searching for, Nina believes her two brothers don’t want her. I felt for Nina a horrid foster mother who stole her savings, a caseworker who hid the truth, she so deserved a break. You are taken on a gamut of emotions throughout the book. The characters are well portrayed 7 the pace of the book keeps you reading, I burned the midnight oil to finish it. Whilst this could well be a standalone book I’d recommend reading the whole series – you won’t be disappointed.

(The Baxter Boys) 5. All Horns and Rattles

To find a sibling after sooo many years was a relief for the brothers and anyone else involved in this special group.

Nina White is the sister of Dylan White, whom we met in a previous Baxter Boys book. He had been searching for her for years after the foster system tore his family apart. Now we get Nina's story and find out how she spent those years and what she felt when there was no contact with her family for years.

Nina has become a tough cookie, but with help from friends and the owner of a neighborhood gym, she's become a star soccer and rugby player. She's got plans to go to college, if only the system and dumb luck would quit working against her.

Tex has always been a good friend to her as they work together in the gym, but lately Nina's seeing him as more than a friend. Tex is sure that if he shows any interest in Nina, the gym owner, Miguel, will try to put a stop to it. He's pretty old-fashioned and he treats Nina like his daughter. But boy would Tex like to reveal his feelings for Nina!

Finding Nina's family, dealing with trauma from the past, and exploring this new relationship provide plenty of emotions for all the characters.

I like that this series deals with real-life issues. The first-person narration make you feel like you are getting extra insight into what Nina and Tex are going through. It's also great to see the gang from previous Rattled books show up.
