Higherhawk has written a poetry book divided into three sections. Love, Grief and Life. Each part reveals a depth to his poems and emotions. There are mostly short poems full of longing and love. Each poem has a title so it is easy to refer back to the poems. The narrator or poet reveals a deep connection with a woman who has touched his soul with her love. The illustrations by Lee Zimmerman are a wonderful accompaniment to this lovely poetry book. Some poems have illustrations to reflect the words, such as, "Strike Gently: Pen and Ink."
Higherhawk writes romantically and reflects on nature often. He writes about desire and loving a woman as if it were an art. Love is comforting in this book; to be loved and to be loved in return, like the greatest love story, two lovers in a tunnel of love in the middle of the forest or in each other's arms. The forest is a constant theme within the book, running, walking or being alone among the trees. Equally, the sun and sunlight are also prominent in Higherhawk's poems. The second part of the book is Grief, and this section depicts the loss of a loved one in extraordinary detail and the heartbreak one carries around.
A beautiful debut poetry book.

Emotionally Evocative 5-Star Must Read!
Every poem within this book resonates raw emotion and as a reader I was profoundly affected. The author takes us on a journey through Love, Grief, and Life and does so with such beautiful verse. Interspersed between the poetry are pen and ink drawings that only enhance the overall presentation. This is a must read and I plan to read it again!

Overall I enjoyed it! I had no idea what to expect, as I don't with most poetry books I read.
Poetry is probably the most subjective of all the written word. It either touches you on some level, or it doesn't. There seems to be little in-between.
First the layout. There was an actual index, which is amazing! Not all poetry books have one. No idea why. Second, all the poems had a title! Again, amazing! And there were also actual page numbers! So, high marks for the publisher/poet for having all three of those things! It makes it a lot easier on the reader, to both find specific poems and/or refer others to specific poems. I will also say, the layout itself, the font and size, the little graphic/s above and in-between some of the poems were nice as well.
Of course the artwork was beautiful too. I thought it was an ingenious idea to add a visual artist to the book because it added another layer, which also would bring/peak a different market to the book.
There were 103 poems, broken down into three separate sections. Out of 103 poems, I liked 21. Of those 21, two were my favorites, "Doorway" and "Your Ink". Some beautiful poems. He's quite good at painting the picture for the reader, visually. There were a few erotic poems in there, well written too, which was a surprising find.
I borrowed the book via unlimited kindle (another ingenious decision), so there's no hard copy. Having the book offered via unlimited kindle is great, especially if you're not sure if you're going to like the book or not. If you do like it and have the option, you can always buy it in print.

A book of more than poetry!

This book is filled with so much more than just poetry, words written. The drawings that are entwined within the words are amazing. Complimenting words written. This book is filled with warmth, happiness, sadness, love and loss, filled with life, every page a new emotion. So real, feeling this author's soul for life. Congratulations! Definitely a book that you'll want to read!

Heartfelt and Received

I liked the poems, I connected with every word of some, and not at all with others, but I enjoyed them all. They touched my heart and mind. Now I want to share them.
