Looking Back: A Century of Life in Bethnal Green

Rate this book
Looking Back is a journey through 100 years of East London history, in particular, Bethnal Green and includes memories from many locals who lived through some of these decades including the author's own family. There is a special chapter about the Bethnal Green tube disaster of March 1943 providing newly released evidence of what actually happened and why. The book gives a fuller picture of the area than do most. As a 'read', the flow of many individual stories weaves imperceptibly into the wider national history to produce a rare account of times past - with a lesson for the future.

Joyce Hampton, historical author. Books with a difference as although factual and referenced they are written with the subject audience in mind - so factual novels rather than just the bones of an academic book.

Her husband John has been a great influence to her, both in the research and editorial sphere of creating her books.

History has always been her passion and she enjoys the opportunity to pass on history in a way that is not only informative but fun to learn.

She is a popular speaker at various events too - from book signings to lectures.
