Adventure. Chaos. Love. Despair. Life can change in an instant. From a beautiful oblivion to utter destruction. I never saw it coming. I never believed this could happen. Reality brought us back down to the ground, ripping away a peace we never believed was possible. Our lives are far too complicated for us to live in a fairytale. Fairytales don't come true. Fairytales aren't real. Happiness is an elusive dream in our world. A thing we strive for but never quite reach. One phone call destroyed us. Broke us into a million shattered pieces. Both of us falling, falling until nothing is left. Somehow, someway, we'll make it through. Together we’re stronger than we ever could be on our own. This hideously, beautiful life won't tear us apart. It won’t break us down. We won’t let it. Because together this life is the adventure we always wanted but never dreamed of having. *This is NOT a standalone. Escaping the Edge should be read before reading Finding the Light.*

Finding The Light (Edge Book 2) is written by H.M. Sholander. This is the second and final book in the series. This story continues from the first book, Escaping The Edge. After reading Escaping The Edge, I could not wait to read this book. The story is about Avery and Ryan. Avery and Ryan have gone through so much, they have had so much pain in their lives. There is just so much sadness and heartbreak. Ryan saved Avery in the first book, now it is Avery's turn to save Ryan. Even with everything that is going on. Ryan and Avery have great chemistry. They are perfect together. I have been rooting for them. Like the first. The book is filled with so much emotions. It will feel like you're on an emotional roller coaster. I could not put this book down. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. Needing to know what was going to happened. By the end story. You will get all the answers, you have been wanting. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, so you will just have to read this book to find out what happens. H.M. Sholander did a great job on this book. The story is well written. This is just a great story. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed this series. Even though I needed a box of tissues for these two books. I recommend this book. I recommend this series. But Beware, you will need a box a tissues. Thank you, H.M. Sholander. Great work on this series. I'm looking forward to reading more from this Author. :)

Finding the Light by H.M. Sholander is the second and final book in the Edge Series. After reading Escaping the Edge, I could not wait to find out what happened to Ryan and Avery because their story was so real, gritty, sad and heartwarming all at the same time. I needed to know if they made it as a couple, I needed to know if Avery continued with her recovery, I yearned to know if Ryan's dad finally got the help he so desperately needed and that Ryan wanted him to get and finally I wanted to know what Avery's path in life would be if she didn't work at the insurance company. H.M. Sholander answered every one of the burning questions I had in regards to this couple's journey and then some!

I could not put this book down because it captivated me just as the first one had. However, the roles were quite reversed in this book, where in the first book Ryan saved Avery from herself and her addiction, in Finding the Light, Avery struggled to save Ryan from the sadness, guilt and grief he carried throughout a good majority of the story. It was great to see how far Avery had come in her recovery and that she was able to truly open herself up to the love that she had for Ryan and to foster that love in a healthy way but helping him just as he had helped her.

This series is a definite one-click, you will not be disappointed.

I was really excited to read this book. H.M. Sholander really impressed me with her debut novel Escaping the Edge so I couldn't wait to continue Avery and Ryan's story. However, this continuation fell very short for me.

The story felt so incredibly forced. The characters still felt like strangers, one improvement I was really hoping for in this book. But the one thing that bothered me more than the characters or the forced plot what the ineffective use of 2nd person. It got to the point in which I was forcing myself to finally finish the book. I felt the author was telling me how to feel with the overuse of 2nd person instead of writing the story so I can feel it. Instead, it kind of made me roll my eyes because the use of 2nd person took a lot away from the depth of the characters and made them seem immature.

Finding the Light by HM Sholander is book 2 in the series.

We are taken back into the world of Avery and Ryan. This book focuses on Ryan more than Avery but since the two are inseparable they are both throughout. We learn more about Ryan's upbringing and we meet new characters and some old ones. This isn't a quick read but we get the feelings of joy, sadness, anger, and everything in between. Ryan is thrust into a parenting role much sooner than he should be and we see the turmoil he keeps inside. Through it all we see how true love can help someone through anything. These two go through more than what any normal mid-twenty year olds should go through in life but such is the life of an addict. It tears not only the person apart but everybody around them as well. This book shows us that we can conquer even the worst situations with support and love. It is a hard road to travel but the reward is so great if we can reach the end. I wasn't really fond of this story when I started. However I stuck with it to see what would happen. Even though it is somewhat predictable it is still a good read. I recommend you go read it if you feel you need a reminder that life is hard but we can certainly triumph even the darkest of days with support and love.

I give this story 3 stars.

Finding the Light (Edge Book 2) by H.M. Sholander

Finding the Light by H.M. Sholander is the second book in the Edge series. It continues the story of Avery and Ryan. Avery is a recovering addict and Ryan is used to addiction due to his drunken father. Their roles in their relationship have changed. In Book 1 Ryan is supporting Avery whilst in this book Avery has to support Ryan. Their relationship is constantly evolving and there are some real heart tugging moments.
Avery has been coping really well with battling her addiction so she decides that they should have some adventures. They make a list of the places they want to travel to, she quits her job and sells the stuff out of her apartment. Whilst they are away Ryan’s brother James is looking after their father.
They start off in Las Vegas and Avery helps Ryan face his fears. After a few missed calls from James, Ryan returns the calls to find that his father is missing. They have to cut their trip short to return home to find him.
As Avery has sold all of her possessions she moves in with Ryan. You would think that this will be the happy ending that they deserve but they have so many challenges to overcome sometimes it feels that there is no way that they will settle down together.

This is not a stand-alone book. Read book 1 so that you can understand the characters of Ryan and Avery otherwise I think you’ll find it a bit confusing.

I give this book 4****

“Life. Purpose. Happiness. Friendship. Adventure. And we have it all, together.”
“This…him…. Everything is the way it is meant to be, and our adventure is only beginning. No, this isn’t the end…. not by a long shot. It’s the start of a life we never knew we could have. Love. Purpose. Happiness. Friendship. Adventure. And we have it all together.” ~Avery
First and foremost, read Escaping the Edge first! This book will be so much better if you read them in order I promise! Both are absolutely amazing books that will tear you to pieces so bring the Kleenex to your reading spot too!
With that said this book is told more from both Avery and Ryan’s points of view with the majority of the action surrounding Ryan this time and how addiction destroys him regardless that he is a sober and amazing man. Their love story continues and finds them ready to do something new, go somewhere new, and for them to discover what kind of life they want to lead together. Avery decides a road trip is just what they need. After throwing in 4 destinations in a hat they choose the first place and pack up. Avery is just 6 months into sobriety and Ryan is leaving his dad and being his father’s savior behind him. Neither will be an easy task to maintain but they persevere and head to Las Vegas. Ryan is hesitantly nervous about the way this will turn out. However, his desire to please Avery overrides that sinking feeling. “Right now I’m satisfied with driving down the highway with the sun high in the sky and the wind blowing through the car. Perfectly content with the girl sitting next to me on this journey. This new path in life. Because, as long as she’s next to me, I know everything’s going to be perfect…even if, in the pit of my stomach, Life seems seamless and beautiful when the everyday responsibilities of their lives are stripped away and it is just them. Of course not without struggle though. Especially when Avery realizes that Vegas is not just pretty lights and the home of the largest M&M store. “For the next four days, I’ll be surrounded by alcohol, my weakness. It will be there at every turn. Someone will offer me a free drink while we gamble. Bars line the inside of every hotel. Not to mention there are all those fliers handed out on the sidewalks, enticing you into a bar a few feet away from you. I began to get anxious, not knowing if this is something I can handle.” Both face their fears while in Vegas. It leads them to a deeper love for each other. “I know she thinks I’m the one who put her back together but really, she put me back together… into someone who can love. Someone who can achieve more than I ever dreamed possible.” They are ‘lost flawlessly together.’ Just when they end up getting to this place of contentment and ready for the next place on their trip, it is halted by an emergency situation with Ryan’s father. Ryan struggles to deal with the situation and ends up running. Giving up all hope for his father to get clean and sober so that they will be able to have a relationship. He sends his brother off to school again and they leave for Colorado next. They discover the Sand Dunes and then Avery gets to live her secret desire to play the drums. A new addiction that she can completely delve into safely. Then the world drops out from under Ryan and threatens to ruin not just him but his love for Avery. “I love her but I’m losing my connection with her. That’s what silence and separation do. They tear you apart from each other. So, not only do I fell lost, but I also feel disconnected from the love of my life, and I’m doing nothing to fix it. All I’m doing is pushing her away. Which is exactly what I do now.” Will he ever overcome this devastation before he loses her for good. Is she strong enough to keep them from falling apart? Avery is so determined it breaks my heart to read the struggle. I just want to reach through and help them. I felt so connected to this book, as much as the first one. I thought that was a tough read but this, this book will tear apart your very soul as you read it. In the end it is so satisfyingly worth every tear and every word. By far these two books are my most favorite 5 star reads that I have had the pleasure of reading in the last year or two.

Finding the Light picked up where Escaping the Edge ended with Avery 6 months into sobriety and Ryan still struggling to help his father. Both characters decided the best hope they had for each other was to breathe in the life they had and explore the possibilities.
Finding the Light was about Ryan and Avery starting their lives together and burying the guilt. Together they journeyed through life and explored new places. Avery was faced with many forms of temptations testing her resolve during her sobriety.
The author embraced hope even with all the obstacles life threw at them.

This story was about change. Both these characters were chained to alcoholic parents who depended on them. Both were locked into undesirable lives with no way out. Obligations and responsibilities bogged them down until they decided to live life before it was too late. They broke the chains of their alcoholic dependent parents and moved on.
Avery dealt with her pain by drowning herself in alcohol. Ryan dealt with his guilt by becoming distant and quiet. Both characters lost valuable childhood moments having spent their youth taking care of alcoholic parents.
The adventures they set out to explore became more than just traveling to new places it became about discovering themselves and finding the answers to life questions.

The author depicted Avery's struggle with addiction in the first book with realistic circumstances. This time around I felt the same sense of hope for both of them. The author has a great sense of dialogue that drew me in. I became addicted to the characters and the circumstances surrounding them.
This was about finding something new and escaping their reality. The intimacy between them was scorching. These characters had a deep connection which was felt by the words to illustrate that passion. The author wrote with familiarity to the scenes she described.
"the way to live forever is to impact someone so greatly, they never forget you. I believe the way you impact someone’s life can live on forever because they’ll pass the wisdom on to someone else and so on.” This author has so much wisdom to share I might as well highlight every word in each chapter. This was my favorite quote.

The parallels between the addiction, fears, and burdens of life were easy to identify with. At times I felt like the author was sharing my story. I shared so many variables with these characters it was eerie.

Writing a second book is difficult and even more challenging to create a story using the same main characters while creating smooth transitions. This author managed to create not one but two outstanding stories with the same two characters.
This story certainly put these characters lives into perspective. Ryan and Avery got the closure they needed and together they pushed forward. These two characters grew together conquering each other's fears with love and support.

Finding the Light: (Edge, Book 2) by H.M. Sholander is the second story in the Edge series. This is not a stand alone story as you should read Escaping the Edge, Book 1 as it is a continuation of Avery and Ryan's story. I for one was excited to read this story to find out what happened to them. The author has created characters that you will be able to relate to and connect too. You will love how they connect to each other and how they get through their struggles. They will take you on a journey of sadness, suspense and recovering from addiction. Find out how lives change in a matter of seconds!!

Avery and Ryan are no stranger to loss and addiction. They met at a meeting and they seem to have an instant connection. Life changes can be in an instant and what happens to these two they never see coming. They decided to just pick up and go on vacation, live in a fairytale but what will happen to them when reality hits and there are no such things as fairytale? One phone call will change things forever for them. Are they strong enough to come out together? They seem to be falling, falling down until they hit bottom. Will they make it together? Will they stay strong for each other?

Their relationship grows throughout this story, just when you thought things were okay for them, one phone call changes things. Life together is an adventure, will they be able to get what they dream of? One struggles against addiction and the other struggles with addiction. Will it break them? Life struggles are painful sometimes but it is how you deal with them that matters. How will these two deal with what they are facing, alone or together? Will they finally make a connection that will last a life time? This story has everything you could want in a story, love, adventure, chaos and despair. These characters will pull at your heartstrings and pull you into their world. They will have you at the first word. Will life let them be together or will life rip them apart?

This is my second story by H.M. Sholander and I know it will not be the last. H.M lives with her husband and two lazy cats. She loves to read, write and travel. She can't wait to see the world and she encourages everyone to follow their dreams, as they are the only thing that can make you happy. This author has created a page turner that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and waiting to see what is behind the next page the next second. This is a fast reading story that I was totally pulled into and read in one sitting. I highly suggest this story as I know you will want to see what happens with these two as much as I did.

Finding the Light is the beautiful second book in the Edge series by H.M. Sholander. I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the series before this one. After reading book 1 and totally falling in love with Avery and Ryan I couldn’t wait to start the second book and it lived up to everything I thought it would be! It was still beautifully written and I still found myself emotionally connected to the characters. The story took on a different turn this time as we see this couple trying to support each other again but through a different type of tragedy. I still had that feeling that I was reading a real life story and I was glad that this carried over from the first book into this one.
I loved that Avery continued to grow over this story – her temptations were still there but with Ryan’s help she continued to fight them. Together they started to live again, together they started a new adventure that is until tragedy struck and they had to fight not to break apart completely. There were so many times in this book where I found myself on the brink of tears again and again. I had really taken both Avery and Ryan into my heart and so desperately wanted them to be together. I felt so sorry for Ryan who continued to struggle with his dad’s drinking problem in this story. I found that I felt the same for him in this book as I did for Avery in the first book. He just deserved to find peace in his life and to find someone to love him the way he should be loved. I definitely think that Avery was it for him and together they were stronger than they both believed they were.
I loved reading the journey that Avery and Ryan went on together, I loved them as a couple and I loved them individually. These books really brought home to me the problems that people face whether they have an addiction or whether they are supporting that person and I have a new found respect for both parties!
H.M. Sholander has truly written 2 beautifully, thought-provoking books and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. For a debut novel and its sequel I think they are outstanding and I highly recommend them! I will certainly be reading them again!

Finding the Light: Edge Book 2 H.M. Sholander 4 stars
Finding the Light is NOT a standalone. Please read Escaping the Edge before reading this one.
This story follows Avery and Ryan further along in her recovery. This story focuses more on Ryan and the obstacles from his past that he has to overcome/deal with before he can move forward in life.
Avery’s love for Ryan is strong and she is willing to stick with him through some pretty tough situations he has to face. Ryan has been trying to clean up someone else’s messes and there comes a time that he just can’t clean up the mess anymore.
This book moved along at a good pace and it was cool to see what makes Ryan the person he is today.
The title of the book “Finding the Light” is very appropriate, because that’s what Ryan and Avery’s journey is all about, their ability to “find the light”. It’s a fantastic metaphor for what they both experience in this book. Lightness of spirit through working honestly with the demons that haunt them. The journeys that each take are not easy ones, they are not always the clearest or straightest, but they manage to take them while staying committed to furthering their own paths.
I was definitely more connected and empathetic to Avery and Ryan in this book than in the first. I was impressed with their commitment to each other. It is sometimes so easy to walk away when times get tough, but they stuck it out for each other.
If you are the family member or friend of someone struggling with drugs and alcohol, please know that there are support groups for you also. If you don’t know what to do or have lost hope, know that there are others that have been in the exact same place and are willing to reach out and help you also. You are NOT alone. Please don’t suffer in silence. It is NOT your fault that someone drinks or drugs. You didn’t cause it and you can’t cure it.

Avery has been coping well with her sobriety that she has decided that her and Ryan should go on an adventure together, and do the things they have never done and things they have always wanted to do. Ryan at first is not excited abo9ut the idea since they both have jobs, but as Avery points out neither of them like the jobs that they are doing. Ryan knows once she looks at him with them puppy eyes he has lost.

Las Vegas is their first adventure destination. Ryan is glad to get away for a few days leaving is brother James look after their alcoholic father while he spends some uninterrupted time with Avery. Before they leave Ryan suggests that they attend a meeting, while at the meeting Ryan gives her, her six-month sobriety chip and tells her and every one at the meeting how proud he is of her. During the last few months Avery and Ryan have been happy and in a relationship, except for sex, he doesn’t want to go there until he knows Avery is over Grayson and is in love with him.

When they are in Vegas Avery finds out that Ryan is afraid of heights and decides she is going to help him with it. She takes him for a ride on a Ferris wheel and even though he says no, he knows he is not going to refuse her, after they have been on the Ferris wheel she takes him on the flying fox which has him more afraid than being on the Ferris wheel. Ryan notices a few missed calls from James and decides he should return the call. On speaking to James, he finds out that their father cannot be found. Ryan knows he must tell Avery but also knows that he is not happy to ruin their adventure. When he tells Avery about the call she says they must go home now and find him, but Ryan tells her no they are leaving in the morning.

So much happens in this book it’s a must read.

Finding the Light: (Edge Book 2)
By: H.M. Sholander
5 out of 5 stars

The story Finding the Light: (Edge Book 2) by H.M. Sholander is a contemporary romance book. This is the continuing story of Ryan and Avery. Since Ryan has been Avery’s sponsor for her drug and alcohol abuse he has been the rock that she has depended on. What comes next will test both of them and they will see just how strong a connection they have. Avery is moving on with her life and is finding all she needs by being with Ryan. Their connection and love is what keeps her going. Although she knows that at any time her addictions can resurface. Avery loves to do things on the spur-of-the-moment and can always get Ryan to go along with anything she thinks up. It is heart-warming to read that she is making peace with her former lifestyle and all the consequences that happened because of it. This story gives Avery her time to shine. She is patient with Ryan and even when he is upset and doesn’t want to speak, she always makes it known that she loves him and is there for him.

This story focuses a lot around Ryan. His situation with his father has not changed and now in one night, Ryan’s entire life turns upside down. Not sure what to do he withdraws from the one person who has vowed to always stand by him. Ryan even stops going to the support meets with Avery, something that he has always insisted on going to with her. He is looking for answers as to why things have turned out the way they do. This is a wonderful sequel to Escaping the Edge. The books in this series are written so that you need to read each one in order. So if you haven’t read the first book yet grab your copy and then start this one. This is one series that has touched my heart and makes me believe in true love and soul mates. This book does include mature subject matter and would be for those 18 years or older.

Finding the Light, Edge Book 2, by H.M. Sholander is definitely a 4.5 star read!

This is the second book in the series and it is the conclusion of Ryan and Avery’s story. I was so excited to start and read this book. Ryan and Avery had been through so much since they first met and they were overcoming those obstacles. They both decide to get away from everything and just throw some names of places they want to visit into a hat and just go and be free from everything. When they decide that they are actually going to do this, they are so excited to see what this next chapter will mean for their relationship. While on their adventure, not even gone 3 days, Ryan gets a call, from his younger brother, that has them returning home. Ryan being the good guy that he is, tries once again to fix an impossible situation. Realizing that he is only one person and isn't a miracle worker, he sends his brother back to school and he and Avery head back out. Never expecting the next call and what he hears while on the phone, his entire life is immediately changed. Going back home this time is life changing for both of them. Before they left, Avery sold all of her belongings so she has nothing. When Ryan asks her to move in with him, she thinks things are going to be good, until he starts pulling away from her and closing himself off from everyone and everything.
Will they be able to overcome things this time or is this the end of the road for Ryan and Avery?
In order to completely understand this book and the past of the characters, I do recommend that you read Book 1 ahead of time.

Finding the Light
Book 2 in the Edge series
H.M. Sholander

This was a continuation from Escaping the Edge. This book, unlike the first has 2 POV’s. Both Avery and Ryan’s mind frames are represented during the story. I don’t feel like this would be a standalone, in my opinion you need to read Escaping the Edge and then move to this one. Since the first book deals with addiction, this book starts where the last one ended. I would note if you have triggers to alcohol and drug abuse or violence, please be aware all are represented in this book.

In essence this book is basically Ryan’s book. Showing you his world, and how he has and is dealing with his father being an addict who’s not looking for redemption. Ryan, who’s an AA sponsor, has to essentially take care of his father, and bail him out of multiple situations. I relate to this book more than I did the first. This is a real issue in the world of addicts. The loved ones who “clean up” their mess. It’s safe to say I understood Ryan more than I did Avery, and I too was an enabler for an alcoholic. I connected to him in almost every aspect of this book.

As far as the story goes, it moved a bit slower than the first book. I’m 100% all for HEA, and light and fluffy that go down in a story. Even for me this was a bit too much. I think the first half of the book I just kept waiting for the story to actually start. I liked having the closure of the story, and I do recommend the series. This author has great potential and I will be excited to see what else she comes up with for us to read.

Finding the Light is the second book in H.M Sholander’s Edge series and it is an amazing conclusion of Avery and Ryan’s story. This book is full of love, loss, lies, redemptions, forgiveness and moving on.
Ryan has always taken care of his dad and brother. No matter how many times he says that he is giving up on his dad, he never has nor will he. Avery convinces Ryan to take an adventure, destination unknown, just the two of them to take a break from all the craziness that is their life. They are having the time of their lives until one phone call changes everything. He is going to have to not only save his dad but he will need to protect Avery too. But how can he do both? When things start spiraling out of his control, will he be able to keep everyone he loves safe?
Avery only wants to be there for Ryan but he is pushing her further and further away. Will she be able to reconnect with him before it is all too late?
I was so worried how this book would go because the first one was such an emotional rollercoaster but this book was just as emotional but on a completely different level. I was scared for Ryan because the things that he was dealing with were so different that what he is used to dealing with. And poor Avery, I was unsure if she was strong enough to handle the stress being this early into her sobriety. But both Ryan and Avery are so much stronger than I thought she would be. I was so happy with the way everything turned out and I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Finding the Light is book two in the Edge series by H.M. Sholander. We ended book one with Ryan still cleaning up after his father and Avery six months into her recovery journey. Neither situation is easy but together they can manage it.

Book two revolves more around Ryan and his story. We learn his fears and his concerns with his father. How he feels like this is his responsibility even though children shouldn't have to take care of their family this way. Ryan tries to lead a life of spontaneity with Avery by going on an adventure but he's always pulled back to reality because of his low life father.

After a heartbreaking situation with his father and little brother, James, Ryan still finds ways to blame himself. He finally understand why people give into their addictions as the only thing he wants is to not feel anything.

Avery tries her hardest to be there for Ryan like he was for her. But he does a very good job at pushing her away. He feels bad for it but he doesn't want to burden her and keeps her in the dark about a scary situation.

This story is how they move on from their fears. How they grow as a couple and as individuals. They are each other's rock and will continue to need one another throughout this crazy thing called life. I love their raw, honest feelings. They make me jealous of the love that they share and Sholander makes it clear how much these two truly care for the other. It was an easy read and relatively easy to get lost in and finish quickly. Only read after book one, Escaping Edge.

The second book in the series, Finding the Light by H. M. Sholander, continues the story of Avery and Ryan.

Avery’s life has continued to change. She no longer turns to alcohol and drugs to get her through her days. Instead, she is happy with Ryan, the one man who helped her through her darkest days.

Now, it is her turn. Ryan is torn between taking care of his father, keeping his brother away from it all, and living his own life. The two decide to go on an adventure – one that gets cut short because of Ryan’s father.

Then, the unthinkable happens and Ryan is taken down a rough path. He pushes Avery away, just like she did when she was first struggling with her addiction. She had to learn to let him in to help, now it is his turn to rely on her.

Together, they make an amazing team but Ryan threatens to tear them apart. Stuck in his own world, he keeps pushing her away.
I loved this book. I really hope that there is another book in the Edge series. I really want to see Ryan and Avery finally get the break that they deserve so that they can finally be happy together.

H. M. Sholander writes with such heart that I couldn’t put it down. I had to see if Ryan could get past his darkest days and let Avery in again. I rooted for this couple that had been through so much in such a short amount of time. I look forward to reading another book by this author – and hopefully soon!

Finding the Light by HM Scholander is the second and final book in Scholander’s Edge series. It is not a stand alone novel, so as much as I enjoyed this book, do not read it until you've read the first book. In this book, we get to rejoin Avery and Ryan, a few months after the ending of Escaping the Edge, on their journey to find happy, fulfilling and healthy lives and relationships. Avery is finally feeling finding peace with losing Grayson, and in control of her addiction. However, Ryan is near his own breaking point in his attempts to help his father. In the same way that Avery finds her strength in Ryan, Ryan is only able to hold himself together and find peace in Avery.

I absolutely loved how seamlessly I was able to fall back into this story with this book. I was awed at how deep the author portrayed Avery’s addiction in book one, and this book was just as authentic in showing the other side of addiction. The struggles that Ryan battled, and Avery along side him, were written so beautifully, that even though I have no experience with addiction myself, I felt truly connected to the issues that Scholander’s characters were facing. The chemistry between Avery and Ryan and the love they shared was also a wonderful addition to a story like this. Like the light in a dark room, their connection is so perfect that you can't help but continue to root for them. These two books were a wonderful and heartfelt romance.

Finding the Light (Edge Series) by H.M. Sholander is the second book in the Edge Series. I gave this amazing read 4 out of 5 stars. This novel is told in alternating first person POV by the two main characters: Avery and Ryan. I highly recommend reading this series in order to truly grasp the emotional journey Avery has gone through. This second book continues the story of Ryan and Avery.
Ryan has been instrumental in Avery’s recovery from addiction. As a sponsor, his sole job was one of support and compassion. Their love is the fuel keeping Avery surviving each day, and actually looking forward to the possibilities of the future. She doesn’t doubt his love for her, nor his loyalty. Avery is growing and healing, but Ryan is in stasis. He is still in a bad cycle with his father, and while Avery dealt with her issues with drugs and alcohol-he deals by withdrawing into himself. Is Avery strong enough for both of them? Will her insecurities resurface as Ryan pulls back from her?
Wow, another amazingly beautiful story! Ugly soul baring topics, yet such delicate almost lyrical writing. The passion between Avery and Ryan is so raw and intimate. They have seen each other’s “rock bottoms” and love each other despite it. There is so much hope amidst the sadness of their situations. The focus was more on Ryan in this novel, but Avery (now healing) gets to shine as she finds who she truly is. She gets to become the rock for Ryan. Loved, loved, loved this novel!

Finding the Light is one of the most aptly named books I have had the pleasure of reading in a long time. This is the follow up to Escaping the Edge and it is just as amazing. This also deals with some very serious subject matter but it is so well done that instead of being overwhelmed with the seriousness of the story I was swept up in the beauty that can be found in the dark.

This follows Avery and Ryan as they learn how to be themselves but better together. I found their relationship to be endearing and I found myself rooting for them as they made the inevitable mistakes. Though this is more about Ryan and his devolving family we see the dynamic of these two as they fight for each other like no one else can.

This is a five star read for me because I again could not put it down. This may have had a darker story behind it but the light at the end of the tunnel was brighter for it in the end. I would recommend this book for anyone who has ever felt alone in the darkest of times. This is a great example of just how strong we are as humans who have the ability to love. It shows us not to take that for granted but to use that love when needed because it can only lift us up. This book made me cry a little and cheer more. It gave me hope that after everything, we will be ok. I suggest you read this book and then find the person that completes you and tell them that they do so, you will both be happier for it.

Book Review: Finding the Light (Edge #2)
Author: H.M. Sholander
FIVE STARS
In Finding the Light (Edge#2) We again find Ryan and Avery together and hoping that things keep getting serious between the two of them.
This second book in the Edge series by H.M. Sholander again deals with the urges and fights that are always then when an addict is trying to stay clean. Ryan tries to shelter Avery from everything and is always there to listen, comfort, and love her as she recovers and stays away from her addictive habits.
Ryan is the one struggling in this second book. As we read in book one his father is an alcoholic and doesn't make very good choices in his life and Ryan is the one that is always there to pick him up from various bars, hotels, alleys, and police stations.
Avery is the supportive one this time as Ryan is dealing with some major family problems concerning his father and things he has done. Again Ryan is trying to keep his father out of trouble but has managed to get himself into some in the process.
Is Ryan going to be able to save everyone? Will he work this out in time? Can Ryan protect Avery and keep her sheltered from what he is really dealing with?
Wonderful book and it keeps you on edge and drawn in as you try to help them cope with the battles in front of them.
Five stars all the way.

Finding the Light

By HM Sholander

FIVE STARS

This book is amazing! Eek. When i seen that there was a second book out and there was no time to wait. I had to have it at that very second.

Finding the Light by HM Sholander is amazing. Another amazing book from a new author to me.  Normally I would need to switch it up between authors but her writing is so amazing that i didn't need that break.

I had an amazing feel about this series and this couple. I fell in love with Avery and Ryan. Their love and devotion for one another is just amazing. Sometimes I wish my husband was as sweet as Ryan!

Both of them are fighting their own demons. Each need to get themselves straight. Ryan always the dependable when it comes to his father. Making sure that he was there when he needed.

Avery is feeling free. Free of the demons that had been weighing her down. She is getting sober for herself and it is just a bonus she has Ryan next to her. Now what will they do when they are together. Happy. Free.

What will happen when their relationship is tested in the hardest of times. Who will break? Who will make it?

Avery is one of the most amazing characters that I truly wanted to get to know and be friends with. Ryan is so strong. I loved how he was.

This definitely will not be my last read from this author.  I am addicted to her books now!! Another amazing book by HM.

The conclusion to Escaping The Edge starts out with main characters Avery and Ryan at a crossroads in their life. It was nice to get to read about the “happy ever after” for Avery and Ryan.  Although they find out it's not always an easy path getting to happily ever after.  They are starting a new relationship and Avery is a newly recovered alcoholic.   A spontaneous road trip to a randomly picked spot in the United States sounds like the easiest and most exciting idea. Along the way and during the trip their bond strengthens.  That is until Ryan gets a call about his alcoholic father being in trouble again.

This book lets the reader learn more about Ryan and his inner thinking whereas book 1 was more about Avery.

“The point of this life is to be happy. Be the happiest you can be while helping someone along the way because, even long after you're gone, you can live forever from one simple act of kindness.” Words of advice from Ryan which really spoke to  me and how deep this book could be at times. Ryan has to go through a lot in this book from extreme losses to new beginnings of relationships and career. I loved the character development and growth of both main characters. This was an easy to read, well flowing book with an unique storyline.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to read an uplifting story of growth and personal strength.

Finding the Light (Edge Book 2) by H.M. Sholander
Four Stars

Finding the Light is the second book in the Edge series. It is not a stand alone book. I would highly recommend you read Escaping the Edge first. This book is a continuation of Avery and Ryan’s story. In the first book Ms Sholander portrayed the trials and tribulations of addiction and it continues in this book on how hard it is to stay sober.

Avery can get Ryan to do just about anything she wants because he loves her and want her only to be happy and sober for the rest of her life. Avery decides they should live life while they are young, so she asks Ryan to go on a road trip. She hates her job and hasn't really found out what she wants to do with her life “ when she grows up”. They throw four destinations in a hat, quit their jobs and Avery sells all her furniture and take off to their first destination.

Four days in and Ryan gets a phone call there is trouble at home with his dad. Although he wants to continue on the trip, he tell Avery and she insist they go back to California to deal with his family problems. What transpires is very emotional. I had to had Kleenex in hand during some parts of this story. I really enjoyed this follow up book. The character descriptions and situations were so true to live. I'm so glad that I read this series. I'm definitely putting H.M. Sholander on my TBR list from now on.

"Kissing Avery is like having every dream come true. Together, we’re a force to be reckoned with. Together, we’re unstoppable."

It was nice reading more about Ryan and Avery's story. I was sad when Escaping the Edge ended because their relationship was just getting started, and I really wanted to see how their story ended. It's crazy how different the roles between both characters were this time around. In book one, Ryan was there for Avery when she was struggling with her addiction and getting the help she needed. This time around, it's Avery that is there for Ryan while he continues to struggle with his dad's drinking problem. I loved seeing both characters step up and be there for each other the way they were. I liked that even though they both had their individual battles, they always gave 100% to each other and didn't let their issues get in the way of one another. I felt so bad for Ryan because of everything he had to deal with while growing up and everything he continued to deal with as an adult. I'm so happy that he got his happy ending. If anyone deserves to be loved and appreciated, I would say it's definitely Ryan! Finding The Light is the perfect conclusion to the Edge Series!

Finding the Light is book 2 in the Edge series. This picks up basically where the first ended so go read it! I feel this book was forced in parts, I really wanted to connect again with Avery and Ryan but I never really did. The dual POVs worked well for me because where the connection seemed to stop for them, I was able to get in each of their heads. They didn't really know each other and that kind of surprised me, we started to finally find stuff out at the end of book 1 but their relationship didn't advance and kept me wondering. I think the story line is unique and my heart broke at times.

This is the second and final book of the “Edge” series. I was looking forward to reading this story, as at the end of “Escaping the Edge”, Ryan and Avery’s relationship was just beginning to develop. I loved how these two were there for each other no matter what, and helped each other overcome obstacles in their path.
This is a perfect conclusion to a good series, and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Why are all the books I've been reading lately so heavy?? I need a mental break after this one. It was SUCH an amazing read, but there are some very heavy topics discussed throughout. It's nice to read a book once in awhile that talks about the serious things in life. I really connected with Ryan because of his role as caretaker for an addict. It was hard to read what he went through, but slightly therapeutic, as well. <3 A+++++

Finding the Light, by author H.M. Sholander, is the second book in the Edge series. This is a new adult/contemporary romance. Finding the Light is a continuation of Avery and Ryan’s story that began in Escaping the Edge. Change is evident with everything in life, you cannot and should not expect nor anticipate everything to always remain the same. Change can be good, but on the opposite side of that coin, it can also be bad. In this sequel in the Edge series, a shift is going to occur. It is either going to tear Avery and Ryan apart or it will make their relationship and each of them stronger than ever.

Avery continues to grow in this story, but we know, as does Avery, that a relapse is always possible. It’s making the conscience choice to be better than that and own your life, not allowing the addiction to own you. Ryan is her rock, her home, her safe haven.

Avery and Ryan struggle in this story, not of their own making, but when the past or outside circumstances come crashing into their lives. We get much more on Ryan in this book, his struggles, his issues, his choices that will ultimately impact them depending on how those are handled.

It’s hard for a sequel to live up to the hype or success that may be garnered in the first book of a series, but H.M. Sholander did an amazing job in holding form and providing the same beautiful writing in the second novel as they did in the first. Overall, this series has been remarkable, a must read, full of emotions and choices that touch to your very depth.
