Dmitri Veselov has the looks of a model... well, except for his scars and prison tattoos. He's as heartless in dating as he is vicious in handling his business. And this big motorcycle-riding stud already has every stripper at Sultan's Palace squirming in their G-strings.

But when Dmitri meets Sonya, he has feelings of comfort and trust like he hasn't felt since before his happy childhood took a tragic turn into a brutal life of death and violence.

Yet with a mafia war raging, his mob boss uncle's fortune on the line, and more dark secrets than he can count, will Dmitri risk everything to save Sonya when she gets in trouble with a ruthless sheikh?

Taken Back is an 80K word novel with a HEA and no cliffhangers.

This was a DNF for me in fact I only made it to 10%.
The blurb sounded so good and exactly what I like to read I also noticed it was this authors first book so I really wanted to like it.
Firstly the shy and innocent Sonya gets a job at a gentlemen's club but Sonya is in debt, credit cards bills are piling up she can't afford her car or her water bill and before this she was working as a waitress in a diner yet we're supposed to believe that she can somehow afford to use the same gym as the rich and successful Halim who owns the club and gave her the job.
I didn't like any of the characters, the writing style or the dialogue so unfortunately this book just didn't work for me at all but it has loads of great reviews so I'm definitely in the minority here.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free for an honest review. Thanks to Alyna Amorosi.)

“You are lucky I can barely move, talking to me that way.”
“What would you do, hit me? You brute.”
“No, I would never hit you. I would...”
“What?”
Sonya said with a bratty stare.
“I would take you in my arms and make you mine.”

I am sorry to say, but I did not like it at all. The beginning was good, but later it became really boring. I could not concentrate and get into it. The writing style was poor, I am not sure was it because it was authors first book...
Anyway, it was more about the erotica then mafia. The name says mafia, so it should have been about mafia. We did not see how he fought the FINAL and the most important fight. I guess author wanted to write it that way to surprise us, but well, it did not work, for me, anyway.
Being an ARC reader is pressuring, since you don't want to leave a bad review, and say something bad, since authors after all give you a free copy moreover in advance, however I am sorry but I cannot lie.
The female character was stupid, insane and there was an impression that she will jump anyone just to lose her virginity. And she was kind of clingy, also she has an impressive, NOT, imagination...

DISCLAIMER TO MY FELLOW GOODREADER
This review is my personal opinion and may contain: spoilers, quotes, rants and swearing.

***ARC received by author in exchange for honest review.***

20 year old Sonya Valentina lost her mother tragically and has been suffering financially ever since. She was forced to quit nursing school. A man from her gym offered her a job at his business Sultan's Palace - a gentleman's club. Sonya has a soft naive personality so her new environment threw her into a den of wolves.

22 year old Dmitri Veselov is a working his way up in the Russian mafia. Both of his parents are dead and his uncle raised him to be the man he is today. Dmitri has the potential to rise to the top if he is not killed first.

Debut novel. I always go into books with an open mind. You never know where the journey will lead you. This book had potential but I was lost the entire time. I would be in someone's head then suddenly in another. The plot was all over the place and the dialogue seemed borderline childish from the two main characters. The book was set in the late 90s. Everything was rushed and none of it ever connected with me. Pains me to give such a low rating. Just because I was unable to enjoy it does not mean others will have the same experience.

Cliffhanger - no (stand alone)
POV - Sonya & Dmitri (few others as well)

This is Amorosi first novel and while the concept is well thought out the delivery is where she had problems.  She explained right from the beginning that the story was written in third person, yet the main character’s inner dialog was going to be in first person.  I’ll be honest, this was disjointed and didn’t read smoothly.  Amorosi would have been better served writing in first person and switching POV.  The story also jumps from present tense to past tense, which again was confusing and very disjointed.  I also found the dialogue crude and rudimentary and I don’t feel it did her characters or the story the justice they deserved.
The ending was also too abrupt, I think it would have been better served to have a climactic battle instead of just fizzling the way it did.  I do like that we got an HEA.

However, like I said the overall concept of the story was sound and the characters were will developed and thought out.  I didn’t DNF because I was legitimately interested in where the story went.  I will be interesting to see how Amorosi develops as an author.

ARC received for honest review. I'm fond of this genre and admire anyone greatly who puts forth the effort to put out a book. I'm happy to see that others enjoyed this book, but unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. I found both main characters to be very two dimensional and couldn't connect with them. They were very young so that may have been part of what I didn't like, especially because she was acting like a teenage girl most of the time and they flipped on their emotions a lot. I couldn't get through all of it so maybe it got better. Since I didn't like the characters I got frustrated at their actions and had to stop, which I rarely ever do. I think it has potential in the story, just needs a little more work on the characters.

Taken Back: A Bad Boy Russian Mafia Romance by Alyna Amorosi was gifted to me in an ARC in exchanged for an honest review. I am giving this book 5 amazing stars because this was my first time reading a book from this author, and I have to say she did a wonderful job. I have read a lot of mafia books and Russian mafia books are my favorite. So of course when a writer starts out there going to be some errors because its all a learning process, but for this author it wasn't like that. She created and tied these characters together perfectly. She just did a brilliant job on this book and from beginning to end I was enthralled in their story. Sonya is a young innocent girl who has been through a lot, and because of this hardship she needs money to pay back bills that are pilling up on her. She already had to drop out of college, and she had to stop working at these minimum wage jobs that are not even making a dent in her bills. They are not helping her at all so when she meets this nice guy at the gym who she getting to know offers her a job at his club she takes it. But she makes it clear to him she does't want to do anything that goes against her values. And he tells her no he respects her, and she will be only working the front door greeting his costumers and collecting the money. Of course she scared that his going to expect more from her. But so far her new boss is good to her and treats her good, but what you are going to find out is that there more to her boss then she knew. His going to turnout to be her worst nightmare. But when she meets Dmitri she not only going to fall in love with him, but his also going to turnout to be the man that saves her from her evil boss. And they are both going to find out that they are more connected then they could ever dream of. Because both of them are going to get so many questions answered about there past. After everything they have been through they both know they belong together. And once Dmitri sees Sonya for the first time he knows she is it for him. It comes as a surprise to him because he was never looking for his soulmate. If you want to know how this story unfolds and ends your going to have to read it. I will end with this you are going to love this book. I know I did, and I found a new author because Alyna made me her forever fan.

***ARC received by author in exchange for honest review***

Let me say, this the first ARC I ever from an Author. And I was flattered when I got that chance to read it.

When I read the blurb for the story, I was hooked. I love it and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the story. So far, I've read one Mafia series, enjoyed I couldn't wait to read another one but by a different author.

When I read Taken Back I felt it read more like a Thriller than a Romance. I didn't feel the hero and the heroine had any connection and rarely during the early chapters did I feel that attraction or tension between them. I understand, the hero is in the Mafia and his attitude stems from his lifestyle but I felt when it came to the woman he was attracted to things should've smoothed out a bit.

The story was more about Sonya than it was from Dmitri. More than half of the book I rarely saw him or heard of him only a few times. Dmitri finally came to the light halfway of the book all the way to the end. I tried to connect with Sonya but I couldn't I thought she was too naive and honestly stupid. And I think one reviewer said to 'clingy' which I agree. I mean couldn't she feel how Halim was a bit shady? Halim scared me and made me feel uncomfortable throughout the whole novel.

I will say this, I think Alyna Amorosi has a talent in writing and I hope she continues to write stories for readers to enjoy but the novel was not for me. I will, however, continue to read her future stories.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is the debut release for this author and although the plot was good, the writing did let it down.

First you had to get used to the fact that the story changed points of view a lot without warning. We get Sony'a POV, Dmitri's POV and then we get the narrator.

At times considering at what both have already been through they also seem to act like teenagers, when if brought up in the life they appear to have had they would have acted wiser than their years. Quite often i would want to slap the characters because they were just being daft.

Also what should have been the big final show down between Dmitri and his uncle Ivan was glossed over and therefore was a let down.

The idea of the story was good it just was not executed in the right way for me, but glad it worked for other people.

So so

This was a good story but the characters were childish and the dialogue not believable. Sonya lost her mom in a car accident and bills start piling up so she gets a job at a “gentlemen’s club “ as a greeter. She meets Dmitri, who is in the Russian mob. When he’s uncle, head of the mafia, gets killed, Dmitri goes into hiding until he can take his rightful place as the boss. His cousin has taken over and is out to kill him. While gone Sonya gets herself sold to a sheik who wants her virginity. Dmitri rescues her and they have to hide until his cousin is out of the way.
I know this probably doesn’t make sense but it’s hard to describe without giving too much away. There is drugging, kidnapping, almost rape, and rough sex. At the first of the book the author tells you she writes the main characters thoughts in italic. But sometimes you couldn’t tell who was doing the thoughts. It sort of ran together.

I like my mob stories to be a good balance of dark mafia action and a love story. I felt this book was heavy on the love story but had great potential for the mob story too. I didn't however like when really important parts of the mafia conflict were glossed over eg. the meeting with Ivan at the end should have been an explosive scene between the two major players rather than the too easy way it ended.

Not a bad read

Poorly worded, but good story. A thrilling ride through the eyes of someone who is young I suppose. I won't read again but I'm not angry that I read it in the first place.

Love this story. A lot of action, keeps you on the edge. The hero of the story is funny in his own way but I did like his sense of humor. I'm going to look for more books from this author.

Sonya Is Taken Back By Her Man, Dmitri!

Sonya is a young, innocent and naïve girl. She is too trusting for her own good. After her mother dies, she struggles to make ends meet. Sonya meets a man at the gym, Halim, who offers her a job. He tells her that she can make very good money. The job is at a “gentlemen’s club” called Sultaim Place. Halim assures Sonya that she will only be a hostess greeting people at the door. Sonya doesn’t really feel comfortable with her job or look forward to going to work. One night an attractive Russian man comes to the club. Sonya has an instant attraction to him and is flattered by the way he kisses her hand.

Dmitri Veselov is next in line to become the Pakan in the Russian Mafia. He is used to woman falling into his lap to be with him, literally. When he meets Sonya, Dmitri knows right away that she is different, and he finds that very intriguing. Sonya makes Dmitri feel things that he hasn’t felt in a long time, a sense of peace. Dmitri has had a hard life. He has the scars and tattoos to prove it or show for it. It has not been easy for Dmitri, because his mother died when he was very young, he spent time in a Russian prison, and he grew up in the Russian Mafia. When Dmitri wants something he goes for it and gets it. After a motorcycle ride, dinner and skinny dipping date with Sonya, Dmitri decides that he wants to make Sonya his. Very Alpha Male of him. But there are things that he has to take care of in his “business” and has to go away for a little while.

Sonya had a really nice time with Dmitri and hopes to see him again. After Sonya doesn’t hear or see Dmitri for a while, she becomes depressed or down. Her boss, Halim, takes advantage of Sonya’s moment(s) of weakness and offers her a promotion. She knows that something doesn’t add up / not a good situation, but accepts the job anyway. Which is not very smart, but Sonya is not thinking straight. This is when her life changes for the worse, and Sonya must fight to save herself. Sonya hopes that Dmitri will save her, but Halim tells her that Dmitri was part of it &/or had a hand in what has happened to her. Will she make it out? Can she save herself and survive? Will Dmitri come to her rescue and be her knight in shining armor?

Taken Back is a story that is full of twist and turns. There is plenty of action and suspense with danger and deceit thrown in the mix. This story offers villains / lowlifes that you can see and ones that you don’t know are villains at first. Dmitri is a motorcycle riding, bad boy, alpha male, who is in the Russian Mafia. He is a bad boy who turns into a hero in the end. He is my favorite kind a male character. I wish Sonya could have been a little more fiesty and independent, but I understand that she is just venturing out on her own for the first time (in the beginning). I can understand why the author chose to have Sonya have these characteristics. I enjoyed to chemistry between Dmitri and Sonya as well as the hot sex scenes. I love the way they interacted with each other. With the ending the author allowed us to understand Dmitri a little bit better and told us more about him, in my opinion. It also cleared up or addressed / explained some of the background / past that Dmitri and Sonya had together. I love and appreciate all the descriptions of the scenery and location. I received this arc in exchange for an unbiased review. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy bad boys and/or Russian mafia.

POV = Alternating POVs
Bad Boy / Alpha Males = Yes
Overall Story = 4 1/2 Stars
Chemistry / Hotness = 4 1/2 Stars

My favourite genres are 1. Romance and 2. Mafia and with this debut novel "Taken Back" I've found the best of both worlds!

"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get Dmitri Veselov.”
( I mean, yea, that happened!)

Quick summary:
We have Sonya our leading female MC, who is quite naive in some respects but also very loyal and caring. Caught in a sad financial situation, she finds herself accepting a somewhat sketchy job offer from a dapper businessman. Little did she know that this would be the beginning spark of change that would affect her for the rest of her life, in more ways that one.

Dimitri, our badass mafia boss and hero MC isn't looking for love. Why... He's got business to take care of. Yet destiny is a determined thing, and Dimitri learns that first hand. He cannot deny the chemistry that runs so much deeper for Sonya, or the fact that their lives seem to have become intertwined. All he can do, is fight for what he wants, for who he loves and that's Sonya.

Review:
The beginning of this book was a slow burn, we got to familiarise ourselves with Sonya; and a bit in - Dimitri. It was light, fresh, youthful and witty in its delivery and brought the reader in.

Then wham! Little did we know that things were about to take a complete 180 degree swing into page turning goodness! There was no lacking in the 'badass action' department! From brutal fights to gun battles. From sneaky associates to rats. From tangled pasts to present chaos! We get it all in a lively dose after dose!

It was good! And surprisingly realistic. I loved that it was set in the 90s for some reason, it added a uniqueness in a way. And of course, Vladimir is my old school hero!

At times I found Sonya a bit gullible and that frustrated me. Her trusting nature was extended to all it seemed. Even though she did think things were strange, she still wanted to believe the best of people; and that ended up being very dangerous for her. It slightly irritated me, but then I remembered her age & naivety and gave her a pass for it.

The erotic scenes were scorching hot! Nothing lacking there. It was even a little risqué but it worked. (After all, we're dealing with some notorious men)

Overall, the writing was good and the plot was very interesting! As far as 'crime family/mafia' novels go, I can safely say this one is a winner!

4.25 stars! I would definitely recommend this to all you mafia/ romance lovers!

Good grief... What did I read? This is one of those books that had a slow build up for me but the twist and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Our H is Dmitri Veselov and our h is Sonya Valentina.

Sonya Valentina was a struggling waitress that had lost her mother and had to drop out or nursing school. To make ends meet she accepts a job from Halim, a man she met at the gym. Halim offers her a job working as a hostess at Sultan's Palace, a gentleman's club of his. While Sonya doesn't fit in at Sultan's Palace, she sticks with it for the money. She's not happy and is disinterested in the job until the day she sees Dmitri.

Dmitri Veselov is a Captain in the Mafia. He is a sexy regular of the Sultan's Palace that catches all the women's eye but doesn't care past a hook up. That is until he meets Sonya. He is gorgeous even with scars and tattoos and a past that includes prison but he is worried about bringing Sonya into his life. Dmitri isn't just a Captain of the Mafia, his uncle is also the Pakhan and is planning on Dmitri being his successor.

Sonya and Dmitri have one date that includes a motorcycle ride, dinner and skinny dipping with plans to lead to more... until Dmitri learns Sonya is a virgin. When Dmitri is called away after his uncle has been murdered and he needs to lay low, Sonya is depressed and angry. Halim seeing what he had been watching for offers Sonya a promotion of working in his import and exporting business. He tells her there will be more money, travel and she just needs to be a hostess to rich men he does business with. Halim is not a good man and Sonya is in trouble. Will Dmitri be able to save her?

As far as characters, I really liked Dmitri. He was alpha to the core and once he met Sonya, he was hooked. Sonya on the other hand, I didn't like. I would like to say she was naïve but honestly, I found her to be just stupid. Did my dislike for her change my view of this book? Not at all. The twist and turns though, wow. Once the book picked up for me, I was on the edge of my seat.

For a first book, this was a great start. I would have liked more from Dmitri's POV at the beginning and maybe headers to show where the POVs changed. It was a little hard to follow at times because I was trying to see who was speaking. All in all, I enjoyed it and look forward to more by this author.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I received this for a honest review. I absolutely loved this story. Sonya and Dmitri story is a sweet, romantic, and full of danger story. It is about a sweet innocent girl that is so naive that it gets her in some serious danger. It is about a Mafia guy who falls hard for this sweet girl and will do what ever it takes to protect her. From the moment he laid eyes on her he knew she was the one he was the one he had waited for all his life. There are a few twist along the way but you will have to read the book to find out all the surprises.

Sonya meets this man by the name of Halim. Sonya had lost her mother and was trying to make ends meet. She so badly wanted to finish college but had to drop out due to finances. So when Halim had offered her a job she jumped on the chance. She did not realize it was going to be a gentleman’s club and did not realize the danger she would face.

Dmitri had a way about him. He could melt any girls panties. He was taken back by this beautiful girl that was a hostess at this gentleman’s club. She truly was a breathe of fresh air. Dmitri was a very powerful handsome guy in the mafia and he also he loved his motorcycles. Yeah I think the motorcycles turns Sonya on as well..LOL

Things get hot and heavy between Dmitri and Sonya. She wants him to take her innocents but he keeps refusing her. This leaves Sonya so flustered. I loved Dmitri’s protectiveness when it came to Sonya. He pretty much saw red when another guy looked her way.

Dmitri is faced with a tragedy and soon finds himself in some serious danger. Friends and family are being killed and Dmitri will have to figure out who he can trust. What Dmitri is not aware of is the danger that Sonya has found herself in. If not careful she could be lost to him forever. Oh, don’t get your knickers in a twist, this book is a HEA story. *smirk*

If you are like me and love a bad boy romance you will fall in love with Dmitri and Sonya’s story. I truly enjoyed reading about the road blocks and challenges they went through. I think everything they went through just made their bond even stronger. Truly a book I would recommend.

Dmitri is Mafia all the way since his family is the leaders, but he has had a hard life when it comes to his childhood. Sonya has never met her father and her mother has already passed away, yet she has these childhood dreams of a little boy, she has no idea where they are coming from she just suspects him as an imaginary friend she had as a child. When Dmitri and Sonya meet at the club she is working for there is an instant attraction between the both of them, not knowing that they are both about to be on the ride of their lives. Sonya will learn that she can not always trust the people who are nice to her cause what they do behind her back will turn her life upside down, and Dmitri will learn that even some family can not be trusted.

What I enjoyed most about Taken Back is watching a strong Mafia Man that grows in ranks because of it being his empire he was born into, turn into such a sweet man towards Sonya but still have that roughness that turns Sonya on when it counts. Sonya a woman who has sisters in this world but lives on her own and is a self made woman when it comes to taking care of herself. But when the two are in the company of her boss things go for a turn, will they survive this mess or not? will they have they happily ever after? They both never give up and they are both there for each other even when they still dont understand all of it and what it happening.

This is an amazing story, I love Mafia stories and was glad I found this one. This story has a Mafia family that when given the chance some will kill to get to the top, A man who is tough and used to getting what he wants, a Woman who is just trying to get by and accepts a job that she wouldnt normally choose for herself but wanting to get by without having her bills be overdue, with some very bad men who dont care about the welfare of woman and sell and buy them for their own pleasure, with tons of action moments and plenty of danger, A Love Story. If you like stories like this, then Taken Back is a must!!

Sonya meets Halim at the gym and he is not entirely honest with her when he convinces her to take a job at Sultan’s Palace; she would never have considered it if she had known the truth. While at the club, Sonya meets Dmitri and has a sense of déjà vu, while Dmitri, not a romantic person, knows Sonya is the one he has been waiting for, and years ago their lives were intricately entwined. Halim is manipulative and shows a special interest in Sonya; he wants her to do everything he says or she would learn what happens to girls who didn’t behave. Sonya is in danger, but doesn’t realise it, or that Halim has ulterior motives she is not aware of. Vladimir, Dmitri’s uncle is gunned down in Russia, the hit being a power play for the Veselov throne. Sergei is Vladimir’s most trusted advisor and tells Dmitri he is to become the next Pakhan of the Saratov Syndicate; not only that it is time for Dmitri to know the truth, something he should have learned long ago - but listening to Sergei it destroys everything Dmitri thought he knew about his life. Before Dmitri can claim his rightful title, Ivan proclaims himself Pakhan and puts a bounty on Dmitri’s head. Ivan has the Veselov surname, but he doesn’t deserve it; he is not even part of the blood lineage and more than that has not earned the respect. Dmitri realises that he and Sonya will never have a normal life; Ivan will not rest until Dmitri is dead and he will kill everyone he loves. But Ivan has made a terrible mistake by announcing his travel plans to the media and, as a result, there are consequences. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was quite impressed. It was well-written, the story flowed well and there were plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this book. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sonya is going for a job interview or so she thought. The big man with the even bigger belly that opened the door has other ideas. He wants her to strip and dance for him. When Halim walks out and tells her that she doesn’t have to strip, she will be working the door, Sonya is relieved. Until she realizes that what she is wearing will not do for working the door. She will learn that the gentleman’s club she works at is exactly what she thought. A strip club and she is working the door but she is making good money in tips and she doesn’t have to take her clothes off. When a tall, very big man walks up, she notices he is Russian and when he speaks his native tongue, it seems familiar to her but she doesn’t know why. She is surprised when the Russian, Dimitri sends her a drink, it excites her. She looks for him each night and is surprised to see him on her day off at the mall. Things seem to be moving fast with Dimitri, but she can’t help herself, they are drawn together. When Halim offers her a job that seems too good to be true, she hesitates and Halim says she needs to decide tonight. You know that say, always trust you gut feeling, well Sonya knew she should have because she knows things are not right but she can’t put her finger on it. Was Dimitri really a part of this plan to get her to where she is? Can she trust anyone especially Dimitri? She thought there was something between them but apparently she was wrong? Can Dimitri get to Sonya before it is too late?
This is a really good debut story from Alyna Amorosi and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to more from this author.

Alyna Amorosi is a new author to me and I was honored and excited to read Taken Back: A Bad Boy Russian Mafia Romance!

Sonya Valentina has recently lost her mother and on top of that she picked up a second job as a hostess at a strip club since her waitressing wasn’t picking up the bills. A lot of shady men come into the joint, but there’s one man who’s extremely danger and he’s in the Russian mob. She shouldn’t be attracted to him, but for some strange reason Sonya feels safe under his gaze.

Dmitri Veseov is used to sending chills as he walks through the room. From scars to prison tattoos he’s the ultimate bad boy and vicious when he handles mob business. Men run away while every stripper in Sultan’s Palace wants him.

However, when Dmitri meets the new hostess, Sonya he starts to feel a sense of peace that he hasn’t had since his childhood. He wants to spend time with her, but with things going down in the mafia he’s not sure he can bring her into his tainted world, but what will he become without her?

Taken Back
is an amazing and well organized story. Dmitri is one powerful male! I swear I could hear and feel his dominance throughout the book. I had goosebumps during certain part of the book and the chemistry.. Whooo! I’m surprise my kindle didn’t overheat! Sonya and Dmitri characters seemed to come together effortlessly even with all the mayhem that was going on. I really enjoyed the suspense and how the story just sucked you right in.

I highly recommend for those who love Mafia Romances!

I am a sucker for Mafia Romance particularly when you throw in a dominate Russian – Dmitri was one hot and powerful man. This story at the start reminded me a lot of the Kristen Ashley book “Knight”, although not the same length and set in different environment, this had similar ingredients – naïve beautiful honest girl and a hot as hell Kingpin who fought his attraction but in the end nothing could keep them apart. This was definitely more grittier and had elements of the real seedy side of life including drugs.

I really enjoyed how this story was told, you are given both main characters and what is happening in their individual lives and then together, you could easily follow the storyline and there were hints of Sonya and Dmitri’s connections throughout the book until the poignant moment when it all crashes together. The reader was taken not only on a journey of romance but a suspenseful ride especially with Sonya and a dangerous job opportunity and there are characters that will have you guessing what part they are playing in this game of Mafia chess and who will come out on top.

Overall I enjoyed the ending and how we saw the characters complete the connections past and present, their time at the cabin was beautiful considering Sonya’s horrific few days and I was definitely kept on the edge of my seat. I was glad we were given some romance at the end after the few chapters of real dirty and deceitful actions by people Sonya trusted.

My only complaint is I did find some parts rushed towards the end.

What an intoxicating story. You get suspense, drama, love, lust, heartbreak, pain, sorrow, regret, hope, danger ,determination and lastly success. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. And boy was it great. You never got a chance to be bored the pages will keep you locked to the story. The story is about Sonya and Dimitri conquering all that was thrown at them and still stand tall together.
Sonya is a beautiful twenty year old woman who is innocent to a lot of the world ugly faces. She was also pure, which in a world like this is an amazing accomplishment. She meets someone at the gym name haliim who tells her about a job she could make so much money and with her debt so high since her mothers death she can't refuse. She is a hostess and one day meets Dimitri a super sexy Russian that makes her melt with just a look. But somethings are not always what they seem. Is this Russian man what she been waiting forever for? Should she trust her boss? Somethings are strange with red flags but what and who are involved?
Dimitri just saw his soulmate and will stop at nothing to possess her..yes he is a prince in the Russian mafia and hot as heck but he is still a man with a heart who now beats for Sonya. But there are secrets and traitors everywhere. Who can he truly trust? And will they try to hurt Sonya now that he has shown interest even more he has shown he cares a lot about her. Will she get hurt? Will he? Who is the traitor? What will happen to them as a couple or is there even a future for them at all? Read and find out..

I received this book as an arc by the author for an honest review.

The book intrigued me, I mean who does not want to read a book about the Russian mafia/love story. The one thing that stands out about this book for me, was that it was not saturated with sex scenes. This was a good thing for me, as I feel many of the newer books coming out are just sex scene after sex scene, throw in a little dialogue every few pages. However, this book you really get to know the characters especially Dimitri. I liked the twist that connects Dimitri and Sonya.

Now with all this being said, the reason why I could not give this book 5 stars is as follows.

Sonya was soooooooo damn naive, yes I understand that she is very young. However, her lack of intelligence and just overall lack of questioning anything GEEEZ. It made her seem like such a weak character, especially in comparison to everyone else we encounter.

Now without giving anything away, this book is a huge build up of the fate of Dimitri's mafia family, which was great. One of the reasons I finished the book in such a short period of time. However, when you finally get there it was very blah. It just seemed rushed and lacked a certain luster.

Overall the book was well written and kept my interested, I found myself saying one more chapter one more chapter and then I'll go to bed. Psssh yeah I devoured this book. I look forward to reading other things by this author and seeing her development.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sonya is a hostess at a gentleman's club called Sultan's Palace. She's the window dressing, so to speak. Dmitri walks into Sultan's and notices Sonya almost instantly. He's pretty much a regular there, having fun occasionally with the personnel, but he takes an interest in Sonya and doesn't wait to pursue her. Actively. Sonya's past is sketchy, at best. Her mother was very secretive about their family and Sonya knows next to nothing about her relatives and the death of her father. She never questioned it though. Apparently, her mother was not the only one to keep secrets, Dmitri has a few of his own. Some, he's sure, could even be deal breakers for Sonya. It seems Sonya has bigger problems to worry about. She's been offered a new job by the owner of the Sultan's Palace. A job she may not be able to refuse. Feeling as though she has been betrayed, she doesn't know who to trust. Will Dmitri be the one to help her, or will he be the one to ruin her ? THIS BOOK WAS WELL WRITTEN WITH AN AMAZING STORYLINE AND AWESOME CHARACTERS ! SUSPENSEFUL AND ACTION PACKED ! LOTS OF TWISTS AND TURNS TO KEEP YOU ON YOUR TOES ! The banter and sparring between Sonya and Dmitri was first rate. OH, CAN'T FORGET ALL THE OFF THE CHARTS, HOT, RIP THE SHEETS SEX ! ! ! Hard to believe this is Alyna's debut novel..... SHE'S DEFINITELY ON MY AUTOMATIC ONE-CLICK LIST AS OF TODAY ! LOVED IT ! GREAT READ !

This is my first read by Alyna Amorosi and was gifed an ARC in exchange for a honest review .
So , where to start ..? Although Taken Back is very entertaining and well written , and poor me , having a thing for mafia books and suck for the bad boys , I really couldn 't connect with Dmitri this time . Sorry , but, he really wasn 't my thing ! He infuriated me to no end .Maybe the fact that he was so fickle by times , then he was drawn to Sonya and later on, he pushed her away ,again , and again . I just don't know .No wonder I felt at once for Sonya and empathized with her , hoping she would find her happiness after all . At the other hand the whole mobster thing with the Russians was very nerve wrecking and kept me at the edge all the time . That's what I love about those mafia books . They do have to rattle my nerves till the end .
Taken Back is an awesome read , with a well-thought-out storyline full of danger , action, murder , sometimes with a witty banter between the main characters , romance ,scorching hot sex scenes and a surprisingly HEA .
If you 're in for an intruiging action packed romantic mafia story , don 't hesitate and read this one because not everone will dislike this hero like I did ;)
Well done Ms Amorosi , anxious to see what you have in store next time .

What I liked or Didn’t like: The only thing I would have changed in this Debut Novel was the ending I would have done a bit longer Epilogue. Other than that this book was very descriptive and well worth the time to rea. I will definitely be looking for more titles by this author in the future.
