Don't Forget

Rate this book
In 1986, Jamie Parker falls in love. What could be bad about that? Nothing except that the object of her affection is Val DiLeona, friend and fellow administrator in the same school district. If Jamie has misinterpreted that Val has similar feelings, confessing her affection could result in the end of their friendship. Then there is the little matter of the consequences at work. Outing herself as a lesbian could result in her losing her job.
Nearly thirty years later, in 2016, Jamie meets ambulance driver, Kelly, in a hospital waiting room. Upon learning how long Jamie and her partner have been together, Kelly asks Jamie to tell her their story. As Jamie begins, neither woman can imagine the impact their casual conversation will have on their lives, and the lives of those they love.

Here I am hard at work on my next story.

Let me tell you a little about myself. Twenty years ago, I wrote my first book just to see if I could do it. The novel occupied space on my bookshelf, unread for nearly twenty years until, one day while in a cleaning frenzy, I considered disposing of the neatly stacked but now age-yellowed pages. As I began to read the long forgotten work, I was surprised to discover that the story was enjoyable! Editing and retyping the first book provided a new sense of accomplishment and additional tales followed. Completion of This is Fitting encouraged me to write four more romance novels. I Love My Life and Sunset Island were followed by Awaiting My Assignment and its sequel, Anything Your Heart Desires. One Day Longer Than Forever is now complete and in the hands of first readers before the first big edit.

Now retired, there is all the time in the world to write. I live on the east coast with my partner of twenty-eight years. Because we love a challenge, we provide a loving home for two spoiled cats instead of a dog! In addition to writing, any spare time is devoted to reading, mastering new computer programs, and socializing with friends. (from the author's website)

The story is really interesting and moving, and it’s nice to read about older characters, but it’s more telling than showing, which is a bit frustrating. Hence the 3 stars rather than 4.

I loved that it is the story of an older couple. Although it centers on their beginning, it still tells a story of a long healthy relationship! Very enjoyable story. I want to go to the lake house and chill on the porch for a few weeks.

A brilliant and passionate love story.

This is what I always have been looking for but hardly have been able to find. A love story with an older couple and a story that does not stop at the first encounter but spanning years following the main characters. This is a story with real depth and a remarkable relationship development. The biggest part of the story is set during an era when sexual identity could sent your entire existence into disarray. You had to keep your sexuality hidden because of all the consequences. And not to mention the social discomfort. In that time you must be very careful about who you came out to. The author did a great job with telling the life story of Val and Jamie, two amazing women. Their struggle to figure things out, their way of dealing with prejudice was masterfully put down. The off-beat way in which this story is told is very appealing. All characters were heartwarming and I have never felt so connected to characters as in Don't Forget. I cared deeply for them. This book I'll surely read several times. A true love story that is very dear to my heart and I strongly recommend it.

Wow!! I loved this book, it's just a fantastic story that I highly recommend.

The story starts by introducing us to Val and Jamie, an older couple who are still happy and very much in love after being together for 30 years. When Val has a fall and is taken to the hospital, Jamie is scared. Jamie meets Kelly a young paramedic who sits with her at the hospital. Jamie and Val met at a time where they needed to hide their sexuality. Where they had to be careful about who they could trust.

The story switches back and forth between the past and present. Through this we learn about Jamie, Val and the story of how they met and got together. It's a sweet and romantic friends to lovers story, with lots of depth and character development.

I finished this book in one reading as it was so well written and I just couldn't put it down. While it was slower than a lot of today's contemporary romances, it worked really well for this story.

This is honestly just a really wonderful love story, that is beautifully told.

I'm not great with reviews, but I can say I loved this book! I would recommend 'Don't Forget' to anyone! I love a book that I can picture the characters in my mind and actually 'see' their actions or reactions. I give it 5 stars!

Loved the story of this older couple and how they got together and made a success of their relationship. A feel good romance with just enough of everything we would expect in an excellent romance. I was excited to get to the end and enjoyed the late twists in the story.
Supporting characters are brilliantly placed to value add to the story.
I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors that pulled me from the story.
