Vlad Chomsky has a comfortable life. He is a professor of archaeology at a small Midwestern university. He has three children and a lovely wife, Maria. Yes, everything in Vlad’s life is a comfortable routine—until the day his wife tells him she is leaving him for her bowling team manager. Feeling like a “used husband” who has been returned to the store as defective, Vlad begins a new life. On the way, he meets a cast of characters who help him discover that even something as impossible to make as a seven ten split really is possible. There is his new landlady, a 90-something former burlesque queen, and her tiny Toy Poodle, Gaston. There is her un-handyman, Norm, librarian Beatrice Krup, who has a crush on him. And of course, Britney, his new love and student activist. This motley cast of characters somehow manages to draw him into a terrorist plot, and Vlad and Gaston must save the town from a crazed saboteur.

This was a fun read from an author whose writing skills I admire. I wait for installment #2, and will be interested in how Jan will further develop the interesting cast of characters.
Admittedly read it on Kindle Unlimited, but thought it was absolutely hilarious. Really fun characters, a little flirty, a little mystery. Would absolutely recommend.
Just finished the book. It was great, compelling but delightful! Held my interest from beginning to end! I don't usually care for poodles but Gaston won my heart!
A fun read, beginning to end, from a creative lady
There are many flavors of books. This book is to be read for pure enjoyment. Jan has a terrific imagination and a delightful way of describing action. Vlad, a stuffy college professor living an unexciting and comfortable life is suddenly thrown into a world of constant turmoil. From finding new love and new friends to enduring a run-in with a terrorist and the FBI, this funny, enjoyable read is a pleasure and time well-spent.
