Sir Chocolate and the sugar dough bees story and cookbook is the 5th Sir Chocolate story I've read in this delightful series by Robbie Cheadle and her son Michael. For those unfamiliar with the collection, it's a children's book series with fondant art, baking recipes, and wonderful tales about the Land of Chocolate. Robbie writes young adult and suspense fiction, but she also co-writes these books with her family and shares videos on how to bake all the characters, cakes, and treats.

In this story, flowers are starting to fade. What's happened with the bees and the dough queen? If we lose our flowers, we'll lose so much more... so Sir Chocolate helps find the faeries who will solve the problem. And when they do, you can't possibly imagine the extraordinary flower cake they build. Honestly, Robbie outdid herself with this picture and recipe. It's truly an art form, and I love seeing all these beautiful creations.

Personally, I'd love to see the stories get a bit longer. I think the Cheadles do a great job at balancing the words and the imagery, but I know Robbie's talent with creating plots and characters, so maybe a few more pages to build even more interest. That said, they are meant for 2 to 9 year olds, so this is probably the most appropriate balance. Who wouldn't want more when they're so fun to read and view!

You might know by now, but I love how Robbie Cheadle puts her fondant illustrations to books that she and her son, Michael, write. But when she came up with the sugar dough bees, she wrapped my heart around her little finger. I loved their little fat bodies and their adorable story.

I know I have loved each of the other books, but when I saw those massively cute bees, I loved this one even more. There is something fun and endearing with fat bumble bodies and those busy wings.

The story was fun, and sharing these books with my granddaughters makes for even better memories. I loved each book, but man oh man, these bees got to me. I am quite a fan of Ms. Cheadle and Michael.

Who could not pick up Robbie and Michael Cheadle's story-and-baking book, Sir Chocolate and the Sugar Dough Bees Story and Cookbook (TSL Publications 2017) after reading this blurb:

"A greedy snail damages the flower fields and the fondant bees are in danger of starving. Join Sir Chocolate on an adventure to find the fruit drop fairies who have magic healing powers and discover how to make some of his favourite foods on the way."

This is a fun poetic story about the adventures of Sir Chocolate interspersed with wonderful recipes parents and kids create together--foods like Cheesy Bread and Butter Biscuits--accompanied by cute real-life pictures of the sugar dough creations, I have never seen a book that blended recipes and reading. How clever is that! Kids love cooking with parents, and now they can blend that with a favorite pastime: reading.

One more note: Robbie and Michael are mother-and-son. Not only will kids be inspired to cook with parents, but write and publish a book.

This book will be a delightful read for a child, and their adult companions for that matter. A brightly coloured cast of characters, with Sir Chocolate himself created from one of the most favourite treats of all time. Ten year old Michael Cheadle came up with the idea of this charasmatic character and also his lovely Lady Sweet. Robbie not only creates these characters from fondant icing, but composes the story in verse that takes us on this current adventure.

From a conservation perspective it is wonderful to see a children's story that gently introduces the subject of creatures who are at risk, and whilst the villain of this piece is a greedy snail, there are parallels with our own encroachment into nature. However, the colourful fondant snail with long fangs is monster enough for this fairy story. The other characters include sweet pink and apricot sugar mice, a cluster of endearing yellow and black sugar dough bees and very elegant fruit drop fairies.

In between the verses and illustrations are other gems in the form of recipes which are easy for both children (and some of us less proficient bakers) to make. Terrific Cheese Bread, Delightful Butter Biscuits, Jammy Scones, Rainbow Cupcakes, and one that will be made very shortly Bold Banana Bread.

This book may do little to reduce your waistline, but for children it will stimulate their imaginations and lead to some wonderful baking sessions with parents and grandparents.

A Work of Art; Sweet Treats of Magical Creatures; Recipes; and a Darling Story in Verse!

This is the most creative children's and bakers' heavenly book I've ever experienced! This is definitely a one-of-a-kind treat!

There are no illustrations, just incredible photographs of "... visions of sugarplums that dance in their heads ..."; made of chocolate with vivid colors and totally edible.

What an amazing collection of literature with uniqueness I've never encountered before, and I'm a collector of classic and unusual books as well as an avid reader and reviewer!

This little book is a treasure of mixed art for all ages. This BOOK is for families and generations to come. An incredible, delectable keepsake.

This is a children’s story and activity book about food.

It contains two rhyming poems. The first and longest is mainly for the children. It is about Sir Chocolate and Lady Sweet’s adventure to find the fruit drop fairies who have the magic sugar dust that can save the wilting flowers. The second is mainly for the parents reminding them that the moments spent with their children are wonderful and go by quickly.

These poems are illustrated with photographs of fondant artfully shaped like the characters in the poems.

The book ends with five recipes children can make with help from their parents: cheese bread, butter biscuits, jammy scones, rainbow cupcakes and banana bread.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It's so easy to read the very imaginative and rhyming story. Although I thought it would be too much text for my toddlers of 2 and four, they sat through 2 of Robbie's books in one go and just loved the sugar dough characters in the book. Afterwards we had to try and make the figures and since then they're hooked and want to play "icing sugar" all the time. Would love to see a step-by-step on some of the characters in the back to show how to make it, so one can really take the story further.

This is a great addition to my grandkid’s book collection. I love the pictures of the beautiful fondant and the cute poetic story with a nice rhyming flow. A bonus is the recipes included for family cooking. It’s a cute story where Sir Chocolate helps the sugar dough bees after a snail damages the flower patch where the bees feed. I can’t wait to share this book with my youngest granddaughters the next time they visit. Mother and son wrote a fun book for early readers, or adults to enjoy reading to younger children!

In this adventure, Sir Chocolate and Lady Sweet must find the fruit drop fairies to help heal the flowers that had been chewed by a hungry snail. This is a lovely book for little girls - full of pretty fairies, a cute squirrel and happy bees. I'm off to make the jammy scones which look ideal for tea today.

I adore Robbie and Michael's concept behind their books - just brilliant.

Interactive so that parents can not only read a book with their children but create the characters plus much more. A fun was to read, but also be involved with your children's development, and I am sure it leads to many more imaginative games as the children can use their dough character in their own games.

A much-needed read for this busy world we live in, to make us slow down, interact and be with our children.

I would thoroughly recommend it to all parents
