Revenge is a dish best served with magic—and a pet dragon.
Hannah killed those who destroyed her family, but the man who ordered their deaths is still alive—and in power. It’s time someone worked to end Adrien’s evil rule.
But to find justice, Hannah needs to increase her skills. She and Sal head to the Heights for a little one-on-one training with a handsome young mystic while Ezekiel heads north to right a forty year old wrong.
Meanwhile, Parker is stuck dealing with the mess left behind after Hannah's ass-kicking. He has to fight back against a group of anti-magic zealots and uncover the mystery of a new factory whose workers are never seen nor heard from again.
The nightmare is real, but a Reawakening is coming.
Reawakening is fast-paced, full of action, and follows Hannah’s quest to build a team and stop the evil Adrien’s plans to rule Irth.
C.M. Raymond holds a PhD in philosophy, which qualifies him to write pop fiction but not much else. His home is in a river valley of Western Pennsylvania.
Outside of reading and writing, he loves to spend time with his family in the woods and wilds or the city streets.
You can also check out his Steel City Heroes saga and fast-paced thrillers, The Jack Carson Stories (beginning with The Devil's Due).
Better than the first one, a bit slower, but I enjoyed it.
The whole plot against Adrien is getting interesting, although the highlight for me was Parker and his 'Houdini moment' at the factory, after his meeting with Ramsay Bolton Alexandra.
Zeke and Hannah finally have some allies, and Sal is just there, untrained and doing nothing... which is a shame!
This second audiobook in the series is even better than the first, giving more detail and history of the world while still moving the story forward and creating a tale that keeps you totally enthralled. Hannah continues to develop her skills and meets some interesting people along the way. They begin to recruit for the upcoming confrontation with the Duke and we see more of what the Duke has planned, as well as the horror of his factory. Sal is still growing and I am sure that he will play a bigger role in the future as he has the potential to be such a great character. There are scenes that have your heart racing and others that make you laugh out loud and the narrator does a brilliant job of capturing all the nuances with her voice and giving life to the excellent characters the authors have created. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
I received this book from the author/editor/narrator of my free will for an honest review.
and if you haven't picked up this series yet... ehat are you waiting for. I'm in love with it, this second book is so fluid with the first one that I was like yes we are progressing more into the plot and wao that plot is on fire I can't wait to know more about what is happening, I can sense the battle coming to our heroes doorstep and want to know in what it will end.
the characters continues to amaze me it's like having a friend that is telling you their story.
other thing that made my day it's the easy way you can be in sync with the narrator it's awesome, definitely a pick up for your library.
I am still very brand new to the Kurtherian books. In fact, this is only the 2nd book I have read. I think I may have to dive in from the beginning eventually so I can get the whole experience, but first I will need to finish this particular series because I am hooked! The first book I was given as a review copy, but I think I am on my own for the rest. The cheapest way I could find to get the 2nd audiobook was to buy the kindle version and the audiobook version. I like that I can Whispersync to the kindle version, so I can read before bed. I am actually glad to be given this as a choice. It is very convenient. Hannah is beginning to get a handle on her magic. She is still learning, but she really is starting to understand how to control her abilities. This book lead us further into the back story of Ezekiel and how he became “The Founder.” We get to see how truly evil Adrien and some of his minions are… especially Alexandra – she is really crazy! Wow. With the way things are going so far, I find it hard to believe Ezekiel didn’t realize the evil that was in Adrian long ago. I am curious what made him so diabolical. Hannah is really a great character. She seems so real to me. She has this attitude that I just love! She will listen and try to follow what Ezekiel tells her, but then ends up doing her own thing anyway, which sometimes can be quite hilarious. Parker is also a memorable character. He is such a good person and really stands up for what is right. I don’t know how he manages to put himself in the situations he gets into and even more – how he gets out of them! There was one point, about maybe an hour away from the end when I was driving home from work, that I had to pause the book because I got too involved and felt too stressed out to listen anymore! I waited until I got home so I could pace around my kitchen – much safer than driving!! It really is a great book! So many twists and turns. I can’t say enough good things about Kate Rudd as a narrator! I want to continue to listen to her for a long time! She really brings these characters alive.
I didn't think it possible for this series to get even better, but this book proves it!
I absolutely love the way that, despite learning just how powerful, Hannah will be, with practice, she doesn't let that go to her head.
In fact, this just makes her more passionate about finding justice, not only for her family, but for everyone that Adrien has twisted, tortured, and killed, in his need for absolute power!
I love, too, that she's not perfect, that she's prone to the same mistakes, the same blindness to other people's points of view - in fact, just how very human she is!
This book is a real powerhouse of emotion, and Hannah is having to deal with so many rapid changes, to her gift of magic, her circumstances, and even Sal's changes, that were forged the day she discovered her magic.
There was a lot of darkness to this book, but a necessary one, as it tries to show just what depths Adrien is willing go to, and how willing he is to kill anyone, to make his dreadful plan work.
But Ezekiel and Hannah, at last, are gathering people around them. People who, like them, can't abide injustice to flourish, without doing something about it.
I can't imagine how they will go about this, but am eager to learn more, in the next book of this amazing series: Rebellion.
This review is for the first 5 books in the series. I tried to avoid spoilers.
It seems like there is no end to the flood of book series popping up in the Kurtherian universe. It has become a bit of a franchise actually. That’s not a bad thing in itself as long as quality is maintained. So far it has…more or less. The books, the ones that I have read at least, has been of varying quality that has to be said. However, the lowest rating I have given has been three stars with most of them in the four to five star range. The five star books have mostly been the ones written by Michael Anderle himself though.
This book series is another one of those “co-written” by some other author and Michael Anderle. Now I am pretty sure that Michael has had more of a consultant role than doing any actual writing. C.M. Raymond has been doing a pretty good job though.
The books series takes place in a time period after The Queen Bitch left Earth, for the second time, and Earth finally managed to screw up big time. So the world is now a post apocalyptic one with only remnants of science left. A medieval society with nanocyte-induced magic in it.
I quite like the story. The foundation is not really that original. Heroin discovers that she has magic, mysterious man pops up, tells her she is “special”, tutors her. Add a few weird new friends and of course a big bad guy with a diabolical plan, a wee bit of romance and we’re ready to go.
What makes the story a bit above the average thirteen on a dozen such stories is pretty good writing, some nice twists and a fairly interesting connection to the rest of the Kurtherian universe. One that gives plenty of opportunities for development in various directions.
As for the characters, they are quite likable. I do like the heroin. She goes through quite some development at a balanced pace. There’s her old mentor of course, a grumpy dwarf and a few other characters that makes for a quite merry team. Oh, and there is a quite cute little dragon as well of course. Did I say little? On second thought scratch the little part.
The first four books in the series are part of an overall story arc against the main bad guy introduced in the first book in the series. The fifth book hints at the first four being just a bit of warm up for our heroin and that an altogether new story arc with a much bigger and “badder” foe is starting. That doesn’t stop Hanna and her odd band of merry friends to solve a little side story on the way though.
Bottom line, it is fun books to read. It is fairly light reading but still, quite enjoyable.
Oh, one last thing. Should you happen to be the lucky owner of a dragon do NOT feed it coffee!
Very good! This is better than the first one. We see more of Parker and the trouble he gets into. Parker is really great and innovative. Hannah sneaks into the academy and becomes friends with Gregory. Hannah keeps training and in the end, she manages to have a very strong moment with Parker when they reunite. I consider that the finale in this book and it was really well written. I wish Sal played a bigger role. The book is pretty good, but I don't think I would re-read it, since some parts were just boring.
As usual with any of the Kurtherian Gambit Series, this one grabs you from the beginning and takes you from Laughing to Hoping for the Underdog. I don't know if it's planned for Sal to become more of a Familiar or not, but personally think would be a great way to go. I'm sorry that I can't remember the name of the character that just escaped from the factory (memory issues from stroke) but with Hannah using so much Etheric to heal him, awaken magic in him!
The magic is back! I liked how this book went into a little more detail about how the town/world has been reshaped over time by magic and those who use it. I love how it switches between dozens of characters to provide a wealth of variety in the views of what's going on both inside the city and out. There's something at work, and we're finally getting a taste of what it is and how it will change the world of the story once more.
Reawakening: The Rise of Magic, Book 2 my second read/listen from author C.M. Raymond picks up where Book 1 left off. I love this incredible amazing story, the personality of the characters and the voice inflections of the narrator. Well developed characters, a story line that grew on you as you continued until you couldn’t wait to read the finish. I'll be reading more by this author when I buy more of his books. I’m sure that author C.M. Raymond has more good writing waiting in the wings!
A great contribution to a great new chapter in the Kurtherian universe!
I am totally enjoying The Rise of Magic. Our Hannah is maturing and her skill with magic is growing. Will she be able to amass a team capable of freeing Arcadia?
Join the next chapter of the adventure to liberate her home and stop the building evil?
I can't wait for the next installment in The Rise of Magic!
It is 2018 and I am ecstatic that there are more books in this series; I thought there were only two books. Characters that you care about and cheer for (or hate and want to institutionalize), settings that are vivid, and a story and plot that leaves you panting for more; these await armchair adventurers who love well told tales. Enjoy!
Hannah trains hard and gains power in all disciplines of magic. She got some revenge, but the main problem continues to exist. She and Ezekiel pose as nobles to gain entrance into the magic academy. Hilarity ensures as smart mouth Hannah, a low born, learns to pass as a noble born lady. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
I thought the first book in the series was very much about setting the scene. The author tried to include lots of information but, apart from a few minor incidents, very little happened. The final chapter seemed to suggest the action was about to start and the second book would be far more dynamic.
Unfortunately, this book started by recapping much of the first book and then fell into a pattern of minor incidents, while Hannah and Ezekiel continue to prepare for the ‘big confrontation’ but not really doing anything. Then the author introduced Hadley and with the prospect of a boring romance I was ready to give up.
However, the story does pick up and there are more incidents, but it really felt like most of the book was just a collection of incidents, not a coherent whole.
It is probably just me but I felt that this series ‘falls between two stools’. It’s not the ‘kickass’, ‘in your face’, fun, fast moving story like the original Bethany Anne books and it’s certainly not a serious Fantasy.
The first book was great but this one is through the roof amazing!! I rarely find a series I love this much but the Kurtherian Gambit series is just perfect. I cannot wait to go back and read the original arcs.
What a brilliant addition to the KGS. Based far in the future and without technology as we know it, with magic taking its place. The storyline and the writing are inspired.
This series just gets better with each book! The main characters and world are so well described it is like being there yourself rooting them on. I started reading this and couldn't put it down, finished it in one setting. Don't miss out! Great Reading Everyone!!!
This second installment in the Age of Magic series has been just as enjoyable as the first. The authors have created a very imaginative world, set in the future of our world. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
Wait a minute.... It's in this world, just a few centuries later >grin<
This is just as good as Restriction, and has kept my attention and then some. Seeing the characters develop is amazing, though saying good-bye to some was sad. I wonder if Sal will ever have a mate?
The story continues with Hannah and Ezekiel moving forward with their plans and the addition of more characters to enhance the overall storyline. A great story, taking the reader on an adventurous ride. Oh, and Sal is getting a little more exposure, too!
Hannah is over her head again. When you mix her ghetto mouth in nobility circles, trouble is just a breath away. When you are 19, beautiful, and magical, the good fight is at every turn.
I was skeptical about a magic series from the Kurtherian world, but really it stands on its own feet. The characters are so engaging. It’s fun to watch the people learn. The bad guy is horrible. And the heroine is fantastic and loveable and dedicated.
It's only book two and I'm in love with the series. The combination of Raymond, Barbant and Anderle is magical on its own. The characters are either lovable or easy to hate. The story grabs you and pulls you in. Enjoy
Too black and white I only got half-way through. It was just too black and white and the characters were too shallow. Some of the things people did just didn't make any sense.
