The Orcs Domain #4-6

Die Orks - Die Rückkehr

Rate this book

I had such high hopes for this book and I clung onto them for as long as I could before anger and disappointment took over right at the end!

This is the 5th book by the author that Ive read and every one is marred by the same issues. The story is well told and the characters well built and believable. The problems however are thus:

1. There are a lot of story devices introduced throughout the book that after 800 pages turn out to be pivotal pieces of the story which last about 1 paragraph and feel almost totally wasted.

2. There are a few bits of story which just aren't believable (even if it is a fantasy novel). The thing I love about well written fantasy is that you can get so engrossed in it that you forget it's all made up species, but when a faun apparently climbs trees with its hooves that's just a step too far!

3. Whilst this book doesn't suffer the exact same proof reading issues that ruined the quicksilver trilogy for me, it does have some of its own. Most notably the fact that a character in a key plot line (one of those from point 1 above) manages to have their name completely swapped with an already deceased character in the final chapter of the book!

This is a decent story which fantasy fans will likely enjoy, but it's far from a shining example of the genre!

I will keep it simple if you liked the first 3 you will like the second 3. All the violence and adventure you want. Would recommend.

The story starts off great though it is a shame a character is brought back that died in the first book. I think she adds no value to the book yet she is an essential character in this story which made me weary to finish the book.

The last book of this trilogy was the biggest annoyance to read. Everything happens so fast but nothing happens. The end is rather a let down and not that well done.

The first 2 books are good but the last part is what makes this trilogy bittersweet.

Bland characters, weird story, jerky pacing. First book is better.
