Another Haunting Investigation for the Gulf Coast Paranormal Team!
When Cassidy begins painting her visions, she has no idea that she actually opens a door to the past. And behind that door are ghosts, ghosts that want to be seen and remembered. As the rookie member of the Gulf Coast Paranormal investigation team, Cassidy is eager to prove she has the skills required to make the cut, but will her eagerness to fit in place the team in supernatural danger? When a new client hires GCP to settle the spirits in the Crescent Theater, Midas, Sierra, Joshua and Cassidy are put to the test. Will a century-old tragedy force the new owner to shutter the doors forever?
This is Book 2 in the Gulf Coast Paranormal Series. It follows a somewhat formulaic ghost story haunt, where the setting is a theater that is being visited by two performers involved in a murder. One performer's greatest desire is to perform one last time, while the other performer just wants to prevent the performance. The novel is not a perfect tale, but there are some truly horrifying gut-punch jumpscares, which will always get a bump in the rating from me. The first of the Gulf Coast stories wasn’t that great, but this one is way better. Still, it maintains a narrative structure that I don’t love (first person point of view changes with every chapter ala Dracula but with less ability in the writer not a knock because few are as good as Stoker), but a great slant on an old trope. 4 stars.
The second volume of Gulf Coast Paranormal continues to capture the same magic as the first. Even as the group considers tackling a haunted theater, Cassidy begins to paint visions of a new spectral woman. Unfortunately, she paints the image into a mural in the apartment of two of her Gulf Coast Paranormal colleagues with frightening results.
The woman from the image appears to be a ghost in the Crescent Theater who is determined to have her time in the spotlight. As the mystery unfolds, M.L. Bullock once again uses Cassidy’s visions to see into the past permitting Bullock to let the reader learn what originally happened even as the paranormal investigators try to deal with the spirits that resulted from the long-ago tragedy.
Both storylines were intensely interesting, but it continues to be the interactions between the investigators that pushes this series over the top. Sarah continues to cause trouble even after she leaves the group, while the problems between Sierra and her husband spiral out to interfere with the investigations. All of this, plus the budding romance between Midas and Cassidy, combine to make the cast of characters feel very real which of course makes the reader care much more about them.
Ultimately, however, this novel rises on the strength of its ghost story, which once again lifts the tale high up above the rafters.
Although this is the second in series, and I haven't read the first, I don't think that's too much of an issue. Still, although there was an option on Bookbub to buy more I decided it was a pass for me. It's first person for multiple POVs and we never get to really immerse in either one or the other. It' s a little unsatisfying as a NA kind of style. Others seem to love it, so I guess I am an outlier here.
It's almost Halloween so I was in the mood for a ghost story. This is exactly that, however, M.L. Bullock seems to be a fan of shows like Ghost Aventures and taken that concept, building a weakish story around it. It was fun while it lasted, but not of a very high standard.
another trip with GCP I enjoyed getting to know the characters more and seeing friendships develop, these are fab reads which I'm enjoying very much not scary just a little creepy in places. off to start book 3 now and I've got the one that started it all the seven sisters to read too
The second of the Gulf Coast Paranormal books focuses again on Midas and Cassidy and the burgeoning romance. This is not the main thrust of the book though, that is very definitely the spooky goings on at the Crescent Theatre.
The format of the story is the same as before - something supernatural happens to a minor player in the prologue. In this case a violinist called Ginger. Then the unfolding of the tale is told through chapters narrated by a different character. Again, the majority of the tale is pushed forward via the means of dialogue which serves to tell us about the character and their interactions with others as well as the "history" behind the haunting.
Cassidy is still painting her visions and this one starts with an ill timed attempt to paint a mural. On retiring to her rooms, we never find out if she ever goes to lunch with her uncle but have to presume she did as he holds the purse strings to her money, Cassidy then has another vision which gives us the name(s) of the haunters. Cue up various standard investigation scenes that are familiar to anyone who has even seen a TV Trailer for Most Haunted or programmes of that ilk before moving rapidly to the cleansing conclusion.
This is a very short story and the last 12% of the e-book is touting for other series by the same author. Very easy to knock this one of your "to read" list in a couple of hours. I would normally knock off stars for this but there is an economy of language used here that does not leave you feeling unfulfilled, the tale spreads itself out at a good fast pace and the jarring continuity errors are less in appearance in this second book. Nothing really ground breaking here but an enjoyable enough tale for a dank December evening.
The Ghosts of the Crescent Theater is the second "Gulf Coast Paranormal" book by ML Bullock. Main characters are seasoned paranormal investigator Midas and rookie Cassidy.
When GCP members Sierra and Josh hire Cassidy to paint a mural in their home, Cassidy instead is compelled to paint a vision. Her artwork of a woman onstage ties in with GCP's newest case, a haunting at the Crescent Theater. In addition to gathering evidence while investigating the theater, GCP is also aided by Cassidy's visions. She is able to relate the story of Estelle Winters, an ambitious young singer who was denied her chance to shine on stage. With paranormal activity ramping up, Cassidy intuits that the team can soothe Estelle's restless spirit by giving her the moment in the spotlight that she had once aspired to.
An interesting story, but not nearly as creepy as the first in the series. I enjoyed seeing Cassidy coming into her own as an investigator and a member of the team. Characters were portrayed well, and the author included a budding romance between Cassidy and Midas, as well as some marital strife between Sierra and Joshua.
Cassidy has a special psyhic gift. As she paints the visions in her mind, she is transported to that place in time, which ends up being the next case for the Gulf Coast Paranormal Investigation Team. Cassidy begins to paint a mural on the wall of a team member’s home, and she is swept away into an uncontrollable painting session. When she looks back at what she has painted, she is shocked to see a strange woman in the mural. As the team begins their next investigation, the mural comes into play as they work at solving a murder mystery that happened many years ago.
Ms. Bullock’s writing captures me every time. I love feeling like I’m on a paranormal investigation along with the rest of the team, and the mrder-mystery kept me turning the pages. The twist in this one was unexpected and well described as was the rest of the story.
Cassidy is a artist. She dreams and then paints what she dreamed. Who knew this was what I would call her psychic ability? Cassidy hooked up with the Gulf Coast Paranormal group on a whim in book 1 and now in book 2 is a bonafide investigator with the group. She is using her paintings as part of the investigation as well. While painting a mural in one of the groups home office she goes into a trance like state and paints a lady singing on a stage. Unbeknownst to her this links to the groups next case, investigating the Crescent Theater. The lady she painted happens to be one of the ghosts haunting the theater. There are several twists and turns to the ghosts story. I really got into the story and it was hard to put it down. I'm ready for book 3!
The Ghosts of Crescent Theater is definitely my favorite of the first two books. I loved the setting of the old theater. This one was pretty creepy and actually kind of scared me a bit. I could see this one as a b-horror movie. I felt like I got to know the characters even better this time around. I love the team dynamic. I also love the relationship that is developing between Cassidy and Midas. I would say you could read this one as a stand alone, but the first one sets up Cassidy's story arc so you probably should read that one first. I definitely recommend it and will be continuing on with the series.
I really liked this one. The characters felt a lot more developed. Plus it felt like the author devoted more time to the story behind the ghosts. I learned a lot more about Estella and her story that I did about Auralia's in book 1. The author didn't seem rushed to get to the end. I think she also did a decent job of creating suspense. There was also a nice balance between the ghosts' story and the paranormal team's story. This one might make me want to continue with the series
I didn't realize that this book was a sequel. There were things in the book that were referenced that I didn't understand but it wasn't enough to make the whole story not make sense. This was a decent ghost story, however I HATED the audiobook. It is narrated by two different people and the both do everyone's voices differently so it is difficult to keep up with who is speaking. I think that if I read this physically I would have had a much better experience. I'm not sure if I want to go back and read the first book now or not.
I am so glad that I found this series! I love paranormal fiction and this series is that and much more. The case of the Crescent Theater was a bit of a mystery and as it unfolds I found myself feeling emphathy for one of the so called bad guys. The slow building relationship between Midas and Cassidy continues to hold my interest as well. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Another great book provided by my kindle unlimited subscription.
A very enjoyable read! I love books about ghosts and the paranormal. The author does not disappoint! The characters are ghost hunters and debunkers but they care across a very tough pair of ghosts haunting an old theater that was recently remodeled and they had to get the ghosts settled before the theater reopened. Well written with plenty of action and a trace of romance to boot! What more could a girl ask for?? Enjoy!
A new paranormal case, this time in a theater. Midas and Cassidy hunt for clues, when a theater actress is harmed. The history of the theater goes a long way back, with back stabbers, liars and thieves. One actress believing she is the star of the show, only to be used and abused and tossed aside. Together Cassidy and Midas unravels the history and the painting to undercover the truth and expose the true killer. Its a cute story, with a bit of romance and a bit of ghost hunting.
I definitely liked this 2nd book more than the 1st. It was nice to see people actually getting scared with ghosts and there being more of a confrontation than just little shadows off to the sides. I was led to believe that Estella was this villainous character, which was actually a great concept. In the end I enjoyed knowing how everything lined out, I enjoyed knowing how all of the characters felt with what was happening. Book 3 coming up!
I have read M.L. Bullock before and love her books. This is the second book I've read in this series and I love them. They are short and easy to listen to or read. However, I am finding that there are some lingering questions that are not answered. For example in this one, I wanted to know why did the two women look alike. No explanation. Still, it's a great series and I look forward to reading more of them.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did the first in the series. The dynamics changed, and everything felt off. I went from wanting to learn more about the characters to not caring at all.
I say I won't pick up serials until there all written and out there, then I pick up on another one. So, OK, now I want to know what happens to Cassidy and Midas relationship. I want to know if Cassidy ever finds out what happened to her sister. Bad part is waiting. Waiting. Waiting. I despise the waitng!
Loved this book, I couldn't put it down and that is from someone who rarely finishes books I start. I loved the way each chapter was written from the different characters' perspective, enhancing the storyline. And it has a happy ending that makes you feel good .
Springing off the first tale, this picks up right where The Ghosts Of Kali Oka Road leaves us. With the back stories of the characters established, if still a little vague, this has more time for a meaty story. The alternating POV works well. Again, a novelette that is quick and fun. Not really scary, but certainly spooky.
I downloaded the book from Amazon. I do 't remember reading book 1. I enjoy ML Bullock's books and this one went by fast and I read it in a day. Maybe time could have been spent defining the characters or giving background of book 1. What happened to Cassidy's sister, for example. I will confines reading Ms. Block's books.
I'm enjoying this series immensely. I love the story lines and all the characters. Especially the ghostly ones. These ghostly mysteries are very intriguing and I'm able to read them in one sitting. They definitely hold my attention all the way through.
I liked this one better than the first, but I’ve figured out why everything feels so short and abrupt. These stories are basically novelized tv episodes. Which isn’t a bad thing, but it always makes me want more; more scares, investigative work, etc. I’ll probably work my way through the rest at some point.
Trochę niepokoju, trochę śmiechu i książka zapewniła mi fajny wieczór.
The Ghosts of the Crescent Theater Put on Quite a Show
This author can spin a ghostly tale! The Gulf Coast Paranormal crew is back. Maybe overly hormonal! Seems like their drama overshadows the apparitions on occasion. But the ghost story is solid, and incorporates the players, in some cases in spite of themselves. Looking forward to book three….
