Sarah Mayberry

Sarah Mayberry was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is the middle of three children. From the time that she first “stole” paper from kindergarten and stapled it together to make “books,” Sarah has always wanted to be a writer. In line with this ambition, on graduation from high school she completed a bachelor of arts degree majoring in professional writing, then sat down to write a book. When inspiration didn’t strike, she began to wonder if, perhaps, she needed to live some life first before writing about it.

This still left the burning question of how to pay the rent. She found her way into trade journalism, working off the principle that it was better to write anything for a living than nothing at all. Her time there lead to the opportunity to launch a new decorator magazine for one of Australia’s major retailers, an invaluable and grueling experience that she found very rewarding.

But the opportunity to write fiction for a living soon lured Sarah away. She took up a post as storyliner on Australia’s longest running soap, Neighbours. Over two years she helped plot more than 240 hours of television, as well as writing freelance scripts. She remembers her time with the show very fondly — especially the dirty jokes and laughter around the story table — and still writes scripts on a freelance basis.

In 2003 she relocated to New Zealand for her partner’s work. There Sarah served as storyliner and story editor on the country’s top-rating drama, Shortland Street, before quitting to pursue writing full time.

Sarah picked up a love of romance novels from both her grandmothers, and has submitted manuscripts to Harlequin many times over the years. She credits the invaluable story structuring experience she learned on Neighbours as the key to her eventual success — along with the patience of her fantastic editor, Wanda.

Sarah is revoltingly happy with her partner of twelve years, Chris, who is a talented scriptwriter. Not only does he offer fantastic advice and solutions to writing problems, but he’s also handsome, funny and sexy. When she’s not gushing over him, she loves to read romance and fantasy novels, go to the movies, sew and cook for her friends. She has also become a recent convert to Pilates, which she knows she should do more often.

Another winning series for Tule Publishing.

A woman who thinks the crush she's had since teen years is the man for her...she surprises him on the Bull Riding Tour only to discover... she wasn't his only woman. Tanner, another top rider sees the meltdown and from there is part protector/ part new friend.

These two are thrown together and from the beginning... it all works terrifically well.
She is a strong woman, no whining and he is a man who just sees how wonderful she is. When he needs to have someone in his corner... there she is for better or worse.

We also are treated to learning just what it takes to be a Bull Rider...we are there, handling the ropes, the feel of being in the chute and the power of the bulls.

As I said...a wonderful start of a series.

Love was the beginning, the middle and the end.
I don't know why I'm surprised that I loved this so much. But honestly, it encompassed everything I adore about the romance genre; a couple that grows and contributes equally to a real partnership.😍😍

And as an added a bonus, Tanner was hotter than sin - inside and out.
Tanner Harding knew exactly who he was and what he was worth, and he didn't need to prove it to anyone.

Holy crap! How did I miss a new Sarah Mayberry?!? For three whole months? I am a crappy fan.

Whatever, this story absolutely rocked. Tanner is made of win and Evie is just such a sweetheart. I fell for both pretty much immediately and enjoyed every moment of them getting to know one another. I could gush for thousands of more words, but I'll spare you. Suffice to say that I loved it and would eagerly give away copies on street corners because the world needs more happiness in it.

A note about Steamy: I didn't get an exact count, but there are a handful of explicit sex scenes. They're part of the perfect, though admittedly "romance perfect". It's the middle of my steam tolerance so a good balance of just enough and not too terribly long.

Tule Publishing has introduced a new series the American Extreme Bull Riders Tour and I am already in love with the series. Tanner ( Hard Man ) Harding is our very first bull rider up and what's not to love. Strong, sexy down to earth hard working bull rider with a heart of gold, working his way to the top of this years ranks. Tanners heart of gold is about to come out when he finds himself confronted with Evie; Evie has come all the way from Australia to Tulsa. To surprise her boyfriend and Childhood crush Troy. unfortunately for Evie, though Tanner may have outgrown his days of playing with the buckle bunnies and what they are offering ; Evie's Troy's days are not and Tanner is the one person standing between her and complete humiliation in front of Troy and the current buckle bunny.
Tanner,s big muscular body hiding Evie from Troy, but Tanner gets a front row seat to her humiliation and hurt and his heart goes out to this beautiful women.
When Tanner spots Evie later at a run down motel on the bad side of town he can not stop himself from stopping and checking on her, finding Evie in a horrible run down motel room with a door that will not even lock , he intervenes , he'll he would not want his sister left in such conditions. What he does not expect that all of the hotel rooms would be sold out, being the protector he is though , he insist that she share his room and take the empty bed.
Evie argues against it, Tanner argues with her to accept it and both find themselves fighting a mutual attraction; which f curse you know they cave to!
Evie and Tanner grow comfortable together , but roles of supporter and caretaker in a blink of an eye become reversed and Tanner starts having difficulty accepting help; however as the time for Evie to leave and head back to Australia and vet school grows closer the thought of loosing her hurts more!
Can a bull rider and an Autralian vet student find away to make a relationship work?

Tanner is a bull rider and intent on getting his second buckle, but fate and a bull named Hurricane Habit have other plans. Evie has arrived from Australia to cement her relationship with another bull rider, Troy. Tanner saves her from embarrassment, and she helps Tanner when he gets hurt. Lots of hot sex, drama, and some angst along the way to true love.

This was an easy, enjoyable read, with likeable characters but it certainly won’t be added to my list of Sarah Mayberry favourites, and I don’t think I’ll re-read it. Australian Evie in the US for 2 weeks when she meets rodeo star Tanner. Both start off thinking theirs is only a brief fling. Evie is a young, optimistic and slightly naïve 25 year old who has almost finished her vetinary studies. I really liked Tanner- he is a really decent, humble character. I also found the world of the rodeo circuit interesting. A ‘major’ health event occurs which shifts the focus of their relationship. Can their relationship hold any future with Evie needing to go back to Australia to finish her studies and Tanner with a life very much in the US?
The ‘Major Health Event’ in the book didn’t quite work for me- it was almost as though there was too much going on and the HEA was having to be achieved within a very short time frame (about 2weeks). Also the ending was pure romcom: I did enjoy the epilogue though!

Most of the time, "cookie-cutter" romances are bad. But there are fun shapes too and this book, while not doing anything new, is a cowboy-shaped cookie (yeehaw!). I enjoyed it. And I liked the details about bull-riding.

I’ve read just about all of Ms. Mayberry’s books which is a sign of how much I enjoy he writing but it seemed a while since I had read one of her books. So when I saw Tanner on Kindle, I snatched it right up. Did you ever see the movie The Longest Ride starring Scott Eastwood – great movie by the way? If you have this book kind of has that kind of feel to it.

Tanner Harding is a bull rider on tour. He’s doing pretty where his is doing very well for himself.. He runs into Evie Forrester, a young woman who has flown all the way from Australia to surprise and spend time with her boyfriend. Only turns out said boyfriend doesn’t really see her as girlfriend. She catches him with another woman. Evie wants to turn around and head back to Australia but she has a two way ticket and would lose money if she tried to take an earlier flight, money she doesn’t have. Tanner sees her plight and feels bad for her. Although reluctant, he agrees to drive her to some friends she has in the US.

When Tanner gets hurt, Evie rearranges her plans and takes care of him.

The reason I love this authors books are the people are always such wonderful characters. They are likeable and believable. I’ve been reading a lot of angst filled books this year and while I’ve been enjoying them, Tanner was a breath of fresh air when I needed it. It’s so easy to love both Tanner and Evie as they watch out and then begin to really care for each other.

This one was a bit different in that all her previous books are set in Australia but this is part of a series of books about the American Bull Riders Tour but since they are written by different authors so I’m not sure if I’m going to keep going or not. If they were all written by Sarah Mayberry it wouldn’t even be a question. I’m always ready to read her newest book.

Tanner!!! I am a giant heart eyes emoji right now. Kate Clayborn first put this on my radar and I’m so happy I finally read it and experienced how wonderful it was. Tanner and Evie were such a great grumpy-sunshine pairing, so well suited for one another, and I adored watching how everything came together for them. Especially since she flew all the way from Australia to surprise another man! I admit I had some misgivings about that premise but it didn’t take long for Evie to realize she’d made a big mistake, lick her wounds, and turn her attention to the man who was sharing his hotel room. Tanner is so nice to her right from the start, even if he doesn’t want to admit it LOL.

Tanner is a bull rider and his retina is detached after a bull kicks him in the head. Not only is this a career-ender, it’s not certain he’ll regain his vision and he is temporarily disabled while he recovers from eye surgery. There is some internalized ableism while he makes sense of what happened and figures out what he’ll do next. I can’t say how well this was handled but I did really appreciate the way Evie came alongside him during the recovery.

Character notes: Evie is a 25 year old white Australian getting her Vet Science degree (specializing in rural practice.) Tanner is a 31 year old white American bull rider and AEBR World Title champ. This is set in Tulsa, OK and Current Creek, OK.

CW: detached retina and concussion after kicked by bull, surgery for eye, temporary disability , internalized ableism, unsafe sex, dubious consent , horse red bags but delivers healthy foal, female pejoratives (“knuckle bunny”), alcohol, inebriation, gendered insults, gender essentialism, ableist language, references to old injuries, reference to secondary character who broken leg in two places, lost spleen, and almost lost liver after he was stomped on by a bull (past), reference to past child abuse and neglect (secondary character), reference to friend who died of brain bleed after her horse threw her (past)

I really enjoyed reading the American Extreme Bull Riders series debut. I'm intrigued by the concept of each book being authored by someone different. I think it is going to be so much fun to read about all the different bull riders and it will guarantee they each have a unique voice.

The debut is a strong one. Tanner is an all around good guy who seems to almost always do the right thing. If you love the good guy you will want to pick this up. If you like a bad boy then Tanner might be a little boring for you, but I still think you should give him a try :) He is just so genuine and easily won my heart.

Evie is a great female lead who seems levelheaded and kind, even after the discovery she made at the start of the book. She traveled across the world for what she thought was true love to only end up devastated. She could have been bitter. Yes, she was guarded, but she kept such a great outlook even with the turmoil she was experiencing. Tanner steps in to help, because that just seems to be his way, and finds he needs Evie in his corner just as much as she needs him.

I adored watching the romance develop between Tanner and Evie. It was slow and sweet and when they finally come together you can't help but say "Awe". This was a great series start and a quick read. I'll definitely read the rest of the books in this series.

I'm enjoying this series so much that I went back to get the earlier books and this was the first.

Evie Forrester thought all her dreams had come true when her brother's best friend Troy Jensen finally noticed her at a family wedding and the two of them spent a spectacular night together. Since then the two of them have kept up a sporadic relationship via emails and texts while Evie studies veterinary science in Australia and Troy is a bull-rider on the American Extreme Bull Riders (AEBR) circuit. After college finishes Evie uses her savings to travel to Tulsa to surprise Troy by spending two weeks with him on tour.

Unfortunately Troy remembers their time together a little differently and Evie gets a rude awakening when she arrives at the venue. One of Troy's fellow bull-riders, Tanner Harding, is riding high leading the circuit, thirty-one years old and getting a bit tired of the buckle bunnies, he has the misfortune to be introduced to Evie by the security guard and asked to take her to Troy. Tanner knows that Troy hasn't been faithful to Evie, heck he didn't even know that Troy had a girlfriend, but he is powerless to stop the metaphorical car crash that occurs. Later that day his white knight streak gets a nudge when he sees Evie going into a run-down motel in a bad part of town. Against his better judgement he rescues her and lets her use the second bed in his hotel room (all the hotels being full due to the bull-riding event). But is there any future between a young Australian trainee vet and a seasoned bull-rider based in the USA? And is Evie truly devastated by Troy's betrayal?

I think this is a good indicator of the rest of the series (that I have read), if you like this then I expect you will enjoy the series. Each of the guys is different, but at heart they are all rough, tough cowboys with hot bodies and lots of courage. Tanner is kind-hearted, driven, thoughtful and self-assured - all the things I want in a book boyfriend - and he has an eight-pack!

If you like American sports romances but are getting a little tired of the baseball/ ice-hockey/ American football plots why not give the Extreme Bull Riders a try? Even the descriptions of the events are fascinating.

Looking forward to bringing myself right up to date by reading the second book, Chase.

Sarah Mayberry has this ability to write simply plotted stories and turns them into fantastic romances with deeply layered characters. Tanner is no exception and it's also because of her very likable, real and honest female lead, Evie. The developing relationship between Evie and Tanner is lightning fast but the way it is written a reader would not be hard pressed to think that this happens in real life. The plot device used to keep them in contact was dealt with very quickly, no added drama but just enough to give these two lovebirds time to kind of flesh out their romantic relationship. The sex is hot! That's a given, but the way these two interact with one another is the strong point of the book. Evie and Tanner will definitely stay in readers minds and hearts.

Unknowingly setting herself up for heartbreak when she empties her savings and hops on a flight on the off-chance that the one-night stand with a man she’d known all her life wants her as badly as she wants him, Evie Forrester’s trip to America suddenly seems like a wasted one when it’s clear that Troy Jensen has moved on fully and wholly from her. Her only saving grace is Tanner Harding, another bull rider whose white knight complex insists on taking her in.

Unfortunately, Tanner and Evie weren’t exactly a couple that worked for me, perhaps because the start of this pairing felt too much like an accidental slip into a ‘relationship’ when Tanner was actually a rebound for Evie—for a woman who was hurting for her unrequited love—and Evie was simply someone whom he couldn’t resist. I couldn’t see the draw that brought them together apart from the very obvious physical attraction and Evie’s impulsive naïveté was off-putting at times, particularly with the more worldly Tanner who preferred women like him. It also seemed too easy for Evie, despite all the years of being in love with someone else, to shrug off the heartbreak and fall for Tanner in a matter of days because he’d been good to her, so she did seem emotionally flaky, and well, too needy for my liking.

I do like Sarah Mayberry’s writing however and that’s primarily the reason I requested for this book. Normally I expect heart-wrenching moments with every Mayberry book, but in this case oddly enough, the bull-riding scenes provided me more wide-eyed-wonder moments that had scarce little to do with the romance. From the looks of it, I probably wouldn’t continue with this series and that has more to do with the series not being one I could see myself getting into rather than Mayberry’s assured writing.

TANNER is the first book in a new alternate-writers series from Tule Publishing, called American Extreme Bull Riders Tour – and this first instalment is written by Australian romance author (and one of my fave-of-faves!) Sarah Mayberry.

Now, cowboys are not really my thing. Every romance reader has their trope-of-choice; and cowboys just aren’t mine. My bestie is all about the ice-hockey players, while I’m more of a Scotsman in a kilt kinda gal … but the whole Western Romance/Cowboys/Bullriders thing has just never been on my radar. Until now.

The series starts out with 25-year-old naïve Evie, flying all the way from her family’s farm in Australia to Tulsa in America, to be with her long-distance boyfriend (and childhood crush) Troy, on the last 2 weeks of his Extreme Bull Riders circuit tour. But when Evie arrives she’s met with the shocking realisation that Troy hasn’t been anywhere near as invested in their relationship as she was – and has in fact been bedding buckle bunnies for the months that Evie was pining for him and planning her grand-gesture surprise arrival.

The one person to witness the full-force of Evie’s uncovered betrayal is Troy’s opponent on the tour, Tanner ‘Hard Man’ Harding – a famous Bull Rider tipped to win this circuit. Against his better judgement, Tanner is moved by Evie’s plight – and impressed with her stoicism in the light of such betrayal. He rescues Evie from a seedy motel, and insists she take the spare bed in his Hilton hotel room – and stay with him for the few days it takes her to sort out a plan for the two weeks she’s stuck in America on a non-refundable plane ticket.

But pretty soon Evie is forgetting all about Troy and her heartbreak; so focused on the kindness and gruff compassion of Tanner, not to mention an impressive body crafted from years on the Riding circuit. Tanner, for his part, quickly becomes infatuated with Evie – her iron-will, and sweet disposition – and the two of them fall into an intense and loving fling that only grows stronger when an accident forges a friendship in the fires of tragic circumstances.

There was a small silence, but as he climbed back into bed she blew her nose. Not a delicate little lady honk, either.
“Thank you.” Her voice was thick with tears. “Sorry if I’m keeping you awake. I think it’ll pass soon.”
“Don’t apologize for having your heart broken,” he said.
Troy was the one who should be apologizing. Tanner had no problem with anyone taking pleasure where they found it, but trying to have a bet each way struck him as being greedy and more than a little selfish. If Troy wanted to play, he shouldn’t have made whatever promises he’d made to Evie, and vice versa.
She blew her nose again, then he heard the sound of her moving around in the bed, changing position.
“I think maybe I came to Tulsa to have my heart broken,” she said very quietly.

Sarah Mayberry’s TANNER is more of what I love from this auto-buy author. Her characters often start out in the trickiest of circumstances – in this case, Evie getting her heart broken by her childhood crush in the first two chapters! – but the strength of Sarah’s romances is how these character get back up again and find their way to happiness in spite of the worst circumstances.

The other thing I love about Sarah Mayberry’s books is that they’re just so darn hot – and TANNER has got to be one of her hottest yet! I said I didn’t like cowboys so much, but Sarah has imbued this hero with a commendable chivalry and tender compassion that’s mouth-wateringly tempting. There were a few times when Tanner could have been seen to come across as He-Man bossy, but when his particular brand of take-charge gruffness was up against Evie’s own iron-will, it only made for a spectacular coupling with a give-take that was so much fun to read!

I’m keen to read more from the American Extreme Bull Riders Tour, even if Sarah isn’t penning the next three … She’s coaxed me over to the Cowboy-Trope side, and has sprinkled this first instalment with enough intriguing characters that I’m now keen to follow their stories (not least among them being Troy, because even though he does something awful to Evie in this book – there’s hints of a dark past that needs addressing before he can open himself up to love!)

Sarah Maybery is one of my favourite, favourite, favourite romance writers – ever! – and TANNER has just made its way onto my Top 5 faves from her list. Which is really saying something!

As I'm sure I've mentioned many times before, I would read anything Sarah Mayberry writes (including the phonebook!) She has an innate way of bringing her characters to life and giving them real-life issues to overcome that leaves me either in need of a box of tissues, or a fan!

I loved the tough-as-nails Tanner with a heart of gold. When he finds down-on-her luck Evie holed up in a flee-bitten hotel after getting dumped by the love of her life, he makes it his mission to ensure she is safe until her flight back to Australia.

Evie gets the shock of a lifetime when she flies halfway around the world to surprise her boyfriend, only to find him in the arms of another woman. Broke and heartbroken, she wanders around a strange city until she finds a room at a dubious hotel.

She gets interrupted from a well-deserved crying jag by the cowboy who witnessed her humiliation. But can she trust the handsome cowboy long enough to arrange her trip home?

Sweet, funny, heart-wrenching, sexy, all are adjectives to describe this book.

I give Tanner 5 lovely kisses!

** Received as and ARC by the Author an exchange for Honest review **

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry is book 1 in the American Extreme Bull Riding Tour series. This was a 4 star read for me and I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Evie has a short break in her studies in Australia to become a vet and decides to fly half-way around the world to surprise her boyfriend at his next bull riding competition. Once she arrives the surprise is on her and she is left alone in a new country with no where to go.

Tanner, the Hard Man, finds himself at the right place at the right time, when Evie enters the back arena of the riding event. He is on his way to the top of his Bull riding career for the second time when he finds himself standing between Evie and the one man she came for, but it's not all hearts and flowers. He doesn't understand why he feels the need to help/ protect Evie at every turn.

A turn of unfortunate events brings Evie and Tanner rescuing each other. Roles are reversed and now it's Evie's turn to help protect Tanner. With only being in the US for two weeks, these two fight their own struggles and feelings, living for today with each other until its time to part ways. However, Tanner is dubbed with a PhD in Stubborn, will his negative trait hinder their chemistry?

Heartbreak and an accident are what keeps pulling Tanner and Evie together in one WILD ride of their lives.

Very well written, feels like your right their with them through it all. A short novel that you don't want to miss out on! Who doesn't love a cowboy?

I'VE MISSED YOU SARAH! It's been too long.

So one of my all-time favorite authors is at it again (seriously, if you haven't read Anticipation, GO READ IT RIGHT NOW and thank me later), with the first in a series she's collaborating with a bunch of different authors to write. Tanner is her entry.

So nice, loyal Evie flies to meet up with Troy, the childhood friend/bull-riding guy of her dreams that she (after a one-night stand) believes is just as into their relationship as she is. And here is the least shocking moment of all: he's not, and when she meets up with him, she catches him sucking face with a buckle-bunny. But turns out the true guy of her dreams is also there for this awful moment: Tanner, Troy's opposite. Tanner and Evie get to know each other thanks to his over-developed hero complex, and thanks to some unfortunate (or fortunate?) circumstances that come up in Tanner's life, they get real REAL close.

This one doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it is still just doggone GOOD. I love the characters, and even appreciate how she doesn't completely villainize Troy. I was seriously rooting for Evie and Tanner, and practically cheered out loud at every major step forward in their relationship.

4 sold stars.

I feel like this book is a bit short, but I like how the character developments and relationship buildups are not sacrificed because of it. The chemistry and connection between Tanner and Evie are present and boy are they strong.

Would 10/10 move across the globe for Tanner/Evie tbh.

This is sooooooooo good. It just takes you on the ride... I don't know how to explain it. But I love the journey when I dived into reading this story. It's so sweet and it make me feel a longing or yearning to be and hv someone like that. This is a quick good enjoyable read!

It must be said that Sarah Mayberry is one of Australia's most talented writers. Yes, she's known for her 'Neighbours' writing talent but it's her romance fiction that I think most adequately displays her talent. That said, Tanner is a brilliant read. End of sentence. It. Just. Was.

Tanner is exactly the man that romance readers dream of and Evie is a wonderful character who is as strong as she is vulnerable, a delightful yet oft difficult combination for writers to master (but Mayberry does seamlessly).

This is the perfect beginning to Tule's American Extreme Bull Riders Tour and if Tanner is anything to go by this is a series to watch!

Mayberry always delivers sweet, lovely contemporary romances. Tanner was no exception.

Tanner was such a sweetheart. I really liked how sweet he was to Evie, and what an all-around stand-up guy he was. He did what needed to be done and didn't complain about it. It was great how he rescued her, but then needed to be rescued in return. It made for a well balanced romance.

Evie was great, too. She was practical and down-to-earth. I really liked that she took responsibility for her part in the Troy fiasco, but she didn't completely let him off the hook, either.

Though they didn't have a lot of time together, their romance was believable. I enjoyed watching them take care of each other and fall in love. My only complaint is the story ended too soon.

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry
American Extreme Bull Riders Tour #1

Going into the story, if you read the blurb, you know that Evie will not get the man of her “dreams” and that Tanner will “rescue” her and that they will more than likely find a HEA BUT the story is so much more than just that. Both Evie and Tanner are wonderful characters with personalities that leapt off the page. Their vigor and vitality, charm and character, humor and humanity, intelligence and so much more made them well rounded individuals that were people I could see myself wanting to get to know better – and – I could easily see why the two of them were attracted to one another. Sure, they seemed clueless at times or had quirks to deal with BUT I liked them and liked their story. I had never read a book by this author but will be looking for more of her books in the future. I can also say that as soon as I finished the book I looked to see what the next book in the series was and when it would come out and immediately requested an ARC to read because this is a series that started well and is one I don’t want to miss a book in.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Tanner by Sarah Mayberry is the first in the American Extreme Bull Riders Tour series, a multi-authored set of romances that looks at the life of rodeo cowboys who participate in this extreme sport – and the women who lasso them in. While the theme of the series isn’t something that normally peaks my interest, I have very much enjoyed all the books I’ve read by this talented author in the past. I trust her to take a new-to-me topic and weave it into an entertaining and sexy romance and she has definitely succeeded here.
