All eyes have been on her since she was born. That came with the territory, being the only daughter of a prestigious and wealthy family. But Alina Prescott was tired of not living her own life, so she took matters into her own hands. Escaping to a new city and starting over, she's finally free.

Or so she thought.

Derrick Williams is focused on one thing -- work. And for good reason too. The last time he was distracted from work, it cost him. Literally. Now he's the new private investigator working for the Prescott family, and his first assignment is to find their daughter who ran away. Easy enough. Until she makes him torch all of his personal and professional boundaries.

Their entire relationship is a lie and one person is hellbent on destroying everything they've built together. How long before everything crumbles?

K.S. Marshall

K.S. Marshall is West Coast girl with a heart for Texas, who found herself calling Pittsburgh, PA her home. Having grown up with an avid romance reader for mother, the pull toward the genre was automatic. She enjoys writing complex stories with dark elements that keep her readers on the edge of their seats. Life and love are both complicated and messy and, true to reality, her characters are authentically flawed.

When she's not reading or writing another plot twist, you can find her having impromptu dance parties, eating her weight in tacos, and doing fitness stuff with her friends. She's absolutely crazy over her children and her fur babies, Weston and Lilly. And that Sean guy is pretty cool too.

Whew! This book had me up until the wee hours of the morning. I had to finish it. Nail biting, edge of the seat action. It has a couple of very minor plot-holes that didn't escape this Armchair Detective and you'll have to suspend disbelief for some of the things that happen. Suffice to say, if I was the heroine, they'd be no need for a Book 2. Read It! Highly Recommended. Book 1 of 2.

If you like thrillers/suspense like Kiss the Girls then this is the book for you. The book starts out as a typical love story. Derrick Williams is a private investigator hired to watch out the affluent Prescott family. One day Alina Prescott the youngest child and only daughter in the family decides to leave her life in the spotlight and live a quiet life in a small town. Derrick is reassigned to just watch over Alina but during this time he makes contact with her and they both fall madly in love with each other. Once Alina learns of Derrick's true reasons for being in her life and secrets from his past they end the relationship. The book then takes on a dark turn when Alina is kidnapped by someone obsessed with her. The last half of the book will have you on the edge of your seat and uncomfortable because of the things that Alina has to do to stay alive. The author doesn't sugarcoat Alina's treatment in captivity and the book ends on a cliffhanger where Alina's fate is ambiguous. I highly recommend this book if your looking for action, romance and a thriller in one book. I can't wait to read part 2.

Wow! What can I say about this book? This is not the first book I've read by this author, in fact, I read her debut novel The Incidental Affair and loved it as well! K.S. Marshall has easily become one of my favorite romance authors, she hooked me from the very beginning!

Alina comes from a prominent family. Growing up she has been in the spotlight and groomed to her mother's specifications. She must act a certain way, she dates who her mother wants her to date, she must always act like a lady. Wear this. Talk like that. Yada-yada-yada (I mean come on!). It get's to be oppressive, and one night she runs away.

Derrik is running from his past and has been hired as a private investigator for the Prescott family to look into the family itself to find anything that could potentially harm Thomas (Alina's father) during the race for Mayor, but with Alina's runaway stunt, Derrik is now on a mission to bring her home. So begins our little love story!

Ah! Such a romantic book! But you know...it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies. There's always gotta be that one PERSON that FUCKS EVERYTHING UP! Actually, there are two people, and just thinking about it makes me want to bash something. Although...Derrik does that a lot for me. He is such a perfect gentleman!

I thought I was going to receive my happy ending, but with all duets, there is always a cliff hanger, always a twist, always something to snatch that HEA (happily ever after) away from my grabby little hands.

I can't wait for the second book, because there is still so much I want -NO- need to know!

K.S. Marshall wow'd me again, and I hope she wow's you too. The characters were believable, the sex scenes were on point (fans self) and just over-all the entire book was just a neat little bundle of joy.

I accepted an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

*spoiler FREE*

This was a slow burner. Full and in depth character development, building up the relationship between them, then BAM! Straight over the edge into a whole new scenario that made my heart stop, and me jolting upright in my seat. I had my suspicions about one of the characters thoughts and feelings but I did not expect that! Well done, not much takes me by surprise like that anymore. I had sort of built myself up for a sweet romance with some tears and a few hot scenes, of which had me fanning myself. I did not expect to be thrown completely off track and into something darker. Some great twists and turns and a chilling ending. Wow. Is it wrong to want to see more of the bad guy? I dont think so, bring on book 2 its going on the one-click list!

I had the opportunity to read this as a beta copy for an honest review. This was my first KS Marshall read.

I won't give away the plot by posting spoilers however I will tell you the blend of romance, sex and suspense was awe inspiring. Never have I read a book that kept me on the edge of my seat with all the twists KS Marshall wove in while also falling in love with the main character. The dynamics between the characters in this book were realistic. I suggest anyone that likes suspense with their romance pick this book up.

Great Story

I really enjoyed Alina and Derrick's story. I love mystery/thrillers, so this was a great story. Alina was a little too trusting and there were some things that she should have questioned. I'm looking forward to Part Two.

This was the First Book I read from K.S. Marshall, I got to read this as a ARC and I was so happy to! Now I sit here not so patiently waiting for the follow up! IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD.

This book is a wonderfully captivating read, The characters are well rounded, you can't help but get caught up in their stories, love and life. This book is so addicting and every time you try to put it down it leaves you wanting more. I seriously couldn't put this book!!!

The story line is well thought out and flowed effortlessly through the pages. The love scenes were passionate and steamy to the right degree, the drama in the book was just the right amount to give you heart ache but then hope. Honestly for a darker romance it was perfect its a must read again.

I strongly recommend this book to everyone and look forward to the follow up. I don't want to give anything away here so one click this bad boy, you wont regret it!

It is very refreshing to find a story that isn't the same old love stories that have been retold time and again. Derrick is a private eye with his own dark secrets but he is a hero after my heart. He is a great guy that makes some questionable choices, but who doesn't?! Alina is a rich girl who has had it with the pressures put on her by her family and those around her. Derrick is sent to find her and bring her home. I was drawn to it just based on this story line. With an abduction a crazy ex and a psycho killer, what more could a romantic suspense reader want!?!
I felt like this book could have been two separate books but the reader in me was glad it wasn't because I hate waiting for the next book to come out in the series. Just when the book was wrapping up and life is happy and things are good. BAM! The end will leave you slack-jawed and wanting to know more. I can't wait to read the 2nd book in this series.
KS Marshall has done a good job with this book. I can see her developing as a writer and am excited to see what she comes up with next.

I want to start by saying that this is the first book I've read from K.S. Marshall, and it won't be my last as I patiently/having anxiety attacks wait for second book to this series.

Right from the start this book had me hooked! Just by the prologue, it had my heart racing. So excited I had to stop and shared with my partner and kids.
This story has everything, steamy sexy scenes, plot twist so crazy it will blow your mind. The thrilling suspense will have your heart beating so fast you'll feel like you're right there with her.
No spoilers here. Trust me this book is amazing, I truly recommend this read, this author. She's an exceptional author/ writer. You will easily get to know the characters, fall in love with their love. I can't wait for more. Following/ stalking for updates. Hands down the best read.

This is the second novel from K.S Marshall, I received an ARC from the author for an impartial review, but plan to purchase as I believe in supporting indie authors and do not feel good about reading someone's hard work for free, especially if I enjoyed it. Having read her first novel as well, I was excited to read this one and I was not dissappointed. If you enjoyed the erotic sex scenes in her first book, then you're in for a real treat - there's even more in this one, and K.S does not hold back! I feel the author's writing is improving. She builds tension in a way that keeps you wondering and has a strong female lead. I always find her male protagonist's thoughts refreshing and unique. This is a fantasy novel with characters who are realistic and vivid and it's easy to care about them. This is the perfect summer read! Pick up your copy for the beach!

First, I'm not a fan of the book's cover. But hey, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, remember? Still, I wish it has a book cover that equals the quality of its content. It would be a shame if readers skip on this book because they're seeing it only at face value.

The story is told in alternating perspectives of Derrick and Alina. As I contemplate on it now, there is insta-love in the story! And I never noticed or cared. Weird. I was focused on my suspicions with some of the characters, I lost track of their multiple sex scenes peppered on the first half of the book.

On the other hand, you should not take the warning given by the author lightly. The story is highly graphic, even the traumatic scenes. It is clearly written with adult readers in mind. It may not be for all adult readers as well. I know horrible events will happen but when it got there, as mentally prepared as I am, I was still appalled. Despite that, the unapologetic storytelling of the horrifying events is why I gave this book five stars. Abuse and violence are real, it should never be sugar-coated. It is petrifying. The mental strength the character pulled and portrayed, the recovery, shame, and fear... it is relatable.

I appreciate Derrick taking the role of being Alina's emotional and moral support throughout their story. Losing Her concentrated on Alina's life. I'm anticipating Finding Us would be more about Derrick's. I will definitely read the next book.

This is a great read. From start to finish I was gripped. As I got into the story I found myself at the edge of my seat.

This story is told from two points of view, Derrick and Alina. When Alina runs away from her privileged life Derrick is hired to find her.

I felt as if this was two stories- romance and then suspense towards the end. This combination worked really well in this story. After that ending I’m so glad I’ve got book two sitting in my kindle waiting on me to jump into.

Finding a new author that you like is similar to opening a present, it's a surprise and a delight.
Alina is the daughter of a wealthy privileged wealthy family people may think she has it all but she feels stifled and decides to leave it all behind. Derrick is the PI hired by the family to find her.
It's quite rare for me to like both main characters in a book equally but I really can't pick between Derrick or Alina. Derrick is what I'd call a mans man, he's a tough no nonsense guy but he also has a sweet loving tender side that just needed the right woman to bring it out. Alina is such a sweet girl which you wouldn't normally get with someone from such a wealthy family. I liked how strong she was when dealing with her family.
I enjoyed reading their story where we get to see them fall in love it really was a sweet romance but there is a darker element to the story. The two elements of the story fit together seamlessly and the whole story unfolds at a natural pace.
This is a series so although it doesn't end on a traditional cliffhanger it is a WTH moment. I'll be anxiously waiting in the next one.

Skipped a lot

Couldn't really get into this not sure why. Only read about 20% , the heroine comes from a rich family, seems as though one of the guys in the security detail go to the extreme in protecting her. He treat her like she is a piece of property. One night she runs away, they hire someone to find her. He does, she is using her credit cards, she only went to the next town. Why not empty your bank account, move to the other side of the country or move to a foreign country. Oh she did change her hair color. Maybe I didn't read enough of this, but it was not holding my interest. Sorry

Losing her was a shocking and thrilling 5 star read.
This is my first read from K.S. Marshall and I have to say I loved it. I was pulled right in and I couldn’t put it down until I was done.

Alina Prescott has always been controlled by her family since she was a little girl. She decides to run and be on her own and be free for once in her life. She has a really great neighbor and she is the first real friend Alina has ever had.

Derrick Williams is hired as a private detective by the family. His first job is to find Alina. When Derrick meets Alina there is something about her that pulls him right in. He knows he has to keep his distance and be professional but when Alina pushes his boundaries he finally gives in. These two have quite the hot connection. The only problem is he has a past and a secret that could destroy everything?

When Derrick goes home with Alina for the weekend to attend a party things take some serious twists and turns. When secrets are revealed things come crashing down. Things take an even bigger twist when Alina is taken. Will Derrick find her before it’s too late?

All I can say is wow, also be prepared for some scenes that could be triggers for some. We get so much packed into this great read, Suspense, murder, romance, hot and steamy sex and so much more. And the ending shocked me and creeped me out. I can’t wait to see what's coming in the next book, Finding Us.If your looking for a great suspenseful read with some great twists and turns, 1-click and get started today on this great series.

4.5 stars for this awesome romantic suspense novel!

I really enjoyed this book. By the time I received this arc in exchange for an honest review, I had forgotten all about the synopsis, so reading it was a pleasant surprise. It was exactly what I love in a romance novel. The suspense doesn't happen until the end, but it was so good!

I can definitely feel the relationship between Derrick and Alina as it grows. It progresses naturally and I appreciate that. A lot of authors struggle with having their main characters grow as people and have their relationship develop without it seeming forced.

I will say, however, that one particular phone sex scene seemed very forced. So forced, it was laughable. But that was the only one.

I couldn't read this book fast enough. Once I got to the end, I was shaking with excitement and thankfully I had just received the arc for the second book, which I started immediately. I really enjoy this author's writing and will definitely be reading more of her in the future.

5 Stars!!

Talk about intense! The whole story was good and let’s just say that the last part of it, came out of no where! I really didn’t see that coming. I was enjoying the usual love story scenario, then BAM! I felt like I was reading a different book with that twist! It was a good one too! I felt it gave the book so much more. It brought it up to the next level for me and held my attention even more. It had such a great outcome. After that intense and kind of creepy ending, I’m excited to jump right into Finding Us!

Couldn’t stop reading

I couldn’t stop reading this book. All day while I worked or chasing my son around, I was looking forward to a moment I might get a couple pages in. The characters were easy to relate too, the story was easy to read and follow. The sex scenes could have been more steamy, but overall I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from KS Marshall.

Thought provoking

A young woman trapped and trying to find herself in a world that expects her to render her soul for the family. Grabs you and folds you into her world, her struggles, and small triumphs. Amazed at her inner strength to simply survive her life.
