In 1924, her family moved to Leningrad. From early childhood, Katya loved books and carried this love through her whole life.
Already at school, she tried to write plays, which, together with her friend Vera, the girls acted out. At the same time, she began to write poetry.

Then her first poetry books for children began to appear.
