Thursday Afternoon

Rate this book
I'm just your typical working girl who never mixes business with pleasure. Although some may say my business is all about pleasure. For the past four years, I’ve allowed my profession to define me, distancing myself from family, friends and most of all love. Hating the reflection I see staring back at me in the mirror, I muddle through each day with my heart sealed off like a tomb, until two strangers enter my life.

One teaching me the true meaning of friendship.

The other teaching me the true meaning of love.

She’s everything I’m not.
Humble, loving, and devoting her life to others.
We’re an unlikely duo who are polar opposites, but at the same time so alike.
Never in a million years could I be friends with someone like her...until I was.

Then there’s him.
He’s my Thursday afternoon client.
Just like all the others: handsome, rich and charming…yet so very different.
Trying to overcome a painful past, he seeks out my services as a refuge, only to find that we’re opening our hearts to each other in ways that neither of us could've imagined.
I could never fall in love with someone like him...until I did.
And now I'm finding myself longing for it to be Thursday afternoon all week long.

Ever since I can remember, I've always had a passion for Creative Writing. There's something special about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen--or in today's world a touch of the keyboard. Maybe it all started with the soap opera-level drama I used to script for my Barbie dolls. Plot twists, emotional arcs, surprise twins—it was basically a writer’s room before I even knew what one was. Whatever the spark, storytelling quickly became my favorite way to explore, create, and shake up reality just a little. I love stories that keep me on my toes. The kind that push me outside my comfort zone and introduce me to characters I either want to be friends with... or dramatically argue with in a fictional diner.

I love traveling to scout out new and exciting settings for my books—but nothing beats a peaceful walk in the woods or a seat by the ocean close to home. Turns out, plot twists and inspiration show up just fine with a sea breeze and squirrels.

5 full stars!

"Every time it snows its a new opportunity to experience that beauty once again. Just because that snow gets trampled on and dirty doesn’t mean we’ll never see the pureness in it once more. Life is all about second chances. We’re given them all the time."

Recomendo demaissssss!!!! <3

"Every day is a new beginning. That’s why I love the morning so much—because it’s proof that we’re always given second chances in life."

Okay, so I really don't get why the author doesn't make it perfectly clear in the blurb that this book revolves around a call girl and one of her johns (and no, that is not a spoiler as the heroine reveals her profession in the first chapter). Not that it would've changed anything for me - in fact I found the premise exciting and original, so I would've read it anyway.
I just think it might be a deal breaker for quite a few readers out there, one that should be disclosed.

Moving on...
As much as I was intrigued by the premise and initially thought it was going to be a winner, I'm sad to say that the book wasn't able to hold my attention for long and, in some cases, even aggravated me. Here are some aspects that I found lacking:
- Character depth and development: Simon was nice but rather nondescript (being rich and having a British accent does not make him an interesting person, no matter how much Bree keeps telling me so), Bree was completely wishy-washy when it came to her convictions and she had no pride whatsoever (and don't even get me started on her running away every time things got tough), and not even Jack, Simon's five year old son had me swooning... and I always swoon over cute kids in my romance reads!
- Sexyness: considering this book was kind of centered around sex, well... why wasn't there any actual sex? As in, why did the author feel the need to let the scenes fade to black as soon as there was finally some semblance of action?
- The message: I suppose what was meant to be the moral of the story was to accept who you are, not to let the past dictate your future and to go after your dreams and what makes you happy in life. Right?
The actual message that reached me though was: let the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally, no matter what, as in your family, trample all over you, ignore you for years because they're so ashamed of you, let them emotionally abuse you until you're nothing but a pile of insecurities, BUT do absolutely welcome them back in your willing arms with nothing more than a lackluster "Sorry" on their part once they can be sure you've found yourself a respectable job and a respectable man and aren't such a freaking embarrassment to them anymore. Why don't you? (In case you're wondering: because you're supposed to have a backbone, woman!)

Gah! I finished this book three days ago and I'm still pissed about it.

But hey, I'm trying to be more of an optimist, so I'll be finishing this review on a positive note:
I really liked Sister Hannah and her adorable awkwardness when it came to anything sex-related. And Macy. I liked Macy.

Thursday Afternoon by Beth Rinyu
4.5 stars!!!

“I was fully aware that I was breaking all of my rules, but there was just something different about Thursday Afternoon that had me powerless to stop myself.”

What is it with authors and their incessant ability to make my eyes leak? Seriously though, I love my emotional reads, I thrive on them and they are my favourite kind, I love a good weep with the next person and this one was just perfect. The tears for these characters were born from pure emotion all the while enveloped with one of the most heart-warming love stories. I adored everything about this book. The character connection was on point, the characters, while not perfect were perfect in their own way. This was a romance within a romance, a story of one of the most unlikeliest of friendships, but one of a story where true friends come in who and when you least expect it. I adored everything about it.

“In a matter of seconds the switch had been flipped. Hesitation turned to desire, reservation to eagerness, and regret to contentment. The rain had ended, and that fire I had been trying to ignite all afternoon was finally set ablaze. And as he began to explore every inch of my body, I knew nothing would put it out now.”

Beth Rinyu has a way of taking my breath away with her honest romances, her stories sweep me away and her characters embed themselves into my heart and soul and Bree and Simon did just that. Beth Rinyu’s character connection is always on point and she gives great depth to help the reader form that bond for the journey that she is about to take you on. This was a book I read in one sitting and I couldn’t put it down. The epilogue was fantastic and just put the cherry on top of an already mouth-watering dessert.

Bree was a woman that found herself on hard times when her life fell apart around her. Once upon a time she was a ballerina for the New York ballet until one accident took everything she loved away from her. While her choices were not the best, she did what she had to do to stay in the city she had come to love, her past was full of memories and a place she didn’t want to visit. Putting your faith in the one person who had always been there for you took Bree down the path she found herself on, but it only took a few appointments with her Thursday Afternoon to see that maybe, just maybe there was more to her than she ever thought possible.

“There’s a lovely fresh blanket of snow in your life, and you and only you are in control of who you allow to make those first footprints in it.”

Simon was Mr Thursday Afternoon, a man that had lived through his own tragedy and was struggling to come out the other side. While meeting Bree in these circumstances would never be considered his finest hour, he did what he had to do to protect himself and those he loved. Simon was a man starved of affection and a woman’s touch, he needed companionship and he never thought he would find that from an escort.

“If this was the danger zone and Simon was the enemy, I wasn’t fighting it. He had already captured my body one hundred percent, and each time I was with him, he was taking a little piece of my heart.”

From the first to last word my attention was held throughout as Bree made a friend she never knew she needed and fell in love with someone she never knew she wanted. Both journeys were pivotal lessons for Bree and made her finally broach her past while reconsidering her future. Hannah was an amazing character, one that blindsided me, but one that I adored. Her outlook on life added a different dimension to this story and one that only added colour.

“So yeah, I do compare the two of you, just not in the way you think, and I wonder every day why I couldn’t have met you first.”

Every character had a pivotal part to play, each one different but with so much purpose. Simon was the perfect gentleman, his honesty, his integrity and his inherent ability to see beyond the façade and to get to know the true person underneath. He knew when to tread lightly, he knew when to push, he was a man dealing with his own issues and yet still made room for others. Bree was so cold in the first instance but with each layer Beth Rinyu skilfully peeled away you got to truly understand the woman underneath…troubled and tortured yet inherently selfless with an amazing heart. Sometimes love comes when you least expect, sometimes life puts you through the wringer to make you stronger, but fate works in mysterious ways and perhaps it was just preparing these two for their end destination…each other. Totally and utterly loved it.

“Because if none of this had happened, including your past that you’re trying to forget…I would have never met you.”

Soltei muitos suspiros neste livro. Lindo realmente. Algumas situações que não caíram bem e poderiam ser diferentes.
Mas no geral, gostei!

I think it is not exaggerated to say Beth Rinyu did it again. This is not
the first and I have a feeling it will not be the last time that this author blew my mind.

Basically the Blurb tells the reader everything he needs to know and I honestly refuse to spoiler any more that that.

Such an innocent title for a book that is just bursting with its intensity. There is so much between those pages. And I am sure lovers of Beth Rinyu’s books will love this one too and if you haven’t read a book of her yet… well this is the perfect one to start.

Her writing is amazing and the way she develops her characters is just unique. They are full of feeligs and well developed background that the reader is directly in the middle of the story.

I loved every minute of my journey with these amazing characters and I can not wait to read her next

I've never read a book by this author, so I really didn't know what to expect as I dove into the pages. The whole concept of the book was intriguing ... you've got this female escort/call-girl that (as the blurb states - no spoilers, promise!) falls in love with her Thursday John. I mean client. And before someone jumps their soapbox, I have no problem with that profession, to each their own but let's not sugar coat it - a polished penny is the same as a dirty penny, you know?

As I started to read, I really thought that when I got to know our main character, Bree, that she would be one of two extremes - either she really hated being a paid escort and detested every moment or that she loved what she did and didn't want to give it up. But Bree was neither of those. She was just kinda 'meh' about everything. I was a little surprised. With her lackadaisical outlook on her career, it made the story a little convenient. And by convenient, I mean she didn't have any real hurdles to get over. There wasn't enough conflict, in my mind at least. I won't lie, there was one situation that happened and that added to the story but other than that one struggle, there really wasn't anything else for Bree to overcome. Which is sad. Because it took away some of the depth that Bree could have had with more inner strife or something.

And along those same lines, the story felt really drawn out and sluggish. That could be attributed to the conflict issue that I experienced throughout in the book. It felt like I was trudging up a super steep mountain and every once in a while, I'd find a pretty flower but for the most part, I was just wearing myself out. Or the sluggishness could have come from the characters themselves.

I liked the characters enough but there was just something missing. It didn't feel like there was any real chemistry between Bree and Thursday. There weren't enough sparks. Now, in MY mind, if you're reading a book about a paid escort, you expect some good stuff when it comes to the steamy scenes but I didn't get that. It was a bit ... wah-waaaah ... in my mind. I just wish that there had been more between those two. This book had so much potential but it just didn't ring any bells for me.

This book was about so much more than I had assumed. It was such a pleasant read. Not only was it about love but it was about true friendships, loss, tragedy and self worth. This is my first Beth Rinyu novel. Her writing technique was different however I enjoyed it.
The characters had so many layers their story was so sweet almost pure in a weird way.

Give this book a read you'll be pleasantly surprised!!!

Have you ever had a favourite part of the week you most look forward to? This was the case for Bree and Thursday afternoons when she met up with the gorgeous English gentleman, Simon. Bree had a hard exterior due to her circumstances but he was slowly melting that away.

The thing you need to know about a Beth Rinyu book, they are angsty, and she does it well. Monkey wrenches are throw in all directions to keep you on your toes and for added suspense. Sometimes love is more about being selfless and walking away to benefit the other, than staying and causing upheaval. Bree was a true testament to that.

There were some really sweet characters in this book. Bree was a strong woman that deep down just wanted to be loved unconditionally, like us all. Simon was a sexy single dad that had a hot accent to boot. His greatest asset was his faithfulness and supportive nature. His little boy Jack was adorable. And the one that linked them all together, Sister Hannah. She became a great bestie for Bree. I loved the epilogue and am looking forward to seeing the novella for "Hannah".

Review by Jen Skewes

I really loved this book. I think that it is a little different than what Ms. Rinyu writes and there is one part of this book that was a little unique for me which is what I loved. Thursday Afternoon was a fantastic story that was filled with twist and turns that I did not see coming. A beautiful story about love but also about a friendship that was so different. I loved every minute of this book but it was the surprises that I think made it even better.

When Bree made the decision to become a call girl she hoped that maybe she would still have a relationship with her father and her brother. She soon found out that they weren’t exactly happy about her new career choice. But this is her choice and as long as she needs the money she will continue. She has some very rich high-class clients that she could easily fall for but, this is just a job. She never gets attached to any of them. Until she meets Simon Grace and everything changes.

Simon Grace is sexy and sweet and everything that you could want in a man. When Bree first meets with him things don’t go as they normally do. It seems that maybe Simon is looking for more than just sex from a stranger who he has paid to be with. But regardless of what he is looking for she suddenly finds herself looking forward to her Thursday afternoon appointment.

As they spend more time together they both realize that this is more than just a business relationship. They are falling for each other, but in her line of work they could never happen. They have both had their struggles with love and their past. Can they find a way to be together and be happy?

This book was not just about the love story between Bree and Simon. It was also about the friendship she formed with a woman named Hannah. I am not sure which relationship I loved more. I won’t tell you how she meets Hannah or too much about her but their friendship was one of unconditional love and no judgements at all. Hannah was everything that Bree wasn’t, they were complete opposites but their friendship was just so real and so beautiful to see.

Now Simon was a man that I absolutely loved. There was so much more to this man than what you first see. You wonder why he would need to pay to be with someone but you see why. You begin to understand how his life is and there are times when he just needs some time for himself and well if that is the way he wants to spend it then so be it…lol But it is more than that and hearing his story will just make you love him more. He is sexy, sweet and caring and I loved him.

Bree is a woman who I loved and it did not matter to me what she did for a living. I felt bad for her current family situation but she was a tough and independent girl and I loved her for it.

Once again Beth Rinyu has written a story that captured me from the very beginning to the very end. It is a wonderful love story that is intertwined with a beautiful friendship, both very heart warming to see. There were twists that I never saw coming and completely shocked me, and there wasn’t just one. This story felt real and nothing about the twists felt too over the top. It all flowed perfectly and fit right in with the story. Another great job by Ms. Rinyu.

What can I say about Thursday Afternoon. To me this book is about second chances, forgiveness and unconditional love. All these 3 things still exist in this world even when you think you are stuck in darkness. There is always a rare exists of hope and light.
I did not want to devour this book because then it would end. For me it was like when its raining outside and the window steams up. If you write on the steamed window you can see the word for a while. But then later it disappears with each raindrop. That’s how I felt about these characters.
The heroine as you would have guessed has her own reasons to have chosen her profession. This book is not about a dismal who wants to get out of prostitution. This book is about realisation that nearly every person goes through life at some point in their life. The realisation that they are being so consumed in life. That their losing themselves to their problems/sadness.
Sometimes you need a wakeup call. Sometimes you need to see yourself through other people’s eyes. In this book those eyes were Brea's two clients. I loved how Beth Rinyu tried to challenge typical stereotypes. We all are individuals who at some point in life or everyday even think and label people into stereotypes. Even if we don’t want to admit it. In this book when you read it you will find yourself stereotyping unknowingly. You might think you have guessed what this book is about but you are wrong.
I loved Bree’s other client who was so unconditionally accepting and open minded. I loved the sweet moments Bree shared with the client. I do feel near the end that the client was too good to be true. But that might just be my cynical mind. The client still provoked the emotions out of me that I suppose the author was achieving to do.
Overall after reading this book I felt this warm feeling in my heart and tears in my eyes. Just like how I felt when I watched The notebook. But not as angst as the movie was.
I loved the its your new snow quotes we could all relate to it.

“ Its not crazy this is your new fallen snow
My what?
Remember when you talked about the beginning of a snow storm, and how pure the snow is before anyone tramples on it?
There is a lovely fresh blanket of snow in your life, and you and you only are in control of who you allow to make those first footprints.”
Let this book make its footprint in your heart.
P.s Although this book has a prostitute I would like to point this book is not EROTIC. There is sex but not as descriptive as it would be in an erotic book. It’s more contemporary and romantic.
As I see the characters.

To be really fair, I was not expecting to enjoy this book very much, but I read the blurb and I was intrigued. A story about a call girl who falls in love with one of her clients who happens to be a hot British single dad? Yes, sign me up, please. But as soon as I started the book I was hooked, mostly because of the characters. They were so interesting, I loved them all.

That's not to say that there aren't some issues with the story, because there are. The lack of diversity is something that is bothering me more and more lately, and sometimes I try and overlook that for the sake of the story, but still bugs me. A lot. With that said, there isn't a whole lot to complain about here. I mean, it is a story about a call girl, so if you're judgmental in any way maybe this is not for you.

Now let's talk about the characters; Bree is awesome, even though she did have moments where I wanted to shake her back to her senses, her heart was always in the right place, and I liked that. Simon is incredible, I love single parents stories and he's a huge part of why I enjoyed this book so much. Talk about dream guy! Jack is perfect, I love kids and he was almost to cute to handle, although I do teach little kids so I know there aren't children that perfect all the time, one can only hope, right? Hannah was a great addition to the story, I wish we'd have gotten to see more of her, but what we did get I enjoyed it immensely, so I'm good. Also her friendship with Bree was amazing to read about.

Another thing that I really liked was how there wasn't that much unnecessary drama, which seems to be a recurring theme with contemporary romance. Everything developed in a good pace, I was afraid that since they started their relationship with sex, things would move too quickly after that, I'm so glad that didn't happen.

I'm so happy I decided to pick up this book, it was a nice surprise and I'll definitely look for more from this author.

4.5 stars!!

I was lucky enough to get this book in advance... I finished it last night but I couldn't review it right away because it was super late and not to mention I was ugly crying lol I don't know how Beth does it but she creates such relatable characters and stories that you can't help but become totally involved in their lives and whenever something happens to them, you feel like you are going through those experiences with them.
In the beginning, I won't lie I was a bit apprehensive because I have not read a book that deals with this subject (at least not recently) and usually they are either a hit or a miss... I can say without a doubt that this was a hit for me. I was also scared about how Beth would make their love sound believable based on how they started (not going to spoil anything and just sound cryptic about it lol) but by the end I was rooting for them and praying that Simon and Bree get their HEA <3 I didn't know about Jack's character before I started the book and I was pleasantly surprised (: He made the whole book so much more endearing *sighs* and in the epilogue, he stole my heart with that speech (cue crying again) lol. Also that author's note in the end, HECK YES I want a novella about their daughter; omg Beth, I need more of these people in my life, please!!
Last but not least, HANNAH omg I can't express how much I loved this lady... She is the reason I had to stop reading at like 85-90% mark and had to put away my cereal because I was overwhelmed and crying over that part, and not able to continue. Such a special character and I am so glad Bree found her when she needed her the most.
Oh also, Macy, Bree's dad, Paul and Trey were great characters; her dad and Paul might have made me angry at times but I understood where they were coming from ): A few characters don't deserve a shoutout because they were HORRIBLE human beings and I am glad they got what they deserved in the end. All in all, loved spending my weekend reading this book and I hope we get that novella some day.

Wow wow wow! A hundred wows would not be enough!! This book is amazing! This is one of my favorite authors hands down! There isn't a book she's wrote that I didn't love. But I just keep thinking, "what is the secret?" Her writing is effortless! It just flows. And I think the main difference from Beth and other authors is that she gives us so much dialogue. These characters talk. They have pages on conversation at a time. And I'm beginning to see that that is unique. Beth is a special writer and her characters just read so genuine and real. Every scene I read is believable and relatable in some way. I can't say enough!

Btw I was a bit nervous due to the blurb. I don't read erotic type books. But the love scenes were written so perfectly. Honestly just insinuating what happened or was about to happen. It could not have been better for me. I don't need or want a play by play. I still got all the emotion and feelings without the smut! Perfection!!

P.s. (Pertaining to the authors note at the end) I would love more of these characters! As well as so many more of yours! Could you write about a dozen novellas?

Another home run Beth! Congrats!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book does not release until 6/22/17 but I'm going to tell you my thoughts. Beth has been one author that I absolutely adore. Her stories have such depth in them that you are just drawn in and you won't want to stop until you have read the entire thing. So let's get to Thursday Afternoon now......

Sigh....Where do I even begin?! This book is EVERYTHING that you love in a romance. It hit all of my needs and wants in a romance. Great characters who are strong yet are vulnerable. Ones that are sweet, caring and have a bit of mystery to them. Side characters who you'll adore and absolutely fall in love with.

It all begins with an unlikely friendship that turns out to have hidden meanings and a friendship that starts out unconventional but turns out to be a true love story.

Simon and Bree are my newest favorite book couple and this book has went straight to the top of my favorite of 2017 list.

I would highly recommend this book to any romance lover. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

This story was just what I needed to fall in love with a trio of characters. What an emotional, heartfelt romance that tugged on my very soul. When you meet Bree, you think she's a strong, savvy lady but a little closed off and there is some sort of tragic past she's trying to escape. Simon comes across as a bit reserved but all around nice guy that is ALSO trying to get past some past sorrow. What threw me for a loop was Hannah. I didn't expect her waltzing into the book and stealing my heart. Along with Jack. And Macy. Really...I loved every single character in this story and all of their complicated issues. I laughed with Bree and Hannah. I cried over every twist of fate. I rejoiced over reunions. This story had so much packed into it that took me by surprise that I couldn't put it down. Just a lovely, lovely book.

When I was reading the prologue I was a little nervous I wouldn't like the book. I mean, a nun in a romance book? I'm so glad I didn't give up there because this was a fantastic book and Hannah, the nun, fit in perfect. Bree was an amazing, selfless character and deserved so much more than she had. Simon was so dreamy (omg how old am I?) and the perfect person to come into Bree's life, especially because of his son, Jack. I loved how they healed each other and created a relationship that was loving and honest. Just because you do something "bad" doesn't mean you can't have a normal, beautiful life after. I'm so glad Bree and Simon story had a happy ending, because Bree (and Simon) deserved it.

Thursday Afternoon by Beth Rinyu is on my list of favourite reads for 2017. I went into this book not knowing what to expect as the synopsis gave little away. The author is new to me, but I felt confident about my decision to read this title

What the story is about.
Thursday Afternoon tells the story of Aubree Davis, Simon Grace and Hannah. Simon and Aubrey are from different worlds; the odds of their paths crossing seem highly unlikely. However, Simon’s need to move on from the pain of his past led him to seek Aubree’s services. From that moment, Thursday afternoon took on a new meaning for them both.
Hannah’s dream is to write an erotic romance novel, which is unconventional given her choice of career. She needed ideas to incorporate into her novel, which resulted in her meeting Aubree. Despite their differences, they established a friendship, which would change both their lives in ways they least expected.

My Perspective
The story.
I am not sure I can adequately explain the beauty of this story. Stories like these remind me why I enjoy reading. When I read the prologue, I knew at that moment that this would not be an ordinary story. It provided the perfect balance of romance, humour and intense emotions. Thursday Afternoon is a well-written story, with likeable characters that will keep you engaged to the end. This was more than a romance story. It is a beautiful story of acceptance, forgiveness, unconditional love, friendship and second chances. It showed that sometimes life deals out hard blows, which can either make you or break you, which depends on your inner strength.

Main Characters
Aubree
I admired her for strength and determination. She suffered loss, heartache and pain in the past and as a result closed off her heart to the possibility of love. She had no real friends and because of her career choice, her family had little to with her. I felt her turmoil throughout the story. I could not help but feel empathy for her situation. She knows that her choices were not favourable and therefore was willing to live with the consequences. There are persons who judged her for her choices, especially her family, so it was understandable that she would have a hard time accepting that two strangers appreciated her and saw beyond her profession. A profession which she chose because she thought it best after her dreams were shattered. I enjoyed getting to know the real Aubree. She acted tough, but beneath that façade lay vulnerable soul. She is protective of those she cares about, which was demonstrated in this story. It was a pleasure seeing her gaining a friend she never knew she needed and finding love, which she thought possible.

Hannah
Hannah is an amazing character. Never once did she judge Aubree for her choices. Instead, she helped her to realise that she was destined for better things. She encouraged her to be her best self. She is the perfect example of a true friend. I admired her for her courage, which she demonstrated by through her determination to go against convention to pursue her dreams of becoming a romance novelist.

Simon
There is usually a character one can’t help but fall in love with, Simon was such a character. He is handsome, honest and caring. He is a single father to an adorable four-year-old boy. He too had suffered his share of loss and pain. Searching for companionship without strings, he sought out Aubree for her services. Falling in love was not on his agenda. However, spending with her made him realise that he wanted more from her than just Thursday afternoons. If only he could convince her that she is worthy so much more.
Supporting Cast
I believe no story is worth its salt without a great supporting cast. They each played their role in making this story the gem that it is. My least favourite was Aubree’s boss, Margo. Not only is she a manipulator, she is greedy, selfish and downright evil. She acted as if she cared for her employees, but the only person she cared for was herself.

Romance
I enjoyed the romance. It was sweet, passionate and intense. I loved the pace at which it blossomed. At first, I was wary, as I was not sure how the author would pull it off given the circumstances under which they met. She did an excellent job. What started out as a business connection, became something so much more. It was evident that what Aubree and Simon felt for each other was genuine. They were great together and they brought out the best in each other.

Recommendation
If you love slow burn romance and you enjoy stories that will engage your emotions, then this book is for you.

Emotional roller coaster ride of awesome proportions. I loved Bree and Simon but my very favorite was Hannah. She was such an unlikely choice to become your best friend - that was what made her the perfect one for the role. Amazing character development for each person in the book. Loved the story line right from the very beginning - Thursday afternoon became my favorite time of the week. Having a really hard time writing a review without giving anything away that will spoil your Thursday afternoon adventures SO I guess I'll just say - I LOVED this book. And just wait till you get to the Epilogue!!!!!
I have read all of the books by Beth Rinyu and this one ranks as one of her Best.

This book was not what I was expecting. It was kind of an emotional read! I had some tears in my for everything Aubree was going through. She was definitely at a crossroads in her life. She was holding a lot in. She blamed herself for a lot of thing that were beyond her control. And the way she coped with it may have worked for her in the beginning was starting to crumble for her towards the end. She felt so helpless all the time. And I think that was her her biggest downfall. And one of my biggest struggles with her for me with her character.

Aubree was a very complicated women. She came from a family that I felt gave her everything she wanted and needed. but didn't give her the emotional support that she craved. She grew up thinking her father wanted nothing to do with her because of the death of her mother. That shaped her to be the person she is today. She left the house at a very young age. She latched on to a woman she thought was a mother figure to her and started a life that she could make up here own rules. But in doing that. She lost the most important people to her... her family.

I had mixed feelings with Aubree. I didn't always agree with her reasoning as to why she did the things she did. But she had a big heart and she really went out of her way to help people. Hannah being one of those people.

I absolutely loved Hannah's character in this book! She was such an unlikely friend to Aubree. They were total opposites. But they had the strongest bond. And they understood each other. Hannah helped Aubree step out in a way Aubree never thought she could have. She let her into her world and was finally able to share her struggles. Aubree was so used to hiding her pain about her life. But Hanna helped Aubree... she was truly a good person.

Every time it snows its a new opportunity to experience that beauty once again. Just because that snow gets trampled on and dirty doesn’t mean we’ll never see the pureness in it once more. Life is all about second chances. We’re given them all the time.

I really liked Simon's character. He wasn't the typical client Aubree was use to. Simon went into the whole escort world with a no strings attached emotion. But once he spent more time with Aubree he wanted more. They connect on every level. He really accepted her lifestyle. And still wanted more from her. Aubree had a hard time believing a guy like him would be truly interested in a girl like her with all her baggage and no judgement.

Each new-fallen snow is a second chance to get it right. Thank you for giving me the chance to prove not only to you, but to myself that I’m more than who I once was.

Simon welcomed Aubree into his world no questions asked. (Which to me was a little unbelievable) I wanted just a little bit of drama or questioning about it. I mean... when Jack Simon's son was introduced to Aubree. It was really like nothing. They only knew each other a short while and he just trusted her whole heartedly. I'm mean... given how they met... I think just a little judgement should have been made. Especially with your child.
But, I really loved how Simon was always building up Aubree. He was constantly telling and showing her that she was a good person.

I had a couple of little issue with this book. And it was when Aubree became a nanny. I know she was trying to make a new life for herself. But, it was a little boring. We get an inside view of the day to day life of what it's like to be a nanny. I just needed something to happen. We went from escort to nanny. And it came kind of out of left field. Simon went from sexy Thursday afternoon to workaholic dad. It was a big mind switch. Yes things change. I just wish we had more sexual tension between them. Maybe some slip-ups. Just to keep the sexual momentum going.

Then we have Aubree constant negativity. It was really putting me in a mood. I was becoming aggravated with her. I wanted her to finally see the light and fight for what she wanted. In my opinion... we don't get that. We see her doing the noble thing. But... she still doubts herself. It was hard to read.

And I felt towards the end of this book. It all felt a bit rushed. I really wished we had gotten Simons POV on some of the situation that went on in this book. I would have liked to known what was going through his head.

And the whole Margo thing. Yes we find out what happens to her at the end. I just wished for a little something more. Maybe Aubree could have helped with that. Since she was such a big part in Aubree's life. A little poetic justice!

Overall... I did enjoy this book. I couldn't stop reading it. I would have read it in one sitting if I didn't have to stop so many time because of my kids!... huh... summer! lol

P.S.
I wold love to read more about these characters in a little novella about Hannah!!!

I had mixed feelings at different parts of this book, there's some aspects I adored and others I wasn't really a fan off…

‘Sometimes love is choosing to walk away to benefit the other person even though it hurts like hell, instead of staying just to spare your own feelings.’

Firstly, I loved the unlikely friendship that builds between Hannah and Bree, it's so unconventional and unexpected and yet it ends up encompassing everything that true friendship is about. Hannah is everything Bree always needed in a friend but didn't think she'd ever get after the death of her childhood friend. I love how they never judge each other, they're always kind to one another, and while they're complete opposites in many ways, they're both generous, giving people and that's what makes their friendship so special. Bree brings Hannah out of her comfort zone and shows her how to feel excitement and adventure in the simplest experiences; like the first snow fall, and a girls’ night.

‘Hannah didn't judge me for my bad girl ways, and I didn't judge her for her good girl ones, and maybe that was what true friendship was all about.’

Bree is a high class call girl for elite NYC businessmen and is going through life numb from grief. I admired her so much. The way she handles everything thrown at her with courage and determination, but even better than that, I adore seeing how much she grows and heals in the book. I have to admit, there was an aspect I didn’t like. And that's that after a traumatic incident, there was some victim blaming. While this is possibly done to reflect society views on assault and blame, I think it was done in a way that didn't really portray this.

‘Hannah had created a love story on the pages between the cover, and unbeknownst to her, she had also brought out a different kind of love story in my life. A love that I never thought would be possible again- the love for myself.’

Simon is a really wonderful hero. He's a loving, kind and selfless and this is most clearly shown with how he treats his son, Jack. The relationship they have is truly beautiful. My heart broke so often for him and I adored what a positive person he is, in spite of everything. I also love how he treats Bree, especially that he doesn't judge her for anything in her past and present. I also love how the love story Hannah is writing, mirrors the relationship development between Simon and Bree.

‘Every time it snows it's a new opportunity to experience that beauty once again. Just because that snow gets trampled on and dirty doesn't mean we’ll never see the pureness in it once more.’

While this book isn't quite my cup of tea, I found it to be engaging and with a complex storyline.

I just want to start screaming from the rooftops for every reader to READ THIS BOOK!!! Yes I'm yelling that! Geez every single time Rinyu releases a book they just get better and better. It's no secret that I love her books. One book can gut you, while another has you laughing uncontrollably. Honestly though, Thursday Afternoon had me doing a little of both. I'm not sure I've ever read a storyline as unique as this one. From chapter one Rinyu had my attention. Even if I wondered where the heck this story was going at first. Haha.

I adored every character in Thursday Afternoon and the dynamic they all encompassed. From Bree with the hard exterior, to Hannah the unlikely friend, to Simon with the aching soul, and then adorable Jack. Every single one playing such a pivotal part. My heart literally still melts when I think of sweet Simon and honestly it's been weeks since I finished reading. There's absolutely no way you can't fall in love with him, it's impossible. The author does throw us a few curve balls though, ones I admittedly was yelling at her for. My heart was definetly put through the wringer in her latest novel, but in true Rinyu fashion it was healed.

I'm not one to spoil a story, and I believe everyone should be able to experience this journey for themselves. So do yourself a huge favor and read Thursday Afternoon. I promise you you'll be glad you did. This reader will now not so patiently wait for Beth's next release. Please hurry!!!!

Beth Rinyu is a go to author for me. I have loved all of her books and was thrilled when I received an ARC for an honest review.

The story had my attention from the dedication and I was intrigued throughout the book.

Bree is a call girl who begins a relationship with her Thursday afternoon client, Simon. It is difficult to review as I do not want to give away any of the story, as the reader should experience these wonderful characters through their own eyes.

We meet Hannah, a nun who is writing a book and befriends Bree and asks for her assistance and insight.

It was heartwarming and the message that everyone has a story and deserves a second chance was beautiful.

The words throughout the story are profound. One of my favorites, “Every time it snows it’s a new opportunity to experience that beauty once again. Just because the snow gets trampled on and dirty doesn’t mean we’ll never see the pureness in it once more. Life is all about second chances. We’re given them all the time”

I laughed and cried while reading Thursday Afternoon. Simon and Bree are my new favorite couple. Ms. Rinyu offers a possibility of a future story with one of the characters. I say yes, as I would love to revisit these characters again!

I look forward to Ms. Rinyu’s next release.

There was a depth in this story that really brought the characters to life.
Simon and Bree were totally captivating. Both had elements of their lives that I found myself raising an eyebrow at but that was more through curiosity than anything else, I wanted to see where their journey was going to take them and with this author in charge I knew both them and I were in very safe hands.
Bree had been through so much and not all of it good but with the help of some pretty amazing secondary characters I thought that the woman that she was now after all her anguish was pretty amazing, her reaction to one very painful element of her life had, just went to show that she was ready to carve out a new destiny…take her future back into her own hands.
Simon was far from the finished article, he had been through it’s own hardships but from the minuet he laid his eyes on Bree he had a focus that he was willing to fight tooth and nail for. I adored the way he was with her, the fact that he never judged her, he gave her the freedom to be who she needed to be in a way that was entirely right for her and by doing so I knew that they were right for each other.
Be warned through you may shed a tear or two over someone other than Bree or Simon!

"Every time it snows its a new opportunity to experience that beauty once again. Just because that snow gets trampled on and dirty doesn't mean we'll never see the pureness in it once more. Life is all about second chances. We're given them all the time."

I cannot sing praises loud enough for Beth Rinyu's writing and story telling loud enough! She never fails to fully immerse me in a story, and this one was no exception.

This is a tale of triumph and love and getting a second chance in life and it will keep you on the edge of your seat with twists that you don't see coming. Tears. I had tears of joy and tears of heartbreak. She hit me right in the feels with this one.

But it was also funny and didn't have any lulls that had me bored, it was also clean... fade to black sex scenes, but dang it man. That's just what I needed at the moment. I was in a major book funk, and this story pulled me right of it and sucked me right int to story and I never wanted to leave.

There is just so much I want to say, but I went into this book relatively blind, because well.. I like that and trust Beth to deliver on anything she writes. So, I don't want to give too much away.

Just.. read this.. sigh, I don't think you will regret it and I think you will find a new author to love.

The Good:

It was well written, Jack was adorable and acted like a 4/5 year old (not a 4 year old with a the wisdom of a 90 year old - loathe that), Simon was a great character even if he was a little 'Saint' like. The story itself was good. The way the author wove the different characters to all meet was very cool too.

The 'Bad':

The brother and dad. They wouldn't talk to Bree for years because of her 'career' choice, but as soon as she changes jobs everything is hunky dory... Hmmm... Just doesn't work for me. Their whole family dynamic made me frustrated. Also, the fade to black sex scenes. Really? In a book about a prostitute (because let's not sugar coat it, that's what she was) fading to nothing is lame and annoying. Then there were other cliches that had me rolling my eyes along with the easy out ending. Would I recommend this? Sure, if you're looking for a sweet, cute YA (yet with adult characters) book.

Thursday Afternoon was a fun yet emotional read. Bree has experienced so much loss in her young life. After a tragic accident, she loses her self confidence and feels unworthy of a good life. Her former dance teacher takes advantage of her during the hardest part of her life and hires her as a call girl. Bree shuts down emotionally and closes herself off from others. When she meets her Thursday Afternoon client, Simon Grace, the attraction and connection is undeniable. Simon is everything. He is gorgeous, successful, kind, caring and nonjudgmental. Bree is also introduced to Sister Hannah - an amazing and beautiful soul. They become fast friends and Hannah's friendship means the world to Bree. Both Hannah and Simon see Bree for the beautiful person she is. And through their eyes and with their unending support, Bree is able to find the strength deep down that she needs to start fresh. Sweet story! Loved the epilogue.

Unexpected Surprise

I don't know why I thought this book would be anything less than extraordinary. I have loved all of Beth Rinyu's works I have read. This story speaks out to my heart in so many ways. It's so easy to get lost in mistakes that you cant possibly see the way out from under their weight. I love the use of friendship, romance, and family that guides Bree through her darkness. I managed to not cry through the book, but that doesn't mean I can promise someone else won't. I finished this book in a couple of hours because I couldn't put it down. I recommend you pick it up as well. I'd love for the author to write further about some of the secondary characters too!

This book had so much potential, but unfortunately I think it fell short. It was a great story line, it just lacked.

First off, there was so much inner dialogue it drove me crazy. I could skim through pages and not really lose anything.

Second, this story is based on a girl who has sex for money. In theory you expect to read about that; but in reality sex is skimmed over in this book. This bothered me because she makes a big point to say how she remains emotionless with her clients, but we get no glimpse of how she does this during sex with them. I also would have liked to read how was sex different with Thursday afternoon as compared to the others.

Parts were drawn out, the ending was no surprise.
