Case # 3 of the Karma Incorporated Series.

Karma doesn’t get an off day. Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative. She’s still working nine to five, undercover as Cassidy Hail to deliver some much needed cosmic payback.
Her next target is a big, fat liar.

Lori Kay Biggly, Lori Kay, not Lori by itself. There was another Laurie, but the other Laurie spelled her name with an ‘AU’. To set herself apart she must be called Lori Kay. Kay as in the middle name, not the letter. Her last name was Biggly. Lori Kay Biggly. Maiden name Craig, but she goes by Biggly only. No hyphenation or ‘feministly’ holding on to old last names for this girl. And Lori Kay Biggly was a liar. She lied. She sabotaged others at her work, she manipulated the boss with sexual favors…and she was getting her just desserts. Courtesy of Karma, Inc.

While on the case, Cassandra also has the matter of her own death that she must solve, a goddess that has decided to take a more “hands-on” approach to management and a curious private investigator who she finds it hard to maintain her own lies with. It’s just another day working for Afterlife Corporation.

Between that decision and when she actually finished a book that she believed was good enough to publish, she’s served in the military, worked as a bartender, became a cog in the corporate marketing wheel as a person “that makes things pretty” and has since been laid off too many times to count. She currently writes full-time, but still, continues to “make things pretty” by designing book covers and websites for her fellow authors and bloggers. Gillian lives in New Orleans with her husband, her daughter, and a fat cat named Sushi. Cassidy is on her new case but instead of it being in a new place she's back in the corporate world where her last case ended. This time she's after Lori Kay who has taken the art of being a liar to a whole new level. On her first day at the office, it's clear that Lori Kay deserves all the karma she's about to get it's just up to Cassidy to figure out the perfect way to deliver it. As if a new case with familiar faces isn't enough now she's got a new boss at Karma to deal with, who happens to be more than just any dead boss. She's still in contact with Drake and he may just have figured out the truth about her.

I like Cassidy with each book she just keeps getting better and better as she learns that truth about what really happened to her. I like this connection she has with Drake there is just something about him and it works so well. They have this chemistry, that is sizzling, and I'm curious to see how it's all going to play out.

I couldn't wait to dive right into Liar as soon as it came out and had to start it right away. Another installment of Cassidy to deliver karma to those who are so deserving. I love the concept for a character who deals much needed Karma to change those who are headed down the wrong path. The characters are easy to connect with it's hard not to like Cassidy as she navigates her new life. I really enjoyed the authors writing style she does a great job creating a captivating story. While the novels are short they have all the elements for a brilliant story. I loved this installment and can't wait to read the next one.

Liar by Gillian Zane is the third installment in the Karma Inc. Case Series.
Meet Cassie, employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative.
She´s working undercover in the human world to dish out the proper Karma.
And there´s her new boss, a goddess, who makes her afterlife difficult.
While Cassie works her cases she has a private investigator hired to investigate her own dead.
Liar can be read as stand alone, but for better understanding I recommend to read Cheat and Shark- book one and two- first.
I greatly enjoyed reading this book. Liar is a fun read.
I loved the NOLA series by Gillian Zane and I love her Karma Inc. series too.
5 Stars and Thank you Gillian Zane!

Case 3

The best in the series so far. Beautifully written, the plot moves at a good pace, but it's far from predictable. And may I just say, Gillian Zane, you are an evil tease, write faster!

LIAR is the third book in the Karma Inc. novella series and continues on from where the previous book—SHARK—ended. As with the previous two books, Cassidy spent a small portion of her time working on her current Karma case, but most of the book is focused on her finding out what happened to her in her past life.

I don’t know if this is a continuation error or if I just misunderstood, but I was under the impression that Cassandra had been missing since her disappearance a year ago and that no-one knew what had happened to her. Yes, foul play was suspected, but no-one knew for sure. Here it was sprung on us that her body was in fact found the day after she went missing and she had been brutally murdered. Like I said, maybe I just misunderstood, but as soon as I read that scene my first thought was “Ummm…Wait…What?”.

Moving on, we knew from the previous book that there was something special about Cassidy because she could see through the glamour of a god. In this instalment we learn that there’s at least one other god who is “involved” with her life/afterlife—but we don’t know who—and that she is changing in ways she shouldn’t be.

She spent a lot of time with Drake in this book and they finally take their “relationship” to the next level. She confessed to him who she really is and that she hired him to find out what happened to her. He obviously has some experience with the paranormal because he took her confession extremely well. We know Drake isn’t exactly human, but we still don’t know what he is. I don’t even think he knows what he is; he just knows he’s different.

LIAR is told only in Cassidy’s POV and ends in a cliffhanger. Each book in this series is connected and cannot be read as stand-alones. I don’t know the name of the next book or when it will be released, but I’ll definitely be reading it when it comes out.

Karma Inc. continues with another riveting case for Cassie in "Liar." This time Cassie has a new boss and she is not happy with the change nor are the other employees. Yet, there is nothing she or her friends and do about it and she is also afraid to continue her investigation into her former life.

As Cassie takes on her new assignment, she is back working in the office she previously worked in. Two of her new co-workers are the worse and are trying to set her up for failure. To make matters worse, her new boss gives her an ultimatum to finish up the job by the end of the week. She is once again in contact with Lauren, her BFF from her previous life but there is something about her that is setting her hair on ends.

Drake Greco is still working her case and he seems to be ferreting out more and more about her past as well as her skills. There is something else going on as well. There seems to be a powerful connection between them that cannot be denied. She suspects that getting closer to Drake just might be her downfall but the heart wants what the heart wants even a dead one!

I really enjoyed this edition. Once again Ms. Zane really does a bang up job as meting out justice and karma. There is plenty of intrigue and action but I just wish the books were longer. One thing for surem she really knows how to write cliffhangers.

3.5⭐️

Each episode gets a little better in places, and a little less in others..

Less humour once more[😕]. More Karma justice [YaY].
Still too much waffle and repetition in places.
Less answers that make sense. Way too many questions added, with little to no resolution for any.
More drama and angst. Feels like we’re at the middle, critical part of the story.
Right when things are all going wrong and about to climax.

So, figure the next two will be the parts where answers are finally given, big dramatic expose, followed by the HEA. Supposing it follows the pace and structure that we’ve experienced so far?

It’s not perfect, there are parts I could critique, parts that don’t fit the characters established narratives, seriously in need of a good editing in some places [for my preference at least].
But it’s an awesome story, great entertainment, and has me still hooked to discover the ending. 😉👏

I love this author. She got me with the zombie series and this one is even better, much more room for bitchy humor. I usually don't read a series with cliffhangers until they are complete but these are worth it. One thing you can always expect with this author is when the cliffhanger comes it's going to be big.
