Wilder Irish #2

February Stars

Rate this book
No show, no contest, nothing. Nothing is more important to me than you.

This is the second story in the bestselling, Wilder Irish series.

Ailis Adams couldn't be more dissimilar from Hunter Maxwell. Quiet to his loud, calm to his frantic, bookish to his street smart -- they have no common ground. Except for the fact that Ailis's boyfriend just ran away with Hunter's fiancée. So no one is more surprised than Ailis when a friendship flourishes. The Pat's Pub's resident wallflower discovers she actually enjoys spending time with the bar's gregarious, attention-seeking musician.

When Hunter lands a spot on 'February Stars', his big shot at breaking into the music scene, who better to guide him than his new bestie? She's a sharp businesswoman who grew up on her famous parents' tour bus. Ailis isn't keen to leave her quiet life in Baltimore, but she knows the ins and outs of the biz, and even she grudgingly admits no one will have Hunter's back better than a friend.

However, with one impulsive kiss, everything changes. Ailis's friendly feelings toward Hunter turn to serious lust -- and more. But falling for a musician isn't a good idea. Fame comes with a price, one Ailis isn't sure she's willing to pay. She's already left behind a life on the road once before, in favour of planting roots close to her family, and their beloved pub.

Though, her family will always be there -- and four walls can't love her back... So is home really a place? Or is it where her heart resides -- with her gorgeous bad boy rock star?

The Collins family and their beloved pub is back in a new book, February Stars. Give me just a moment to gush over how much I love, adore, worship the very computer that Mari Carr types on because I want to be her someday when I grow up....there is a reason Mari is a bestselling author and February Stars reaffirms that very title.

Ailis Adams has just been dumped. After six years of devoting her life to her ex she should feel something, anything, but instead she feels nothing. She wonders if that is weird?

Hunter Morgan on the other hand is pissed. Filled with rage and bitterness. You see he happens to be the other half of the unlucky equation in the dump and run. His fiancee skipped out of town and left with Ailis' boyfriend.

When Hunter comes pounding on Ailis' door demanding to see his ex, he didn't expect to make a comrade out of the crappy situation, in fact as he looked back months later he never expected to thank his lucky stars for what happens next.

Ten months later Ailis hadn't moved much further except back in with her family. The trainwreck of her relationship still seemed to haunt both her and Hunter. Sure they actually turned out to be friends, really good friends as the months progressed, but as far as moving on, she just couldn't seem to do it.

A chance encounter out at a night club, running into both of their ex's spurs Hunter to do something crazy. Kissing Ailis, not just a gentle peck, but a full on passionate kiss right in front of them. It had the desired effect and not only made their ex's leave, but it also set off a chain of events and emotions that neither seemed willing to turn their backs on.

When a job opportunity opens up and Ailis has a chance to reach for the stars she doesn't hesitate to bring Hunter on board. Her only insecurity is that his star has the chance to shine brighter. Ailis worries that it may burn her when Hunter realizes he doesn't need her anymore. She actually feels something for Hunter and doesn't want to end up right back where she is now, alone and this time devastated. She has been more alive with him than she has ever been with anyone, but if he didn't want her, could she risk everything and reach for the stars alone?

February Stars is a beautiful story about missed opportunities. A second chance at a new greeting; meeting a love that has been right there before you the entire time, but hidden in plain sight.

The prologue of this book had me thinking that the book would go to a different direction than the one it actually took. That is not a bad thing. I was expecting a heavy story with the possibility of bringing tears to my eyes, but February stars is a light book. A lot of stuff is going on, but the book has a good flow and it makes everything seem like a natural way to process things. I would like to read Ronnie;s story. She is a very nice person and I liked her. She has a story to tell and I want to read it. Ailis and Hunter make a good couple, but they didn't hold my interest as individual characters. I liked Mari Carr's book and this is not an exception, but I didn't love it. I would recommend the book, though not as a way to explore the works of a new to the person author.

The Collins family is truly at the top of the list of families that I want to be a member of. Me marrying into an Irish family I have to say Mari Carr nails the dynamics of how close knit and loyal the Irish are to each other. The second book of the Wilder Irish series is just as wonderful as the stories of the Collins's oldergeneration.

The two dumpees get thrown together when life rears its ugly head at them only to find they were right in front of each other all the time. Once they get over the fear of loving and losing again the quiet, shy girl and the hot, sexy rock star make this story one that never had a chance of falling short.

I can't wait to see what March, along with St Patrick's Day, brings us.

Ailis Adams has been a relationship for six years, when suddenly, she was dumped. Instead of being heart broken, she really feels nothing, which kind of confuses her. Hunter Morgan has a whole different attitude, seriously pissed off, as his fiance left town with Ailis' longtime boyfriend. The rage and bitterness has him banging on Ailis' door wanting to see his runaway fiance, so he wasn't expecting to find the other half to this messed up situation. And not only that, she becomes a confidante, as she honestly knows where he's coming from. We fast forward to see that ten months later, Ailis hasn't moved on at all, although she and Hunter have become super close. It takes one night with an impulsive passionate kiss to change feelings. I have to say that there is so much more to this story, but I had to end with the way I described it in order for no spoilers to appear. The emotional angst is this story is sky high, and there were times where I felt like someone reached into my chest to squeeze my heart. These two people were opposites in the extreme, but that didn't change the fact that I wanted them together. However, when dealing with a man that has been burned, and a rocker on the cusp of fame to boot, things are never simple, and all of my dramatic emotions came out to play, to where at times, I wanted to choke Hunter out. I'm a very new reader of Mari Carr, and her super talented writing style, but you can just call me an addicted NEW FAN! I cannot wait to read more of her work in the immediate future, so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This book is another hit!

Ailis is part of the big Collins clan. Her parents are a singing duo sensation. She and her sister grew up in the road with their parents. Ailis is a very smart girl but she tends to hide in the shadows.
Ailis has been in a relationship with Paul for a long time. Ailis had always been there for Paul, helping him through school (literally doing a lot of his school work for him), teaching him about politics and current events so he can appear smart and insightful. She lives in Paul's shadow until one day when she comes home from work to find a "Dear Ailis" letter. Paul had left her for her best friend, Rhonda.
Ailis is sitting in her apartment, shell-shocked, when there is a pounding on the door. It's Hunter, Paul's best friend and fiance to Rhonda! He came home to find a "Dear Hunter" letter from Rhonda. Rhonda and Paul ran off to Vegas to get married.
Hunter and Ailis were never close. He called Ailis mouse and thought she was meek. Ailish didn't think too highly of Hunter either.
Over time, Ailis and Hunter grow closer and become friends. Through a series of events, their relationship evolves.
This is a sweet story with a drama and a whodunit. There were laughs and awws. I highly recommend this book. Can't wait to read the third book in the series.

**Received ARC for a fair and honest review**
February Stars is the second book in the Wilder Irish series (second generation of the Wild Irish series). Ailis Adams (AKA Mouse) grew up the child of famous parents, constantly on a tour bus with her parents and her sister. Ailis is quiet, introspective, and invisible. When she goes to college she meets Paul, who she thinks she's in love with and settles in Baltimore because of him. When she comes home to a Dear John (or Dear Ailis) letter after six years of being with Paul she's floored. Hunter is outspoken, wild, flies by the seat of his pants. Hunter Morgan is engaged to Rhonda, Ailis best friend and has been best friends with Paul since they were kids. So when he comes home to his John Dear letter, he's enraged. Ailis and Hunter are opposites. But do opposites really attract?
I really enjoyed this book tremendously. It was such a fun, fast, read that was very difficult to put down. If you like hot and steamy, don't worry this book will not disappoint. The characters are very enjoyable, just because Ailis doesn't want to be in the spotlight does not mean she is meek or passive. She's actually a very strong woman and I was pleasantly surprised. Hunter, though wild, is an alpha male, but not to extreme's. The chemistry really works between them well in the book. This book can be easily read as a standalone. The author does a great job of making sure you know who everyone is and where they fit. If you aren't new to this series, you will get to see some of the old characters which I really enjoy. Overall loved this book and can't wait for the next book in the series. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

Five stars.

Mari Carr blows it out of the water with this delicious second book in the Wilder Irish series. Ailis Adams is one of the next generation of Collinses, and when she's unceremoniously dumped, by letter, no less, that's a life changer, no question. When Hunter Morgan, the dumped fiance of the woman her ex ran off with storms into her apartment with a Dear John letter of his own, that's the beginning of an unlikely friendship.

Ms. Carr does a fantastic job with this story--opposites attract, friends to lovers, part of a series with a big, beloved cast... February Stars takes all those and runs with it. Great dialog, excellent characterization, heat and chemistry and a terrific plot.

February Stars stands well on its own, but you'll want to read the rest of the Wilder Irish and the Wild Irish serieses--and pull up a stool at Pat's Pub! You won't want to leave.

I love Mari Carr's writing style and absolutely adore her Wild Irish series. Loving that she is carrying it on with the Wilder series. Ailis and Hunter's story was wonderful. The transformation of Ailis from mouse to lion was beautiful and inspiring. And, watching Hunter change from a one-night-stander to man who was a true romantic at heart was enlightening. Yes , there were characters that you loved to hate but, without them, there really would not have been a story. As family and friends gather round them in support and protection, you can't help but smile at all of your old favorites being back and the wonderful memories from the original series came flooding back as "Maybe Tomorrow" is honored.
Filled with love, some heartache, a little mystery and hot sex and music, February Stars was everything that I thought it would be.

I'm so glad that author Mari Carr is writing stories for the next generation in her Wild Irish series. I really love the Collins family and she once again knocked this one out of the park. I love how she sets up each of these books and any scene with Pop Pop just warms my heart. I loved how Ailis and Hunter's relationship developed from friendship to love. These two both suffered a broken heart at the same time and I enjoyed watching them get over it together, being supportive of one another. This author sure knows how to write sexy and steamy just how I like. Another wonderful addition to the series and I cannot wait to read more.

Since book 1 in this series was a cute, quick listen that didn’t require full attention, I decided to read on in the series … thanks to my local library, this one kept me company while I worked for a few hours.

There’s lots to love here and I’m sure I’ll fail to list them all:

💚Second-chance romance
🧡Huge, close-knit, Irish family
💚Best friend / boyfriend scandal
🧡Low-key fresh-start vibes
💚Friends-to-lovers
🧡Opposites-attract
💚A bit of suspense and action

4 stars.

The narrator’s voice was pleasant enough … for READING. Every time she “sang”, and I use that term loosely, it was as if someone was trying to punish me or something. PAINFUL. Please, stick to talking/reading, yikes.

This was short and sweet with lots of twists.

I enjoyed the rockstar trope and the concept behind Hunter and Ailis becoming a couple and their career development as well. That was a unique storyline and I liked seeing how that played out. I really wanted more depth because everything seemed so short and snappy. One decision would be made and very quickly without much reason another alternative option would be thrown in the ring.

Mari is good at steam and that's definitely why you read these books but I also love the family dynamic and seeing characters from other books in the series and the companion series.

I am so loving author Mari Carr’s Wilder Irish series because I feel so at home with the Collins clan and am pretty sure I have a personalized bar stool at Pat’s Pub. I loved February Stars because two people are brought together because they are hurt by people they love, at the time they aren’t really friends but because of the circumstances they become the best of friends and over time that turns into so much more. These characters were lost at the beginning of this story and over the course of the book they not only found their purpose in life, but each other as well. This story was pure Mari Carr magic; it blended characters from the original series into the next generation seamlessly, it was fun, engaging and sensuously sexy. I loved everything about this book!

Growing up the daughter of major rock stars and living on a tour bus made Ailis crave home and hearth and she thought she had it until her boyfriend of six years dumps her in a note and takes off with her best friend. Ailis is devastated and of course begins to question what she did wrong when her ex-boyfriend’s best friend, Hunter, comes to her door pi$$ed off because his fiancée happens to be her best friend, you know the one that ran off with her ex. It was interesting watching these two go from two people who tolerated each other because of their significant others to commiserating over their broken relationships, to friends, and eventually more.

Ailis has always been a quiet and reserved woman and getting dumped the way she did caused her to really take a long, hard look at her life. She retreated immediately, quit her job and moved to her family’s apartment over the pub where she went to work as a waitress. When her parent’s manager asks for her help with a project and to find a fill in for his February Stars contest, she immediately recommends Hunter her friend and the house singer at Pat’s Pub. Hunter gave up his dream of being a musician when he was engaged to her best friend, who did not support his career, but Ailis knows music and she knows talent and they embark on the task of making Hunter the rock star he is meant to be.

I loved the interplay between these two and that given they were both hurt badly, they were gun shy over getting really involved with anyone again. It was Hunter who began to develop romantic feelings towards Ailis first and he had to work hard to gain her trust. I loved the way these two built one another up, how they had one another’s backs, and their easy relationship. There was really no drama between these two which was so refreshing.

A bit of suspense, a whole lot of Collins love, and two people finding themselves, and one another made February Stars a fantastic romance!

It’s always such a pleasure to read a Mari Carr book, but an even bigger enjoyment to read a Wilder Irish story. The Collins clan is like a family member or a good friend, you want to be around them and grow old with the family. This is how I feel every time I read one of these stories.

Sky and Teagan’s daughter Ailis, is dumped by her longtime boyfriend, he runs off with Hunter’s fiancé, as they come to grips with this life turning event, they become friends. Friendship develops into some more, though she tries to keep her distance. Hunter is all about living in the present, Ailis wants to overly think things through, she is not looking for a relationship after being dumped, not ready to trust again.

Such a great story of love finding you when you least expect it, because it’s been staring you in the face. I love how Ailis learns to stand up for herself and not be in the background, she couldn’t have done it without Hunter’s support. And throughout all of this receiving the support of her family members especially Pop Pop.

Step into Pat’s Pub and have a beer, listen to some music and sit back and watch the family do what they do best…love and support each other.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

OK. So now I am hooked on the Wilder Irish series. In this book, Ailis has been jilted by the man she had been with for 6 years. To make it worse he ran off with her girl friend who was engaged to Hunter. Over the next year Hunter and her become friends as they try to work their way through their disappointment. When she gets Hunter a shot at his dream of being a musician, she sets aside her work at the pub to manage his chance. Hunter wants more than friendship out of Ailis but she doesn't want to go on the road again, like her parents did. Add into the mix someone who is trying to eliminate Hunter's chance at stardom - and maybe Hunter and Ailis too. A good read.

February Stars is the second book in the Wilder Irish series.

This story is about Ailis Adams, the child of Teagan and Sky from the Wild Irish series. She and her sister grew up on a bus, touring the country with their parents. You would think that she would have been a gregarious, outgoing person but instead of being the wild child, she longed for permanence and roots with her large family. Her relationship with Paul was part of that permanence. But when she is dealt a hard blow in that relationship, she vows to find out who she is and where she fits in.

Hunter is the complete opposite of Ailis. He lives for today and is completely open and outgoing and spontaneous. There is no way on earth he and Ailis would ever work as more than friends. He is hit with his own blow and the two who seem to just co-exist because of their respective relationships learn to lean on each other and become friends...sort of. Ailis still doesn't believe he is fit to be anything but a womanizer and she doesn't think she will ever find the kind of love she can trust in. She also realizes that she just wants more...not a perfect vanilla life but surprise, romance, sensuality and passion.

A great opportunity comes their way and gives them each hope for future possible careers. Will this opportunity break them apart or tie them even closer together? This book has intrigue, suspense, close funny family as well as love, passion and steam.

Something about Ailis and Hunter draws you in from the beginning and keeps you there the entire story. I absolutely loved these two and their story was full of everything-heartbreak, desire, discovery, family, love and romance.

Ailis is part of the huge “Collins” clan, but has always been the quiet one. Living on the road with her famous musician parents made her a bit closed off. She sought to be loved and valued and thought she found that in Paul, whom she spent the last 6 years helping build his career. Now she sits, single and wondering who she is and what she has done with her life.

Hunter works for his parents hotel, but deep down he would love to pursue music. It is a dream of his that faded years ago. Occasionally he performs at the Collins families pub, but that is the extent of it. He is settled with his current situation, work, side gig and a new fiancé, Rhonda. Until one day he finds himself single, angry and knocking on Ailis’s door.

These two were destined for the start. There was no denying their connection from friends to lovers. This storyline took us through their journey seamlessly. I loved it. I don’t want to say too much to spoil the good parts, but let me say the sexy time was amazing and I just love her Pop Pop! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I first read Mari Carr in the book One Night in Vegas, as collaboration of short stories with several other authors. I was blown away by her writing and she became of one my favorite authors. I picked up Her Wilder Irish, book 1, and knew I had to continue with this series as it came out.

Ailis Adams and Hunter Maxwell belong to others until one ugly day when they both get Dear John messages. Friends for a while, their dynamitic appeal wasn't present at first. Ailis grew up with musician touring parents and was ready to settle down or so she thought. When that faithful day happened her life as she knew it was going to take a change for the better. Hunter Maxwell was a musician playing in the Collins' family pub. He hoped to break out into show biz and needed that one opening to make it happen. When the opportunity came with a special contest, he pursued it whole heartedly with Ailis by his side. As their love for each other grows, secretly, things become hairy with the contest. Is this what Ailis really wants, it this how Hunter sees his life going. The story will amaze and amuse you. Be sure to one-click this marvelous book.

A bad breakup leads to an unexpected friendship. Ailis's boyfriend and Hunter's fiance run away together, leaving behind a note. Ailis and Hunter console each other, and in the process become best friends.

Ailis is lost. She lost herself in her relationship, then it failed. Now she doesn't know who she is. After years of devoting herself to his wants and needs, and burying herself, she has to now discover who she is and what she wants from life. Hunter also put aside a huge part of who he was while in his relationship. After the relationship ends, he decides to resurrect his music career. As Hunter's friend, Ailis sees an opportunity, and does her best to push him towards it. Spending time together leads to changes in their feelings, but Ailis is scared, and resistant. Hunter definitely has his work cut out for him!

This was a fun story in the Wilder Irish series. I enjoyed the interactions between Hunter and Ailis, and their smoking hot connection! I loved the way they stuck together through everything, despite doubts, and criticisms, and outside influences. Friendship is an amazing basis for a relationship, and these two blew that out of the water!

Okay read.

The framing was compelling, the lead characters were likable and the secondary characters added real charm. The scenes involving the two exes were entertaining, the plot-driven storyline was engaging and the smut wasn't bad.

However, the storytelling was pretty uneven. I really didn't get what the male lead's issue was or why/how he suddenly turned it around and, while I understood the female lead's issue, I didn't get why/how she suddenly turned it around. And, by the end, she again .

A woman being willing to follow a man's lead in the bedroom does not make her 'naturally' submissive. And, once the female lead got comfortable, she was anything but submissive in the bedroom. Nor was she submissive outside of the bedroom at any point. So that added another degree of unevenness to the storytelling.

Birth control was covered but consent was not covered well and safe sex was not covered at all, despite what a manwhore he had become in the past year, adding more unevenness.

Overall, it was below average but not bad.

Ailis Adams and Hunter Morgan have nothing in common, other than the fact that her boyfriend just ran away with his fiancée. They've only known each other through her boyfriend, but they would never be considered friends. At least until the night Hunter comes banging into her apartment looking to beat up her boyfriend. That night leads to an unlikely friendship between them. Ail is decides she needs a complete change to her life so she moves in the family "compound" and quits her job. Flash forward 10 months and Ailis and Hunter have managed to become best friends. Add in an unlikely run in at a nightclub and their friendship moves on to the next level. Hunter becomes a contestant in a singing contest called February Stars. That adds yet another level to their relationship. I love everything about this family, and this story continued with that.

February Stars by Mari Carr is the second book in the Wilder Irish Series.
The wonderful Collins family and their Pub, Cat´s is back. I couldn´t wait to get my hands on this book and I read it in one sitting, I couldn´t put it down.

Meet Ailis Adams, she´s a wallflower in Pat´s Pub. She´s feshly dumped by her boyfriend of 6 years. She´s devastated.
And Hunter Morgan, he´s a musician and his fiancée left him too, with Ailis´ ex-boyfriend. He´s angry and bitter.
Nearly a year later, both are still hurt, but then a job chance shows up for both.

February Stars is a beautiful love story. A book about second chances at love, life and new beginnings. I give 5 stars and recommend the book. Thank you, Mari Carr !

Is it possible for a broken engagement to be the best thing that every happened to you? How about for two people who had their finacees run away with each other? Even though Hunter was Paul's best friend, prior to the broken engagements Ailis didn't really know him. But in the months following they spent time together and Ailis even put her phone number in his contacts under Rachel's name so he wouldn't send drunken messages to Rachel.

This was a fun read seeing how Ailis came into her own over the months following Paul's betrayal and how she helped Hunter with his career. And of course we get plenty of the other Collins looking out for Ailis, although not always in a way that she expects. Love Pop Pop too.

I really enjoyed this book. Hunter might be one of my favorite heroes. Alpha in the bedroom, the sweetest strongest man outside of it. I loved the way their relationship blossomed over a year, moving from companions, to friends to lovers. And I could completely relate to Ailis’ struggle with finding herself, or possibly losing herself.

The only part of this book I struggled with was the ending. It wrapped up a little too quickly and easily for me. It didn’t feel earned. The villain didn’t completely make sense to me, and there certainly weren’t any hints along the way to who it might be. Unfortunately since it was the end of the book, it kind of stuck with me, but not enough to not enjoy the book. Or to not recommend it to others.

This is the second fabulous book in the Wilder Irish series and it features Ailis Adams, Teagan and Sky's daughter, and Hunter Maxwell. These two never took a second look at each other until it was almost too late. They were amazing best friends. As lovers they are even more fabulous but that's when all the doubts hit Ailis. I adore Hunter! When that man is sure of something, there's no changing his mind. He's got his work cut out for him with Ailis.

I am interested to see if Rory Summit will make her way back into this series. Also, can I just say that I WANT A POP POP! He is awesome! I can't wait for the next book in this fantastic series.

Opposites attract or friends to lovers, either one is the trope for this story, but really what it is is a realization of your potential and embracing your inner strength. Both our leads had put the other in a neat box in their mind, and they happily stayed in that box where everyone had put them. That is until life dealt them the same blows, and they bonded over that. As their friendship grew and their hearts mended, so did their awareness of the other outside of that box and more than just a friend. A few more steps were needed before they accepted the inevitable, and they got the HEA they deserved from the start!

Mari Carr does it again. What a wonderful continuation of the Collins family. A lovely story of two people who come together during a low point in their lives, and during their journey out of this point fall in love. Ailis and Hunter capture your heart in their journey to become best friends that help each other become the best person they can be , and figure out that opposites do attract.
