If you’ve ever tried to kill a spider with water, this tale explains why it crawls back up the drain and never seems to die.
Moral: Spiders are tough.
Length: If you can sing the song, you know just how short this book is.
Favorite Line: “Down came the rain and washed poor Itsy out.”
Overall impression: There’s a lot not to like here. First, it’s a book about an arachnid you’re supposed to like. I refuse to. It’s named Itsy here. I always thought that was an adjective and not a name. Second, the spider is purple and smily - which I’ve never recognized as true. Usually they’re black and brown and threatening looking. Third, the finger puppet provides you an opportunity to play spider with your fingers and that’s just gross - especially when your baby is teething and tries to eat the spider. Lastly, this is another Public Domain song being written as a book that brings nothing to the table for me as a reader. Squash this bug (and book).
These tiny little finger puppet books, always bangers. My kid is a MOVER, so anything he can touch and grab is 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 Mom (me) loves critters so of course I was into this one too.
