The author recalls how she met and married Philip Hehmeyer, a charismatic young Southerner who would eventually become president of the New York Cotton Exchange, and entered a world of love, death, seduction, and betrayal
Thoughts: *The author did a good job of explaining Wall Street technical terms like cotton futures. *The protagonist, Sherri, was not very likable. She had huge issues with morals and self-respect . . . and I am usually not a judgy person/reader. I would not want to be the child of this woman. *Phillip, Sherri's love interest, was worse . . . selfish, narcissistic, and thoughtless. *In the end, I was glad to see Sherri found an outlet (sport) to pour some of her energy/frustrations into.
Interesting to find out more about the cotton futures business, but the characters were so despicable, I really couldn’t get into the book. I finished it, but considered it one of those rare occasion where my time was wasted reading.
