Hell's Marshal Frank Butcher and his ragtag posse are back, this time wreaking havoc on the civilized east coast. Sent to bring back John Wilkes Booth and his gang before they can kill the current US President, Frank wrestles with what appears to be his destiny: killing innocent people. Equipped with a new gun that seems to enjoy killing, Frank struggles to keep himself under control. Meanwhile, Booth and his gang traverse his old stomping grounds, plotting to kill the president and re-start the civil war. Frank and his friends--with help from an unlikely place--have to stop Booth's plot, and keep Frank from losing himself in death.

Great read. We basically pick up the story in Hell! Love how the story starts right in with the pain and terror of being in Hell with Frank being held in place and thinking! Poor Frank. He really doesn't catch much of a break, between being constantly reminded he's a butcher and his own inability to forgive himself it's a wonder he can function!
He's not given much choice to agree or not to go on the mission. He is basically commanded. And it turns out he'll have help! It's an interesting trip and I love how we get to see some of the same characters from Hell's Marshall.
It's a great twist on some history...an underworld view!

Review: A novella that never stops or slows down. This compressed format, while enjoyable, limits the ability to make an in-depth subjective and discerning review. What Hell’s Butcher IS, is a lot of fun in a short period of time.
I had the pleasure of reading the Hell’s Butcher series by Chris Barili, Hell’s Marshal and Hell’s Butcher. This series is refreshingly different, a combination of western, speculative fiction and super hero, and somehow, it all works. Hell’s Butcher is an entertaining tale with a refreshingly original story line. Although in a series, it could be stand alone story. Regardless of the one glitch found in the protagonist’s character arc, it is a fun read that keep the pages turning.
