The Washbridge banks are in big trouble- all of their money has gone missing. If Susan can uncover what has happened, it will be The Bugle’s biggest story yet. But there are other things on Susan’s mind. Like witches, werewolves and vampires. Even though she knows they can’t possibly exist.
What kind of editor lets a writer split a book like that. I get cliffhangers but that was ridiculous. It was like a word or page count was met so cut... End of book.
Thank goodness the next book is readily available on KU or I might have given up on the series.
General items: This book is a series spin-off from the author's Witch P.I. series and follows the same format. It is just as silly. It is short. It is very easy to read. It has no literary merit. It isn't as funny. The story will be continued to the next volume. The characters are flatter than in the Witch books.
My reading time is valuable, yet I read all 45 of the Witch P.I. series in a row. They were a silly distraction from the craziness of our times, as well as a break from the nonfiction I usually read. There are only four volumes of the Susan Hall series as I write this. I will read them all. I am glad there are only four. I may have a mental illness that forces me to finish a book series once I have started it.
If you can get behind the notion that supernatural beings live among us trying not to interact in supernatural ways, then you are most of the way toward enjoying these books. But it feels like Abbot handed off the Susan Hall books to a less adept, less imaginative writer. My four-star rating is probably a gift, but I am an easy mark for any writer who can drag me all the way through a book that I feel guilty about reading.
Second book in the series and getting into the characters now. Although Susan, the lead, is not my favourite. The fairies are sweet. Charlie seems to have bad luck with women. Neil should be surrounded by women but isn't. Dorothy still a bit too stand offish with Susan. But having only one human in a whole block of flats is putting everyone off their game.
Love the money story with the banks. There are not as many story lines and characters as the Witch PI mysteries, but these books are great to listen to and I am glad there are two more for me. Manic is my favourite !
The series is okay... I like the premise but I'm not a big fan of the writing style. It's just very straightforward and there isn't much mention of how the characters are feeling or anything to really set the stage. Also, I dislike a couple of the characters and instead of liking them more in the second book, I like them less. So, I don't think I will be continuing the series. Which is a shame, because I do like the premise.
These Whoops! books are fun, light reads. It's as though the TV sitcom Friends was rewritten to include supernaturals like vamps, weres, wizards and fairies. Lots of fun subplots, but no real overarching plot make the book feel a bit meandering. Not a complaint...just an observation. It makes the endings feel ubrupt...nothing really gets resolved. Still, I am going to keep reading the rest of the series.
Not very funny Adele. While the book is written in seemingly short snippets, the 4 house mates do tend to mix and mingle in the crossing over of their independent lives. Right up until the end of the book. HOW CAN YOU LEAVE US HANGING LIKE THAT?
Difficult to get into this series, seems a little weak, mainly because I think there are too many POVs and it just makes it seem scattered. Not quite the flow of the Jill Gooder books. Not yet anyway.
I do like that they are finally starting to accept Susan though.

Carrying on from book one, Susan the reporter, who unknowingly shares a flat with supernatural beings, is getting closer to their secrets whilst still investigating top stories for her paper to run. Leaves you wanting more
Really enjoy this series. The author evenly spreads the story across the flatmates and makes it work. A great, smooth read! Recommend this author and all her books!
While the investigative reporter is busy tracking down clues on her latest mystery, her supernatural flatmates are trying to keep from being discovered. This book is very fast paced with all the happenings. Very enjoyable.
Our favorite news reporter, Susan, is willing and able to run with the stories that will make a difference in her home town. Let's hope she doesn't get hurt in the meantime.
I've had a little trouble getting into this series in spite of being a devotee of the Washbridge/Candlefield world. This series purports to be a Susan Hall mystery but is really about all her flatmates just as much as about her. It gives a scattered feeling as we jump from POV to POV, one character to another. Perhaps that's my problem or maybe I just miss Jill. We did meet Dorothy in some of the Jill Gooder books and possibly some of the other characters, but I'm wishing Jill could make even a brief appearance in these books!
I think this is a fun series and love how it still ties in with the Witch P.I. series in some ways. It’s different enough and the characters are worth investing in.
