I’ve taken your daughter, as punishment for what you did …
Prepare to be gripped by the heart-stopping new thriller from the author of The Madam.
South London detective Sarah Mason is a single mother. It’s a tough life, but Sarah gets by. She and her ex-husband, fellow detective Adam Boyd, adore their 15-month-old daughter Molly.
Until Sarah’s world falls apart when she receives a devastating Her daughter has been taken, and the abductor plans to raise Molly as their own, as punishment for something Sarah did.
Sarah is forced to stand back while her team try to track down the kidnapper. But her colleagues aren’t working fast enough to find Molly. To save her daughter, Sarah must take matters into her own hands, in a desperate hunt that will take her to the very depths of London’s underworld.
What happens to Sarah and her ex Adam is every parents worst nightmare. To have a child taken and knowing it's due to someone wanting to get back at Sarah really does seem to make it worse somehow.
The reader will certainly have every empathy for what Molly's parents are going through. Every time Sarah was getting messages from the kidnapper my heart was in my mouth and I was close to tears also. I have to admit one part in particular was hard to read but I think it has been put in for impact which it certainly did that.
The chapters alternate between Sarah, her ex as well as Sarah's boss who is in charge of the case. It is really good to see all the different sides and guarantees the reader turning those pages.
The Mother is a gripping and somewhat shocking thriller. It is very much a race against time and the tension is almost unbearable as to whether they will get Molly back. Definitely an adrenaline filled book.
I love books like this were you are hooked from the start and you can't turn the pages over quick enough. So if you have anything important you need to be doing, don't open this book!
The mother by jaime raven. South London detective Sarah Mason is a single mother. It’s a tough life, but Sarah gets by. She and her ex-husband, fellow detective Adam Boyd, adore their 15-month-old daughter Molly. Until Sarah’s world falls apart when she receives a devastating threat: Her daughter has been taken, and the abductor plans to raise Molly as their own, as punishment for something Sarah did. A very good read. I liked the story and the characters. I felt for sarah. 4*.
This is the 3rd book of Jaime Ravens I have read and it didn't disappoint. I was hooked from the start. It was a well written story, and a gripping storyline although violent and disturbing in parts I still couldn't put it down.
This was the first book I have read by Jamie Raven and I really enjoyed it! Right from the opening chapter the story was a non-stop, intense rollercoaster ride that was hard to get off! The author developed such likeable characters, Sarah was the mother of the child that had been taken, I often find with novels similar to this the mother of a missing child usually turns into a complete nutter and starts to grate on me but I absolutely loved this main character!! I was so pleased that literally nothing about her annoyed me, she remained sane throughout the whole nightmare, not getting in the way of the investigation but helping wherever she thought necessary. I did feel like she could have done so much better than Adam, he was a bit of an arse, to be fair to him he was always there to support Sarah but I felt like he was worming his way back into her! I can’t hit the nail on the head on exactly why I didn’t like him but the further the story went on he just gave me more reasons to dislike him! Sarah was doing such a good job as a single mom, she didn’t need him! I loved how the case all pieced together once the investigation team had the breakthrough on who they believed was holding Molly! The pace really quickened after this point and it was just one twist and turn after another! The book was just so full of energy and I couldn’t fault Brennan and his team investigating the abduction at all, they worked their butts off to get to the bottom of what had happened and return Molly back to her mother. The only thing I would say is that it would have been nice to have had Sarah’s parents more involved in the book, they were such a huge part at the beginning and then they were kind of just left in the background! I particularly loved how well I was able to visualise the story in my mind as I read it, I feel like I’ve just left the cinema and watched The Mother movie! I think it’s excellent when an author is able to do that for a reader. I don’t quite know what I was expecting from the ending but it was a complete shock that I did not see coming!! I thought I’d weighted the characters up well so discovering the identity of the kidnapper was a blow! I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to read more by Jamie Raven and I would recommend The Mother to all detective novel lovers!!
Overall, I liked this book. The main character is interesting and was a good choice to lead a book like this, where there is so much at stake. Strong, intelligent female leads are nice to see in books like this. There were a few times when I wondered if a police officer, even a mother desperate to find her child would behave the way the main character did in this book--but it was mostly easy to ignore those times because the story was so compelling.
I like the way the relationship between the parents was portrayed. You could see that they still cared for one another and respected each other, but also see the struggle they faced getting along with one another in the face of such a tragedy. This book has a lot of action in it and keeps the story moving right along. I read this mostly in one sitting and am looking forward to exploring further books from this author.
This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Many thanks to Goodreads Giveaways and the author for my free copy of The Mother in exchange for an unbiased review. The Mother was a fast paced read that certainly had a page turning quality making the reader wanting to know what happens next. Unfortunately this style of soap opera crime fiction just wasn't to my taste. I can see though, that this book will be popular with those wanting an easy read on holiday perhaps. Just not for me.
Intense, non-stop thriller in which a young girl,15 months,is kidnapped from the grandmother who was babysitting. To make matters worse, both the mother and father are police officers, who have worked in kidnapping cases so know all the horrible things that can happen! This story grips you immediately as you come to know Adam, the dad, and Sarah the mom. We are with them as they try to figure out if any people they put in jail could be behind this awful crime. When a text and photo arrive our hearts jump, the person wants to cause Sarah intense pain and promises to hurt the child if any of his photos are released to the public. Of course one photo is not held back in time and is revealed, as punishment a message is sent showing the naked baby being held upside down by her ankle while being slapped continually on her buttocks, hard, with little Molly screaming...Holding your breath yet? The author does a great job moving quickly through what's happening, even as we learn things from the past that are having consequences now... I received this book from netgalley , the author Jaime Raven, and publisher Avon from which I make my notes and therefore thank very much.
I absolutely love this authors books, you know that as soon as you've got a copy you're in for a treat! I curled up on the sofa and lost a wee while racing through the pages. In #TheMother we catch up with London Detective Sarah Mason and her ex Graham Boyd who is also in the Force.
If you're a parent one of your worst fears would be if your child was to be abducted and it would probably tip you over the edge if the reason was something you had done in your past. Sadly this is what happened to Sarah and her ex Graham and the search is obviously taken out of her hands but the whole force is on the hunt for the perpetrator.
It certainly made me anxious when the threat of what could happen to her daughter. It reminded me of s time when my oldest son wandered off in a supermarket, I was just a blubbering mess and couldn't think straight, thankfully the security guard captured him before he escaped the store.
I read this sometime ago, I apologise for the massive delay in reviewing.
Read for an honest review. Thanks to Mr Raven, #Netgalley and Avon Books UK
This is the first Jaime Raven book that I have read, but it won't be my last.
Detective Sarah Mason is a single mother to 15-month-old Molly. Her ex-husband, Graham Boyd, is also in the police force.
Whilst at work she receives a devastating text message. Attached to it is a photograph of Molly. She is spending the day at her parent's house and now she has been abducted.
This whole thing appears to be very personal. Who is exacting revenge and why?
She and her colleagues trawl through the underworld of London, where she lives. Every angle is examined.
She is obviously a tough lady but I did find her ex rather a wimp. The pace is fast and the plot packs in a lot of action. The ending is very good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are all my own and completely unbiased. My thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity.
This was a good and entertaining read. It is a hard subject matter as it is about the kidnapping and possible abuse of a very young child. Sarah Mason is a single mother and a cop. Her world is brutally turned upside down when she receives a text message and picture suggesting her young daughter has been kidnapped. Sarah has her ex-husband, also a cop, and the entire police force on her side to help find her missing daughter; but will they find her and will they find her before something terrible happens to her? There are a lot of suspects as both parents are police and have put away a lot of criminals over the years. Whoever has taken little Molly has done so to punish Sarah, now they just need to figure out who before time runs out.
Fast-paced, cinematic and compelling, The Mother was a quick double espresso of a read . Detective Sarah Mason is bringing up her fifteen month old daughter Molly after splitting from fellow police officer Adam Boyd. The two co-parent amicably and are drawn closer together when Molly is abducted.
Who has taken Molly and why? The police work tirelessly to find out but it is ultimately Sarah's desperate yet cool-headed sleuthing that takes her to the surprising answer.
Nicely done but not really my bag. The emotion wrought by Molly's abduction was uncomfortably real, Sarah was likeable, Adam not but some parts were too neat and formulaic.
I wasn't quite sure if I would read this book from start to finish but the first chapter was that good I carried on reading and before I knew it I had finished the whole book I just was looking forward to bed times to carry on reading this novel I give this book 5 stars well worth it and would recommend this novel to people who know this auther also people who don't know Jaime Raven . Well wrote and certainly be looking forward to reading more of the books .
This is a thriller about Police officers Sarah and Adam, who have their 15 months daughter kidnapped while being babysat from the grandmother.
Wow, I seriously couldn't put this book down and had my heart in my throat several times. Being a mother myself, I cannot imagine how you would feel if someone took your child.
I haven't read any previous books of Jaimes, but this won't be the last. This was very well written and gripping right from the start.
This is a 5 star action packed thriller which held my attention to the last page. There were many twists and turns in the hunt to find 15 month old, kidnapped, baby Molly. She is the daughter of two serving policemen, Sarah and Adam. They have recently separated. The kidnapper has been sending texts, videos and pictures of Molly but the police search is coming up empty. Sarah and Adam decide to find Molly themselves! Read on!
I really enjoyed this thriller which keeps the reader guessing for most of the book. It moves quickly, and captures some of the banality of regular life along with the stresses and strains of abduction from multiple perspectives.
Whilst there is little graphic violence in the book, as a mother, I found some of it quite hard to read - which is simply a testament to how well the author conveyed emotionally charged events.
I did not want to put this down, it’s a real page turner! Sarah Mason and her ex Adam are both coppers, but between them they have a child, baby Molly. Baby Molly has been abducted by a monster who sends Sarah text messages and pictures of her baby being smacked, with threats to rape her…the monster tells her it’s revenge for something she did…and this is her punishment. What a great read, lots of grit and twists, I cannot wait for her next book.
I have always enjoyed the previous books by Jaime Raven and I think this was the best one yet. A very intense plot involving the kidnapping of a 15 month girl whose parents are both police officers. The pace moves quickly as a series of photos and texts are sent to Sarah, the distraught mum. The book is well written and I loved the character of Sarah. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy.
Gripped from the first page ! Very tense and shocking ,Every character involved with looking for Mollie had their own story going on encouraged me in and made me pray for a positive outcome ,I cou
Dnt test until I had read the whole book would defiantly recommend but be prepared to set few hours aside as its impossible to leave it
Sarah and Adam are both police officers and their little girl, Molly, gets taken in some sort of revenge against them. So, starts a game of cat and mouse as they try and think who it could be, out of all of the criminals they have put away.
I enjoyed this and the story went along at a good steady pace. There were a few twists that I didn't expect.
Wow what a fantastic read it has you gripped from the beginning it's a bit of a sore subject as it involves a young child and some bits made me cringe as a parent myself but was excellent
I couldn't put this book down from start to finish Very well written a proper page turned I feel like I've watched drama on tv were your guessing to the end who took Molly Well done again Jamie on should a brilliant book
It was great from beginning to end. I couldn't out it down. Both characters Sarah and Adam were great. Didn't like Adam at one point but you grew to love 💘 him.
I gave this book five stars because I didn't want to put it down had me gripped from beginning to end this is the first book I have read from this author . I enjoyed it so much I am going to purchase her other Brooks
First book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the pace and tension and found it a page-turner. Well told and an unusual take on an abduction and the motivation for it- I can well imagine it as a serialised TV drama. I am grateful to have received this book as a 'Giveaway'
Really enjoyed reading this book, the author really did a fantastic job with description s of emotions. The storyline had me sucked in from the start and I raced through desperate to get to the end. Excellent read.
First book I’ve read from this author. I don’t know if it’s because I am a mother or just the book itself but I found it an intriguing read, many times where you can’t put the book down. Will definitely read another from this author.
Hooked from page 3!! A brilliant book that I've found unputdownable! I could feel the emotional turmoil of the characters all the way through and in the build up to the end. Really excited to read the other books written by Jaime.
