IN HER IMAGE by British author Adam Croft is a gripping psychological thriller that is difficult to put down. This is the third book that I have read by Adam Croft, having enjoyed his bestseller psychological thrillers, “Her Last Tomorrow and “Only The Truth”. His books keep getting better and better!
“He's watching. He knows everything about you. And you don't even know he's there.”
Alice Jefferson is being stalked! No one including the police believe her story. He has been in her house. And all the signs are there! He is messing with her mind, and she feels some days she is losing it!
“I see you. You don’t see me. That’s just the way I like it…”
Alice steps inside her house and feels a sense of unease…like something isn’t right. She now lives alone after breaking up with her boyfriend, Kieran, and increase her alcohol consumption, with the void left in her life.
“But then she uncovers his true identity — a shocking revelation that will turn her entire world upside down and leave her unable to trust anybody — even herself.“
I must say that this was my favourite read so far, and it moves along at a fast-pace. The characters are well flushed out and I can feel Alice’s fear. I found that the ending was a little rushed and the conclusion a little flat for my liking, (as I read so many psychological thrillers) but satisfactory.
Imagine having a stalker and yet no one, including the cops, believed you? How frustrating!
Well, that's what happens to Alice in In Her Image. One morning at the local bakery Alice collides with a man dropping her things. He insists in replacing her items. As soon as she turns to depart he offers her a business card. He is a photographer that places models with different agencies and Alice has just the right look. Call it vanity or her recent break up but she decides to call him to do the photo shoot.
The photo shoot goes smoothly and he comes across as professional and charming. No worries, right? That is until she see's the pictures that he sends.
From here little things keep happening that ramp up Alice's paranoia. She goes to the police but, alas, with no evidence there isn't much they can do. Will Alice try to take matters in her own hand?
This book is written well but it's all just very repetitious. Every chapter we're inside Alice's mind where she continually asks "Why Me?" Who would do this?" "I'm so frightened." "What should I do next?" "Who will help me?" .... You get my drift. We do get occasional chapters where the "Stalker" addresses us but I wanted to get into his mind more. I think it would of made it all more interesting to see inside the mind of the creeper but I'm weird like that.
The final conclusion, the why of it all, left a little to be desired for me. All in all not too bad and I did manage to finish it. It's just not anything you haven't read before.
I do have a soft spot for Adam Croft and I know I’m not the only one! His books are HUGELY popular and he is one of the most successful and knowledgeable self published authors in the world! And I think the main reason for that is the way he taps into people’s everyday fears and spins a spine chilling “what if?” tale around them. That way the reader can actually imagine the scenarios that play out happening to themselves or someone close to them.
Adam Croft is a first class storyteller and his books are the definitive pageturners. In Her Image drags you in from the first page with a realistic and likeable main character that the reader is rooting for from the start. Watching Alice and how her nightmare unfolds felt almost voyeuristic at times as though we were seeing her reactions through the eyes of her stalker. And whilst her mental health problems were handled delicately, it was still hard having to watch her struggle to convince others that she wasn’t imagining the terror that was threatening to take over her entire life.
I think this is possibly my favourite of Adam Crofts books so far – it was the perfect read for lounging around in the hot summer weather. Gripping and easy to read, it was an enjoyable escape from the real world. My only negative is that, although I thought the ending was perfectly pitched within the plot, it wasn’t as twisty as I was expecting due to its tagline. But fans, old and new, will lap up this compelling tale for the modern age that will have you looking over your shoulder far more often than you’d like to admit!
He's watching. He knows everything about you. And you don't even know he's there. No-one believes Alice Jefferson’s stalker exists. But he’s been in her house. And he's made sure she knows it. My Review
A psychological thriller, that will mess with your mind. Doubts arise. Your sanity and Alice's sanity will be pushed to the very edge. Adam has written a psychological thriller that is a real page-turner, with short chapters which entices you into reading more, you won't want to put it down. Adam has formulated a fantastic storyline centred around Alice, who I can best describe as a wallflower, quiet and in some ways socially inept, Alice is vulnerable, she has broken up from her boyfriend, she has started to drink, someone is watching. Alice doesn't feel safe, her home feels violated, he was here. The police don't believe her, no one believes her. A stalker a known person, is terrorizing Alice trying to mould her but what does he want.
I found while reading the book I could be part of the story. The narrative through Alice's eyes and thoughts, but also the transition Adam made between victim and stalker narration read easily, that I could feel and think what was happening in his head. Nice fluid writing that made it so easy to enjoy without having to overthink the scenario.
A shocking but riveting read from Adam which I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a great psychological thriller. Thank you Adam Croft for an Advanced Readers Copy of In Her Image for an honest opinion it was a pleasure to read and review.
Mr Croft, you have a lot to answer for ! I pre ordered this and when it came out had to wait until bedtime before starting. Once started I simply couldn’t put it down. 3 o'clock came and went (struggling to stay awake but had to read more), eventually fell asleep. Next morning I decided all jobs could wait (thank goodness I'm retired), I had to finish the book first.
I found I was in Alice's world and what a frightening place to be! What can she do ? Where can she go ? Was there anyone who would believe her ?
Chilling, scary but what a good book. I think this is the best of Adam Crofts books so far, even surpassing the brilliant Her Last Tomorrow.
I'm a huge fan of Adam Croft and I enjoy his books. This was a good read however I feel it's not a psychological thriller based on the fact early on in the book it is revealed who is stalking Alice, I like the element of surprise and a twist in a psychological thriller that you aren't expecting and makes you gasp with shock, that being said I really enjoyed this story and empathised with Alice. Being on medication fluoxetine myself for anxiety I can relate to feeling you don't have control over your emotions, it was realistic also and is actually quite worrying that stalking does happen everyday and we may not even be aware of it. A good read I'm just a bit disappointed the story revealed the perpetrator early on, I enjoy guessing and then being surprised at the very end. I'm looking forward to reading other books by Adam croft.
Another great book by Adam Croft. This one keeps you turning the pages and wondering if you are a bit crazy. Alice is being stalked and no one believes her. What lengths should she go through to find her stalker or is she crazy? He seems to be everywhere, even in her house...how can she prove it? And what makes it scarier is when she finds out who it is, how will she prove it.
I have read quite a few of Mr. Crofts book and have never been disappointed in any of them. Looking forward to reading more.
In Her Image, is the first book I have read by Adam Croft, and he was brought to my attention by my good friend and fellow blogger Joanne Robertson. this was an exceptionally creepy read, and plays with your mind as to whether the storylines are true. A very interesting and chilling look in to how we can be observed without our knowing. We follow Alice after a photo shoot where her paranoia kicks in, she is a slightly unreliable narrator, which gives the whole read a twisty look. In Her Image is a page turningly gripping read, and I am looking forward to adding Adam Croft in my authors to read more by.
This was another excellent novel by someone who is now one of my favourite authors. The story started out quite innocently with what seemed to be a coincidental meeting and turned into a terrifying episode of stalking. I think that was made this even more worrying was that once the victim had found out who her stalker was there was still nothing she could do about it.
I think this has to be the kind of thing that everyone fears deep down inside - stalking is a reality and it happens so frequently to people in all walks of life. It could easily be me, you or someone you know - just how would you deal with it. Well I bet you wouldn't do what Alice does and it's very scary.
A fantastic novel and I would highly recommend it but just don't read it alone at night.............
Holy Smokes! What a story. It rope me in from the very first chapter. Who is this person speaking and who is this person speaking of? I must know!
So, you know why after reading that chapter, you must go on reading. I read the entire book in one weekend. Actually, I stayed up to finish reading it.
Once again Adam Croft as done it again wrote another brilliant book, he brings the best out of the characters that you almost feel as if you know them. He's one of a few authors who can do this. I absolutely love his books they are very well written the stories are really really gripping that I find them difficult to put down. This one be is no exception just keeps you guessing and once you find out who it is then because of his job it's a difficult situation to be in, I just kept on thinking how is this going to end its a difficult one to imagine. You must read this book you are missing out if you dont, thank you Adam Croft for another genuinely brilliant book can't wait until your next one definitely a must read must must read
I've read other books by Adam Croft, so I was looking forward to this new book.
This one is sure nothing like his other novels that I have read.
Alice Jefferson is being stalked, and she's not sure by who. The police can't, or won't help. where can she turn?
I'm pretty good at figuring out mysteries before the story ends...but this one caught me by surprise.
Alice is pulled from one end of her psyche to the other (does that make sense?), but the story does end, you don't have to wait for the next book! This poor woman, and her friends, are run ragged.
I've read Adams other books and always enjoyed them all. This latest book is superb gripping read. When Alice is approached by a photographer do some shots she couldn't imagine where it would lead. A real page Turner with a surprise ending.
Adam I don't know how you do it but this was so intense in places, as with all your books, I could not put this one down. I just have to keep on reading until I finish. It is a superb read and I thoroughly recommend it.
Disappointing. That would be the word that I would use to describe this book … disappointing! It had the potential to but great but the ending fell so flat for me: there was no big reveal or shock.
'In Her Image' has been marketed as 'the sensational bestselling psychological thriller everyone's talking about' - very high praise for a book and a statement which gives very high expectations indeed!
Alice Jefferson finds herself being stalked. Throughout the course of the book, things get more and more sinister and her anxiety and fear levels increase ten-fold, as you would expect. It's not clear who the stalker is, and we are taken on a journey in which we follow clues to try and work out - at the same time as Alice - who the stalker is. I found the book to be fast-paced, and Croft was able to build plenty of suspense. This was definitely a book I couldn't put down, reading it in two days and eating in to my valuable sleep time!
I really enjoyed Croft's writing style, and liked that he doesn't overload the read with unnecessary details or flourishes. However, as great as the bulk of this book is, I was largely disappointed with the ending. It seemed a little too extreme and I did not find it a satisfying end. It felt as though the word count had been reached and then Croft had to quickly tie up the ends. That being said, I would highly recommend this book for the quality of writing and the 'just right' amount of suspense it offered.
On the whole this was a gripping story. At times I felt it was lacking in depth and detail. I found the police's reaction to Alice's allegations mind blowing in their ignorance and stupidity. I can certainly believe that if everyone around you questions your sanity, as they did with Alice, that the result is you questioning it yourself. At times I felt that the police's attitude was making her feel more insane than her stalker's actions did. Mind you, a person would have to be bonkers to pitch up at their stalker's house all on their own. There were definitely elements in this book when I thought, "really? That would never happen" But I know Mr Croft is a thorough researcher, so I guess I'm either out of touch or have too much faith in the innate goodness of humanity. But on balance, a good book and a well told tale
Ummm… Wait, what!? Showww nuff didn’t see that one coming! 🤯 I love me some Adam Croft!! If you haven’t read anything by him yet, you’re missing out!
What do you do when you’re being stalked, tormented, photoed up close and personal, and items in your home become displaced? Contact the police, right? Well, what happens when the police don’t believe you? You are on anti-anxiety medication, after all. Maybe it’s side effects from your meds. That’s what they tell you, anyway. Now, what?
Investigate for yourself, but will the huntee become the hunter or stay the prey? 🤔
This book was gripping from the beginning, and I couldn’t put it down! I have another Adam Croft book I’m reading soon, and I can’t wait!
Alice Jefferson, having recently split up with her boyfriend, is flattrered when she bumps into a stranger who offers to take some studio shots of her with a view to a modelling career. At first she's doubtful, but then decides to go ahead with the photo shoot. All goes well, until she receives some of the photos via email. She definitely has no recollection of one particular photo being taken, but when she tries to contact the photographer he has vanished without trace. Soon Alice becomes aware that she's being stalked, but the police are sceptical, and as the case progresses even her friends and family begin to question whether she's imagining it all. Feeling alone and increasingly stressed, Alice decides to take action to track down the person making her life a misery - will there be a happy ending ?
How do you cope with being stalked and no one believes you? This is a realistic and scary narrative of that scenario. To be so scared in your own home must be awful and the worst part of it is that many women have been in similar situations. Another great one from Adam, but please Adam, what is an osman? The frustration of not having that explained was getting to me a little, but I love your books so much that I have given you the five stars it deserves. Recommended.
This is a scary psychological thriller you'll not be able to set down. Someone is seeking Alice Jefferson. He entices her to his photography site wanting to take some photos as she's beautiful like a model. Perhaps he can find such a job for her. But his true goal is to stalk her and capture her. The police can find no trace of him stalking her or being in her home at night and she has no evidence. But Alice knows who her stalker is ... and she will hunt him down and terrorize him. A scorcher of a story which will engulf you. Highly recommend.
If your familiar with Adam Croft's books then you will understand the 5* rating! If your not then I definitely recommend you give his books a go like I did. Every book Adam has written to date will have you on the edge of your seat and In her image certainly kept you there, another thrilling gripping read. Keep up the great work, cant wait til your next book is released Adam
Imagine having a stalker who is watching your every move and has been in your house while you've been asleep but nobody believes you this is the predicament of Alice Jefferson. She is left with no option but to go after the stalker herself and thus begins a tale that will keep you hooked all the way through to the shocking twist at the end!!!!
This is my first book by Adam Croft but it definitely won't be my last I'm hooked !!!!!!!
In Her Image by Adam Croft is a gripping psychological thriller about fear, obsession, and survival. Alice Jefferson is tormented by a stalker no one else believes exists. As she questions her own sanity, she uncovers shocking truths that change everything. The suspense is intense and the pacing is a bit slow; I wish it was a bit faster. Even with that, I still like it.
I preordered In Her Image and it was worth the wait. The suspense of not knowing if Alice was sane or delusional had me not able to put this book down. You've done it again, Adam Croft. Looking forward to reading more of your books.
In my image, is a great gripping story, couldn't put it down, once l started to read it, couldn't wait to find out, who was the mystery stalker of Alice's was, and what a great twist at the end, a great read.
I've read a few of Adam,s books and they have really kept me hooked, but sadly for me this one ran out of steam , and I found myself skipping pages , it was a dencent read but for me not his usual gripping stuff
