"A charmingly modern twist on a classic love story—loads of fun and all the feels." —Julia London, New York Times bestselling author of Suddenly in Love

In this enchanting retelling of the classic Audrey Hepburn film Roman Holiday , a royal prince tries to escape his hectic and rigid life and ends up leading a young graduate student on a chase through the Eternal City.

Julia Costa is too busy trying to complete her PhD while also holding down a full-time job as a private tour guide in Rome to keep up with celebrity gossip. So when she crosses paths with a real, actual prince, she mistakes him for a client and takes him on a daylong tour of the city.

Intrigued by the idea of spending time with someone who obviously has no idea who he is, and delighted at the prospect of a day free of royal obligations, Niccolo La Torre, Crown Prince of Lazaretto, acts on impulse and assumes the role of Julia’s client. He swears to himself that he’ll return to his royal duties after only half a day…but he’s having the time of his life.

Until Julia presents him with the bill. Since he snuck out of the hotel without so much as a dime, he tries to escape, only to discover that she won’t let him out of her sight until he can pay her back. She’s determined to get her money…and perhaps more from the handsome stranger she’s fallen for.

Royally Roma by Teri Wilson is a 2017 Pocket Star publication.

Royally Roma is a cute tribute to, and retelling of the classic Audrey Hepburn movie, ‘Roman Holiday’.

Julia Costa is living in Rome, hiding out and escaping the public humiliation her father wrought on her family and nursing her wounds. She is employed as a tour guide while she works on her PhD.

A mix up has her giving Niccolo La Torre a private tour through Rome, mistakenly believing him to be someone else, and has absolutely no idea he is the Crown Prince of Lazaretto.

Niccolo is weary of covering up for his brother’s wild and uncensored behavior and carrying the entire burden of being the Crown Prince on his own. So, needing a break from his responsibilities, he takes advantage of Julia’s mistake and allows himself to be taken around Rome on a private one day tour, deliberately shirking his obligations.

Naturally, things get a wee bit complicated when Niccola is unable to pay his bill, and Julia discovers his true identity and her scandalous past is revealed.

This is a delightful story, although it moves along at breakneck speed and there is little time for a slow romantic build up. So, there is an immediate attraction, but it works in this instance. The frenetic pacing did hurt the character depth and development, but I’m thinking this story works okay despite that. It’s the type of book you pick up when you need a change from too much drama and angst, and just want a light, easy, romantic escapist read.

This one is not intended to be overly serious and if taken in that context is charming and entertaining.

Review at Of Pens and Pages.

I really wanted to love this book. I enjoyed Ms. Wilson's Unleashing Mr. Darcy and absolutely adored Roman Holiday, so I was hoping the best for Royally Roma. Unfortunately, it fell short for me.

Before I talk about why it didn't work for me, I'll say why it would have. My 3 Rs.

First, Roman Holiday. It was such a sweet classic film about an innocent princess who meets Joe, a reporter looking for a scoop. As they spend time together in Rome, Joe softens up to Princess Ann, and the scoop is forgotten. It was a whirlwind romance that happened in a span of a day. Second, Rome. It's easy to fall in love with a book that highlights one of the most romantic cities in the world. Third, Royalty. A prince falling for a commoner? I'm usually putty in the author's hand.

Now, why it didn't work for me.

Like Roman Holiday, Royally Roma is a fast-paced romance that happens in a span of a day or two. Almost half of the book covers their tour in Rome where we're shown how instant of a connection Prince Niccolo and Julia have. As some of you might already know, I'm more of a slow burn kinda gal. I would have enjoyed the story more if there was more build up. They pretty much started lusting over each other the moment they met.

And there was Prince Niccolo's deception. Not only did he lie to her and got her fired, he failed to pay Julia. She should've brought him to the police. And when he promised her he'd have her money the next day and he still didn't, POLICE. Instead, he hired her again and promised to pay her triple, and do you know what Julia did? She said yes despite her conscience telling her to say no.

If I were in Julia's shoes, I would have despised the man who lied to me and got me fired, regardless of how hot he looked. Once he'd remedied that situation and paid me my due, that's when I'd jump the sh*t out of him. I think. It still depends.

I also didn't like how susceptible Julia was to Prince Nico's charm. Her gut has been telling her to do one thing and her libido another. Guess which one she listens to.

Don't get me wrong. It has a well-written narrative, not different to Ms. Wilson's other works. Some people might still enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me.

Royally Roma is a standalone novel told in alternating POVs. If you like fast-paced insta-love with a royal theme, you might enjoy this. But if you're like me who prefers slow burn, this might not be for you.

Julia Costa is an American living in Rome. She is studying for a PhD in archeology while working as a tour guide on the side. One morning Julia goes to pick up her client at the Hotel de Russie to start a tour. She assumes that a lone man sitting at a table is her customer and starts her tour. He seems a bit confused about the details but agrees join her for the day. She has no idea that she has just picked up Niccolo La Torre, Crown Prince of Lazaretto.

Niccolo La Torre is fed up with his royal family obligations. He wants to shed his rigid schedule and live a normal life in anonymity. Instead, he is chased by security and reporters. When he meets Julia, he is relieved to discover that she doesn’t know his identity. With his whereabouts unknown, he gets to spend a normal day with Julia and an attraction forms. Niccolo has no money to pay for the tour so Julia decides to hold him “hostage” until her bill is paid. It’s a fun time for both until the debt is settled.

This story was inspired by the film Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn. This is Teri Wilson’s first book in her new series and it is fun and engaging. I look forward to Book Two of the series, Royally Romanov on July 17th.

Julia is kind of hiding out in Rome. Back in New York her dad destroyed her life and the lives of many other people with his illegal money dealings. That’s why Julia is trying to finish her archeology PhD in Rome, while making some money as a tourguide!
Enter Mano Romano. At least that’s what he tells her his name is. His real name is PRINCE Niccolo. He’s the next king of Lazzaretto. And he’s in the middle of a long tour of lots of countries to turn the Lazaretto Royal Family name into a good thing again – something his little brother is doing his best to destroy with naked shenanigans!
But one morning Niccolo’s suddenly had enough …. somehow he ends up on the back of Julia’s Vespa – pretending to be her new client Mano Romano. He never called in sick for just one day, but he can at least try to have a tiny little happiness in the middle of all that crazy being-a-royal-ness.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH JULIA & HER PRINCE?
WILL THERE BE CHANCE FOR A HEA??? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

I really enjoyed this book. Everything is beautifully described and the locations are just beautiful. It feels as if we’re right there in Rome with them.
We have this huge insta attraction on both sides, but of course a royal could never end up with a commoner from New York, a girl with a criminal father! And poor Julia, she can never ever again trust a guy. After everything her dad did and this stupid ex who stole all her money. But there’s something about this Mano guy. She knows he’s lying to her, but she still can’t stop thinking about undressing him!!!
So adorable. We drive through all of Rome on the run from the Palace Guards – which of course poor Julia doesn’t know! I really enjoyed reading this story. I have to admit, I never watched the movie this book is based on, but as soon as it’ll be on german TV, I will watch it!

I had some tiny little problems with the writing here and there – nothing major. Just… I don’t even know. We’re in Italy and the author is american and the heroine is american but we still use SO many british expressions? Maybe done on purpose by the author as a way for the reader to feel more european in europe? No idea, but I just noticed it … seemed weird.
Another thing. I almost stopped reading in the first chapter. The book starts with a chapter from towards the middle/end of the book and then the next chapter is 48 hours earlier. I didn’t like that at all. No idea why it was done that way – didn’t make much sense to me. And I didn’t like it!
Also, I would’ve loved an epilogue ☹ … but …

ROYALLY ROMA was an adorably funny but also very serious Roman(tic) Comedy! Hurry to your nearest amazon to catch your own ride on Julia’s Vespa – with Prince Niccolo sitting behind or in front of you, of course ;)

I really enjoyed this one! Sweet and romantic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* arc received for review consideration
This book was a sweet and delightful journey throughout Rome. While some may hate the insta-love and attraction factor, I thought it was romantic and light-hearted.
The author brings us along for a fun ride and a tour of some favorite sights all while developing the heated attraction factor with a hottie Prince. And who wouldn't want to be a love interest with a royal? Uh, I would!
With some quirky scenes, some decidedly hot love going on, and a swoon worthy ending, this is a book made for the princess in you. I think this series will be a sweet treat for those that love classic romance, with a splash of heat.
Teri Wilson must be a true romantic at heart to write a sweet story that satisfies all the senses.
This was a really cute, if totally unrealistic read, but if you can set aside plausibility then it’s a whole lot of fun. Julia is trying to begin a new life and get out of debt in Rome and she’s good at her job as a tour guide. Nico is the crown prince of Lazaretto and when she doesn’t recognize him and mistakes him as one of her clients, he can’t resist the opportunity to have anonymity, even if it’s only for a few days.
This one is full of standard tropes, instalove, the whole prince falling for an average girl, plenty of cliches. Had I read this as a teenager/young adult it probably would’ve been a five star read for me. It’s sassy, romantic, sexy, flirty and adventurous. But the practical, adult me had to crinkle my nose up in distaste at some of the over the top, unbelievable antics that happened.
The writing flowed easily and despite my ambivalence about the stereotypical happenings, Wilson is a good writer. The love scenes went from romantic to hot and steamy, providing a little bit of everything for everyone. The ending was totally swoon worthy even if it was entirely impractical, but again, this IS a book about a girl falling in love with a crown prince after all. I would recommend this to younger readers who aren’t burned out on recycled tropes, but there are sex scenes so not too young. It could also appeal to a reader looking to escape from reality and who doesn’t mind the impossible actually being possible.
Honest review based on an ARC provided by Netgalley. Many thanks to the publisher for this opportunity.
I've been writing this a lot lately but this was yet another disappointment. This is really a 2.5 but not a bad book really. Just flawed.
The story was inspired in Roman Holiday. Guide tour Julia mistakes her client and ends up unknowingly touring runaway prince Niccolo around Rome. When the tour ends, she finds out that not only she is unemployed for not finding her actual client but also that Niccolo has no money to pay and no intention of disclosing his identity, so she sort of kidnaps him until he gets the money.
While the author shows potential for an engaging story, the scenes filled with cliché drama/romance were far too many to the point of infamous instalove. Also, most of the excuses for them to end up in that situation were hard to believe. Really, who would trust Niccolo? The only argument for her was that he was too irresistible. No, I'm serious. And while I believe that Niccolo wouldn't have any money, his secretary needs to be fired if he didn't have at least 250 euros with him while working for royalty. I wouldn't be caught dead without at least the double in cash if I were on a trip abroad. Those flaws weren't exceedingly aggravating but they are still hard to miss.
But the book wasn't all bad, which is what made me pity it the most. You can see the author's potential. Both characters were engaging, and the writing was more than easy to read. It's the type of romance to read with a silly smile on, if you're able to ignore the parts it falls into the commonplaces of romances.
Considering the many pluses intercalated with the also many minuses, this was hard for me to rate. Or maybe easy to rate and just hard to explain why. It wasn't underwhelming exactly... In any case, I don't think I will be trying another from the author this soon—as compelled as I feel by the summary for the second in this series. This can still be recommended for those who really like romances, despite all the negative points. It's silly, clichéd but quick and entertaining.
I loved Roman Holiday and when I ran across this book (and its premise), I knew I had to read it. While it is a very loose adaptation of Roman Holiday, it left me with a blah feeling. I didn't like the Prince and thought he was a real jerkface. Couldn't get beyond that and thus my rating.
What do you read after a book that makes you cry for days just thinking about it? One that is pure escapism and fun, which is exactly what this one was. Roman Holiday is one of my favorite movies, and I loved the twist on this modern day retelling. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and even little things that I don't always love in my stories worked well here, partly because of my mood. If it hadn't ended so abruptly, it might have been a four star read. Still, I was engaged with the author's writing style and look forward to reading more of her books.
3.5 stars - My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2017/07...
Royally Roma is an energetic, charming read. Teri Wilson consistently writes great modern-day retellings and her take on Roman Holiday had wonderful nods to the Audrey Hepburn/Gregory Peck classic while still maintaining its own identity.
Put aside your disbelief and enjoy a modern day fairytale where a dutiful prince in dire need of taking a break from cleaning up his brother’s messes impulsively takes off and explores the wonders of Rome with his beautiful American tour guide. I held off on writing this review for a couple of days because I was a bit torn about this book. Nico and Julia are both likeable characters who brighten up the page when they’re together. I loved how Ms. Wilson made Rome come alive on the page as Julia and Nico zipped from place to place. Even the more serious moments of Royally Roma couldn’t dampen the story’s sunny appeal. That being said, what took the book down a few notches for me was the romance. I really liked Nico and Julia together and given the whirlwind nature of the source material the breakneck speed of the romance wasn’t an issue for me. What did bother me was that Nico starts out the story keeping his identity a secret from Julia and this goes on for so long that it did make the romance a bit hard to swallow. If their falling in love had been a bit more drawn out or if Julia had gotten to know all of Nico’s character for more of the book, then I would have been more satisfied. You can have either a whirlwind romance or a secret identity, but both together is a bit much. Added to that the ending was abrupt and left me wanting more. If there had at least been an epilogue I would have satisfied. Even with these issues I found Royally Roma to be a lively, charming story and I’m looking forward to reading the next Royals book.
Royally Roma is a very loose retelling of Roman Holiday that featured a runaway prince, an unsuspecting tour guide and the misadventures they find themselves in the Eternal City. I was super excited about this plot and then equally disappointed when it completely flopped.
Most of my qualms lay squarely with Niccolo and how ineffective he was as a hero. I felt little sympathy for his sad royal lot in life, save for a brief exception in an early chapter, and absolutely no patience for his repeated deception throughout. Julia deserved so much better than this douche of a prince and I couldn’t for the life of me understand why she was so taken with him, apart from his ‘Adonis’-like looks. Even Julia’s man hating Yorkie Valentina was unable to resist Niccolo’s draw. WHY??? He was no Gregory Peck, that’s for sure.
Obviously since I had no love for Niccolo, his romance with Julia was a no-go for me as well. And I use the term ‘romance’ very reluctantly as I don’t believe what these two had came anywhere close to a romance; it was lust. Lots and lots of lust. Basically I had sex on the brain from both leads with little to no emotional depth to back it up with. Cue the extra heavy sighing on my end.
Besides the ick hero and the meh romance, I feel like the author dropped the ball in general when it came to pacing, plot, characters, EVERYTHING really This book takes place over the course of two days and yet it dragged so many times. And the characters were inconsistent at best, bipolar at worst. One minute Niccolo or Julia would have an honest to god genuine thought or feeling, and then they’d go right back to thinking about sexsexsex. UGH. There were some moments however, especially in the beginning, where I thought the story would right itself and become the breezy romcom that I’d been expecting to read. Instead that potential never manifested and only seemed to get worse with each new chapter. Don’t even talk to me about that not-ending and lack of epilogue.
Now I realize writing a believable lust to love correlation is difficult, especially in this instantaneous setting BUT, I’ve seen it done and done very well many times before so really, there is no excuse for such sloppy story telling, in my opinion. Yet in vain I waited, wanting so much to be swept away in the romantic thrill of two people stepping away from their complicated lives and finding solace and understanding in each other, if only for a few stray moments. It never happened.
The only positives I could find were the lushly rich details of the Roman setting and, to a lesser extent, Julia. She wasn’t the best heroine, but I liked her well enough to wish she had been given a better story and hero. I would say that I’d be cutting all ties to this author after this huge blunder, but apparently the next book in the series is a retelling of Anastasia...I can’t resist the lure of that kind of catnip. Dammit.
This is a long one...
I've always been a fan of stories where the prince falls for the every day girl, meaning a non-royal.
Now, I'd like to point out that the first thing that caught my attention was the cover, how cute is it? I was expecting something fun and sweet from that alone, then I read the synopsis and I just had to read it.
I loved the beginning. I know people are bothered but certain tropes, but I actually love when the MC doesn't realize the man/woman they're crushing on is royal.
The story begins in the present with our MC, Julia, looking between a still sleeping Nicco and a magazine with his face on it. Obviously she's like, "WTF?" and I don't blame her, I'd have the same reaction. We then get taken to the beginning of it all.
Julia has moved to Rome after certain events that led to a very public scandal involving her family, and is working as a tour guide when she meet Nicco and mistakes him for a client.
Nicco is feeling the pressures of being heir apparent, especially with having a younger brother with no regards for propriety. Duty, that's what it's always been about with him, so he takes this opportunity to let loose.
I will be honest, I skimmed through the majority of the second half. I did this because I got bored.
While the beginning was fun, things just stalled for a long while.
I've read books that take place during a short number of days but don't feel that way because of everything that happens... that wasn't the case here.
Almost 50% of the book takes place during the tour of the city, and even though we had dual POVs, I didn't get much from the characters. I got their background stories, but I didn't get the essence of their characters. They were very superficial, as in... they were there because we need MCs. Does that make sense? Also, There was a lot of repetition. Duty, attraction, duty, duty, more attraction.
I was so over it, mostly because I am not a fan of insta-love, which is what we get here. Though there was no proof, It was too forced.
Another reason why I feel this one didn't work was because I read another book with a few similarities, but gave me so much more about life as a royal, meaning the security required for one.
It's a little disappointing when books you're excited about don't work out.
I received an ARC of Royally Roma from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I was very excited to get Royally Roma because it had such a promise! I was swooning over the cover and the romantic setting. Unfortunately I did not enjoy it and couldn't finish it. I was expecting sexy and fun but I got mushy and sickeningly sweet. There is hardly anything happening except gazing into each other's eyes, blushing, admiring kissable lips, strong arms, long lashes, etc. I lost count of how many times the heroine thought that she never met anyone like Mano/Niccolo, an how many times the hero thought that no other woman intrigued him like Julia. It was so repetitive and mushy I wanted to throw up. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed and could not bring myself to keep reading this book
I really enjoyed this one. It's a fast read, just over 250 pages, but it packs a big punch.
Both Julia and Niccolo have secrets they can't escape. Niccolo is at a breaking point. He's been the responsible one, the one that cleans up the messes, who does the hard thing, but when he sees the woman with the red painted mouth, who doesn't know who he is, mistakes him for her client he seizes the opportunity to escape himself - at least for a few hours.
Julia is a strong person too. Her life was upended and she moved to Rome to start over, to make a life for herself there. I loved Niccolo and Julia together, the way they build off of each other, they're better together. I loved the setting, the sightseeing, journeying around with Julia and Niccolo on the Vespa, seeing all the famous sights.
There were a few misses for me, I didn't like the beginning, I would rather have started without the glimpse of the future, and the ending felt too abrupt. I wish there had been more after the grand gesture, but I guess that's a good thing, leaving us wanting more. Overall I enjoyed Royally Roma and am excited to learn that the next book in the series, another retelling, will be available soon.
I was really bored with this book at the beginning of it, to the point of almost giving up on it. Then my son asked me to "hang out" with him and I decided to try and read just a bit more of it before quitting it. All of a sudden, I had the book finished! To me, the plot was mediocre at best. I didn't really connect with the characters, so the ending, while touching, didn't impact me as much as it should have. Thankfully, it was a short read!
Original Review at The Book Portal.
4.5/5 stars.
This book was sweet, romantic, and intense. The love felt genuine and real despite being insta-love. Niccolo and Julia were complex characters with complicated pasts. They meet by chance and everything goes down from there.
Being a retelling of the classic black and white film Roman Holiday was one of things which attracted me to this book. And this says something because my number one black and white movie is Roman Holiday followed by Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
The story has its flaws. Some might find the writing repetitive and overwhelming in the beginning (especially in the description category). Despite the cliché and the flaws, it made me feel things. I was able to connect with the characters. I felt sad. I felt mushy. I felt joy and sorrow. And this is the most important thing when it comes to a book. Books must have the ability to make you root for the characters and feel what they feel.
Rome. That setting! It was a perfect ambiance for the romantic story to bloom. Rome was well written in the book, full of magic and history. An Eternal City indeed.
I was in the mood for this romance. And because it moved me, I felt like giving it a high rating. But! There is always a but. I made a short list of the main things that bothered me.
Bothering things (if you read the book you will understand): lack of GPS tracking; portraying the female in some instances based on the ancient Greek misconception (lack of self-restraint); same can be said about the male character who is portrayed as in control, honorable and in charge of the polis (thank goodness he was not also the stereotypical bad-boy).
[Yes, I had to throw some historical facts. The action is happening in Rome for goodness sake! Ha-ha-ha =))!]
Do you love super sweet, charged, and cheesy romance? Then, this is your cup of tea. Or should I say cup of espresso? ;)
This is my sole opinion. ^_^
Really cute, easy read. I love getting lost in a good romance and I love being able to experience new places via the written word. Royally Roma is a quick read, one that you can easily finish in just one sitting. The story-line is fun and cute. The characters are entertaining and sweet together.
Overall, I thought this was just a really sweet read. It’s definitely going to be one of those that is great for some, but not a hit for others. For me, I’m somewhere in between. While this is sweeter than my usual reads, it was a nice change of pace and I’m glad to have checked it out.
"There was a prince in my bed."
Every once in a while it's nice to read a simple happy love story. Boy meets girl, they have a few problems, but in the end, "they live happily ever after."
Teri Wilson has delivered such a delicious treat with, ROYALLY ROMA (PocketStarBooks). It's the first novel in her new trilogy featuring the lovely American Julia Costa and Nicollo La Torre, Crown Prince of Lazaretto. Before even getting into the story, readers are greeted by a delightful cover featuring bubble gum colors! It's too much fun and gets you in the mood for what's between the pages.
Julia has left scandal behind in America to study for her Master's in Rome. She takes a job with the "When in Rome Touring Company," schlepping tourists on private tours. She zips around Rome on her Vintage, a.k.a. old and barely functional, Vespa scooter. It's not the perfect job, but she gets to live and indulge in the "Eternal City."
One day, Julia shows up early at a posh hotel expecting to meet a client, she'll take on tour. Her eyes meet those of an attractive man, overly dressed, but alone and appearing to be waiting for someone. Unknowingly, that man is the Crown Prince of Lazaretto who has had about all he can take of being a royal. He's had a few drinks and is trying to think of how he can get out of his royal duties. Julia thinks he's some regular guy and the they end up leaving together not knowing who the other really is.
Well, a lot can happen in a day, while enjoying the sights in the beautiful romantic city of Rome, and it does between Julia and her prince. ROYALLY ROMA is a delightful modern take on the classic Audrey Hepburn film, "Roman Holiday." Author Teri Wilson is clearly having fun retelling the tale and readers will to. The writing is light, bright and moves along at a good pace. It's romantic comedy, so you know what to expect, but Wilson delivers the story with her  unique sense of child-like awe.
I can't wait for volumes 2 & 3 in the trilogy.
I loved the way Teri Wilson incorporated romance and adventure in “Royally Roma” The genre of “Royally Roma” is Romance. I appreciate the author’s descriptions of the scenery and significant destinations to tour in Rome. The architecture and history of the Coliseum (Colosseum), statues, restored ruins, fountains, and churches are depicted.
Teri Wilson describes the characters as complex, complicated, overwhelmed and secretive.
Julia Costa has run away from home in America , where her father has embezzled millions of dollars from clients, and now is in jail. Julia is ambitious and is working as a tour guide in Rome to help pay her expenses, so she can finish her thesis for her Masters in Archeology.
Niccolo La Torre, is the Crown Prince of Lazaretto, has the responsibilities of traveling to different countries as an ambassador of good will. Niccolo is also responsible for cleaning up his older brother’s embarrassing actions that reflect on his country. Niccolo needs to have some freedom.
Julia goes to the hotel to meet her client for her tour. Julia presumes that Niccolo is her client and they start on their adventure. Of course, Julia doesn’t know who Niccolo is and Niccolo has no idea of Julia’s family history. Both have reason to avoid the press or Paparazzi.
Is there such a person as Prince Charming? Does Julia finally get her happily ever after?
This was a charming, enchanting and sexy story with lots of adventure. I would recommend it highly. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Love that there was a remake of Roman Holiday because it's a classic. Wish there was a second book because it is very open ended. Two people with the need to be anonymous and hidden find each other when they need an allie more than ever. I think that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as I could. The aftermath of the identities being revealed was not explored as much as I would have liked. I felt like it left off where the middle of the book would be.
Beautifully Romantic
I devoured this story in a short time because I couldn't tear myself away from it. I loved it from beginning to end. There is nothing like romance mixed with a Prince. Nico and Julia were so much fun to follow. I laughed, I cried and I was delighted by their tempestuous relationship. A highly recommended read. Teri's books are addictive!
I tried reading this one (free on xoxoafter dark this month). But the heroine annoyed me after her tirade about royals, srsly, sure the Roman ones were effed up but I am pretty sure they had troubles too.
The trope sounded so cute, but alas no
**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Royally Roma is the first book in The Royals series by Teri Wilson. Royally Roma is a modern retelling of the classic Audrey Hepburn film Roman Holiday. I found Royally Roma to be a fun whirlwind adventure romance. I can't wait to read more of The Royals series. In Royally Roma we get to see a crowned prince play hooky for a bit, and finally let loose and have some fun. This was a light hearted, feel good romance. I would recommend reading this book on a Sunday afternoon by the pool.
Royally Roma is the story of Julia and Niccolo. Julia is a grad student working as tour guide, and Niccolo is a frustrated prince who took advantage of an opportunity to get away for a day. Part of me felt bad for Niccolo initially, but part of me was annoyed at his attitude. I know he didn't have much of a life because he was being paraded around from country to country making appearances, but he was certainly more than a little snooty at times, which made it hard for me to feel totally bad for him. But most of the time, he really amused me. I liked seeing how amused he was with Julia, who had no idea who he was at first. She thought he was her client, Mano Romano. hahah that name still cracks me up. I liked watching Julia and Niccolo spar, especially the talks they had about royalty.
Royally Roma was not totally without drama ad roadblocks. Niccolo could not hide his identity forever, and he is eventually found out, thus causing some issues. But overall, I really enjoyed the development of this story. It was largely light-hearted fun and the romance ended up being really sweet and satisfying. I can't wait for more in this series. Teri Wilson did a great job writing a fun, feel good book.
Nico is a sly man especially when he finds out that tour guide Julia Costa doesn’t know who he is. It is a complete breath of fresh air when he can be himself around a person who doesn’t actually know who he is. I love this element to the book because it is two people being real and themselves. That for me is such an important element in this book because it showcases the person they are without having to pretend.
Nico caught my heart from the beginning, he’s funny, cute and sexy which makes it more appealing to read. There is this gentle quality about him. He’s a gentle royal teddy bear but he’s also protective and he can’t seem to pin down why he is that protective towards Julia.
Julia is a character I love. She’s real and just trying to make an honest living with the job that she has which makes her so relatable to the readers. She was very relatable to me which makes me more attached to her.
This story is a gem, it’s rare that I am so invested in their happiness, willing them to grasp the chances that they have and to make the most of it. A book that can blow you away and make you feel for them is a 5 star in my book and I’m excited to read the next book, as and when it is released.
I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was really adorable. I love retellings, and even though I haven't seen Roman Holiday in a long time, it was really cool to see things modern and the genders flipped.
Julia spends two days showing Nico around the beautiful city of Rome only to find out that - gasp! - he's secretly a prince. Though Rome enchants the potential lovers, will the ghosts of their pasts come back to haunt them?
Royally Roma was an easy, delightful read with engaging characters and wonderful descriptions of Rome. I can't think of a way to make it better. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.
