✨ Book Review: OOO by Mary J.E. Nitti, illustrated by Beth Georgen Geib ✨

From the very first page, OOO felt like a hug in book form. Mary J.E. Nitti takes something so simple, the playful “oo” sound, and turns it into a joyful journey through a child’s day.

As a mom, I couldn’t help but smile at the way familiar moments, from the rooster’s morning crow to a gentle nighttime tuck-in, were woven together with words ending in “oo.” It’s clever, musical, and filled with heart.

Reading this aloud felt like a game—my inner child instantly wanted to join in with the “oo” rhymes, and I loved reading this one over and over again.

Ooo is also one of those rare books that’s both fun and sneakily educational, helping little ones develop an ear for sounds and language while making memories together.

Beth Georgen Geib’s illustrations are just as warm and inviting as the story itself. The pictures are full of charm and cozy details, the kind that make kids linger on the page and ask questions. It’s the perfect balance of whimsy and tenderness, bringing each “oo” word to life in the sweetest way.

OOO is more than a book. It is a bonding moment, a giggle shared, a bedtime favorite in the making. This one is absolutely staying on our shelf for years to come.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Five glowing stars from both me and my inner child.

So, honestly, the target audience for this one is Kid 4, but I had Kid 1 read it to her a few times and she simply kept saying, “DONE!” and clapping at the end (not sure that’s helpful, babe!) So here’s what the Bigs & I thought:

Kid 1 and Kid 2 both said it was too short, but that they liked the funny illustrations because “look at their little O mouths” (lol). Kid 2’s favorite page was the dad’s sneeze. (I was partial to the Grandma, myself!)

They aren’t wrong about the illustrations; they were adorable! However, I disagree with them and think this is the *perfect* length for a board book. The almost two year old ACTUALLY sat for it a few times and I could read the short text before she’d get the page turned on me. (IYKYK.) That is a *win*. It’s also one of those that is truly fun to read. Not some unbearable story with no flow. Cute and SO good for toddlers working on letter sounds!
⁣⁣
And “[Kid 3] what did you like about this?” “EVERYthing!” So, there ya have it! Thank you, @dartfrogbooks

QOTD: Do you have a LEAST favorite children’s book? (“Goodnight Moon” is a no thanks for me!🙊🙈)

Ooo is a super sweet story, perfect for the littles in your life. Full of colorful illustrations and relatable references, it’s a great picture book for curious kids and bedtime routines.

Ooo isn’t really the kind of book that tells a story with a traditional beginning, middle, and end. However, it is the kind of book that serves as a great introduction to the world of literature- early exposure so important for a lifetime love of literacy.

What makes children books extra engaging are the illustrations, and illustrator Beth Georgen Geib’s pictures do not disappoint, complementing that cuteness that was created by author, Mary J.E. Nitti.

So if you are in the market for adding to the child in your life’s budding collection, consider adding Ooo to your shelves!

ad - ooo - rable!

I have a thing for children’s books. Especially those with art in them.
I love seeing books that have the potential to turn kids into readers. I love seeing the many ways books can be used to make kids more curious, more interested in the world around them, more interested in language, and more interested in just exploring what this paper “book” thing actually is.
This little book here is one of those first tiny steppingstones. Cute, adorable. Fun, lovely. Easy to read, easy to love. Babies love weird sounds. Toddlers, too, love weird sounds. And this little book is full of weird ooo sounds. The art is cute - big, bold paper applique style illustrations in bright colors, each illustration goes well with the tiny ooo text on each page.

This is such a cute, rhyming children's picture book. The pictures are vibrant and fun, with each page rhyming a short line or two with the page before. When my boys were little, these types of books were their favorite. It's easy to read in a sing-song voice to keep your little one entertained. The cow and ghost page might have been my favorite. As you read this picture book to your little one, you see how many things can rhyme with "ooo" like animals, trains, ghosts, and different phrases or sounds people make.

I know children’s books aren’t something I usually review, but had to showcase this cute little story for my momma friends looking for an easy read with their littles.

This book teaches rhyming and goes over all the words and sounds that rhyme with “oo” From the rooster in the morning, to an owl in the night, you’re following along throughout the course of entire day as all the sounds come to life on the pages.

The illustrations are also adorable and vibrant… definitely eye-catching!

Pick this cute read up if you’re looking for a picture book for your little one!

I love this sweet story and the way it's written to appeal to both children and caregivers. The rhyming sounds are both soothing and educational as well as depicting a day highlighting the use of the "ooo" sound. The illustrations are charming and invite conversation and learning as you turn the pages. This is a story I would have memorized from reading so often as my son and I both enjoyed the quality time spent together and with this delightful book.

I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
