Powerhouse M.A. #1

Dropkick My Heart

Rate this book
Kellan Countless hours of practice, and enough determination to succeed no matter the cost is what has brought Kellan to standing at the door to his life coming full circle. Life on the competition circuit was fast-paced, and exciting, but now Kellan is ready to settle down, and stay in his own bed for longer than a week. Opening Powerhouse Martial Arts with his three best friends was just what they all needed to showcase their skills from traditional forms, all the way to show-style sport tricking. Kellan thought he had it all figured out, except he didn't figure in the sassy barista next door. Molly For seven years, Molly saved every penny she had to buy the quirky coffeeshop on the corner. Lattes, cappuccinos, espresso. You name it, Molly can make it. Early mornings slinging coffee, and late nights thinking up the next new coffee craze leaves Molly little time to have a life. Her customers have become her family, and she would do anything to keep her customers happy. Even venturing over to the new Martial Arts studio next door, and asking them to keep the screaming and grunting to a minimum. Surely one doesn't need to scream so much, right? With Molly throwing down the gauntlet to quiet down or shut down, Kellan does the only thing he can do. Take off the sparring gloves, and show the barista just what Powerhouse Martial Arts is all about. Strength, style, & taking no prisoners.

This was a crazy dance between two characters who were perfect for each other but they just fought it in the funniest way. They waged wars on their own heart but made it funny and exciting while we rooted them on. This story had a crazy funny and energetic cast of secondary characters. I really am anticipating amazing things ahead for them all.

I requested to review this book because of the cover, the title, Karate and COFFEE! I am so happy that I decided to review it, not only did I get the opportunity to read a good book but I also found a new to me author who has a backlist I can binge on!

Dropkick My Heart is the first book in a new series by Winter Travers. Molly has successfully fulfilled her dream of owning a successful coffee shop, things are going great for Molly until a new Karate Dojo opens and starts causing noise concerns. Molly decides to go next door to politely ask the four sexy, alpha men who own Powerhouse, if they could lower the volume of the grunting and screaming, instead of a friendly conversation she is met with contempt, interest and a refusal to lower the volume from Kellan one of the four owners. From this one meeting we are taken on a wild ride filled with hilarity, pranks, combustible chemistry, a battle of wills and two people finding love when they least expect it.

Dropkick My Heart is a fun read with two great main characters, zany secondary characters and a story that will have you laughing and smiling throughout! I am so looking forward to the rest of the series and reading Ms. Travers’ backlist!

I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the authors other books but it was still good. It took way too long for them to get together in this one and the h had to chase after the H. I like it the other way around.

I read the sampler and it did not grab my attention. The writing was mediocre. The sampler that was provided...the hero complained about his business partners being lazy and the heroine complained about the "book club moaners", which she admitted helped her business as a cafe owner.
The characters do not even meet in the sampler. I did not want to chance $2.99 when I was unsure how the story would go. I never had heard of this author and a lot of the reviews looked like they were ARCs so that it me leery of the "recommendations". I wish it was on KU. I would give it more of a chance.

This is my opinion. You may read it and love it. Reading is subjective. These are just my notes.

Dropkick my heart by Winter Travers a high kicking five-star read. This is the first book in the Powerhouse M.A. series, and it really does kick off with a bang. This is the first book by this author I have read, but it won’t be the last, I have to finish this series, I need to hear more about the boys from Powerhouse as wicked as they are they certainly have more to their stories, as well as a major love of cookies, both of which I approve of.
Kung Fu Hottie as Powerhouse Martial Arts owner Kellan Wright is known is a dedicated to his art, he has spent years on the Martian Arts circuit it was fast paced and exciting and everything that a young man would want, but as he and his buddies Dante, Tate and Roman got older they decided that opening the Dojo was the better option, that is all they think about, until they receive a complaint about the noise level, things will never be the same and all of the boys will need to work out extra hard after the complaint.
Molly Rey has spent years of her life making the Java Spot a place to be, she has her crowds of regulars, some she loves more than others, and one old lady who I am scared I am turning into..(Bess and me could be the same person it’s scary) Molly makes a mean Latte, Cappuccino, espresso or you could try one of her new inventions, she bakes like a dream and I am sure just reading the book I put on about 10 pounds, just reading about the cookies and brownies… mmm. Java Spot is a haven for people until that is the Powerhouse boys are training next door, when those guys go to town they make some noises and Molly finds it a little distracting, one Kung Fu hotties noises in particular keep Molly up at night, and not in the way she wants.
This book was so funny, It will keep you hooked from the first page to the last.

Kellan is part owner of Powerhouse Martial Arts with his three best friends, after he the competition circuit became old. He didn't count on a sassy neighbor. Molly has saved every penny she had for the past seven years to buy the quirky coffee shop on the corner. She has little time for a life with trying to become successful, and her customers have become her family. That family had her going next door to the Martial Arts Studio to ask them to keep the screaming and grunting down. This is where the fun begins. I really enjoyed this story, although it did take me a bit to really become invested, but once I was, I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. Let me tell you, I'm an adult, but I have no problems owning the fact that Kellan and Molly's antics had me rolling in laughter. Like spit out my drink laughing, and I needed that in spades after this week. This is the first time that I've read anything by Winter Travers, and I need more. Her talented writing style was addicting, especially with the perfectly placed humor making my sides hurt from laughing. Yes, I keep mentioning this fact, but the hilarious antics were my favorite part. I cannot wait to read more by her, especially her MC series, so I'll just end with HIGHLY RECOMMENDING this hilarious story! (Have you figured out that it's hilarious by now? 😆)

This is the first in the Powerhouse M. A. Series and it starts the series off with a "Aya!"

We are introduced to Kellan, one of the owners of Powerhouse M. A., the new kids on the block and Molly, owner of the local coffee joint.

Kellan and Molly are now neighbors and Molly does not quite understand the noise level that Powerhouse M. A. sometimes has so she decides to take it to the business committee that she happens to be vice president of.

Kellan is not impressed and his answer is to prank Molly thus starting a prank war.

Neither of them saw what was coming next.

I won't share but I will share my favorite passage:

"I can barely get one man, Bess. I think I'll leave the mènage to your romance books." She tsked and started wiping down the counter. "Ain't nothing wrong with bringing a little romance novel to real life. We all need to find our Prince Charing who can fuck us all night then go out to get donuts in the morning."

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

I love reading any book by Winter Travis. Whenever I read one of her books I know its going to be funny, cute and so damn good

Kellan just opened his karate studio next to Molly's Java Spot. So far everything has been going good for him, but now his nosy neighbor is complaining about the noise his studio is making.
Molly's business is doing well but now her next door neighbors are making so much noise that some of her customers are complaining.

And this is what starts the 'war' between Molly and Kellan and no one wants to give in. Practical jokes are hilarious, but the chemistry between these are so HOT, eventually when they take a break from their 'war'.

Funny, Hot and so good. An awesome start to her new series.

This is the first book I've read by Winter Travers and I can say she's gained a new reader. I loved this one! The characters are great and engaging. Great chemistry between the characters. The humor in this was my favorite part. I laughed out lot several times. I can honestly say i gobbled this one right up. I couldn't put it down I got so caught up in the book. I just loved Molly. She's a little awkward and nerdy, but so endearing. She's got some grit when it comes down to it. Kellan and his buddies who run Powerhouse are one big sexy package. Kellan is my favorite so far of the bunch. I liked his personality and watching him fall when it comes to Molly was great. I'm so looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.

This was a break from Ms. Travers MC series and I loved this book. Kellan and his 3 friends open a martial arts studio, Powerhouse once they stop traveling the tournament circuit. Business is taking off for the four best friends when they meet Molly the owner of the coffee shop right next-door. Molly just want to sit down and talk like adults about the noise volume disturbing her customers. The conversation doesn't go as planned and that leads to hijinks and mayhem for both parties. Will they find an amicable solution to the noise level?

The chemistry between Kellan and Molly is off the charts but they try and hide it from each other. Everyone around them sees it but they are just blind to what's right in front of them. Will Molly be swept up in everything Kellan?

** I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

MMA + a coffeehouse? Yes please.
Be prepared, the men of Powerhouse Martial Arts are going to get under your skin, make you laugh and turn you on!
I loved Molly even though I think she was a bit overboard at times. She gets something in her head and is determined to see it through, even if it may not be as big an issue as she initially thought.
Kellen is hardheaded as well, but in all fairness he has good reason to stand his ground and retaliate.
Dropkick My Heart is hilarious, the back and forth banter, the childish pranks (though one is absolutely 100% adult and bordering on dangerous) and the attraction between Kellen & Molly makes for one great read that will keep you turning the pages, maybe a little quicker towards the end, rushing to find out what happens.

Dropkick My Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book 1) by Winter Travers is the first book in her new series. This story has a little bit of everything in it, you will find yourself laughing throughout the book and of course you can't forget the romance. You will love how this author has a talent to create characters that are true to life and really will just make you laugh. These characters will take you on a journey that will keep you engaged until the end. You will enjoy how these characters connect with each other and how you will relate to them. Find out what happens to these characters as their relationship turns into something neither one of them will see coming.

Kellan is a man who has a determination to succeed at all costs and that is what has brought him where he is today. After continuous hours of practice and life on the road with competitions, he is finally ready to settle down. He and his friends have opened up Powerhouse Martial Arts what just what they needed to show their traditional forms to show style sport tricking. He thought that he had it all figured out until he met his sassy barista next door. What will he do? Will he give in to her or will he get her to give in to him?

Molly has spent the last seven years putting every penny she has into her quirky coffee shop on the corner. With making lattes, espressos, and cappuccinos and trying new creations, she has no time for living. Her customers have become her family and she would do anything to keep them happy. She goes as far as to go next door to ask the marital arts business to quiet down some, who needs to scream that load, right? What will happen when she throws down the hammer and tells him to quiet down or close? Will she find out what he is all about before this is over? Will she submit to him or how far will she take this?

Kellan and Molly's relationship is one that starts out with an attraction that neither one is willing to admit to themselves. Their bantering back and forth will leave you in stitches. There is only one way for things to change and will they come to an agreement? They are unable to stop thinking about each other but the question remains, will they act on this attraction they have? Both of these characters are strong, as they are both sassy and know what they want. Sometimes, I wonder if they will ever figure out what is right in front of them. Neither one was expecting to meet the other let alone an attraction. You will enjoy how these two connect and find yourself pulling for their HEA. The secondary characters in this story are just as funny as the main characters. You will fully enjoy how all these characters really make this story flow until the end.

This is my first story by Winter Travers and I know it won't be the last. I can't wait to read another one of her books and see what she has coming for us next. Winter was born and raised in Wisconsin then moved to North Carolina where she met her husband. Now they live farther north to the changing seasons. She is a devoted wife and aunt who turned author. She spends her days writing her happily ever afters and her nights zipping around with her forklift at work. You will enjoy her writing style and how fast paced it is. It will keep you engaged until the end and leaving you wanting more. I had a hard time putting this book down at times. I highly recommend this story as I know you will enjoy it as much as I have.

I've read the second book in this series because it can be read as a standalone, but the main characters from this book were secondary characters in that book, so I really wanted to read their story! I started reading this book just after I had finished the second book and I loved this book just as much as the second book! The plot did develop at a nice pace and this book only took me a few sittings to read! I'll admit that I was expecting maybe some action and suspense in the plot because the second book didn't have any, but there wasn't any in this book either lol! I love some action and suspense in the plot of any book, so I was slightly disappointed that this book didn't have any! The plot of this book was mostly a game of pranks and the characters getting back at each other! I did love the pranks and some of them were very funny and actually brought all the characters closer! I also loved that the two main characters didn't fall in love instantly and it actually took them quite a while to do so! The plot also had a few seriously hot scenes in it near the end between them! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Molly was the main female character, and in this book she was very easy for me to connect with and I had a lot of respect for her! She had built a successful business and worked really hard to keep it that way! Molly also made me laugh a lot in this book! I especially loved the scene were she went to the karate session! That particular scene made me laugh a lot! Molly was also funny with her love interest and it was easy to see the two of them start to develop feelings for each other! I loved them as a couple! Kellan was the main male character and love interest of Molly! Kellan was seriously hot in this book! He was also a funny guy and he had worked hard to get to where he was with his business! I had a lot of respect for him because of how hard he had worked! Kellan was also easy for me to connect with and I loved the way that Kellan was with Molly! He was seriously hot with her and it was easy to see his feelings for her develop! He was very loving towards her too and they made quite a couple! I loved that this book was written from both Molly and Kellan's point of views! I was expecting it to be because the synopsis makes it sound like it was going to be written from both characters point of views, so I'm really happy that it was! It helped me connect more with both characters and it also allowed for more things to happen in the plot too, especially since the characters spent some of the book apart! I also wish that this book had continued Molly and Kellan story! I felt like it was just getting started when it ended lol! I also can't wait to read more books from this author! I've now read the two books in this series, and I'm excited to read the third! I hope Molly and Kellan make some appearances in it! I've also grabbed copies of this author's Skid Row Kings series, so I can't wait to give them a read too! I also love the cover for this book! It definitely made me want to pick up the book and I love the karate aspect to it like the cover for the second book! I also love the colour of the writing and the cover model is perfect for Kellan!

Dropkick My Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book 1)
By: Winter Travers
5 out of 5 stars

The story Dropkick My Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book 1) by Winter Travers is a sports romance book. Kellan along with his three best friends have opened a Martial Arts business together. They were together on the competition circuit and while it was fast and exciting, Kellan now wants a more stable life. Molly is happy with owning her own coffee shop and loves to think up new coffee drinks and keeping her customer’s happy. She has her regulars coming in and always takes the time to visit with them. She never expected what a firestorm that a simple request to keep the noise down next door would create. Both of them are digging in their heels. What could possibly happen next?

This is a story that had me laughing really hard at some of the antics that both Kellan and Molly use once their feud is on. It also had me craving coffee and cookies. As the story progresses you can tell that both Kellan and Molly are falling for each other and I was rooting for them all the way. This is the first book I have read by the author and she is an amazing writer and you come to love the characters she has created. Molly is a very hard working person who spends seven days a week making sure that her customers are taken care of. This doesn’t leave much room for a personal life or a romantic relationship. Her best friend works with her at the coffee shop and is always trying to get Molly to go out more often. Even more so when she sees who owns the Martial Arts business. I love the bantering back and forth between everyone. I found it one of the reasons I loved the book so much. Even as tensions are high Molly begins to have different feelings for Kellen. Will she act on them? Will Molly and Kellen find a way to smooth out their differences and then act on their newfound emotions for each other?

Kellen seems to do a lion’s share of the work that the new business that he and his friends have started. He loves to teach the classes and martial arts is a way of life for him, not just a way to make money. He really cares about his students. At first, he seems to be quite dismissive of Molly and is ready to take her on when things escalate. Somewhere along the way, his feelings begin to change. What is in the cards for these two, a final showdown or something totally different? Read this story to find out what happens. This is the first book in the Powerhouse M.A. series and I can’t wait to read the next one. This story does include adult situations which would make it a story for those 18 years of age or older.

Dropkick My Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book 1) by Winter Travers

5 Stars

Molly, owner of Java Spot Coffee House, she worked her butt off for 5 years making it the success it is. She has loyal regular customers, an amazing best friend with a little boy Molly just adores. She doesn't have a life outside of her coffee house. Constantly trying to come up with that one perfect combination for a coffee drink that would have everyone raving takes up her evenings and being open everyday and doing everything to make her customers happy takes up all her days. She is happy with her life and the people in it, she really hasn't thought about a relationship with anyone because they would just get bored with her and walk away so why put herself through that.

Kellan, part owner of Powerhouse, a martial arts school, along with his three best friends. Their goal 6 months ago when they opened was to have a karate studio unlike any other, with each bringing their own specialty to the mix. They had all been on the competition circuit, always on the go, and in Kellan’s case it was time to settle down and be able to sleep in his own bed more than a week at a time. His life was busy with all the private lessons and classes he taught, but his determination to succeed made everything worth it. Even when the neighboring business owner right next door started complaining about all the grunting and screaming and asked him to keep it down.

When Molly started getting complaints from her customers about the noise coming from the karate studio next door, she decided it was time to visit the owners of said studio. She had not realized just how HOT these guys were, but that didn't stop her from asking them to keep it down, which didn't go over well with Kellan. Their first meeting ended up not being very successful, it actually seemed like war was being declared.

I really liked this book, it was fun, and the stunts that were pulled on both sides were hilarious. The loyal customers of the coffee house were so much fun and were always there to offer help and advice, even when Molly didn't ask for it. You could feel it the minute feelings started to change between Molly and Kellan, but could constant misunderstandings halt anything between them before it even got a chance to start? I can't wait for the next book in this series :)

Molly Rye is the coffee Queen, if it’s not on the menu it soon will be. With the speed and flourish of the new flavours she constantly come up with are always a hit and leaves people wanting more of her special blends. You want a coffee with a peppermint twist? No problem. You want a coffee with hazelnut twirl, she’s your girl. Molly works with her bestie and has her motley crue of feisty, quirky and opinionated customers that make her day complete. Seeing them satisfied and happy is not only her bread and butter, they are as necessary as the air she breathes, they have become her family, and she would do anything for them as they would for her.

Kellan and his three best friends since forever have finally made their dream come true. The dream of them coming together and opening the Powerhouse Martial Arts studio. Teaching others their passion is what they love to do. Making a success is a given, failing is not in their vocabulary for these Alpha males. They spent years honing their skill sets, hours and hours of practice and continuous competitions have made them what they are today. Kellan wants an easy life and would give anything if he could spend a week in his bed not having to worry about anything.

When Molly decides to visit the boys at the Martial Arts Studio to ask them to keep all the noise down, a perfectly reasonable request, right? she got more than she bargained for.

When Kellan and the boys hear what this woman from next door wants his life is turned upside down. What she wants is unreasonable, right?

When the gloves come off and all bets are off, anything goes, there is only war. The battle of wills is on, there is no backing away. Stubbornness is the dish of the day. Coffee, Karate, sassy females and Alpha males at it’s best. What more could you want? Will they learn to live with each other? Will the feud ever end? Who will win the battle of wills?

I must say this book is a fun read. The characters had me laughing at their crazy antics, their feisty bantering and incredible chemistry, not to mention a dash of romance. A good read that I recommend to all.

Dropkick my heart follows the story of Kellan a martial arts superstar and Molly a café owner, how different their worlds are will they be able to see the chemistry streaming between and take a chance on love.

Kellan and his friends have had enough of competing and decide to open a martial arts studio, Powerhouse. The business is doing really well until they get a visitor from a young woman come bearing gifts. Molly has been receiving complaints from her customers to say that there are loud grunts and banging from the adjoining wall which just happens to be Powerhouse, so Molly now finds herself standing at the door to the gym awaiting for the guys to answer. There she saw him gorgeous hunky man but when Molly tries to explain to them if they could kept the noise down she is then dismissed from the gym with the silver fox and Alpha hunk begin laughing at her and she leaves feeling dishearten.

So over the next few weeks the noise becomes worse so Molly has no choice but to report them to the business committee, once the notice is served to Powerhouse they know who has reported them and make it their mission to cause Molly as much disruption as possible. So running up to the meeting the guys and Molly go back and forth with practical jokes to try and outdo each other until Kellan leaves it in the hands of Tate who is known for his radical jokes. So as Kellan is in the shop, he and Molly understand what the practical joke is when they end up being covered in dishwasher detergent. After this episode they decide to call a truce and that’s when the true chemistry bubbles to the surface.

As the story goes on you get to see the softer side of Kellan and that the pressure which he and the other guys was under while competing has worn away at them. The secondary characters in the story are great and I would love to grow up and be Bess the leader of the Monday Moaners or the wacky side kick Sage, I would love to see her looking for love especially in the Powerhouse direction and a certain silver fox, Dante. This is the first book I have read by this author and can’t wait to read Tate’s story next.

Kellan:
And his three friends Tate. Roman and Dante started their own Karate business which they have called Powerhouse. Kellan. Roman and Tate first met when they started karate, Dante already there took them under his wing. With their own business, they were aware that they had to help the children in the same way they were helped and as a result Powerhouse was now a successful business.

Molly:
Had finally achieved her lifelong dream of owning her own coffee shop which she named Java Spot. Helping her with her business is her best friend Sage. Every Monday a book reading group attended her coffee shop to discuss the romance novels they had read over the weekend. Bess had mentioned the noise coming from Powerhouse to Sage but she had not thought to tell Molly until Bess told her again and that one of the reading group members left because of it. Molly was not happy and decided to listen for the noise and when the shop was shut for the day she indeed heard the noise coming through the wall into her shop. Sage told her she needed to go sort it out.

Powerhouse Vs Java Spot:
Molly took some cookies she had made to Powerhouse when she had a chat with them. After banging on the door, they eventually heard her and were quite snappy with her telling her they were closed and shut the door on her. Once again Molly banged on the door and this time she had Kellan to deal with. Telling Kellan that they needed to cut the noise down as it filters through to the coffee shop. He told her no as the noise was the sign of them breathing and she told them she didn’t care. Seeing as he refused Molly got in touch with the Business Owners Committee. When Kellan received the letter from them he was furious, the meeting was a month away. Kellan told the others at Powerhouse if that’s the way she wants to play it he would play to.
Let the games begin!

What games would both Powerhouse and Java Spot play against each other?

Dropkick my Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book #1)
Winter Travers
5 Star Review

Dropkick my Heart by Winter Travers is a five star read not only for the total hotness of the characters but also for the fun and sense of humor in the storyline.

Kellan Wright, along with 3 hot friends, opens the MMA gym Powerhouse business together. They have grown up together spending years on the competition circuit, but Kellan and his friends want something stable. But, who would have thought that opening the Dojo next to a coffee shop would have created a prank war between the boys and Molly, the owner of the shop.

Molly Rey, currently living her dream of having a successful coffee shop that is until the sounds coming from the Powerhouse that she feels is unnecessary and disturbing her customers. Molly has a cohort in crime in her friend Sage and of course the crazy woman Bess from the Moaners Book Club, is having a good time helping her out.

Kellan and Molly butt heads over her request to quiet down. She offers cookies as a way to smooth things over and hopefully makes Kellan and his friends see reason. But once the pranks start that when the real fun begins in this story, this story had me laughing out loud, I loved the pure fun of their relationship. Molly and Kellan begin to see the other in different light; both are hardworking and love their customers.

This story was so much fun to read, it was nice to see characters have fun while falling in love. Kellan is still the alpha male that is sexy, but he also enjoys a good prank and when he figures out what he wants he doesn’t back down. Molly is a confident business owner who is self-conscious of her quirkiness, except when she is letting down her guard during prank wars, that when she lets go. I can’t wait till the next book in the series and I am looking forward to the “silver fox” getting his own story.

Dropkick My Heart is the first book in the Powerhouse MA series by Winter Travers. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I don’t know how I haven’t come across her books before now! I loved this book and what a great introduction to a new author! For me this book had everything, funny moments, romance, some great main and secondary characters and a really nice storyline unlike anything I have ever read before. Not only did this book have a pretty sexy male lead in Kellan but an awesome female lead in Molly! I absolutely loved her!!
I think it’s pretty clear to say that Molly and Kellan get off on the wrong foot and have one fabulous love/hate relationship! They provided many laugh out loud moments for me during the story and a few ahh ones too! The chemistry between then sizzled all the way through the book!
I really loved the setting of the story which is mainly in Molly’s coffee shop. I loved the secondary characters that were introduced here such as Molly’s best friend, Sage, and ‘The Moaners’ I’m pretty sure I can guess the kind of stories they read in their book group!! I think I really liked Molly because she was just so down to earth but she also had this feisty side and there was no way she was going to let Kellan and his friends from the Martial Arts studio next door get away with not listening to her!
I really liked Kellan. He was quite a serious character, his business clearly meant the world to him and he, like Molly, wasn’t going to stand for someone coming in and trying to tell him what he should and shouldn’t be doing.
I thought that the story was really well written. It flowed well and was a really easy read. The characters were great, likeable and down to earth. I can’t wait to read more by this author and I certainly can’t wait for the next book in this series!

“Dropkick My Heart” is the first full-length novel in the Powerhouse M. A. series by Winter Travers and will make readers want to hit the mat with the men of Powerhouse!

After years on the tournament circuit, Kellan is ready for stability and a place to call his own. Opening Powerhouse Martial Arts with his three friends allows him to put down roots and devote himself to what he loves. Unfortunately, at times Kellan feels like he’s the only one who wants the studio to be a success. The last thing he wants to deal with is a feisty barista with opinions on how his business should be run.

Molly spends her days pouring everything she has into her quirky coffee shop and her nights thinking of delicious new drinks. The last thing she needs in life is a group of men grunting and yelling and scaring away her customers. Maybe her new business neighbors can be won over with cookies and a simple request. Or maybe not.

When the gauntlet is thrown, will these two be able to solve their differences or will war be declared?

I love the funny, well-developed characters in this book! Not only is the interaction between the two main characters detailed, the secondary characters have their moments to shine too. (Bess is absolutely delightful and I missed her when I finished the last page. Hopefully she makes appearances in the rest of the series.) That’s what really made the book for me -- all the characters coming together to create a world that as a reader I could lose myself in. The story flows quickly and I couldn’t wait to see what pranks Kellan and Molly would think of next. The author did an amazing job of balancing humor and sexual tension and maintaining a believable, thoughtful plot.

Give this 5-star read a chance and add “Love on the Mat” to your queue while you’re at it. You’ll want to be ready for more Powerhouse men!

Dropkick My Heart is the first book in the Powerhouse M.A series and what a way to start a series. The way Molly and Kellan meet under negative circumstances to the shift on how they feel for each other until it sucker punches them was well written.

Kellen Wright owns Powerhouse which teaches martial arts with his three best friends Dante, Tate and Roman; and he loves his job. He gets to do what he loves with his three best friends and the school is getting more popular as the days’ pass. Things are going great, that is until the neighbor and owner of the coffee shops comes over to discuss their noise during her working hours.

Molly Rey owns the very successful Java Spot Coffee House and loves her job. She is always thinking of new drinks all the time but has no life since she is at the shop more than anywhere else. Everything is smooth until one of her regulars mentions hearing the noises from the school next door. She won’t leave it alone even though there have been other regulars that say it isn’t a big deal. She goes over to talk to them about the noise with a tray of cookies in hand. Dante goes straight for the cookies and Kellen comes at her with attitude. The first shots of the war had been fired.

The pranks Kellen and Molly played on one another were great and I love what each one of the supporting characters brings to the story and I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much without them. Not sure if I liked Sage, Molly’s best friend or Roman better of the main supporting characters but Bess and the Moaners cracked me up. This book has a happy for now ending and I would highly recommend getting into this series now so you can wait with me for the next installment.

DropKick My Heart by Winter Travers
Four Stars

DropKick My Heart is the first book in the Powerhouse M.A. Series by Winter Travers. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Travers. This Rom Com was really enjoyable to read. I found myself laughing out loud through the whole book. I have to say I loved reading about the “Monday Moaners”. Ms. Travers character descriptions really brought the characters to life with witty banter. This book had me hooked from page one.

Molly has finally reached her goal of owning a thriving coffee shop where she can make special recipes for her coffees, cappuccinos, and lattes. She has spent the last seven years building a business that everyone in town enjoys. She really doesn't have a personal life, but all of her customers are like family to her. So when one of the Monday Moaners tells her the Martial Arts Studio is too loud for their book group to talk, Molly decides to go talk to one of the owner about keeping the noise down. She doesn't expect to feel an instant spark.

Kellan and his three best friend went together to open their own martial arts studio, Powerhouse Martial Arts. They are determined to be the best, and Kellan is working hard to make their dream come true. His hard work is paying off they are adding students at a rapid rate. Everything is on course when the sassy barista from the coffee shop next door comes over to give him her mind about the noise generated by his studio. Sparks fly. Their conversations are are truly funny.

Will these two let their guard down and let the attraction in? The way they bicker back and forth it's as if they can't see the attraction that is right in front of them. Will there be a happily ever after? This book was a real page turner and I can't wait for the next book the series.

Dropkick My Heart by Winter Travers

Dropkick My Heart is Book #1 in Winter Travers’ Powerhouse M.A. Series. It is a cute and funny contemporary romance that I give 5 stars. The story follows Kellan, a competitive martial artist who's had enough of the demanding fast-paced lifestyle, as he decides to settle down a bit and fulfill his plan of opening his own martial arts studio with his best friends. Powerhouse Martial Arts opens up and gives Kellan and his best friends a chance to show off their skills and make a name for the studio as being the best in town.

Molly is a hard-working, coffee shop owner, that loves her job, her “regulars”, and coming up with new coffee drinks. With the coffee shop being next door to the Martial Arts studio, all of loud grunts and yells from the athletes can be heard in her shop. Once Molly decides to confront the boys next door the pranks and fun begin.

Kellan and Molly had chemistry from the start. Their playfulness and attempts to win the “prank war” were very funny. I loved the feistiness and banter between the two of them, and really enjoyed the book. Not only were Kellan and Molly likable characters, but the others mentioned in the story were also people you'd really want to get to know. The fun inevitably turned into more between the two main characters just like I had hoped.

I had actually read Book #2 in the series, Love on the Mat, before this one and didn't feel like that ruined anything. Both books in the series have been ones I started and didn't want to put down. I have found a new author that I enjoy and I look forward to reading more of her work. I'd definitely recommend this book, and this series, to others.

Dropkick My Heart (Powerhouse M.A. Book 1) by Winter Travers 5 stars
I learn something new every single day. The day I read Dropkick My Heart, I learned the M.A. after a book title means Martial Arts. I had never really thought about it before. This is my first M.A. book and I was intrigued by some of the rituals involved. (Bowing before getting on mats, no shoes, homework for belts, etc.). I really did like this book.

The Powerhouse M.A. Series is about 4 friends who open Powerhouse Martial Arts Center after “retiring” from competition. I’m guessing this is going to be a 4-6 book series and I will look forward to reading each and every one because these guys are hot and kind and alpha and… (You get the picture).

Powerhouse Martial Arts Center is in a strip mall located directly next to Java Spot Coffee House (not Java Hut). Kellan is the first “bad a** ninja” we meet. We are introduced to him when the owner of Java Spot goes over to P.H. to complain about the noise. Molly is met with resistance and the fireworks and antics begin.

A word about Java Spot: Java Spot is home to the Monday Moaners book club. The Moaners meet every Monday, sit in the same corner and discuss the latest romance novels. They have discussions such about whether you can have sex on a bike while it’s moving etc. The Monday Moaners would absolutely give this story 5 stars.

This was a super funny, very quick read for me, the characters were quickly developed and the story has a beginning, middle and an end. There was no guessing when it came to this story. I very much enjoyed it and would recommend it to my “Monday Moaners book club” to discuss.
