Lady Sophie MacIntyre has the voice of an angel, but due to her timid nature, no one ever hears it. After losing a bet to her conniving sister, Sophie auditions for the new musicale at the Regal Theatre run by handsome actor Zachary Newland. Though distracted by Zach’s elegant masculinity and her own nerves, she sings well and earns a role in the production.
Zach is a confirmed bachelor, and his taste in women leans toward the glamorous and uninhibited…until he meets the demure Sophie. Her delicate soprano and understated beauty captivate him. She responds to his inappropriate kiss, but quickly dismisses the heat between them. She’s a lady of the peerage, after all, and not one to associate with a rake like him.
Zach, however, is not so easily dissuaded. He gets what he wants, and he intends to help Sophie find her true voice…in more ways than one.
#1 New York Times, #1 USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Helen Hardt's passion for the written word began with the books her mother read to her at bedtime. She wrote her first story at age six and hasn’t stopped since. In addition to being an award winning author of contemporary and historical romance and erotica, she’s a mother, an attorney, a black belt in Taekwondo, a grammar geek, an appreciator of fine red wine, and a lover of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. She writes from her home in Colorado, where she lives with her family.
I have to say I really wanted to like this book! Unfortunately, I didn't. I do appreciate when authors think outside the box but some of the scenarios were a bit stretched for the time period. The language was jarring and distracted from the story. Zach and Sophie had great potential in the beginning of the story. Unfortunately, superfluous sex and no real connection between the characters made the ending disappointing and flat. This may not have been my cup of tea but I will try this author again for her unique writing style.
Thankful to receive this book from Waterhouse press and Team Wild. Love this series so much. This one was less sexual than the others but still loved it.
Sophie is a very timid woman due to having an abusive father. When she meets Zach Newland up close she is intrigued. He makes her want to open and be the women she should have been. I never expected who was her secret admire. There was a bit of suspense in this one.
1. 3.5 stars. This is my first book from the Sex and the Season series. I've read many of Helen Hardt's other romances and this has to be one of her steamiest books. Zach, the male MC, does it all: he eats the kitty kat, he eats ass, he's into spanking and light bondage. His sexual appetites are much more varied (and written in greater detail) than some of Hardt's other male MCs.
2. I read Mrs. Hardt's books because I love a cowboy MC with a strong alpha male presence, so I wasn't sure if I would like Zach. He's not a cowboy and while he was a Dom in the bedroom, he didn't exhibit some of the Alpha male qualities I've come to love in Hardt's other characters. Although Zach is not one of my favorite male MCs, I did like him. Sophie was just ok to me; not annoying enough to bother me, but not a female character I was all that interested in.
3. There was a very steamy chapter - an "Intermission" to the main story - which left me surprised due to the acts taking place amongst these couples.
4. This book was longer than some of Mrs. Hardt's cowboy romances, which allowed for a more fleshed out and well-developed storyline. Now, this is still an insta-love-based-on-lust romance, but it did not feel as rushed as other books by this author.
Thank you for the series Team Wild, Waterhouse press and Helen Hardt!. So,Book 4 of sex and the season. I wish there was more after this one. So, book 4 is about Sophie's world(in my terms).
Sophie is known for her Angelique voice (hence the title) she is in a bet with her sister Alexandra, which she loses and ends auditioning for Mr.Newland production at the theatre. Sophie from day one has lovely encounters with Mr.Newland. Sophie is so new to everything, she's the shy one and likes to go by the books but she's wiling to change all of that for love. Sophie loves her family very much and well dedicated to them.
Mr. Zach Newland is the theatre owner and he's also an actor. He's a ladies man, he can never stay put with one lady and his reputation is well known. All that changes when he meets Sophie. He sees something different in her that he didn't see in others. Everything changes for him. He also makes her lead soprano in his new production. Can he really fall in love with a girl and commit? Mr.Newland seems to have a person who just wont let go of him, Ms. Nanette(ex lead soprano).Things get a little rocky for him but love can conquer all.
Of all the books in this series, Sophie's story was, to me, the most shocking and unexpected. Sophie had resigned herself to a life of spinsterhood. At the ripe old age of 24😐😐😐, she didn't think marriage was in the cards for her and she had made peace with it, until she meets Mr. Newland. Zachary Newland, the ultimate skirt chasing bachelor, never thought he'd ever be interested in commiting to only one woman. He was used to having his way with a girl and moving on to the next when he got bored. Then Miss Sophie MacIntyre walks into his theatre and both their lives are changed forever. Zach finds Sophie's quiet demeanor and lack of confidence intriguing and won't stop until he knows all there is to know about her. With a little persuasion and alot of patience, he manages to bring Sophie out of her shell. She goes from this quiet, shy, and extremely conventional girl, to having the confidence to try new and exciting things, that would've previously terrified her, inside and outside of the bedroom. I recommend you read this book to find out just how scandalous things get for sweet little Sophie. 😇😉
I was lucky enough to receive this book in a series of books donated to a book club I belong to by Meredith Wilde and Helen hardt and I am truly thankful for that. Historical romances have never been a genre that I willingly would choose but I have greatly enjoyed this series and this boom did not disappoint either. I enjoyed the progress of the characters and how their relationship developed. And there were some things that happened that I didn’t expect so there was definitely a few plot twists. Also I really love that while the main story is based on two characters there are a lot of glimpses of past characters from the other book in the series. Some of the intimate scenes were a bit over the top but overall it was a solid book I would recommend.
Helen is quickly becoming my go to author for historical reads. It is easy to see the amount of research that she does that goes in to each of her pieces. She makes sure that the surrounding events are historically accurate, and brings to light lesser know facts of the era. Case and point -An Introduction to the Marriage Bed by Margaret Mead.
I loved Sophie's voice. I originally thought it was a little lack luster with the antagonist, but I turned a few more pages, and what do you know? Plot twist. She manages to get the sex scenes hot, and the sub book plot is off the charts. Helen needs to make The Ruby in to a line of NC-17 historical porn.
Just finished reading Sophie's Voice by Helen Hardt. Another amazing read by the author. The timid Lady Sophie explored new aspects of life and blossomed into the not so shy lady. The romance between Zach and Sophie seemed to take of right from the start and kept me hoping that they would end up together. Sophie didn't deserved to live her life in spinsterhood. So glad that she found a man that she could fall in love with and be happy. The drama in the book kept things extremely interesting and I would wonder what was going to happen next. Can't wait to see if there is more to this series.
I recieved this book for a review. Sophie is quiet, keeps to herself and she has accepted that love just isn't going to come for her. Until she auditioned for a play and had the experience of a lifetime. Zach has it all pretty much; his own theater, life, and pretty much any woman he wants. He never wanted love and didn't think it would come. There is a new woman with a beautiful voice who catches his attention and he just can't let her go. Will either find what they are looking for? Will love win out?
have so enjoyed the Sex and the Season series. With Sophie's Voice, Helen Hardt has amped up the action to maximum overdrive. It isn't just sex between consenting adults, the desperate need these characters have for each other is simply captivating. Sophie and Zach are the cure for what ails each of them. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I was so very pleased with Sophie's Voice.
I wasn't expecting Sophie, the girl that can't even think about sexual acts without blushing to be not only a submissive but so freely willing to go to bed with a man after knowing him for less than 24 hours.
Overall, I liked this book but it was a little far out there. That being said I enjoyed the book and would read more from this author. I will say she knows how to write a steamy scene!!
Although this book was was quite good, it was not as good as the first 3 in the Sex and the season Novels. I think if I had read it first I would had loved it more . The others just had more of the excitement and grab that I like . Neither Sophie nor Zach held my fascination. They both seemed a little drab. Some parts were great, others I could have just skimmed over. I could have read more about Alex and the babies and would have been happy.
This is the fourth book in the Sex and the Season series and a very good book indeed. Unlike book 3 and 4 this one has more substance and a great little mystery to it. Helen Hardt noted that she had difficulty with these two characters but they were well developed and quite entertaining. Hot, steamy, with a nice suspense to it made it wonderful to read. Sophie and Zach's encounters were absolutely wonderful.
Passion after a life of torment and a sizzling romance. Sophie has resigned herself to a life of spinsterhood until she loses a bet with her sister and has to audition for a musical. Zach has spent his adult life seducing women but never before has he been so all consumed by one as he is the moment he hears Lady Sophie sing. They are both haunted by troubling pasts but can they work together to find love and happiness in the future?
Very interesting and erotic. Helen Hardt sure has the knack to bring you back in time and make you feel as your going through everything with whom she writes about. It’s amazing. You feel every bit of hurt, passion and every other emotion they feel. It’s simply amazing how Helen does this. I can’t put her books down
Helen Hardt takes stuffy 19th century spinster and turns her into a ravishing sexy woman. It tells how you can think your life will continue down one path and a chance encounter turns it completely around. This book contains everything you expect from Helen Hardt- sexual encounters and wit. I would recommend it to everyone who read Fifty Shades Of Gray.
WOOOAAHHHH! I took me a while to get into the book BUT sticking with it was well worth it. This book fit in well with the first 3 books. This series was the first historical romance series that I have read and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
Thank you Helen for a great series. I hate that its over but it was a blast while it lasted!
Well, the story is good.I have predicted from the beggining about Graves. But the story is still good however,i think Sophie's character isn't really timid. I was disappointed at some point of the story because of the character's not really possessing their character's description but well, yeah. Its still good.
Shy little Sophie and daring mr. Zach. How these two make my heart soar! The slow burn is intoxicatingly amazing. I loved seeing Sophie come out of her shell and embrace the strong woman she is. I also enjoyed watching Zach come to the realization that he is more than he thinks he is. He has worth and value. Their love story was dripping with suspense but it ended perfectly.
Sad to see this series end..... would love for the stories to continue but all good things end right.... this one does not disappoint. Lady Sophie is shy and quiet or at least that’s what she portrays. They always say watch out for the quiet ones..... her needs are hot and steamy and definitely lead you into wanting more. Buckle up and turn the fan on because this is one hot ride!
Out of all of the Sex and the Season books I find this one my favorite I think. I like how it has some suspense thriller thrown in with the romance. The story was very engaging. The series itself was a little slow for me and not as steamy as many I’m used to but overall a great read! I love Helen Hardt! And thank you Team Wild and our Ladybugs group
Oh my what a story. I can completely relate to Sophie in the aspect of being a spinster. I love that Zach came along and she didn't care he wasn't wealthy or had major status. The whole creepy butler story line was awesome as well. Graves didn't know what hit him. I loved how in this story love trumped everything no matter what stacked against them. I do have to day I this was my favorite one
It's always the quiet ones! Timid little Sophie finally comes out of her shell. The other three girls were naughty but I think Sophie takes the cake. She's also a beautiful singer and decides to break convention and go into the working world where she meets the dashing Mr. Newland. Can she get him to abandon his rakish ways? You'll find out.
currently reading now... will let you know what I think when I'm done!
well now that I'm done I'm baffled. it has a mystery aspect that I really liked to it that I never would have guessed. overall this series was another wonderfully done by H. Hardy! keep them coming!
This is book 4 of 4? I heard there maybe a fifth and I certainly hope so. Lady Sophie comes of age a little late but oh so naughtily. Great love story between her and Zach. This whole series will make you fall in love with the whole family. Must read
