An amazing entry to a long running series. I actually was stunned - this is so not how I expected this novel to conclude. I am feeling a jumble of emotions because this climax was so unexpected. Ms. Purdy has done a masterful job with this well written and complex story. It may be awhile before we enter this world again, but I am sure there is more to come. Meanwhile, I look forward to many more enjoyable hours spent with her other works. Definitely one of my go to authors. I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
After what seems like a lifetime we are back in the land of Faerie. We all knew it was coming but had no idea this author would take it in the direction she did. We get Dylan's pain this time. Shade makes some choices that tear Dylan to pieces at the same time making him stronger. His pain is so deep and so profound that it pours out of the pages. So many changes so many betrayals. So many lies and so many repercussions. So much the same yet so much changed.
This author takes us to the edge and we dangle and wait to find out more. I was on the verge (ok I dropped a few) of tears almost from the beginning of the book. It doesn't stop and this author doesn't disappoint. This one is emotional and it is so personal and powerful. Yeah it's that plus some.
It's great to be back!!!! Exhilarating and Emotional!!
I am in love with this book! It's such a beautiful feeling to return to a story that you cherish! I've missed the Faerie world and the characters... Shade, Dylan, and Soap aka Rylan!!! It's like being welcomed back by friends with a huge hug! The author didn't disappoint me with the new book.. The story keeps getting better and better!!! When you have an ongoing series like this one there's always that small fear that something will change that you'll lose interest as time goes on but that's DEFINITELY NOT the case here!!! I grow more and more in love with each book there's always something new and exciting that brings me back and keeps me hooked! Guardians of Fire is fascinating, exciting, and emotional (I shed a few tears!) It's also an epic adventure with shocking twist and turns you won't see coming your way! I love how the author captures the reader's attention by the very first page and keeps you hooked until the very end! I love the detail that went into writing this book.. You read certain scenes and they're so descriptive it captures your imagination that you can see yourself there.. seeing, feeling, doing all the things.. It feels like you're living the story instead of the characters! It's truly an amazing feeling when a book touches you deep in your heart and leaves a huge impact that you know you'll carry with you forever because you don't want to let go!
I did listen to this book...I was not a fan of the narrator, if I didn't like the story as much as I did, I may have stopped listening to it. With many of the voices he sounded really forced and unnatural making it really hard to listen to.
That being said, focusing on the story, it was a good read. Nice progression for the characters with plenty of surprises. It was fun to see the characters change and grow throughout the series. It's good to know that there are two others left in the series because there were a few things left open at the end of this book that I really want to know about.
I've enjoyed the series so far and am looking forward to what's next for the characters.
Shade is selfish, self centered and immature. She grew up in the human realm without multiple marriages. Yes she's part faerie, but she's the part that doesn't do multiple marriages. So you are queen of your court, you don't follow another queens laws, you don't follow the other kind of faerie's traditions. If Nautilus had also proposed she would have had 3 husbands, that's how self centered she is. Why if all these men are admiring and claiming to love her should she turn them down? Way to many grammatical errors.
It was different not to get the happy ever after ending. A few spelling mistakes in this one and I almost feel it was rushed. It still grates me, like in the previous book, that they get told things and promptly forget them only to remember it chapters later after looking for it for ages. But then I suppose we wouldn't have much of a story otherwise
Wow. What a rollercoaster of emotions. I love reading g Alexia's books and am never disappointed but I didnt expect this. Shade, Dylan, and Soap. Joy, heartbreak, love, loyalty. I really hope this isn't the last book.
What can I say the ending took me by surprise. I have enjoyed these stories so much and not yet ready to let go from this land of Faerie. I will miss Soap the most I loved him and Shade together.. sorry Dylan.
oh my goodness wow . and sad on how the book ends but i hope for the next book please tell me there is a next book . Alexis . and Shade and her bonds with Soap and Dylan , and Benton and Isolde . and the Ancients . and a price must be made . but who or what must pay the price . who is pregnant . well i know but i will not tell. this book once i bought it i could not put it down . and took two days but wow cannot believe it . stunned in shock on the ending please not the end of the series cause i want a better ending if it is the end lol. loved the story but how it ends sad and in shock i know i already said it a few times but i so am in shock . i cannot wait for book 9 . and will Anna truly marry Oran or will she marry who she truly wants to be with . will the land of Fairie deeme it so or will Anna as Shade has paid the price for Fairie . and Dylan who did something out of anger to Shade will he have more consquences in the next book due to the end of this book .
