Evan Reynolds is a husband and father with a history of alcohol abuse. He masterfully manages his demons without disrupting his daily life... until the day his infant daughter is found drowned to death. Evan has no memory of what happened, but holds himself accountable. Willing to accept whatever punishment that comes his way, Evan is assigned a young public defender who is too caught up in his own personal issues to focus on Evan's case. Ryan Du Bois, Evan's attorney, seeks out the help of experienced lawyer Michael Ayers only to be turned away. Michael, the wealthy attorney who once worked for the public defender's office, has returned to defending high dollar clients. One such client is business man Ron Edahl. Ron is a very prominent figure in the Charlotte community, but he's hiding a dark secret from more than thirty years ago. When Ron kills a young black teenager with his bare hands, the city of Charlotte, North Carolina is turned upside down as Ron's past and present begin to mirror each other. With Evan and Ron both facing murder charges, their attorneys from two vastly different backgrounds must put their personal lives on hold to do what is right for both clients. Just when it seems Michael has been able to secure the freedom of his wealthy client and Ryan's client makes a deadly decision, a prominent Senator begins making accusations about whether or not justice is actually being served. The chaos that ensues forces Michael and Ryan to dig deeper to uncover the truth behind who is really pulling the strings in both cases.
O. R. Johnson is an American author with a flair for nail biting story lines. Her journey into penmanship began with non fiction work but she quickly realized her real passion is to take readers on a journey of inspiration and entertainment. Using writing as a way to express herself creatively O.R. Johnson is breaking down barriers by telling the stories that need to be heard in a way that ignites a fire for change. Focusing on contemporary fiction, she brings triumph over tragedy to the hearts and minds of readers so subtly that the impressions continue to unfold long after the stories have been read.
When not writing, she can be found relaxing and enjoying life with her favorite people, her husband and children.
This was truly a remarkable novel. There were so many twists and turns but it all weaved together to unravel a perfect storm . never would have figured it out.
I enjoyed this book so much. Some of the people that were in his first novel are in this novel. I hope Johnson continues the Michael Ayers series. It is a book difficult to put down after several pages. This is definitely a talent. I discovered him my reading his first book. I was delighted to see he had written another book. I hope book number 3 is in the works. That is why I gave it 5 underserved stars.
I love the people on this story and I want cannot wait until their next case. Only problem I had is not putting book down until 5am and even though I am retired I need my sleep but it was worthwhile.
