Torn

I can't decide if I'd rather kick him in the dick or screw him, but I know what he wants to do to me. All of the deliciously sinful things that I crave.

We met by chance at a club, and the chemistry between us was undeniable . Then I started working for his mother, and he suddenly found me unworthy. Now he's doing everything in his power to make me quit or get fired. I'm not the kind of woman to let a man walk all over her, though.

He presses all of my buttons, both intimately and emotionally. I'm torn between the need to resist him and the desire to give into his demands . If I let him have his way, though, I'll lose everything.

Torn is a steamy standalone romance with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after ending.

Well written but couldn't like the characters

The book itself is well written but the characters weren't for me. I am usually totally into bordering on asshole alpha heroes but Holden just is an asshole who belittles and degrades her in public and never takes her no for an answer, forcing her to stay places with him and forcing himself on her.
And Piper is awful, her insufferable spoiled attitude where she wishes her stepbrothers were dead just so she didn't have to care for them (and she doesn't even do anything to care for them, she leaves them home alone 90% of the time, regularly says "I'm not their parent" and snaps at them for every small thing they do ( ). It's really hard to care for the characters at all, their behavior and internal voices are just really not redeemable.
I still gave the book 4 stars because it is well written in terms of storyline so the rest is just my opinion.

Torn had me torn about how to review it. On one hand, I loved it. It's sexy, passionate and entertaining. On the other hand, Holden, and Piper (at the beginning) are pretty disgusting characters and lack likability and any redeeming qualities. Piper is a submissive who has moved back home to take care of her younger stepbrothers after her stepfather kills her mother and himself. Since there were no close family to take on the boys, it fell to Piper. The only way she finds any release from the life she hates is to find a Dom at Club Fet to take control of her body. It's here where she first glimpses Holden. Holden is a rich investor who also finds release at Club Fet. They're instantly drawn to each other that night, but she's with Sir Jeremy and he blocks Holden and Piper from connecting. They don't see each other again until Holden finds out she's the housekeeper his mother has hired.

It's this point in the story that Sky almost lost me. Holden sees Piper at his mother's house and instantly is rude to her. He thinks she's not fit to be his mother's housekeeper and does everything he can to get his mother to fire her. Failing that, he does everything he can to get Piper to quit. He's cruel, derogatory and just plain malicious to her, for a still unexplained reason. And then, one night he sets into motion the one thing that I can't even imagine Piper could have come back from, let alone forgive him for. It was so far out of normal, appropriate behavior that I cannot fathom how Piper ever set eyes upon him again without wanting to scratch his eyes out, knee him in the junk and rip his heart out. She's far too forgiving, and nothing Holden does after redeems him, at least not in my eyes. I know if it had been done to me, I would have never looked at him again, let alone forgive him and fall in love with him.

I like how both Piper and Holden change and evolve, though, especially Piper. In the beginning she's pretty unlikable, whining about having to take care of her stepbrothers, as if they haven't suffered a loss just as she has. They're young boys, not adults as she is, so their obnoxious behavior is pretty typical and Piper's reaction to it is off the charts ridiculous. Thank God she changed, though, because if she had remained as unlikable throughout the whole story as she was in the beginning, there would have been no way I would have been able to give Torn a high rating. Holden, though, I still have reservations about. Yes, he changed toward the end, but I still can't get past his earlier behavior, and even though he changed toward the end, I don't think he ever really redeemed himself. He didn't grovel enough, actually, I'm not sure there is any amount of groveling that could possibly make up for what he did to Piper, and didn't ever seem quite sorry enough. But, I do like that once he decided how he felt about Piper, he was all in and never once gave up trying to show her how he felt.

So, I was torn between giving this a really low rating because Holden is a despicable character who never redeemed himself, and 5 stars because it's a study in forgiveness and change, and is super steamy and interesting. I went with 5 stars because, ultimately, it's a book I'll always remember, regardless of the fact that Holden is a serious asshole.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I don't think I have ever hated a character as much as I hated Holden for most of this book. Piper has so many problems she doesn't need any more. Somehow they overcome so many huge obstacles and make it through to the other side, but not totally unscathed. I would have like to see the ending expanded a bit. There is a reason why Sky Corgan is one of my favorite authors... she writes intense, consuming, emotional, enticing, and sexually charged and lust driven stories with compelling characters with an unexpected twist thrown in to keep you turning the pages.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

This book took me a little time to get into. Love a good BDSM story, but in the beginning the characters were not likeable for me. Piper is shown as a selfish woman, not ready to parent her two stepbrothers after the death of their parents. Holden is a spoiled man, and when he does not get his way does unforgivable things. The two are attracted to each other, and finally found out they were connected through Holden's mom, Ann. Ann is the light of this book. Her goodness and wise advice really brings heart to this couple. As I got to know each of them better, I understood their reasons for who they are and why they act in the manners they do, making me like them better. The back story is so good, I had to keep listening so that I could find out if they would adjust and change over time. Sky Corgan writes stories with grit and hot sex, the perfect dark romance and leaving the reader with a little of every emotion with this one.

Audrey Lexington's narration is very good. I have never heard her before, but really enjoyed her portrayal of this serial.

Dare I critic what I read. I was hard on ready to get this one started. I got it and was ready to devour it. I enjoyed the read but was not set aflame by it. I was not itching to turn to the next page and get it all going. This one took me too long to get a good pace going and too long to finish it altogether. Each time I picked it up I would have to go back a bit to reacquaint myself with what I read.

Torn by Sky Corgan was a great book. Many things havent been going Piper's way as of late. Piper enjoys diving into her dark desires at Club Fet. Little did she know her private life and Club Fet life would cross paths. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by Sky Corgan.

Really loved this series. It's got such drama that keeps you interested. and it's so intense when they have the push and pull type of relationship. But the book itself is good. I'm glad I read it. Love this authors work. Can't wait for more.

Club Fet is Piper’s escape from the reality waiting for her at home, especially remembering the life she’s left behind and the freedom she’s lost. Piper sees a Dom she is interested in; thought not available that night, Piper is intent on using her body to get exactly what she wants. A challenge is issued when Sir Jeremy says he is going to break her, but she shows no fear; afterwards she is already looking for her next conquest. Piper can read most Doms, but there is something different about Holden; the way he looks at her makes her feel violated in all the right ways. Holden has come to Club Fet looking for something different, something new and exciting to distract his mind from the day’s business. Knowing he is in control of another’s pain and pleasure has always been empowering to him and when his eyes lock on Piper, he feels the need to conquer. Holden’s mother, Ann, employees Piper as a housekeeper, but Holden goes on the defensive. Intimidating people is Holden’s speciality, but Piper merely takes his threat and throws it back at him – a reaction he doesn’t expect. Holden believes Piper has defied him every step of the way, but he would win – he always does. Piper promises Ann she will not tell Holden her secret, and while she feels guilty about betraying Ann’s trust, she knows telling Holden is the right decision. Finally, there is no denying the depth of feelings Piper and Holden have for each other, but the underlying emotion in both is still hate. Piper knows that she shouldn’t be giving Holden control; it is not logical, it is wrong, she hates him, yet it feels so right and while Piper is a comfort to him, a distraction from his pain, she is still his enemy. Holden and Piper have an altercation about the family heirloom Ann has given to Piper. Holden is so incensed, he threatens Piper; he wants her out of his life and his mother’s life – he makes it plain he can and he will destroy her. Holden is trying to convince himself that Piper is a bad person, but the way his mother talks about her, it is just not true. All pride aside, Holden tells Piper he is prepared to do ANYTHING to make things right - except he is totally unprepared for what happens next, and so is she. Holden’s whole plan in the morning, after their night together, is to show Piper he didn’t care; to purposely hurt her and try to scare her away, hiding his real feelings for her. Piper realises the man who made love to her so passionately, is someone completely different from the Holden she has always known. But in the morning when she is all alone, it reminds her of how he really is: cold, heartless and selfish. But then Holden’s whole attitude suddenly changes; he needs to be honest with Piper, but he doesn’t know how. Holden needs advice and there is only one person who can help him. It takes a lot of persuading and grovelling on Holden’s behalf before Piper gives him the second chance he wants. As the weeks pass Holden stays true to his word and becomes a better man, a man that Piper can trust, and as a result there is a genuine closest between them; everything that once felt so wrong before, takes an unexpected turn as their lives merge together. This is an excellent story that had lots of twists and turns to make it an exceptional read, and one which I would have no hesitation in recommending. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Piper is struggling in the reality of her new life. With the death of her mother and stepfather, she is now sole guardian of her stepbrothers. A responsibility she had never desired. Her only escape from her new reality is to frequent a local BDSM club to help her to forget her problems one night at a time.

Holden is very protective of his mother, so when she announces she has a new housekeeper and caretaker he is immediately on alert. None of his apprehension is alleviated when he forces a meeting with the woman and realizes she is someone he has seen before… at a club he likes to frequent.

I really enjoyed this book. I have read many books in the BDSM genre that tend to fall flat and have no storyline, not so with this book. Sky Corgan is a fantastic writer, while I never particularly like either Piper or Holden as characters, she still drew me in to their stories and had me loving them by the end of the book. With an interesting story, hot sex, and some true character growth, this book is a must read. Yes, if you have ‘triggers’ please avoid, as a BDSM book there can be some dubious consent themes that might throw you.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Great,Awesome

Not one for Doms and Subs, I loved this book. So well written. I cried, laughed and got angry. Holden is a selfish arrogant pompous soiled mean brat of a man. Thank goodness that deep inside side he has a concussions. Something it did get from his parents. Piper is really kind and caring women. With Holdens' mothers help she's able to help her step brothers and herself work to make their family hole. Enjoy this awesome read of deep emotional feeling, romance and love. I was really really impressed with the book

You're the only family I have.

Piper comes home to take care of her step brothers after a tragedy. Holden is a jerk that always gets what he wants, and he wants Piper gone from his mothers life. This is a dark romance. There are some scenes that may push your boundaries. I liked this book despite those. There is an HEA, but something like cheating. Enjoy!!

This was a good book and well written. Piper and Holden took some getting used to and it took awhile to see beyond their behaviors to the people they are. The story drew me in. It is a dark romance and had me on an emotional rollercoaster. This one is not going to be for everyone but I enjoyed it.

Wow, all together as one. When I read this, it was in many small parts, and I had to impatiently wait for the next part each time. If you purchase this, then there is no waiting. I really enjoyed Torn. There are times when I was laughing so hard, and there were times when I wanted to slap Holden, Piper, or both. When a book brings out such strong emotions, you know it is good. I voluntarily reviewed this advance copy, and I highly recommend it.

An enjoyable dark bad boy romance. I prefer the full story vs the previous separate parts, it was easier to read the continuous story instead of piece by piece. A well written erotic story.

So I previously read this story when it was published in 10 small parts which was a bit painful since they were so tiny….less than 50 pages each. I much prefer the longer single book format.

My problem during my first read was trying to keep up with the story in such small snippets, but as a full novel it is a much better story. You can develop a stronger connection with the characters. I really liked Piper and Holden. Although he was a jerk most of the time and he didn’t treat Piper well at all he turned things around in the end. I loved the tension between them.

I love reading Sky Corgan’s books and have read quite a few. This is Piper and Holden’s story and what a journey it is. Piper has been forced to return home to care for her two younger stepbrothers because of the death of their parents. As a recent college graduate with a degree in accounting it is disappointing that she is unable to find work. In order to have some freedom from her responsibilities, she decides to go to Club Fet where she finds release in the world of BDSM. Holden is a wealthy investor who gets off on control. When he catches Piper’s eye in the club, he is attracted to her but does not act upon it as she is with another Dom. Shortly thereafter Holden runs into Piper again at the least likely of places, his mother’s house as Piper is her new caregiver. Holden pitches a fit and attempts to have Piper fired to no avail. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Piper and Holden. No matter what he tried to throw at her she didn’t take his guff and the attraction between the two was palpable. There are some books that you just can’t seem to put down because of the emotions that are evoked while reading. This is one of those books. The flawless writing style and the vivid descriptions just enhance the suspense and character growth. I can’t wait to read what comes next!

Piper goes to Club Fet (a BDSM club) to escape her life and the responsibility of taking care of her two step-brothers. Club Fet is where she first sees Holden. There is an instant attraction between them.

Piper discovers the real Holden when he does some disturbingly cruel things to her. Holden wants Piper to quit working for his mother, Ann. Holden rationalizes his cruelty; he's preventing Piper from taking advantage of Ann.

Holden realizes he made a huge mistake after Piper quits. Piper truly cared for Ann and made her happy. He also realizes he cares for Piper. After everything Holden has done, can Piper forgive him? Holden will fight to be with Piper. He wants to be a better man for Piper. Does Holden really want Piper? Or does he just want Piper to care for Ann?

If you like erotically dark romances, I highly recommend you read this book.

Let me start by saying I really like dark romance and I enjoy a bdsm book when it's done right. The writing in this book was very good quality if you aren't looking for romance with your dirty sex. The author made me loathe the H and the h was only slightly less horrible. They both sleep with other people, him with multiple other women, she with only one guy. She turns out to be a doormat and I really can't see him as anything other than an abuser. The supposed feelings he developed for her seem contrived and not at all believable. I don't believe either one would manage to be faithful for long and she is a pretty bad guardian to her stepbrothers. 11 & 15 are certainly old enough to be home alone while she works days but she thinks nothing of going clubbing and leaving them without supervision overnight while she screws around. One time she lets them invite friends over to stay the night while she goes out to get laid. Not cool. I'm sorry to say I really hate this book but I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one because while I may hate this particular story the author writes it really well.

The author delivers a very well written story. Many authors use the term dark romance for their books but this one really earns the label. There is a real darkness to Holden and his actions. Piper is struggling the new family demands and using BDSM to give her release and pleasure. At first, she is not that likeable either but she evolves as the story continues and becomes someone you care about and don't want to see hurt. It is an intense read with many sexual situations.

I will admit that when I started this book I had no idea what I was getting myself into. That being said after I got through the rough start (I personally couldn't stand either Piper or Holden) I really enjoyed this book. It was dark and an emotional rollercoaster of a book. The chemistry between Piper and Holden was off the charts hot! Overall this book was good.

WOW this book is such an emotional roller coaster ride, Piper and Holden are both characters you love to hate, but you also want them both to find the happiness that is missing from their lives, Piper has basically lost her freedom (she believes) due to a man who not only killed her mom but then killed himself and left her 2 brothers alone in the world, Piper has to move back home and take care of them and she resents this.
Holden is a Dom who not only wants complete control over a woman he expects it in his business as well, Piper comes to work for his mother Ann Holden knows who Piper is from Club Fet and is amendment that she not work for his mother, Yes there is a deep attraction between the two but there is a Hate for each other as well.
There are parts of the book that are very hot and wonderful and parts that will make you cringe. It is a book that you will not want to put down until you finish it. It will hold you captive. A wonderful read!

Piper Has returned home after her mothers death & is forced to care for her 2 stepbrothers. For release she visits bdsm clubs as a sub.
Holden is set in his ways he's a dom used to getting his own way. His mum is his only relative & finding out her secret from piper doesn't help their strained chemistry.
The story took a while to take shape but was well worth reading.

Excellent story! I absolutely wanted to bash Holden with my car at times during the story but loved him just the same by the end. Piper & Holden deserved to work things out. Ann can rest easy now. I also loved reading the interaction between Piper & the boys. There was a lot of mental growth (& super HOT sexy scenes- YUM).

Wow, where to start? I didn't care for Piper in the beginning, she was moody and hateful. She's had a lot of loss in her life and hid her heart under the hate. She grew on me as the story progressed, even though she changed her mind, her emotions so much it was like whiplash. The story definitely pulled me in, had me wanting more to the point it was hard to put down. Now Holden is such a jerk, so easy to hate, those feelings ran deep the entire story. I had a hard time with him, his choices, his actions. The relationship between Piper and Holden runs VERY hot and VERY cold. The writing flows well and keeps you on your toes!

This one is tough to review. The book is so well written that the characters seem to take life before your eyes. That said, it's a tough book to read, not because of the D/s in it, because of Holden the male (it's hard to even call him that) character. What he did to Piper was just downright disgusting.
As if she didn't have enough on her plate having to return home to care for her two step brothers after her step father murdered her mother then killed himself. She's parenting kids she doesn't know, and needs a job. She finds that with Ann. Ann is an older woman who is kind, good hearted and easy. She's also very sick and dying. Holden is her son. He doesn't know. From the beginning for whatever reason he took an immediate dislike to her. He'd already seen her at a club and wanted to nail her there, so what was his problem. The lengths he went to to keep her away from his mother, when Piper did nothing but make the woman happy was sickening. And illegal. Holden does grow a tiny bit of conscience at one point. Piper went back to work for his mother, but clearly she made it known to him to stay away from her. Of course he couldn't.
Sky writes such a great book, she just sucks you write into the story and doesn't let you go until your brain dead and exhausted. Good thing I read this on my laptop, I'd have thrown my kindle.
That's the sign of a well written story. One thing though, I had a tiny problem with Piper allowing him back in, granted it was over a period of time but she's a much more forgiving person than I am.
Damn good book.
