Another good read

I like this spinoff series, action packed and great read. It’s good to see Jack get his own series, but he needs a woman of his own.

This is the second in the Saving Time series, and aside from one or two mentions about Simon and Elizabeth (from the main series), they don’t actually appear. I’m glad Monique won’t be bringing them in too often, as it felt a little too convenient.

Aloha, Jack is set 10 days prior to someone important dying, and Jack has to save them, and work out who is planning to kill them at the same time. And the book culminates in 7th December 1941 - or the attack on Pearl Harbor. Some of these scenes came across feeling like they were lifted directly from the film, although I suppose a lot of that was based on eye witness accounts. But there were a couple of bits where I got a strong sense of deja vu.

Once again, Jack is living up to being a complete lover of ladies, and they seem to buzz around him - so why can’t I get a good solid grasp on what he looks like in my head? I have this faceless dark haired guy, which could be influenced by the covers of these books, but I just can’t get a good image in my head. Both Elizabeth and Simon are there (and there is no artists impression of them on the covers), although I can’t picture a celebrity or anything. I just can’t get a fix on Jack.

The other thing I’ve noticed about these books is they do tend to meander quite a bit and there’s a slow build up to the main event. I don’t know if I was more invested in the Out Of Time series, or if these just haven’t grabbed me yet, but I find the majority of the book ticks along at a steady snail pace and then suddenly everything picks up in the last couple of chapters. I also struggled in this book with the myriad of characters and who they were to the person Jack was attempting to save.

Overall, I’m still preferring the main series so far. This series just hasn’t quite got the spark yet for me.

I absolutely loved it. It is good to see that Jack can handle situations on his own without Simon and Elizabeth but one does miss those two as well. It was nice to be introduced to someone from Jack's life "Rigs", love the character. I can hardly wait for more from Simon, Elizabeth, Jack and of course, Charlotte. What do you have in store for them?

I've loved this time travel series since Out of Time. This is the second in a spin-off series and while it can be read alone, it will be more enjoyable with the background.

In this episode, Jack has been sent back to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii 7 days before the attack. Someone has been playing with time and he has to make sure an important code breaker doesn'the get killed. Jack needed to be rescued from his first solo mission, is he going to make it through this one on his own?
