Favorite Quotes:

It was an untraditional traditional wedding ceremony, but it was magical all the same. They’d learned early on that love wasn’t easy. Sometimes it meant you acted like a stupid ass. Sometimes it meant you messed up. Sometimes it was equivalent to running a marathon in what was practically a blizzard.

Everyone did it—got caught up in the routine, in the chaos, in the madness. In the midst of this crisis, though, she realized the little moments were what made them who they were… It was funny, tragic how it took something like this to show you what mattered.

Back then, they had been two people who naively thought life lasted forever, that they had so much time. They’d thought they were immortal, their lives irrevocably promised to them…. It took a devastating dance with death for Jess to realize life is lived in the seemingly small moments, the tiny memories most don’t even think about.

My Review:

This book took my breath away, squeezed my cold heart, and moved me to tears more than once, all of which are rare occurrences and rather amazing feats. Lindsey Detwiler definitely has the word voodoo as I was immediately transported by her magical words and injected into Jess’s inner musings - I was right there with her while she was trapped in the snowdrift along with her precious Todd, who I positively adored. Despite living in the tropics, I felt miserably cold all day as I read of their harrowing experience of being trapped for days in a vehicle during a blinding blizzard. As they filtered through their memories, I was devastated as they recalled their periods of despair and thrilled as they exalted in their joys and triumphs. I cherished their offbeat and unconventional lifestyle. Ms. Detwiler’s poignant, amusing, and emotive writing tugged at my heartstrings and brought a smile to my lips as the characters reminisced about how they met, their first kiss, the first ‘I love you,’ their wedding and wedding night, as well as their trials and tribulations. All of this is occurring while they are also battling the elements and suffering the injuries of a motor vehicle accident and dying by inches yet also desperately hoping for rescue. I cherished their union, humor, and resolve. Sigh. Lindsay Detwiler has mad skills.

Remember When is a simple story packed with so much love and raw emotions that make it beautiful and unforgettable.

I loved to see Todd and Jess' story unfolding between the pages, some of their memories made my heart smile others shattered it,I was so engaged in it I could feel all their mutual love.

I think Lindsay Detwiler can write whatever she wants I'll read it because she can do no wrong.

This was a fast read. So touching, yet heartbreaking. I enjoyed this book. It’s shows a power of love. However it’s more of an adult romance which not really my cup of tea. Nevertheless the story itself is so personal and the last part was my favourite :)

Thank you to Lindsay for sending me this book! ✨

This is the first book I have read from this author and it was great. I usually don't read this type of book but the blurb was really interesting and it grabbed me. It was a really great read and I felt for Jessica and Todd, they went through a very traumatic situation. Jessica is a bit of a "In the moment" kind of girl, while she may think she knows what she is doing, Todd seems to come to her rescue. Todd is the fixer upper and almost the complete opposite of Jess. Together, they are an unstoppable couple that you really don't see anymore.

Jessica and Todd are stuck in a broken down truck for days in the snow, waiting for someone to find them. They share good and bad memories they have had and think about their future. Not every book can capture tenderness and innocent intimacy but this book does. I enjoyed the look back on their life and what they shared together and lost together. The epilogue was a little rushed but it really was a perfect ending to the book!

Book Blurb:
A single moment can change everything… but can love help us survive?

This wasn’t how it was supposed to be…

Settled into married life, Jessica and Todd think they have so much time… until everything comes to a halt on a snowy back road. When they find themselves in a life or death situation, with rescue seeming impossible, they cling to the only hope they have left: their love for each other.

As Jessica and Todd fight for survival, their connection carries them through the biggest challenge of their lives. Memories and regrets swirl around the couple as they finally take a moment to reflect on what really matters.

There’s one big, icy question that haunts them, though: Is this where their story will end?

Jessica and Todd decide to attend a wedding in the middle of a horrible snow storm; thinking they'll be okay to make it home. Only they weren't prepared for what mother nature had in store for them. Tragedy struck them in the worst way, fallen victim to the storm, broken and bruised. Jessica and Todd could only hope they would make it out alive and complete all the things they had planned for their life together. Hopes, prayers, love and each other were all they had to help them through, along with their memories.
"Let me guess, You're thinking about the time you almost got us arrested on the beach, right?"
Would their love help them hold out for hope to be saved, or would their memories be the last thing they have together.
Lindsey Detwiler really added a lot of detail in her book, Remember When. You can feel the hope, the love, the despair; everything over the course of the lives between Jessica and Todd.

It's going to be hard to put into words how much I loved this book. First, the cover. It's gorgeous, I love snow and yellow roses, but after finishing the book, the cover has a deeper meaning to me now making it even more beautiful. This author has become one of my must read authors since the first book I read of hers. Each story has been unique and unlike anything I've personally read. This one was no exception. Jess and Todd have been through a lot in life, and in their marriage. It hasn't always been an easy journey, but their love is strong and real. Most of the story takes place as a conversation between two people which takes a unique author to pull something like that off and keep it interesting. Lindsay Detwiler nailed it! Never once was I bored, in fact, I'm a slow reader and I finished this quicker than most. For the last 25% of the book, my heart started to race because I thought I knew how it would go and I was wrong. The ending, though I cursed the author for my angst, was perfectly written. I want to go into more detail about my favorite parts, etc, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. The only other thing I will say is that I believe this story would make a fantastic movie! So...Go.Read.Love.Review.

Jessica and Todd get into a major car accident on a frigidly cold, snowy night. They're stranded in the backwoods with increasingly slim chances of rescue. Todd is injured and they don't know how to begin getting out of their dangerous situation. While they wait out the days-long snow storm, they recollect their lives. Both the joy and the pain. And come to face with the fact that they might not make it out alive.

I was surprised by this book. I really was.

Todd and Jess are realistic, lovable characters. When people pine and daydream about finding love, they should daydream about finding a relationship like Todd and Jess's. It's romantic, but most of all, it's a deep friendship. They love each other in every way, in spite of and because of their imperfections.

The actual story takes place over only a few days, but the narration goes back often to their pasts. How they met, the first time they said their "I Love You's," and all the heartbreaking and silly moments after. I loved it. I found myself internally saying "Aww" or chuckling out loud often. It helped that they were so realistic and relatable. I could see myself in Jess and my own husband in Todd.

I also want to mention that this book made me think a lot about two specific things:

1. Being of Norwegian descent, my husband and I are always joking that I was meant to live in the snow. Like, throw me into a cozy cabin in the woods, surrounded by 6-feet of snow, make sure I have access to Netflix, tea, and a shelf of books (and my family, of course)... and I'll be happy as a frozen clam.

When it's hot outside, I'm always wishing for the cold. When it's cold outside, I'm always wishing it would stay that way. I'm basically Elsa.

Buttttt I really don't want to be stranded in the snow. Because heaven help me, my cold-loving blood would only keep me warm for so long.

Jess and Todd's dangerous situation is painfully, chillingly real. They are freezing, injured, and without hope. It's very scary. I could feel myself in that frosty truck cab along with them.

2. The story also made me ask myself some hard questions. What things in my life do I worry about or do on a daily basis that are a waste of time? What are the things that I will regret not doing? Like Jess, I know that writing and finishing a book is one of them. I have the stories in my heart and mind, I just have to be brave and determined enough to write them down. Am I spending enough time with my family? Probably not. Seeing Todd and Jess face these same questions made me think of them myself.

While the ending was a bit tidy to me, I loved getting to know Todd and Jess. I felt the cold and fear right along with them. This book will make you think, smile, and maybe even tear up.

I definitely recommend it.

Five Emotional Stars! Jessica and Todd are married and have been through a lot of trials and tribulations in their life. They decide to go to a wedding in the middle of a horrible snow storm. Tragedy strikes and they are stuck in the snow storm hoping for someone to come along and rescue them. Jessica and Todd try to keep up their courage that they will get through this and be able to do all the things they hoped to do in the future. What they do have while they wait there is their memories, their hopes, and dreams for the future. What will happened to Jessica and Todd? I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was quite different from other books that I have read. The story is mostly conversation between Jessica and Todd and I could not put the book down! The author writes a story that is quite unique and was well written and engaging. I enjoyed the characters and felt all their emotions as they were stuck in the snow storm. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more books by this author!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.

"Remember When" by Lindsay Detwiler

Lindsay Detwiler has written a moving and powerful novel. One of true love, survival, and finding peace within ourselves.

When a tragic decision leads to a potential life and death situation, Jess and Todd reminisce about different events in their life. They go thorough many "remember when..." scenarios together and individually. While they realize how special their relationship is amongst themselves, they also realize they have so much more they want to experience in the future. But no matter how things turn out, they have a commitment they have made to one another: "I will always love you until my dying breath...." whenever that may be.

I liked the use of the memories as it told the story of Jess and Todd from the time they met up to where they most recently were in their life together. Interspersing those memories with their current situation brought forth a more realistic aspect to the characters thoughts, feelings, and actions.

With great character development and a realistic storyline, Lindsay Detwiler has written another powerful novel about the strength of love and the bond between two people, particularly in the face of the unknown. Leaving the reader with the thought that there is always hope, and peace, as long as the heart leads the way.

Remember When is probably one of the most heartfelt stories that I've ever read. Already a fan of Lindsay Detwiler's, I was equally eager and nervous to read this. The premise promises for a nostalgic story, and nostalgia can be both good and bad. We do get bit of both as Jessica and Todd reflect on the ups and down an their marriage, events that might have ripped them a part and also ones that brought them closer to each other. Sometimes they were one in the same.

Lindsay's writing is so beautiful and this is a well plotted story. There's a perfect balance of the present and the past. In Jessica and Todd Lindsay creates a couple that I quickly became fond of, I felt invested in their safety and their future. This is a story that explores the intimacy of marriage, of a relationship that's been forged by a unique pull between two people. I really enjoyed getting to know them ( and maybe getting a glimpse into the author's story too).

There's no way to escape the emotions that their story evokes. There are so many lines that stuck out to me and made me contemplative about what I'd be thinking or wanting to talk about if my husband and I were in the situation. That's when you know you've connected with a story. When it makes you think about your own life and relationship.

"...she smiled, thinking about the beautiful moments they had together every single day, moments she wouldn’t take for granted if they got out of this mess. She was certain of it. It was funny, tragic how it took something like this to show you what mattered. "

5 Stars and recommendation. This story was a journey through a relationship and one that will remind you to make everyday count, to try to make it beautiful and to focus on the positive.

Excellent novel! The author takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, alternating between the intense, nail biting situation at hand and the hilarious moments that come to life as Todd and Jess reminisce about their past. A perfect summer read for anyone looking for a romantic story that will leave the reader begging for the same miracle Todd and Jess are longing for.

A beautifully written and poignant read. It was a book about reflection and surviving against the odds. It is also about opening your mind to other possibilities. There was no where for the author to hide here as the situation does not allow for outside distractions. It is story telling in its purest form, driven forward by the two characters Jess and Todd.

Husband and wife find themselves in a perilous situation after a car crash in the middle of a snow storm and their lives hang in the balance.

This was an incredibly well written read that kept you on edge waiting for their rescue. A fantastic job!

**A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**

I have never really been one for romance books. When I was younger, I did read my fair share of Christian Romance. Mostly because I enjoyed them in my teens and because they were clean. When I first started reading Lindsay Detwiler I was hesitant. They were romance novels. They are so much more than that. They are clean (most romance novels are not, trashy bodice rippers). They give you an amazing life lesson and actually make you think. This one is certainly no exception.

The book opens as Jess and Todd are driving down a snowy back road in the middle of a storm. They are coming home from a wedding. It was Jess’s college friend whom she hasn’t spoken to in two years, but she felt like she should go. Todd had a few beers and that is why she is driving even though she hates driving in the snow. Suddenly, with a mistake that only rookie drivers make, she slams on her brakes on the ice. This sends their old beater truck careening down the embankment. It wedges firmly between two trees. When Jess comes too she realizes that they are trapped. Todd’s leg is damaged and he is unable to get out. They spend the next 4 days “Remembering When.” From first dates to the wedding and honeymoon. They realize they have lived a full life. While there are some things they wish they could have done, they have no regrets. They lived their life to the fullest. Will Jess and Todd ever get rescued? Will they ever be able to do the things they wished they could have done?

This book was excellent. Though I anger read the whole thing. Muttering under my breath the whole time: I swear if she kills off these main characters I will be mad. Before you even start, know the end of the book will leave you needing a huge box of tissues at the ready. I cried, snorted, sniffed and wiped at tears while reading the last few pages. My only knock on the book, not enough to make it lose a star, is the amount of foul language. I know that it was written in to show frustration but it was sometimes unwarranted. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book release by this author. I have instructed my editor to stop asking if I want to read her books and just go for a straight yes all the time. Now excuse me while I go and listen to Alan Jackson’s ‘Remember When’ because I have been humming it since I started this book.

Remember When is a story of a tragedy that turns into a revival of memories good and bad from the past lives of Jessica and Todd. While possible living their last days, Jessica and Todd relive many scenes from their life. This is a true test of their love and devotion for each other. Also, reading this story makes you want to become more away of survival skills. Loved the suspense in this novel. Henry the Mastiff also appears in every book from this author. Loved it!!

Remember When is one of those books that stay with you for a long while after reading it. I sat for a while after reading it, thinking about Jessica and Todd. Their love story was beautiful and sad to read. This is a story that will make you cry. It is also a story that showcases that not all relationships are perfect and it takes work to keep up one.

Remember When has a very simple plot. Jessica and Todd are taking the back roads home from a friend’s wedding on a snowy winter night. There is a very bad accident in which the truck they are driving in ends up down a ditch and wedged between two trees. Jessica and Todd are sure that they will die before being rescued. It is there where they begin talking about how they met and the joys/sorrow that has left a mark upon their marriage.

I connected with Jessica. I could see so much of myself in her it wasn’t even funny. We both are quirky, do I dare say nerdy (and that isn’t a bad thing) women who have overcome a lot in their lives. We both found good men who we have had super highs, rock-bottom lows and everything between. I loved her optimism when they were trapped in the truck. Most of all, her love of Todd shone through the pages.

Todd did annoy me at the beginning of the book. I thought he was a little too flip about Jessica’s driving. But after the accident, my annoyance faded. He loved Jessica unconditionally. Sure, he made mistakes but those mistakes made him human. After the accident, his first concern was for Jessica’s well-being. Not his own even though he was injured. I had tears in my eyes during those scenes because I was sure something was going to happen to him.

Remember When is a romance with a small part of mystery in it. I say mystery because you do not know what happens to them until almost the end of the book. There is no sex in this book, which I am glad about. I liked that the author chose not to include anything sexual. I also liked that she chose to show the deep emotional connection that Jessica and Todd have instead. Listen, sex is great and I like it in most books. But there are some books that don’t need it. Remember When is one of those books.

The only complaint that I have is that the ending and epilogue seemed a little rushed. Other than that, I loved the book.

Like I mentioned above, the ending and the epilogue was a little rushed. There was a mystical angle thrown in that threw me for a loop when it was revealed. I did think that the epilogue was very sweet. Actually, a little bittersweet. If you read the book, you will understand why.

4 stars

My Summary of Remember When:

I loved Remember When. I was moved to tears many times during the book. It had an engaging plotline with characters that you will come to care for. Definitely a book that I will read again and again.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Mild violence (the car crash) and some mild language.

I would like to thank Lindsay Detwiler and Hot Tree Publishing for allowing me to read and review Remember When.

I’m not even sure where to start with this book. It has been a while since a book literally took my heart and twisted it so much that I wasn’t sure I had anything left to give by the end of the book. Oh and that ending wow…
Jessica and Todd like many married couples think they have all the time in the world to do everything they want to. However we never really know, will today be the day. The day that we don’t get to finish what we started. While Jessica and Todd realize they may or not be rescued they decide to relive some of their favorite memories. Some of these memories are sweet and some not so sweet. I really enjoyed the aspect of being with the couple as they are now and how they were as a new couple. It really added quite a new twist on a woman’s fiction book. I liked how Jessica and Todd had to be strong for each other in different ways in this book. While you see that Todd was Jessica’s rock a lot in the book you also look back and see that Jessica was Todd’s anchor. The flashbacks to what situation they are in now are seamless. I just fell in love with these characters and the love they have for each other. I enjoyed how corky they were, I loved that they were hermits, that they had inside jokes. Everything about this book was perfection…Be prepared when reading you may need tissues.
It’s so nice to read a book where you instantly connect with the characters. I could place hubby and I right into the characters shoes. We always say Remember When? Some of our best stories start from “Remember When” which makes this book connect with me so much more. There is a dog named Henry in this book who is to be exactly like the author’s dog Henry. I have met the real life Henry twice now and he is a doll baby!!
Not only does this author have an amazing dog, 5 super duper cool cats.. she has a weekly FB live video on Thursdays at 7pm. Her husband Chad joins her on this weekly videos where they talk about how hard it is to adult and whatever else might have happened during the week. Usually their videos have me laughing really hard, and they are super interactive when you comment.

Great

Jessica and Todd have been at a wedding. On the way home they get in a bad snow storm. Their truck gets stuck in the snow,it snows for days.
They talk about all the memories of their past. They talk about their hopes and dreams.
Whether they get out of this situation or not.
They made a commitment to each other, " I will always love you until my dying breath.".. whenever that will be.

4 1/2 stars!

This is Todd and Jess's story. They get stranded in the middle of a snowstorm and think it's the end. Life gives miracles sometimes.
This story felt real. Remember When is such a nice title for this book because Todd & Jess while stranded in their vehicle during a snowstorm remember life events in the past.
"Finding a sliver of happiness in the chaos."

"The naked mole rats? Who the hell finds naked mole rates cute?"

Jessica and Todd are driving home from a wedding when they tumble down an incline and land in a snowdrift between a bunch of trees! Now they have to do whatever they can to stay alive! While stuck in their car, they reminisce about their life together. They also worry about their beloved mastiff dog, Henry. This book is well written and full of emotion. Jessica and Todd's story is very entertaining and once I started reading it, I couldn't quit turning the pages!

Review by Emma-Louise Lewis on behalf of KFF

“A Single moment can change everything – but can love help us survive?”

This question is asked on the front cover of Remember When. This question not only leads the reader into one of the most emotionally raw books I have ever had the pleasure of reading; but also pulls the reader through a beautifully sweet series of memories that Jess & Todd re-live during their harrowing situation.

Todd & Jessica Kling find themselves in a situation of life or death…their life or death. A fluke accident catapults their truck down a hill and wedges it between two trees. Todd injures his leg, leaving most of the rescue efforts to Jess.

“You come on. If you go out there, you’re going to mess your leg up even worse, so stop. I’ve got this. I’m tougher than you think.”

“I know”.

“You’re amazing”

Parts of Remember When were almost too hard to read. Each time Jess and Todd attempt to free themselves their hopes are dashed.

“Now she realised nothing was guaranteed. Life could be going along at a humdrum pace, promising you forever. And then a single moment could rip everything to shreds. A single movement of your foot on the brake could obliterate everything you thought you had time to do.”

“The cold had finally seeped the entire way through to her core, to her heart. It was black, not with fear but with the feeling of giving up.”

The love between Jess & Todd is a truly beautiful thing to see. Having been together for years and having been through so much together, their love is solid. It made my heart smile.

“It was simple beautiful, the two of them together, no matter what happened. She would die, whether it be today or in one hundred years, thinking they were beautiful together.”

“He needed to hand on, and if he couldn’t, she needed to clutch on to him with everything she had. She could not let him go. They were in this together, just like everything else. Live or die, they were in it together.”

Todd isn’t a tall, dark, sexy man. He’s an average man with a pot belly and a beautiful heart. Through the authors descriptions of Todd Kling, I could see him in those jeans when he met Jess and how truly sexy his beard must have looked. I loved Todd’s awful sense of humour and I adored the way he saw the world and the way he used his optimism and realism to bring Jess back from her darkest moments. These two were so real to me, I just can’t describe how much they mean to me.

Reviewing Remember When hasn’t been an easy thing. The story had so much heartache; I must have spent at least 15-20% of the book, with tears rolling down my cheeks. This was an emotional roller coaster, and to be honest, I loved every minute of it!

Absolutely brilliant!
I totally loved this book. It's so well written and emotive. Jessica and Todd are just normal people who share an amazing love that's told in flashbacks. I found myself laughing at the crazy things they did and as the book progressed I became desperate for them to have them have a HEA. What they did for one another and what they were willing to sacrifice to be together kept me hooked until the very last page.
Excellent writing from Lindsay Detwiler. This is a book I will read again and the start of a new collection for me.
