A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
There are some good stories and bad ones. I realized I've already read a few books inside this set. One story left me hanging so I will have to read the rest of the series. One story in here got me buying the whole series when I read it by itself before. Beware, this might happen to you.
Great collection found a few new authors to follow and read. Some of the authors I have read from already but good to know on side stories or short stories starring favorite characters from their appropriate series.
While I liked the stories, I got this book some time ago from Barnes & Noble, and when I finally got around to reading it, there were only six books included! Where did the other four go? It made me angry, because some of the ones missing were the reason I got the set in the first place. Not a happy camper with this one.
This is one of the most talented authors I've read. I loved this story and look forward to reading more. The main character is a believable young woman and the character development was great. The only problem I had with the book was the sexual content. I had to skip those sections.
The main character is the oldest daughter of a family of four. One day, nearly everyone in the world dies of a seemingly random virus. She is immune to it. She watches helplessly as her parents and brother die and turn into dust.
With the help of a disembodied voice, she finds a new place to live. Then a stranger comes along with whom she becomes close.
The book ends with an incredible cliff hanger, however, the questions that arise about what actually happened are satisfactorily answered before the close of the story.
I give this collection of stories five stars. There is only one story in the collection which I did not care for, “Lost Wolf”. The main character , Victoria, was a whiney weak character. For an alpha female she was weak. Did nothing to find out who she was but always crying how she did not remember anything. Now Toby was a bit of a weak character as well. He did nothing to help Victoria regain her memory until after he was released. He was a bit whiney as well because he wanted Victoria but really wasn’t forceful enough emotionally or leadership like to move things along. I would read more by the other authors in this collection but nothing by Stacy Claflin, author of Lost Wolf.
Chosen by Christine Pope (Djinn) Dead Rising by Debra Dunbar (Templar) Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta (Souleater) Wolves: I Bring The Fire Part I by C. Gockel (Loki) Bitter Ashes by Sara C. Roethle (Vaettir Executioner) The Last Necromancer by C.J. Archer Nefertiti’s Heart by A.W. Exley (Ancient Artifacts) Lost Wolf by Stacy Claflin (Werewolf Professor and Amnesiac) Thunder Hunter by Rachel Medhurst (Viking w/ Thor's Magic) Sorceress Awakening by Lisa Blackwood
I will say a quick trigger warning about rape in the last novel as it’s mentioned quite a bit due to it being part of a backstory. That said, this was a fun collection. The novel about Loki I didn’t end up reading past the third chapter as it wasn’t really my thing, but the others were intriguing and a bit of a hoot. Overall, I liked it and will be keeping an eye out for other books from these authors.
I read this box set back in May when I was on a three-week family trip. (The trip sounded good when we had the idea) These books provided the perfect escape. I enjoyed reading every single one. The characters and worlds were intense and awesomely created. My favorite was The Chosen because I’ve never read a story with the djinn. That being said, there was not one story that I did not like.
Amazing characters amidst a steampunk version of Victorian London. A wonderful bunch of characters who live from a broken childhood into a young adulthood of new beginnings. The cast includes a kick-ass female lead, an airship pirate/Viscount and a hard-boiled London Enforcer. Humor, action and serial killer stopping abound. Get reading now!
Compared to most compilations this one earns its five stars. All of the books here were top of the line and well worth reading. Only obnoxious and unrequired sex scenes in last book, however sloping the scenes still made this book outstanding as wee. Ms Pope did an excellent job putting this together.
Nice collection, if you like all that panting over Hunky Pants and Short Skirts and such... there were some good underlying stories but I don't think I will be buying another set like this...
Loved this selection of story lines. All very different and worthwhile reading. Great introduction to new authors and how fantasy can be excitingly varied.
Oh My Gersh....I loved these books! I even bought some of the book's series partners. All were fantastic reads in their own way. I would highly recommend this set to any one who likes a mixture of paranormal/fantasy reads.
Loved it! I enjoyed getting a chance to read 10 different books by different authors that I have never read before. I am looking forward to reading more of their books. I highly recommend them if you enjoy the supernatural.
I really liked this boxset. While I didn't read all the books (I think I read five of them, the others looked unappealing to me) the ones I did read were interesting and well-written. 5 stars.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
What a wonderful collection of great stories. From Elves to Vampires..witches and djinns..all molded together to make your toes curl and your heart to beat faster.
Great book for one's imagination to enjoy a variety of adventurous store lines that intrigue one's mind on the possibility of unbelievable occurrences.
This was a good set of books that I enjoyed. Lots of new authors to try and some great series to look into. If you like pnr then this is a set for you.
I always love when authors come together to put together a box set like this. Some of these authors are new to me, but Blackwood, Claflin, and Medhurst are among some of my favorite YA and Paranormal authors and theirs are the books I have read first. I love the suspense that Claflin adds to the collection, a girl with no memory starting college to enter the world of shifters that is riddled with surprising twists. Rachel Medhurst's Thunder Hunter is an amazing book based off Norse mythology. Trygger, grandson of Thor, has been tasked with returning 200 fallen ones from Freya. He cannot die until he completes this mission, so after 1000 years of tracking and killing the fallen ones, he is so close to completing his goal when Freya throws the loner a curveball. A great selection of books for a superb price, I am anxious to finish the rest of the books.
