ok what the hell? must've been one of *the* worst books i've ever read... (only finished it bc it took me all of thirty minutes to finish it.... most wasted 30 min of my life).
why? because there was no story line and the characters were flat; the only thing we know is that our main character jane lives in a post-apocalyptic world, where "flesh-eaters" live alongside only a few humans that are left. But *when* all that happens isn't clear; *how* it happened isn't explained; for *how long* the world has been like that isn't mentioned, or even how Jane - one of the very few people left - has even managed to escape the fate of so many others...
What else? right, that "relationship" btw. jane/mason/kaden is so absurd i can hardly believe how anyone ever came up with something like that. she meets them, and a few days later BAM she f*cks both of them, even though you would expect a girl who lives and survives in a post-apocalyptic world to be wary of men (ok, she is wary in the beginning, but still lets them kiss her a few days later) and not rely on them as quickly as she does. Also, the author never explains where Jane got her knife-throwing skills, which is a bit absurd. you know, she just can, like everyone else in our pre-apocalypse world (because it doesn't sound like that whole apocalypse stuff happened 20 years ago so it's logical that everyone knows how to fight; it rather sounds like it happened like 2 or 3 years ago so it doesn't add up at all).
There's so much more stuff i didn't like about this book, but i won't mention them because i don't have the patience to go through it all again; but the main reason why i didn't like it is this:
i felt like the whole idea of why this book was written is because the author wanted to have a character that has lots of sex (those scenes are poorly written as well) in a post-apocalyptic world with two "insanely hot and well built" men who're okay with her f*cking their best friend (btw. those "best friends" aren't really friends if one of them would let the other leave bc he can't see the other getting it on with jane). no thoughts as to why there was an apocalypse or anything else, or a goal. oh, and in my opinion, jane was a flat, boring, dis-likeable character.

I read it for the tropes: disabled heroine (mute), military heroes. I was interested in The Walking Dead plot action. Romance was ok. Not interested in throuples. The beginning was immersive, was able to get into the world but did lose attention. Not sure if I’ll continue the series. Enjoyable for the most part. Worth reading if you like the tropes, but not memorable.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book because I've never read an end-of-the-world, zombie type book. But I'm a big fan of C.E. Black so I took a chance, and boy am I happy I did!
When we meet Jane, she's surviving on her own after the world has died. With nothing left of her hometown she has struggled to stay alive and away from any "flesh eaters" (zombies). With her knack for hiding and staying silent, Jane has done an excellent job keeping out of sight. But what will happen when she's finally caught?
Mason and Kaden, friends since childhood, have survived the worst of the storm and are making their way to what they hope will be a sanctuary. On the way, they stumble across Jane and know that they can't leave her behind. This book moves very fast and will immediately pull you in. I could have read 10 more chapters about Jane, Mason and Kaden and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

*spoilers* Bro. So I know this was supposed to be a short story and all but damn, did the main h get into bed with these two men quick! I mean slow it down a bit to let the romance burn some.
Just so you don’t have to read it: Jane, our main heroine, gets “kidnapped” by our two male suites. (BTW, the likelihood of them somehow NOT being creeps if this were a real life apocalypse and magically are still gentlemen after being straight and not seeing a woman in years is slim to none. But whatever)
Like immediately, she is thinking about sleeping with one or both men, despite the fact she is still being held against her will. (Oh yeah, quick sidebar- somehow Kaden knows ALS. And Jane is mute, so like perfect right! And definitely not seeming theoretically unlikely)
So, because she’s with these perfect hot guys who are gentlemen but also kidnappers she suddenly decides to change her mind to stay with them with no explanation whatsoever. Like going from , “I’m running away!” To “we’re a crew now!” In a span of a breath. (That was a real twist what the author did pretending she was running away but really she was getting food! Not.)
After knowing said boys for what, one day? She kisses Mason. Reasonable time line. After that, for some reason, she then sleeps with the other guy, Kaden. Reasonable jump. I never thought the song of silence would get someone so hot and bothered.
Of course the next day the boys fight over her. She gets greedy and decides she wants both.
For some reason even though it seems like it would be against his character Kaden decides it’s okay to share Jane with Mason. Immediately after she sleeps with the second boy, of course, they get attacked by zombies. (Which were basically non existent for most the book... so, plot convenience) Mason gets bitten (because he’s not the one who knows ASL, amiright?) and for some reason Kaden sends Jane off in her own. A new character (also conveniently) is introduced. And it’s a girl! Gasp! This sets up for the next book and the obvious reunion Kaden and Jane are going to have even though she thought he abandoned her.
End book.
Things that were the worst:
-Honest to god, I hated Jane. What a moron. She kept misunderstanding EVERYTHING. Even obvious stuff. Like the end when she overheard Kaden talking to those feral men asking him to join their group and he “agreed”. Obviously that was a lie, but this dumb one is all like, “oh noooooo! He doesn’t love me!!!”
-the boys were too perfect. Like, it’s not a bad thing for male characters to have flaws. Even if they are the love interest. It actually makes them more believable and likeable.
-It was a zombie apocalypse but where the F are the zombies??? They had a harder time with a feral group of men following them.
Ugh. Two stars because I read it all the way through, but it had a seriously bad plot.

I blinked and this “book” was over. With virtually no explanation or sense of self-preservation (however contrary to the premise of “survival” in this book) Jane jumps into boning two dudes she just met (who also happened to kidnap her). On one page she fears for her life and laments they might rape her and on the next she is “inexplicably attracted to Mason”—kissing him, then having sex with his best friend—during and after a narrow escape from more rapey guys hunting her down.
So.
There also just happen to be zombies, in case you forgot. I forgot. In fact, there’s really no explanation as to why they are there, or how. Or what the rest of the world is up to.
The world building was that bad.

Hunger by C E Black a surprising five star read. This is the first book in the Jane Thornton Trilogy, and what a first book, this is a book that is suitable for over 18s only. It’s a post-apocalyptic gripping story of survival. Its fast paced and you won’t be able to put it down. I had been avoiding the genre as it was getting a little over done, but this book has been a breath of fresh air. Its rejuvenated a love in me. Bring on book two!! I am desperately waiting!!
I don’t want to go into too much detail as I don’t want to give the game away, but all I will say is Jane has managed to survive this long, will she survive much longer? Who do you trust, and should you trust anyone but yourself. A year ago the world changed around her and now it’s changing again, she is good at certain tasks but will that be enough?

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:
I absolutely COULD NOT put this down! Seriously, I finished this story in less than two hours. I was HOOKED from the VERY first sentence. C.E. Black might have won me over COMPLETELY with this BRAND SPANKING new series! I have been searching for a great post-apocalyptic romance since I first read Kylie Scott's Flesh Series and Meghan March's Flash Bang series as well as Rebecca Zanetti's Scorpius Syndrome series. And other than a book here and there that were satisfactory, Miss Black gave me EXACTLY the kind of story I have been searching for since those books. I was on the edge the whole time reading this story. Even though this is more of a slightly longer novella, the fact that this is a serial and had one heck of a great cliffhanger left me desperately wishing I had the second book to read. This book was thrilling, dangerous, hot as f**K and just so...well, AMAZING! I can't even begin to describe exactly how much I LOVED this book!
If you adore post-apocalyptic romance with loads of walking dead, sizzling HOT sex, a pair of delicious heroes and plenty of excitement and heart stopping danger, you will fall head over heels for this new series. I read this earlier today and I am still feeling a book hangover...not sure how I will get through it either...unless of course, I get the second book *Wink*. Miss C.E. Black wrote such a intense, mind-boggling story with zombies, not one, but TWO gorgeous heroes, plenty of danger and a cliffhanger that will leave you screaming for the next book. I. Loved. It.

Amazing start to a new series, that will have your heart racing with excitement. It's fast paced, with plenty of danger, has sizzle & steam, and a pair of delicious men that you will fall head over heels for. And a cliffhanger that will leave you wishing you had the next book.

Yup that is the whole reason I bought this book….the above three comments….and I am not going to be shy or embarrassed by it!! If they are 3 HRMMMM’s for you then people go for it and grab it because you will love it!
So Jane has seen how bad the words is now that Flesh Eaters are running the world. She can’t trust anyone but herself. When Kaden and Mason spot her, they want to keep her safe. They KINDA force her to come but it’s because they are worried for her not because they are like “other” men who try to force Jane.
Kaden and Mason are two totally different men but we fall in love with them both for different reasons. Mason is an open book while Kaden is the brooding alpha. The guys both WANT Jane but also want to keep her safe in this world. *swoon* covering her in their blankets…sigh….giving her the nasty can of spaghetti-o’s because she is hungry……….
When the lines get crossed between the trio and someone is hurt, the group must separate. Jane is left alone and wondering if she made a huge mistake. Now she is waiting for the guys and hoping they will be able to find her to figure everything out!!
I can’t wait for more…like yes I need to know moooore!!

Hunger is a first for me. While I have read many books with zombies in them I have never read a zombie apocalypse book before. And while I did enjoy it, I am not entirely sure I have been converted to the zombie craze quite yet. This could have been partly due to the length of the book, and I use the term book loosely here, as it took less than an hour to read. And you know what else takes less than an hour? A Walking Dead episode. Hunger felt exactly like an episode of the hit television series except with a slightly different storyline and different characters. Characters that are rather interesting especially the main character, the mute Jane Thornton. Jane is both vulnerable and strong. She is a fighter that is very aware of her weaknesses, weaknesses that make her more lifelike and not so far out of reach for the everyday zombie apocalypse survivor. I was a bit unsure, to begin with, if there would be any dialogue; with the main character being mute how much could there be? Well actually, as it turns out, quite a lot. When Mason and Kaden, the extra-large all male characters, enter into the scene, Jane gives enough that the dialogue is not too one sided and keeps the storyline rolling. Overall I enjoyed this short foray into the world of flesh eaters and sexy men, but am undecided whether I will be dipping my toes back into C. E. Black’s zombie apocalypse for book two.

This book could have had potential if everything didn’t happen at rapid fire pace. There was no background for the zombie apocalypse. It just happened, and that’s how it’s going to be. Also, I’m sorry I don’t see how not letting her leave is protecting her? I don’t think I’m going to jump in “bed” with someone, or in this case more than one someones, if they’re not letting me leave. Not sure why authors thinks this is cute. This is not the first book I read where you have a “hero” not letting the MC leave and it’s somehow found cute *shivers*. I get this is a short story, but they could have maybe spaced it out a bit. It’s was just like BAM BAM BAM ... THE END... NEXT BOOK. By this point I’m just reading to just to get it done, not because I enjoyed it much. Sorry.

This book could have had potential if everything didn’t happen at rapid fire pace. There was no background for the zombie apocalypse. It just happened, and that’s how it’s going to be. Also, I’m sorry I don’t see how not letting her leave is protecting her? I don’t think I’m going to jump in “bed” with someone, or in this case more than one someones, if they’re not letting me leave. Not sure why authors thinks this is cute. This is not the first book I read where you have a “hero” not letting the MC leave and it’s somehow found cute *shivers*. I get this is a short story, but they could have maybe spaced it out a bit. It’s was just like BAM BAM BAM ... THE END... NEXT BOOK. By this point I’m just reading to just to get it done, not because I enjoyed it much. Sorry.

Couldn't Read Fast Enough!
I couldn't swipe my finger across the screen fast enough but wanted to slow down so the book didn't end at the same time! This book had everything you want in a apocalypse book. Plenty of action, zombies, sexy men, and a badass woman but still vulnerable at the same time.
As you can imagine in this situation being a woman is very dangerous, being young & alone makes it 10 times worse. So Jane was extremely wary of both Mason & Kaden at first. Eventually they both more than earned her trust and sparks started to fly. After some terror filled attacks from both zombies & humans they get separated. They have many battles to overcome yet but I can't wait to see what's coming next!!

Hunger
Surprisingly amazing! I absolutely loved this book. I stumbled upon it by accident while looking for something to read and boy am I glad that I did. This book is a post apocalyptic adventure where a mute girl stumbles upon two handsome men. It follows them through their relationship and any trouble they find during the apocalypse. There is good character development although I wish I could find out more about the men and Jane's history. Although that area is lacking a little the rest of the story is really good and I stayed up way past my bedtime to read it. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed reading this dystopian ménage Hunger has a bit of everything; there is action, violence, zombies and some hot and steamy scenes.
Jane is a mute and that has helped her stay safe and hidden in this world of Flesh Eaters and men (who also generally attack/rape women), until Mason and Kaden find her and instead of attacking her decide to feed her and keep her safe because three is better than one.
I would have liked to have gotten more background on Jane, Mason and Kaden and also the world they live in and how it became that way, I am hoping there will be more world building and detail in the next book Starved.

I was not expecting much with this when I picked it up at a stuff your kindle event but I was intrigued by the disability rep as the heroine, Jane is mute. This had Walking Dead Vibes but make it steamier. Jane has been alone and surviving since the day things became horrible. Zombie like creatures “flesh eaters” roam as well as dangerous groups of men. She is worried when two seem to follow her but unexpectedly, they seem concerned and want to take care of her. She could hold her own with weapons and defends herself. This was short and entertaining and I have more questions about the world as not much is explained.

Though a short book, I took my time to enjoy it. It is definitely for mature audiences, with a few sex scenes. Set in a zombie apocalypse, Jane is born mute but not written as weaker because of it. She is strong and kick @$$. When she meets Kade and Mason she fears they are like the other men she has run into, only looking to use her and possess her. Draw to both, she isn't sure if she should stay with them or run and stay on her own. Is three a crowd, or is it just right? I wasn't ready for the book to end, but as it is the first in a trilogy I will definitely be picking up the other 2 to see what comes of Jane!

Zombpoc and MFM what more could I ask for
This was a great read its a trilogy this is book one cannot wait for book 2... this was great zombies, death a kick ass herione 2 hot ass alpha males heroes, bad guys sex on sex its all here love it and love the fact the herione is mute and strong using it to her advantage. Such a great read its a cliffhangar in a way you know where someone ends up but the rest you dont know so have to wait and see cannot wait ... one click it you wont be disappointed

Although this book does leave on somewhat... Okay a big... cliffhanger it was done in a way that didn't make me want to throw my kindle across the room. The story is well written and I loved the characters. A lot can be said that C.E. Black put so much into what was written here and though there are many questions not answered I still look forward to the next book. This is said to be an RH, and though if that is the case it will be a slow building one, it kept my attention from beginning to end.

Really good world developing, action packed and a different kind of heroine - her being mute - it brings something new to the zombie apocalypse survival.
I read it because it says it's a menage series but
One huge negative for me is how incredibly short this book is. It builds up tension and then you are left unsatisfied.

It was a quick read but I liked it. I'm not big on zombie stuff even though I LOVE TWD and this wasn't too bad on that front. There was definitely more violence from humans than zombies. I'm sad that we are left hanging on some things though. It wasn't necessarily a cliffhanger. We did get to an ending of sorts. We are just left with a lot of unanswered questions. Impatiently waiting on the next one to get these answers.

This was short and to the point. I really liked the characters i’m really interested to see what’s going to happen. I’d like to Jane, and her willingness to just go with the flow. She wasn’t week by any means, but when she met Mason and Kade, it was like the perfect matching.
Also like the fact that the character was a meal. It really gave the story an interesting turn. I can’t wait to dive into the next one. 4 Stars #2OCCJD

AWESOME BOOK!!
I don’t know what to say about this book except that it is an awesome story. I got hooked before I even got finished with the first chapter. I enjoyed this book so much that I went ahead and bought Starved so I’d know what happens next to Jane Thornton.
So I most definitely recommend you read this book. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed at all.

Ouch
So I love a rd apocalypse romance especially when it's a menage or more. This book was definitely good so far plenty of action, some shore hot moments and let's not forget the beginning of a would crushing one. So I'm hoping that would crushing one can take a turn on the next book. But while wouldn't call the ending happy or a cliffhanger it's more like a safe save point to hold you over if that makes sense. Any way fingers crossed for an upswing would recommend.

Good start to the series
Usually I don't care for zombies but this book was more about Jane and the boys surviving then zombie fighting. I wish the book had been a bit longer so I could have gotten to know the characters a bit better but it was still a good read. The ending is a little abrupt to make way for the sequel.

Atypical heroine - mute, great fighter, independent fighting for survival among world of flesh eaters and brutal, lawless man. Meeting 2 great guys and falling in love with them was not on her agenda but it happened anyway, so when a tragedy strikes, the loss, the pain of separation hit so much harder....

Though I liked the Idea of the story I just found the world building and the character building Flat. Its a very Quick read, and although I wanted to know what happens there is just a lot of questions when you done. I wish there was just more there to really get an idea of the world and some information on the characters so you can really get drawn in.

Different
This was different and interesting. The MC is mute and that holds different depths that aren't normally covered in a paranormal book like this. The monsters appear to be zombies and I love that it's a different area that isn't seen often. Only drawback is how short it is and things feel a little rushed and unexplained but I'm hoping the next book solves this.

Loved it, but
I really loved this story, but it seems extremely short....just when things start picking up, it's over. And, there were like 5 pages missing. I tried reloading it a few times, UT nothing worked....even the last 2 pages were missing, which really stunk. Hopefully someone will fix this problem, because it was very frustrating.
